Lunch specials
Annie W.

The lunch specials here are absolutely amazing! Reasonable prices, big portions, and fast service.

chirashi set

- service was good and all staff were polite and pleasant. Likely because we went at dinner busy time and only a couple of staff were working, it was difficult to get the attention of staff for service at times - we went there to try their uni special and chirashi set. all uni and sashimi were very fresh but the cooked food (ie unagi and crab) were overcooked and chewy. but portion sizes are very decent - the alcohol menu is fairly small compared to other japanese restaurants -

I would come here for happy hour 3:30-6:30 since they have good variety of food and drink selections. Oysters were $1.50 each. My favorite was the Mentaiko Yaki Udon and takoyaki. I had a salmon roll as well and found the salmon very thin. The location was perched at the top of a building so there were lots of stairs to go up and didn't see an elevator close by so not as accessible. However the food is still pretty good. There is 18% gratuity mandatory fee added with our party of 8.

After I saw a post on Instagram the owner talked about their lekei-style ramen, The next day I went there to try if the quality and authenticity is the same as he described. I often walk pass the building where this restaurant located in but I wasn't aware there is a Japanese restaurant before. Now I found this hidden-gem. I went there during the normal lunch hour and I could get a table immediately. As it is owned by Japanese, you can expect the good quality of service and a very tidy environment. My table was next to a window facing North Vancouver, pretty romantic. I picked the Shoyu ramen. It is always better to start with the simple one - someone said "the simplest one is the hardest one to master". It don't take long for the wait and I was fascinated by the smell. The broth, unlike many Japanese ramen joints, is not greasy but rather clear. It is because they extract the pork-bone flavour without using pressure cooker! I can tell they didn't use any MSG. The soup is fully drinkable. This lekei-style ramen was really awesome.-awesome. It looked simple but its unique authentic flavour is unforgettable. It was cooked with heart. It was a chilly rainy day when I walked into this restaurant but I came out with a warmed heart. Arigato!

We sure ordered a lot of prawns. The tiger prawns mayo was real tiger as in they're big. Mind you, there are only three pieces. Prawn tempura is good standard fare. Happy hour items are affordable and with a view of the mountains, go during the afternoon then you can enjoy discounted items and the view!

This Vancouver restaurant brought me back to Japan. They offer booth tables (tatami) where you take off your shoes. Its definitely a great spot for a date night with your partner I was really excited when they brought out the torch for the twin impact bowl. They also have chirashi, sushi, carpaccio, unagi bowls, and even potato frites! Don't forget to try their oysters for $1.5 each and finish your meal off with their yuzu cheesecake. NEW MENU ITEMS: Bonsai Beef (16) Twin Impact Bowl (21) Kamei Chirashi (32) Salmon Carpaccio (18) Buck a Shuck Oysters (1.5) Yuzu Cheesecake

Extremely reasonable happy hour prices. Raw oysters are maximum 6 per person at only $1.50 each. Beer prices are reasonable and so is their happy hour sashimi platter. A good option in the area if you don't want to drive into downtown. Parking was cheap on the small streets.

This restaurant on the corner of Broadway and Ash was formerly called Ebisu. After being closed for a long stretch during COVID, my friend and I were so happy to see it re-opened, and when we visited here for lunch recently, it was as good as ever - if not better. The restaurant has a very extensive menu and their ingredients are super fresh. I usually get one of the many lunch specials (and there are lots to choose from), as I like having samples of various sushis and sashimis and tempuras, etc. I ordered the Lunch Special B which included a very tasty miso soup (more flavorful than the usual bland broth served elsewhere as a filler), a salad (larger and more ingredients than the past side salads offered with lunch specials at the old Ebiso, and now with a tasty sesame-mayo-like dressing), 4 large pieces of tempura (including 2 large prawn), 8 sushi pieces (not sure what kind but all were super fresh and tasty. 4 had tempura prawns in them), and 4 pieces of the freshest sashimi (2 salmon and 2 tuna, I think). It was all delicious and the portions were generous. I ended up bringing the sushi home and giving my friend some of the tempura and my miso soup and salad. My friend ordered two varieties of sushi rolls and said both were "amazing". Note: they now charge 25 cents for a take-out box, for leftovers, so don't be like me; remember to bring your own take-out container. Also, note if you check in on Yelp, you get a free ice cream dessert! We opted to try the sesame flavor and it was delicious! So remember to check in!

The food is good, the prices are reasonable, and the owner and staff TRULY care. The staff were extremely nice and clearly happy to be there. The owner is a really good person, and I'm happy to support a business run by that man.

Beef Carpaccio

We stumbled upon this place looking for dinner after a long day of shopping. Being such foodies we didn't even think twice about trying it. It is tucked back out of the hustle and bustle of the city, and was quiet. The atmosphere was wonderful, the booths were semi-private and it was nice to be able to enjoy each others company without feeling rushed out. The servers, and the gentleman who I assume was the manager, were all friendly and took pride in their jobs. Now, let's talk food. Absolutely everything we saw going to other tables looked beautiful and delicious. Everything on the menu sounded amazing. We ended up order a couple rolls, the baked oysters, and the beef carpaccio. Every single bite was delicious and fresh. if you're wavering over trying this place, try it. You will NOT be disappointed! We will absolutely be returning.

as a global trotter, i've had my fair share of culinary adventures. My recent visit to Kamei was nothing short of spectacular! the ambience was warm, the service was impeccable and the host was super friendly. we embarked on a gastronomic journey that left our tastebuds dance with joy.

