Sushi Hanashi is a solid option if you are looking for affordable sushi on the west side of LA. I will say, I struggle being Asian on the west side, I feel like our authentic options are limited. With that being said, Sushi Hanashi has a good happy hour, almost always has seating, and solid sushi options. I recommend checking this out for date night, or a night out with friends. You can get a great meal and drink affordable.

This is a solid place if you're looking for extravagant rolls but maybe not the place if you just want good sashimi/nigiri. This wasn't the best sushi I've had but it did really scratch the "sushi itch" when I was craving! Overall the fish was fresh and there was a good ratio of rice to fish. I also appreciate that the rolls weren't over-saucy. Price wise, not cheap but also not so expensive for the amount of food you get. The ultimate salmon roll and surprisingly, the naked flower, were my favorite! Solid contrast of flavors and textures on both. I would pass on the crunch spicy tuna roll next time

A can't miss Neighbourhood joint. The staff is always extremely friendly and the food is absolutely delicious for the price. Couldn't recommend more if you're staying in the area. Underrated and then some!

Delish! Sort of a hole in the wall on a corner street. Staff were soo friendly. Got the spicy salmon hand roll, yellowtail handroll, tempura, and salmon teriyaki plate, and shrimp shumai. Everything was excellent!! We would definitely come back.

Been here a couple times for a Business lunch. Great spot in Santa Monica, small unassuming store front, with a good amount of metered parking off the busy street. Once inside, you are welcomed by the Sushi Chef and can sit anywhere you like. The decor inside and overall has a cool vibes to it from the Sushi bar to the wall art. They have a pretty good lunch special where you can get a basic roll - IE spicy tuna, California, etc. and then choose one of their specialty rolls, last visit, I got the caterpillar roll, as well as a bowl of miso soup. $20 - $22 depending on the rolls you choose. I also added a Godzilla roll (you have to get this one, it is a huge roll, double the size of a normal roll, really good) as well as a B.S.C.R. Roll (baked scallop California roll, super tasty) If you love sushi, check this spot out, it will not be the cheapest lunch, but you also won't break the bank for sushi. Just know, typically it is one server here, at least the last couple times I have been here, so come and be patient and just enjoy a nice lunch or dinner. Enjoy!

Amazing food, service, and atmosphere. I've been multiple times and it never disappoints. Simply, great people, great restaurant, and a great evening. Coming back, many times.

Chose to this place because someone in the reviews said it was a solid sushi spot to go to. They were not wrong, my family and I enjoyed a delicious dinner. The staff was super nice and cheerful, gave us miso soup to start prior to ordering. We are traveling from Monterey county and if we are ever in town we would definitely come here again! the place has a very relaxing and warming environment.

Came here on a Tuesday night at 7, really wanting some rolls and coming for a first date. The parking situation was great with plenty of street parking that had no fee after 6pm and an empty parking lot across the street This could always be the cultural difference and language barrier but the waitress came over 3 times in the first 5 mins to see if we were ready to order. The last time she was standing 2 feet behind my date staring at me and i felt like i better just order something already lol. It was somewhat uncomfortable After we ordered she actually never came back by and if i needed a water or fork i had to catch her passing by. When she did come by she was very quick to the pt of if i wanted a second thing she was already gone and i had to wait for her return. The rolls itself were amazing and why i considered giving the 4 stars. So thick and the baked scallops burnt my mouth they were so freshly cooked. I'd probably come back for takeout and get either of those rolls. The sake was went down smooth and ordered two rounds. I felt like the pricing was good as well but the receipt not being itemized I'm not actually sure but 2 rounds of sake and two rolls didn't break the bank

Hanashi sushi doesn't pass the taste test. I ordered takeout, three rolls (Philadelphia, California, and a salmon avocado roll) for $38.55. Expensive sushi with no flavor or taste. Also, the fish wasn't fresh, in my opinion. The restaurant itself seems lovely and cozy, but there are far better options in Santa Monica; Noma sushi (10/10), Sugar fish, and many more. I'm a big sushi lover and tried many places in the area. Unfortunately, I won't be back here.

10 year anniversary and happy hour specials!

