The Philly roll had the most cream cheese I've ever gotten in a Philly roll. Like this is how I would make a Philly roll at home, just gobs of cream cheese. Plus for cream cheese lovers. Come to think of it, the fish was really generous in all the rolls too. The spicy California roll came with this split sauce. I'm not totally sure what it was, but that was kind of a cool touch. The ginger was also really generous. We actually had soy mustard, wasabi, and ginger leftover to eat with another meal. You can call ahead and pickup, or just walk up and order (be prepared to wait around 20 minutes though). 1 guy, 1000 sushi orders. Here's what we got: - spicy tuna crispy rice: this was good, the crispy rice was a little stale but it did not take away from the great flavors. It comes with one little dish of mixed up sauces (I think spicy Mayo, eel and something else). This dish is beautiful and I can't believe it's not from a restaurant! - salmon avocado roll (I forgot the name, don't sue me) this was a classic but tasty roll. It was my favorite of the night. - crispy onion roll (also forgot the name!!! Sorry!) this roll was super unique, I never had a roll with fresh crispy onions on top of it. Toms Sushi House is a wonderful casual restaurant if you're looking for food that isn't super cheap but not super expensive - the perfect middle. I've only ever ordered takeout so cannot comment on the service or ambience. I will say: Rainbow roll (5/5): one of the cheapest rainbow rolls you will find in the area and the fish quality is good. The ratio between fish and rice is great. Dragon Roll (4/5): this roll was good but I wish the unagi slices were a bit thicker. They were on the thin side so didn't get as much of the unagi flavor. Spicy Yellowtail (3/5): I wasn't the biggest fan only because the onions were a little overpowering. But the price is very good for the amount of fish so if u like onions, this may not be bad for you. I ordered delivery from here last week when I was craving some sushi. I had ordered from here a number of times in the past but it's been well over a year since my last order. Based on reviews, it looks like the place has a new owner but the menu hasn't changed much. I got the spicy tuna on crispy rice which comes with a large piece of crispy rice (about 5" or so in diameter) that's topped with spicy tuna, avocado, green onions and masago. On the side you get a little container of eel sauce mixed with spicy Mayo to pour on top. This was tasty but the rice was a little too warm when they put the fish on top because it cooked it somewhat. The flavor was good but I wish the fish hadn't gotten cooked because I didn't love the texture of that. I also got a roll with spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, crab, avocado, and crunchy tempura bits. It also came with eel sauce/spicy Mayo. This was pretty tasty but nothing unique. It was way too much food for me so I couldn't finish it all. While it was pretty good, I remember it being better in the past. Maybe if I had gotten it for pick up and eaten it immediately it would have been better, but overall it's not a bad spot for some relatively inexpensive sushi. Don't come here expecting a nice sushi restaurant. It's literally a tiny shack with a couple of tables outside. Only come here for takeout or get delivery. read more

Although it's not life-changing sushi, it's so good that you will want to order from them on a regular basis. Husband found this place because he was looking for sushi that wouldn't break the bank, and everyone knows that for that use case, Korean sushi is the way to go. Crispy rice with spicy tuna: Good flavor and the rice was indeed crispy. Sauce was good too. Salmon mango roll: Like a California roll with the addition of salmon and mango. They were very generous with the mango, and the sauce was a little sweet. Great flavor combo. Unagi bowl: Perfectly executed. My only criticism was that the avocado on this one was a little underripe, but given everything that's going on in the world, I should be grateful to get avocado at all, let alone such a generous portion. The real treasure in this dish, though, was the scrambled eggs topped with pickled jalapenos and masago - that was a real flavor explosion. Who would've thought that such a tiny and rundown shack in the middle of a rundown plaza would serve such amazing food? At first glance, I don't even know how they are in business. The outside is janky and not appealing at all. However, the food they serve is pretty darn good and cheap. I have tried only their bibimbap and its pretty good. Verdict: The prep and delivery time took slightly longer than I