I've been disappointed time and time again; I ordered the "Smoky Sal," but the salmon on top was such a tiny piece I almost couldn't see it.

Island roll at the top , Salmon sashimi Appetizer and uni appetizer at the bottom!

I've had this spot bookmarked for years and finally got to try it for my daughters sweet 16 let's get into it . It's right by the alameda beach in a plaza so there's plenty of parking . When I walked in they have a kiosk to put yourself on the reserve list for seating . Lucky for us it wasn't crowded so we were seated immediately. Inside is big and roomy so you can definitely bring a large party here or just a date night . Our waiter was very nice plus all the staff were accommodating. I always get sashimi but I got to have my uni ( sea urchin ) craving knocked out ! They were plump and sweet but still had that fresh ocean taste omg ! Amazing . Salmon sashimi was nice thick cuts and melted like butter . For the roll the waiter recommended the island roll and it was pretty good ! I also got oysters ( kinda on the smaller side ) but still were fresh and the sauce they give to go with it was a nice touch . We also got the chicken teriyaki sushi combo which comes with Cali rolls and nigiri . The cuts on the nigiri were big as well ( but didn't taste as fresh as the salmon nigiri ) and they were gracious with the amount of tobiko they top the Rolls with . miso soup and salad was good . Overall I would definitely come back to try other rolls they have a lot of speciality rolls ! And if you like uni like me , definitely they got you covered !

Biggest minus, not enough staff. We had to flag down to order, to add order, to ask for napkins etc. We didn't want to wait for table so we sat at the counter. Plenty of space. We ordered appetizers. I didn't do the ordering. The native person did. All the food came out delicious. I was most impressed with the spinach in sesame sauce. It was cooked spinach shaped into a flower, sprinkled with seaweed and surrounded by the drizzling of sesame sauce. The sauce wanted me to go home and make it myself. The "blossom" with beautiful presentation of fresh tuna and avocado shaped in a petal. The fried tofu. The sashimi salad. For 3 people, I was full. The sushi makers were all Latino men. They were awesome. This guy made a sushi boat. Everything was fresh. Yelpers can sign up remotely instead of coming to the restaurant. The sound level was good. Able to have conversation. The sunset in alameda is gorgeous. After dinner a walk before sunset. Perfect

Always a great experience at Sushi House! Got the sashimi platter (forgot which one it is but I believe it is $50). I saw someone else get it on yelp and the waitress let me know which one it is on the menu. Delicious! The lambada roll is my favorite! My only complaint tonight is the pieces were so thin! Usually they have THICK rolls! Maybe a new sushi chef? Wonderful calm dinner. Always coming back! Until next time!

Another great meal. Lots of bento boxes around but my go to is the rolls. Seated fast and quick service. Bright and lots of space, roomy table and booths.

Cute little spot right by the water, great for grabbing sushi after a walk along the bay. The service was pretty standard and friendly enough, but nothing super memorable. We had a late lunch so there was no wait. We ordered a bunch of rolls: Lion King Roll, Samurai Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Caterpillar Roll and the portions were huge. You'll definitely walk out with leftovers! Overall it was an okay sushi meal, not the most authentic sushi experience, but it's an option if you want a meal by the water with massive portions that will keep you full.

Delicious and huge portions! Service varies but the food is good! Definitely order the bentos!

We come here at least once a month for the last 23 years until 2017. Since 2017,their dishes are very inconsistent. These days we just come every 2 months. On July 12th we all ordered 3 items Bento boxes, the Teriyaki grilled chicken and beef looked and tasted like boiled chicken and beef with teriyaki sauce. The salmon taste so plain. That was our worse experience at sushi house for the last 23 years.

Wow this place is terrific! The Bento Box is a great value and you get a lot of food. Comes with soup and salad. I only got a picture of my soup and when my Bento Box arrived, I started scarfing it down immediately. A huge Yelp faux pax, I forgot to take a picture!! I ordered mine with Teriyaki Beef and California Roll. The California Roll was so fresh and delicious, I had no idea a Cali Roll could taste that good. It's usually such an underrated roll but this was a stand out. The Teriyaki Beef was a generous portion and very tender. This restaurant is so clean and spacious with lots of light from the wall to wall windows overlooking the water. Service was efficient with lots of different servers all helping out.

The waitress is extremely rude , last time i went here she was rude , went here again today she was still rude

The waitress is extremely rude , last time i went here she was rude , aggressive , and looked irritated for no reason. went here again today and she was still irritated. i only came in this place to eat, not argue over if i was okay in the head or not, who would ask someone if they were okay in the head .. i even asked for the manager and he did nothing about the very, extremely rude waitress , and just asked if i wanted to dine in to eat or not . the service is very terrible , do not ever step foot in this place if you wanna get harassed or violated for no damn reason at all. i was minding my own business like a normal person waiting in line and the waitress let the customer behind me go first???? i was already first in line and she let the other customer go first?!

It's been a while since I came back here, and it's still as packed as ever. Luckily we checked in on yelp ahead of time so waiting wasn't all that bad for us. Food still just as good as it was back when I last came here. Service this time around was slow, but that's cause they were short on servers. They tried their best to be attentive.

