Absolutely fantastic. I went with a couple of friends on Sunday, March 29 a little before 5:30pm. It wasn't that busy when we arrived but it did pick up quite a bit by the time we left. The place is cute and the service is very fast, efficient, and friendly and our server was lovely. Price wise, it isn't the cheapest but it is still in the affordable range for a la carte sushi and honestly, my friends and I eat a lot. One friend ate beforehand so she only ordered a bottle of sake. My other friend and I ordered an order of salmon sushi (2pcs), yellowtail belly sushi (2pcs), an order of soft shell crab appetizer each and two rolls each--- I had the To Heaven No Rice Roll (4 kinds of fish, avocado, crab meat wrapped in cucumber) and the Hanashi Special (shrimp tempura roll with spicy salmon, kaiware on top) and my friend had the Baked Langostino (California roll with baked langostino) and the Lincoln (spicy tuna roll, avocado, spicy crab and shrimp tempura mix). I can't remember exactly but I think all of that amounted to about $160 after tax and tip. The fish is sooooooo fresh. Everything tasted amazing. When you first walked in, we were so totally ignored by everybody that we were wondering what was going on. But then, once we got some menus, the service ended up being very good. The whole staff was very attentive. We started with albacore and kanpachi sushi. The kanpachi was very good but the albacore was seared which we weren't expecting and it didn't have a great flavor or texture. We had spicy tuna, crispy rice, and that was pretty good. My lovely companion had Samon skin cut roll and thought it was good. I then ordered a chicken teriyaki dinner and it was fine. The miso soup didn't have a lot of flavor and the Gyozo was fairly flavorless, but the chicken, the salad, and the tempura were fine. When I go back? We both said no. The menu is also overwhelming and it felt like it's essentially the same four or five items just arranged differently and it was too much to take in. We find that really good sushi places have a more limited menu. We found street parking easily. read more

This wasn't the best sushi I've had but it did really scratch the "sushi itch" when I was craving! Overall the fish was fresh and there was a good ratio of rice to fish. I also appreciate that the rolls weren't over-saucy. Price wise, not cheap but also not so expensive for the amount of food you get. Been here a couple times for a Business lunch. Great spot in Santa Monica, small unassuming store front, with a good amount of metered parking off the busy street. Once inside, you are welcomed by the Sushi Chef and can sit anywhere you like. The decor inside and overall has a cool vibes to it from the Sushi bar to the wall art. They have a pretty good lunch special where you can get a basic roll - IE spicy tuna, California, etc. and then choose one of their specialty rolls, last visit, I got the caterpillar roll, as well as a bowl of miso soup. $20 - $22 depending on the rolls you choose. I also added a Godzilla roll (you have to get this one, it is a huge roll, double the size of a normal roll, really good) as well as a B.S.C.R. Roll (baked scallop California roll, super tasty) If you love sushi, check this spot out, it will not be the cheapest lunch, but you also won't break the bank for sushi. Just know, typically it is one server here, at least the last couple times I have been here, so come and be patient and just enjoy a nice lunch or dinner. Enjoy! read more

I witnessed absolutely disgusting behavior from the staff toward a DoorDash courier just about an hour ago. When he walked in, no one even acknowledged him. Since nobody came to help, he approached the kitchen staff and asked about his order. They gave it to him, and he calmly walked outside. Suddenly, an aggressive employee ran after him, snatched the order out of his hands very roughly, and dragged it back into the restaurant. The employee started yelling that the courier had no right to take the order, even though the courier clearly explained that the kitchen staff had handed it to him. Instead of resolving the situation, the employee began swearing, shouting, and even pushing him. He kept calling the courier a "thief," even though we personally witnessed everything and knew that was not true. On top of that, the employee completely crushed the food container, ruining the contents. What kind of careless and disrespectful attitude toward food is that? Is this how you treat customers' orders? To make matters worse, when we were given the check, we were asked to leave a tip. The audacity! Tipping is optional, not something you demand. The service was absolutely horrible, and the staff was rude, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. They even made offensive comments about the courier's nationality, shouting things like, "What language are you even speaking, idiot?" That is completely unacceptable. A woman near the entrance even tried to calm the courier down and admitted that "they're like that here," which clearly shows this is not the first time something like this has happened. Absolutely our favorite sushi spot! We're walking distance, and often say how lucky we are to have such a terrific spot so close by. During the Pandemic, they were jumpin'. All those customers, I am sure, feel like we do, delicious - and still order for delivery. The food is always fresh, and tasty. We sit at the bar, but have sat at tables with friends (who have told us, it's now one of their favorite spot too). Not fancy, but clean, and delicious. The parking situation was great with plenty of street parking that had no fee after 6pm and an empty parking lot across the street This could always be the cultural difference and language barrier but the waitress came over 3 times in the first 5 mins to see if we were ready to order. The last time she was standing 2 feet behind my date staring at me and i felt like i better just order something already lol. It was somewhat uncomfortable After we ordered she actually never came back by and if i needed a water or fork i had to catch her passing by. When she did come by she was very quick to the pt of if i wanted a second thing she was already gone and i had to wait for her return. The rolls itself were amazing and why i considered giving the 4 stars. So thick and the baked scallops burnt my mouth they were so freshly cooked. Hanashi sushi doesn't pass the taste test. I ordered takeout, three rolls (Philadelphia, California, and a salmon avocado roll) for $38.55. Expensive sushi with no flavor or taste. Also, the fish wasn't fresh, in my opinion. The restaurant itself seems lovely and cozy, but there are far better options in Santa Monica; Noma sushi (10/10), Sugar fish, and many more. TERRIFYING experience! an older man with glasses, who claims to be the owner of the property, was aggressive towards my friend. This was our first time here and asked about their specials. This man seemed bothered that we were asking questions. When my friend asked him if there was an issue with asking about the specials, this man became angry. My favorite roll to-date is the Baked Salmon. This California-style roll is topped with fresh cooked salmon and spicy mayo. It's so tasty and never leaves me feeling overly full. I normally splurge on either gyoza or garlic edamame to bulk up the meal. Both are fantastic at Sushi Hanashi and shouldn't be overlooked! The uni was expensive ($19 for two pieces) and tasted like Santa Barbara uni so I can't say it was worth it. My fiancé ate the combo but I had a piece and it was nicely seared.
