I found this place during my online search for fresh and not crazy expensive sushi in Vancouver. There was about a 20 minute wait, as the place is quite small apparently popular. The wait was worth it, as the fish were fresh and relatively affordable for sushi and nigiri. The sweet shrimp were on the smaller side but I suppose that's expected for the price. Staff were also pleasant.

We've been waiting a long time to finally try Toshi, mainly because there's always a long lineup and now we understand why! We started with their sashimi, and it was SUPER fresh. Every piece was pristine, clean-tasting, and easily some of the best sashimi we've had. You can really tell the quality and care that goes into their seafoodThe chicken karaage came out piping hot and was noticeably different from others we've had with juicy, tender bites and a light, crisp coating that made it especially enjoyable. We also ordered the avocado and salmon roll, which was solid and satisfying, and the spider roll, which was a standout! Super crunchy, great blend of flavours... amazingly, it's a big roll yet it held together perfectly without falling apart. Ended the meal off with their berry berry yuzu ice cream. A beautiful balance of sweetness and tartness. Loved it! Overall, excellent food, great execution, and well worth lining up for. Toshi definitely lives up to its reputation and a must-visit place for sushi lovers.

If you know, you know: the line at Toshi Sushi is legendary. Snagging a seat in the first sitting feels like hitting the jackpot! We hopped in line at 4:15 PM (15 mins before opening) and just made the cut. The highlights: 1. Assorted Sashimi: 15 pieces of pure freshness. The texture was incredibly buttery--easily some of the best in Vancouver. 2. Chicken Karaage: Massive portions and surprisingly juicy. 3. Spider & Salmon/Avocado Rolls: Classic, well-executed, and absolute perfection. They use less rice using more quality ingredients. 4. Berry Yuzu Ice Cream: The ultimate closer. Tart, refreshing, and the perfect "not-too-sweet" dessert. The space is small yet cozy! The staff is great sharing the fresh/daily specials and providing the regular menu. Vancouver sushi at its finest and authentic. We'll definitely be back (and lining up early again!).

Toshi Sushi is a no-frills Japanese restaurant known for its fresh fish. We visited on a Wednesday evening after work. The place was packed, and we waited about 30 minutes for a table. We ordered the Spicy Combo (spicy tuna roll and spicy scallop roll), Philadelphia Roll, BBQ Sea Eel, Gindara (miso-baked black cod), Box Sushi, Fig & Yogurt Ice Cream, and Yuzu Green Apple Ice Cream. The miso-baked black cod was the star of the night--tender, buttery, and full of umami. A must-try. The BBQ sea eel, one of their specials, was also excellent. Both house-made ice creams were smooth and flavorful. I especially enjoyed the natural fig, while the Yuzu Green Apple was more like a sorbet with a bold sour citrus kick--perfect for fans of tart desserts. Everything else we tried was decent, though slightly overpriced compared to other sushi spots. Food: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Parking: Limited street parking - arrive early Would I return? Yes, especially for the cod and ice cream! Pro Tip: Their specials change weekly based on what's fresh, so you can count on top-quality seafood. But quantities are limited each day--order them early before they sell out!

Very small authentic Japanese restaurant that always have massive lineups. Daily special fish flown in from Japan are always great to get. Sashimi was fresh and delicious. The rolls are very good similar to Tojo's. I like the sushi rolls they don't use a lot of rice just quality ingredients. Arrive early to avoid disappointment usually they stop taking waitlist early when there's full house and daily special always sell out.

A small sushi joint off Main and 16th Ave with tables for groups of 2-6 and a few bar seating. Each time I've passed by around dinner time, there has always been a line, so be prepared to wait if you plan on attending. I went during lunch time with a friend and even before they opened, there were already a few people queueing up! I ordered the House combo, which came with 6 pieces of sashimi, a tuna roll, and a house roll. Their house roll contains prawn and cucumber on the inside, and not the salmon, tuna, and tamago that other places typically have. The sushi was higher quality than your average sushi place in Vancouver, but the portion size was a bit small for what it cost. Interested in trying this place out for dinner next time!

Probably the best sushi and sashimi I've had in the United States. I won't compare it to sushi in Japan but yeah it's damn good and fresh. There was a wait but it was worth it. The uni was so good that was definitely the high light of my meal. I chose less rice on some of my sushi pieces since my gut can't handle too much rice and they were fine with this, Rdawg refused to order it for me. It's okay they won't kick you out geez.

Definitely waited at least 45min- 1 hour but it is one of those places worth eating at! The host and servers are really nice and they seem to know regulars by name. I am not a sushi lover but found ones that I enjoyed!! It was very tasty!

The food here is always amazing. Love the black cod, fried chicken, nigiri combo, ice cream, and sashimi. We also tried the Uni from Japan for $13, regular Uni was out of season. The Uni from Japan was small but creamier and more delicate in flavor than regular. I would just order the regular when in season. The black cod is our fav.

