Nona Sushi is a cozy little spot tucked into the corner of Ramsey Commons. The service was friendly, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. I started with the Nona Signature Roll, made with salmon, bacon, seasoned scallops, avocado, shredded crab, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. At $14, I expected a little more. There was too much rice compared with the amount of filling, and the entire roll was heavily sauced. I couldn't really detect the bacon or avocado, and the salmon looked unusually pale. It wasn't horrible, and I still ate every piece because I was hungry, but I wasn't particularly impressed or full afterward. Since I was still hungry, I ordered the Rainbow Roll, which came with shredded crab, cucumber, four kinds of fish, avocado, spring sauce, and lobster sauce. The rice-to-fish ratio was much better on this one. There was still a lot of sauce pooled underneath the roll, but at least it wasn't poured all over the top, so I could taste the individual ingredients a little better. Overall, the quality and freshness of the fish seemed questionable. Nothing tasted obviously bad, but it also didn't taste especially fresh or high quality. It reminded me more of sushi from a grocery store or commissary than what I normally expect from a sit-down sushi restaurant. That said, the prices were similar to store-bought sushi, so I'm not completely mad about it. They also offer a 10% active-duty military discount, which is appreciated. Not terrible, definitely not great, but acceptable for the price.

I was pretty disappointed having talked-up the experience to my friends, who were just as bored watching some guy listlessly cook their food. This is a running pet peeve of mine in restaurants nowadays...as so many have gotten so stingy about offering spoons and/or forks...let alone a complete set of silverware.