We came in for dinner on a Sunday night with a large group and were seated within 15 minutes. From what we could tell, there were only two servers, and they were responsible for running their own food while also handling takeout orders. They did an AMAZING job for only two people managing so much. As soon as we were seated, we got waters and let our server know we would be paying separately. She was very friendly and worked with us perfectly. We were able to split the bill into four checks, which worked great for all the couples in the group. I ordered the Bento Box with salmon, and my husband got the Bento Box with chicken. We also ordered the Crunch Roll. The Crunch Roll came out first, and it was delicious and definitely lived up to the name--it was actually crunchy! I loved the size of the Bento Box. It came with so much food and included a starter miso soup. The miso soup had great flavor, although I personally prefer larger tofu pieces. That might just be a personal preference, though. I usually have a lot more to say in my reviews, but everything was absolutely delicious and the service was truly 10/10. I do want to mention that one of our friends ordered the ramen, and she felt the flavor was a little bland. Her parents own both a Mexican restaurant and a sushi restaurant, and one of her dad's rules is that if you're a sushi restaurant, stick with sushi and do it well instead of trying to do too many different things. One thing done really well is sometimes better than trying to do everything.

I love getting the "THE NOZAWA TRUST ME" and treat myself when visiting LA ($48 for dinner and fullest of the pre made omakase menus | $40 at lunch). The fish is so fresh, I love eating there the most because the fish is super cold, and the rolls are crispy hot on the outside and cold inside. It involves a sashimi course, seven orders of nigiri and two hand rolls. So the reason they call it the don't think, just eat is that they rush you through the whole process. Everything came out within 40 minutes. I barely had time to take photos and eat before they were back asking for my plate. And some of the sushi did not taste right. It was a little fishy and slimey. I've done omakase and sushi before and this was not the best quality. I wouldn't say we were full because it was good but because they were making you eat so quickly. I wasn't sure if they were just caring more about turning tables until I saw a couple drinking a single bottle of wine the entire time were were being rushed. So maybe it was just this specific course they don't want you to pace yourself. I heard great things so I'm just disappointed.

We were in the area for my son's doctor's appointment and discovered this place nearby. What a bonus! If you're anywhere close, it's absolutely worth a visit. The sushi here is next-level. You can immediately taste the quality of the ingredients--the freshness of the rice, the fish, and the attention to detail in every bite. I started with salmon and tuna nigiri, plus a salmon roll that was cut into small bite-sized pieces. Honestly, I was popping them into my mouth like candy. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. They also have a great selection of hot foods. Right when you walk in, you're greeted by freshly prepared unagi (eel), which looked amazing. They also offer katsu, and other ready-to-eat items. I grabbed a Spam musubi, and wow--it may be the best Spam musubi I've ever had, even better than some I've had in Hawaii. The Spam still had a slight crispiness, the egg added richness, and the seasoning brought everything together with an incredible umami flavor. What I love most is that the place reminds me of a Japanese convenience store (konbini)--but an upscale version. It's like Tsukigi market had a store in Ginza. You can buy fresh seafood, ingredients to make your own sushi at home, or simply grab a meal and enjoy it there. The quality throughout the store is outstanding. The atmosphere is great too. There's always a buzz of people shopping for sushi or enjoying their food outside in the seating area. It feels lively and authentic. One suggestion: try to get there early if you can. They had so many ready-made sushi trays, rolls, nigiri, and prepared foods available, but a lot of them were already nearly sold out by the time I got there. I noticed a sign saying items are made fresh regularly throughout the day, which is a great sign of how popular and fresh everything is. Still, if you want first pick of all the goodies, I'd recommend arriving earlier. My only real complaint is the parking. The lot is small, and during busy times you'll probably need some patience. I visited on a weekday during rush hour, but once I got my food, it was completely worth it. The drive back to Simi Valley flew by because I couldn't stop eating and thinking about how good everything was. I honestly can't wait to find another excuse to come back. This place is such a treat. Eventually, a lovely girl finally came to my aid as I awkwardly stood there to find this manager, and she made the worthwhile effort to do that. The initial idiot made a quip, "Oh there he is", and I shook my head. It should also be said that the manger isn't exactly a brain surgeon either.