anticipated, but this is the best-value sushi to-go place on the Westside. Typically 4-5 pieces of crispy rice are priced at 20 dollars (I am still trying to figure out why) and here it's $12 for 8 pieces. Most importantly, the ingredients are fresh and the rice is ACTUALLY crispy. The only downside is that the rolls felt a smaller than other sushi spots in the area, for a similar, maybe slightly cheaper price. I walked up and my order was ready within 10 minutes, it wasn't super busy. I did hear the person who ordered after me get an estimate of 20 minutes, it's a small operation so I wouldn't be surprised if they're overwhelmed with orders sometimes. This place is a dingy little hut at a strip mall on Santa Monica Blvd - doesn't look clean. They have some decent rolls nothing special. The owner is so rude. Every time I walk up to order he has an attitude. The most recent time he told me the wait for a to go order would be 1 hour because he has online orders ahead of me. Like I'm gonna freeze out in the street for an hour while he fills his Postmates and door dash orders. This is not how you treat your walk in customers. Rude owner, dirty looking stand, and they serve their food in styrofoam which is horrible for the environment. If they can't be bothered to use environmental friendly packaging imagine the short cuts they're making for profit with regard to food ingredients. Won't ever go here again. read more

This is a really small shop that has a couple of patio seats, but I have only ever ordered delivery from them. Some highlights include: - Huge portions - their sushi rolls are huge and really makes you feel like you're getting your money's worth. - Fresh fish - doesn't tend to have that fishy flavor some other places do. - Their spicy tuna and salmon options are my go-tos. Their spicy tuna has a really good balance of sesame, spice, and fresh tuna flavor. - Great fish-to-rice ratio. They give you a lot of fish and other ingredients, not too much rice which I appreciate and really feel like I'm getting my value. My favorite rolls: - Super yellowtail roll: fresh yellowtail on top with crunchy and meaty shrimp tempura inside. I love the masago and red onion toppings, as well as the yuzu soy sauce that comes with it. All ingredients come together to make a nicely balanced roll. - Salmon mango roll: Love salmon cut rolls, and the mango on top adds some nice sweetness - breaks up the monotony. - Spicy Alaskan: Love the spicy tuna and salmon (as I've already mentioned above), and the pickled seaweed and crunchy toppings on top. The sushi roll itself is tasty, but the toppings add a much-needed and delicious textural change to the dish. This comes with a spicy teriyaki sauce and I live for this. Salmon Sashimi- delicious, will order it again. So tender and fresh. Came with a large salad. Santa Monica Roll/Spicy Alaskan Roll- I should have looked at the menu more thoroughly because these 2 items are very similar. Both were good but I think I will try their more simple rolls next time. Crispy Rice- I would go without this one next time. I've lived near this place for years, and why it took me this long to try it, I have no idea. Well, I do have an idea. It doesn't look like it would put out some tasty sushi, but once you get passed that, you'll be surprised. I stopped by at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. No crazy line or anything, but I was told a 30 min wait. I think this is because they do a high volume of app delivery and people who call in orders to pick up. A woman who arrived a few minutes behind me was told 50 min for one roll. I ordered the sushi sampler B (8 pieces) and dragon roll. The sampler had huge, thick pieces of fish. Two pieces had a little too much wasabi, but that is a personal preference of me not liking wasabi. The dragon roll was huge. I appreciated that the ginger/wasabi for the sushi was packaged separately so not to taint my fish with their yuckiness, and that the eel sauce was also packed separately so I could control the amount. This is a mom and pop operation, with what I believe is a married couple running the joint. Since there are only two of them, there is only so fast they can make the sushi, and there is no one else to run things if they are sick, etc. Apparently they are closed every other Sunday, and I have no idea how we are supposed to know which Sunday's those are, aside from stalking the place. The woman was very nice to me and handed me my order with a smile and thank you. This is a great option for take out sushi. There are about 3 small tables out front if you can't wait and need to shovel sushi in your mouth immediately. I'm not judging.