*Updated review* A friend suggested going to Toshi for dinner on a Saturday during the May heat wave. I was a bit apprehensive as my friend wouldn't be available until 5:30pm and there are always line ups outside the restaurant. We were lucky to score free (shaded) parking about 2 blocks away from the restaurant and one of the people outside waiting advised us how to put our names on the sign up sheet. There were at least 5 names before ours but our name was called after 5 minutes. We were pleasantly surprised with the short wait but having only 2 people is a lot easier, as we got seated at the bar, since there is limited seating for parties larger than 2 people. We ordered the House combo, the crunchy combo, box sushi, 2 uni nigri, and one saba nigri. The sushi was of smaller portion but was all fresh and tasty. We left feeling just satisfied and split the bill - about $31 plus tips each. Unfortunately, they only sell ice cream by the pint so we decided to head to Earnest for dessert instead. Toshi has been around for a long time and has consistently kept up their quality of food and service.

Amazing sushi, kind staff and reasonable prices is what you get at toshi! We got the usual order including their house combo which comes with sashimi (butterfish is some of the best you can ever have), house roll and tuna maki. I really enjoyed their negitoro roll as it was filled very generously and their rice is very well flavoured. In addition the chopped scallop roll, toro nigiri and uni nigiri were all of high quality and again, had perfectly compliment rice. The special of the night for us was the "new years eve" roll that the chef made for me even though it wasnt meant to be released yet (my bad at understanding instagram posts...) but they were so nice to make it for me anyways! It came with real crab, red tuna, shiso, avocado and oshinko. The flavours and textures worked together perfectly with the crunch of the pickle, the refreshing shiso and the fishy red tuna. It was a delicious bite and I wouldn't hesitate to get it again! Overall, you cannot go wrong with Toshi!

Delicious spot! A rotating stream of customers coming in, and you have to put your name on the waiting list in person. Fish was so fresh and I love that they have a limited selection menu - encourages you to try new and different items. My favourite items were the blue fin negitoro roll and box sushi! The shop itself is small but cozy. I will be back to try their handmade icecream!

Inari (x3) + soy sheet veggie roll (x2)
    Matt B.

I'm sure this place is great for fish, but for veggie sushi, this place is real lacklustre. We did a pick-up order one evening and was quoted half an hour for it to be ready. They delivered on that. We ordered: -Soy sheet veggie roll (x2): $4.75/roll. This comes with a thin green sheet of soy sheet that is rather tasteless but I guess is more interesting than without it. The interior is pretty lame: mostly cucumber, some carrot, and a hint of lettuce. One of the least inspired veggie rolls in the city. Lame. 2.5/5 -Avocado roll (x2; this normally comes with mayo, so, if vegan like us, ask for it without): $5.50/roll. Very standard run-of-the-mill avocado roll. Fine. 3/5 -Kampyo roll: $3.75/roll. Nice texture to the sweet gourd, but otherwise pretty standard. 3/5 -Inari (x3): $2.50/pc. On the small side, but perfectly acceptable and served the exact way that a hundred other places do. Standard. 3/5 -Wakame ($5.75). Standard seaweed salad that you'd buy a big carton of from a grocery store. Fine but nothing special here. 2.5/5 All in all, not a good spot for veggie sushi. If nearby and seeking veggie sushi, go to one of the many other sushi spots in this neighbourhood (recommended: Sushi Mania).

I counted maybe 36 seats. The interior is nice but generic enough to be just about any type of restaurant. The menu accessed via QR code. I ended up trying the following: - Assorted Tempura: Good. Light batter, but slightly overbrowned. - Miso Black Cod: Good. More elaborate presentation than most, but very small piece. - Salmon Belly Sashimi: Very good. Fresh and delicious. - Tom Special Roll Tray: Very good. A great way to sample all the different roll, all which are very good. I thought it was reasonably priced and could adequately feed 4 people. Service was very good. There are a LOT of staff, so we were constantly being checked on to make sure we were happy and got anything we needed. Overall a good meal. It doesn't classify as the best sushi in Vancouver, but I can see the quality-value ratio might be the best in the city. All the food was quite good and certainly not overpriced. I imagine the high staff count was due to the overwhelming amount of takeout orders. I would return.

Our wait staff were friendly and on point. They were considerate about answering our questions about the food and food allergies. I ordered the chicken thigh katsu ($26 Can) and my hubs got the chicken thigh curry ($28.50 Can). No dairy involved in either dish which I was happy about because I have challenges digesting milk protein. Yes, it's kinda pricey. Yes, it's totally worth it. The katsu is light, crispy, fried perfectly, not greasy, and comes with unlimited rice, miso soup, finely chopped cabbage salad, and an addictively delicious sesame dressing. My hubs' curry sauce was served on the side so he could pour out as much or as little as he wanted. All in all, it was a very pleasant and satisfying meal. Saku is top notch for katsu. Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.