The service was quite good, and the food was decent overall. However, if you're looking for a truly authentic Japanese dining experience, this may not be the place. I ordered a $30 bento dinner, which came with tempura, soup, salad, and rice, along with a choice of two main items. I chose tuna sashimi and yakiniku, and the portions were very generous. That said, the flavors didn't quite feel traditionally Japanese. The restaurant itself is fairly large, with plenty of seating and a pleasant atmosphere. We also ordered three different rolls, though I don't remember their names. The rolls were enjoyable and tasted good, but the overall flavor profile leaned more toward a Japanese-American fusion rather than classic Japanese cuisine. Overall, it's a comfortable place with good service and generous portions--nice for a casual meal, just not ideal if authenticity is what you're seeking.

I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years, so I was disappointed by my recent experience. On 6/22/2026, my bill was $55.38, and I left a $5 cash tip. However, when I checked my card transaction, I was charged $65.38 instead. I recommend that everyone take a photo of their receipt before leaving the restaurant and double-check the amount that posts to their account. I hope this was an honest mistake, but it's important to review your transactions carefully.

Are reservations necessary for a party of 5?

No reservations necessary. You just have to put your names on the waiting list.

Are they taking orders in New Year's Eve?

Hi, I'm wondering if you're open and accepting phone orders right now? I have called a few times with no response.

Yes they are open typically till 9. We go there 2-3 times a week. If you can get through they will take a phone order but depending on the time and day your call may not get picked up. Late afternoon/evening is the busiest. They are open everyday.

What hours do they only serve the lunch menu ? What time does dinner menu start?

Are they open during this pandemic for take-out?

    Yes

    Can you do Online ordering?

I wish they do but not yet.

    Do they have air conditioning?

Yes, totally do. Plus its by the water so its not usually very hot anyways.

Is this place all you can eat?

No it's not. AYCE sushi places are like D quality sushi lol.

I did not have any sushi so I won't be able to comment on that. Pork Belly Don was on the fatty side for my preference so end up needing to cut fat portions out before eating. Which is fine with me since I know there may be people who would like it. However, the taste was a little too salty and it did taste a little towards soy sauce pork belly, with the only difference that theirs is also very garlicky. Beef udon had reasonable udon though the beef was lacking in flavor. The beef meat could use some light seasoning before cooking so that it's more appealing vs being bland. Good customer service. Granted we were the only one eating in, while there were people doing take outs, they had good customer service. We left an item and didn't even notice, but they called us from our reservation info to get the item back to us - which I appreciate a lot. Due to being the only people eating in, it was on the quieter side with music playing in the background.

Based on the reviews I decided to stop by and order a roll to satisfy my craving. Upon entry, I noticed the restaurant was fairly empty (great) and it appeared that only one employee was working at the time. The employee was pleasant he answered my questions and was quick with completing my order. My roll appeared to be made with care and I couldn't wait to dive in. To say the least my roll was A-Mazing. The ingredients tasted fresh. The roll didn't burst open as I picked it up with my chopsticks, etc. My concern is with the prices. This Japanese restaurant food items are priced really high. I paid $25 dollars for a pretty basic tempura roll. I wanted to try some other items but didn't want to leave out paying $50 for a to go meal.

The food and drinks themselves had some real highlights. The premium hot sake was excellent, and the chicken teriyaki dish was delicious. To finish the meal, they served a complimentary parting dessert shot of plum wine, which was a fantastic touch. However, the kitchen timing was completely off. I ordered chicken teriyaki and a few sushi rolls, and both arrived at the exact same time. The rolls really should have come out first as an appetizer before the main entree. Worse, my food arrived long before my friend's meal came out. It was uncomfortable eating while he sat waiting, though he was gracious enough to tell me to go ahead. Additionally, I'd love to see more balance on the menu--there are a bit too many fried items packed into the sushi rolls. Overall, the food quality and sake are good, but the timing in the kitchen could definitely use some improvement.

Other cushion seat tables were also not wiped down and the cushion seats had crumbs and stains on them. A family came in and their high top table was wiped down . If you want the most bang for your buck, I'd opt for the bento box options, as portions look big. We ended up ordering a couple rolls (which is clearly not authentic japanese food, and anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about). I was trying to avoid all the imitation crab meat, so we ordered the Cowboy Bebop & the Mad Max rolls. But sadly there was imitation crab meat in the cowboy bebop which was a letdown. The Mad Max was pretty good though, I enjoyed how that one included pieces of tuna on the bottom. However, both rolls kept falling apart when trying to eat with chopsticks. On the counter service: each order in the line is fulfilled by a single server, but the layout makes this cumbersome and time-consuming for the staff (the server is also tasked with replenishing the broth and other serving containers). Apparently roles are sufficiently regimented that even when there's a long line, other staff members do not step in to assist or expedite the serving process. So admittedly I came here twice by accident because I forgot being here the first time. My wife and I will come into town there and again to hang out in Alameda and when we do, this is one of the better restaurants in town. Seems to me its a family operation, service is warm and friendly. Ambiance is laid back, cafe style. The menu has all the typical fare, I got the teryaki salmon meal both times and it was pretty good. Could use a little more sauce but you can always ask and I'm sure they'd be happy to provide at no charge. Also got the salmon collar which was particularly good. Prices are a little high for the area, but I would expect that given there's not a lot of sushi around, so they deserve the bump. 10$/nigiri though on some salmon is a *sconch* too high, they should do this a bit smarter. Only big things for me is just keep the hot sake HOT, it was mildly warm when I got mine, but this a common gripe I say about tons of places so not really gonna make a big deal about it. I'm on a mission to get house hot sake hotter across these lands. All in all, comparatively its great for Alameda, but would not stack up at these prices anywhere in Oakland, or SF. An excellent option of convenience if you don't feel like traveling.
