There is an unwritten guideline to avoid sushi restaurants on mondays and Tuesdays. This is because some but not all restaurants receive shipments on Thursdays before the weekend. As such sushi is generally more fresh on Fridays and the weekend and not so much at the start of the week. My party insisted on sushi on a Monday. We were in the area and gave this place a try. We had the salmon special, maui maui roll and amazing kiss. All 3 dishes had soggy rice and very soft and somewhat mushy fish texture. The veggie tempura was cooked well, was crispy on the outside and had good texture to the veggies. We noticed that it seemed a bit warm in the restaurant. Otherwise service was friendly. Immediately after and For a few hours after i felt my stomach processing. I did wash my hands before eating. Another person in my party also felt the same for a bit. I dont like writing bad reviews. I found this place on Yelp because it advertised a happy hour, but when I arrived, I was surprised to find that there was "no happy hour available". The restaurant is run by Thai staff so they offer Thai Tea, which was unexpected given the sushi focus. What really disappointed me was that they only provide a few small slices of ginger with your sushi, and if you ask for more, they charge you extra. I initially thought the California mango sushi looked pretty good, but charging customers for additional ginger with sushi is unacceptable and left a very bad impression. Unfortunately, because of the misleading happy hour information and the extra charge for something that is normally provided with sushi, I can only give this place 1 star. read more

**Rating the experience with a small child** It's such a bummer that I have to give this place a low rating. I really wanted to give more, but my son got a really bad tummy ache and he could barely walk. I'm not sure what caused it, but the only two things that I did not eat were the tamago sushi and chicken teriyaki (that was off the menu). At the very beginning my son said the tamago didn't taste really good, so he only ate one. And because they didn't have chicken karage, the kitchen made him an off-the-menu dish of chicken teriyaki. At first I thought it was nice, but then I started thinking about the ingredients of it was off-the-menu. It didn't look very appetizing, but he ate it anyway as he was hungry. My Candy Roll and edamame were fine, and so were the mochi ice cream. Can't really screw up the mochi! Service was really nice and prompt; so it's unfortunate to have to give it a lower rating. My son demanded that we give them 1 star as he was in pain, but I thought the service made up for at least another. Unfortunately we will not be back. read more

I'm surprised it's taken me this long to write a review! This is my favorite go-to sushi spot in downtown Santa Monica. I think I discovered it in 2018 when I first moved here and I'm so relieved it's still around (I moved out of SM last year and so many other things have changed). First, I don't know how they make their gyoza but oh my goodness, best I've ever had. So crispy on the outside and delicious on the inside, and I love the sauce they serve with it. I like all of the sushi rolls that I have tried, but especially the Philly roll (I know this is a controversial choice lol but it's SO good here, it truly melts in my mouth). They also have an excellent Thai tea. Great for takeout (they are super quick) but it's also fun to dine there. It has cozy hole-in-the wall vibes and usually you can find a table easily. read more

I ordered the Unagi Donburi and a salmon roll. The eel was warm and just melted in your mouth. I wish there were more eel because it was just that good. There was a hefty amount of rice underneath the salad too. The rice bowl was filling. The salmon roll did not disappoint either and was a nice add-on to complete the meal. The service is fast and friendly. This place has been around for a while and I visited it in the past. Usually my go to is Dragon Roll but this time I decided to try Miso Soup , classic eel roll (they have a fancy name for it that I dont remember) and Baked Mussels. The food was absolutely delicious, it was quick and tasted fresh! Miso soup was spectacular! Even had full mushrooms in the soup which I believe gave it flavor. Small restaurant near downtown Santa Monica. The service was great and the sushi was fresh. They have so many options. I had the avocado roll and the crunch California roll. Delicious! I always order teriyaki sauce and spicy Mayo. While at some restaurants they charge you $1 for the extra sauces, here it was free. MENU: my favorite part about this place is the variety of their menu. There are quite a few non-standard and fusion options that put a nice spin on sushi. I liked their addition of mango, kiwi and other foods to the rolls. The only negative note about the menu is a lot of the rolls have imitation crab (highly processed and wildly unhealthy). AMBIANCE: this is a hole in the wall type place. The restaurant is very small and casual. We did a takeout. Good experience with service.