Kamei was one of the first japanese restaurants in vancouver serving sushi. It was defiinitely an og one and it is a good place to get your comfort sushi. A good place to hangout and drink sake with your buddies too. Come check it out!

Such an underrated spot in such a convenient location. Kamei has such a variety of different Japanese items and not to mention good happy hour and soon some new menu items! * Salmon carpaccio ($19) ~ this was pretty good, the salmon sashimi was topped yuzu ponzu, truffle mayo and purple onions and the salmon was refreshing. This dish was good the fried garlic added a lot of flavour as well. 8/10. * Vegetable croquette ($7) ~ super crispy, and flavourful the croquette are stuffed with potato, corn, peas and onions and their house made sauce was so good with it! 9/10. * Oysters ($2.75//HH-$1.75) ~ a classic I love oysters and it was super fresh and nicely shucked. The sauce that came paired with it was also the perfect sauce pairing. 9/10. * Spider roll ($17) ~ super good. I loved the deep fried soft shell crab with the unagi and Japanese mayo sauce combination. 8/10. * Bbq cuttlefish ($18.5) ~ yummy, bbq ika served with 2 sauces the mayo and togarashi spice blend (which was my fav dip) the ika was grilled nicely and good consistency, also nicely seasoned. 8/10. * Beef wonder bowl ($23) ~ I loved the crispy rice that you get out of this. The rice was flavourful and loads of beef in it as well. 7.5/10. * UNI cream udon carbonara ($24) ~ my favourite dish the udon was cooked perfectly, the pasta was creamy, saucy and delicious. I loved the UNI taste that came with it and that egg was poached perfectly for this. 10/10. * Aburi set (coming soon) ~ I really liked this as well, the aburi was perfectly seared and the flavours were good. I loved the ebi aburi it was my fav! 8.5/10. * House made mackerel (coming soon)~ this was super unique. The mackerel was perfectly cured and salted. It was good with the table side seared top. 8/10. * Japanese cheesecake ($6.5) - yuzu and matcha this was interesting, super thick and came paired with whipped cream and blueberry. I prefer the matcha one more. But overall I wish it was a bit more creamy. Yuzu 5/10. Matcha 5.5/10.

Went on a Saturday night around 8:10pm and got told they would call us by 9pm if a spot opened up…read more They were very clear about the fact that last call is shortly after 9 so we might not be able to get a table in time. I appreciated this and would much prefer this over expecting to have a table than being disappointed. We got lucky though and were able to get seated right around 9. Service was very prompt and we were able to order, eat, and get out of the restaurant pretty quickly. Overall great experience even though I didn't absolutely love everything we ordered House roll: 3/5 this was ok. It sounded good initially but I think there was just too much going on Spicy chopped scallop roll: 4/5 presentation wasn't the best but it still tasted good Red dynamite roll: 5/5 their most popular roll for good reason. I would def recommend this one Salmon and tuna nigiri: 5/5 I liked both a lot and this perfectly scratched the itch for my sushi craving

I counted maybe 36 seats. The interior is nice but generic enough to be just about any type of restaurant. The menu accessed via QR code. I ended up trying the following: - Assorted Tempura: Good. Light batter, but slightly overbrowned. - Miso Black Cod: Good. More elaborate presentation than most, but very small piece. - Salmon Belly Sashimi: Very good. Fresh and delicious. - Tom Special Roll Tray: Very good. A great way to sample all the different roll, all which are very good. I thought it was reasonably priced and could adequately feed 4 people. Service was very good. There are a LOT of staff, so we were constantly being checked on to make sure we were happy and got anything we needed. Overall a good meal. It doesn't classify as the best sushi in Vancouver, but I can see the quality-value ratio might be the best in the city. All the food was quite good and certainly not overpriced. I imagine the high staff count was due to the overwhelming amount of takeout orders. I would return.

My hubs and I vacationed in Vancouver a few weeks ago in late April. We had seen the long lines for dinner at Saku when we were here more than a year ago. So, we decided to give them a try for a late lunch around 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon. No wait. We got seated right away. We liked how spacious and airy the dining room was. Our wait staff were friendly and on point. They were considerate about answering our questions about the food and food allergies. I ordered the chicken thigh katsu ($26 Can) and my hubs got the chicken thigh curry ($28.50 Can). No dairy involved in either dish which I was happy about because I have challenges digesting milk protein. Yes, it's kinda pricey. Yes, it's totally worth it. The katsu is light, crispy, fried perfectly, not greasy, and comes with unlimited rice, miso soup, finely chopped cabbage salad, and an addictively delicious sesame dressing. My hubs' curry sauce was served on the side so he could pour out as much or as little as he wanted. All in all, it was a very pleasant and satisfying meal. Saku is top notch for katsu. You won't believe how good katsu can be until you try it.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

Service was really amazing with servers explaining each dish and drinks were always topped off…read more Food was good, but maybe this isn't quite my style of omakase compared to the other ones I've tried. This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.
