Truffle Albacore Carpaccio

This has become our favorite sushi spot in the valley. Before this place opened we would go to Katsuya in Northridge when we wanted really good sushi close to home. This may not be a popular opinion but I do think Kaen is actually better, the menu is bigger and everything we have tried has been pretty amazing. The staff is from Tomodachi the sushi place that was there before Kaen. Best staff very warm and friendly, most of them remembered us because it was my daughter's favorite spot for sushi before the fire closed Tomodachi. They have completely renovated and made it look so high end, it is very clean and welcoming. We have tried half the menu and have not been disappointed. I will include pictures because there were too many items to describe.

We had a very nice omakase dinner here on a Friday night for a party of 2. We were greeted on arrival and were seated at the bar. Service was very attentive and welcoming. We were checked on frequently, drinks were refilled promptly, and empty plates/bowls were removed promptly which allowed a clean space during our meal. We each ordered the omakase plate. Chef Sean was personable and friendly. Every dish was delightful to the eye, tasty and fresh to the palate. Flavors and ingredients worked well together. Chef explained each dish that were presented and each were offered at a good pace. There were moments that brought me back to the tastes we had in Japan. We also ordered a side of garlic beans that has a nice crunch in every bite and a side order of cucumber salad which was good. We ended the meal with an iced slush topped with a yuzu glaze and peels. It was refreshing. We will definitely be back with the family and look forward to trying other items on their menu!

The Bottom Line 3.5 stars: Decent food and service, but not outstanding and exceptional, given the broad and tough competition in the San Fernando Valley. Location 4 stars: In a large shopping plaza next to the Outback Steakhouse, on the Northwest corner of Reseda and Devonshire Boulevards in Northridge. Plenty of free parking on the lot. Venue 4 stars: This restaurant used to be called Tomo Sushi. It has been remodeled since and it looks modern and inviting. Indoor and outdoor seating as well as a sushi bar. Service 4 stars: Staff are friendly and helpful. Drinks 3 stars: No alcohol! They have just opened and do not have a liquor license yet! Food 3 stars: Huge menu of appetizers, specialty rolls, exotic sushi selections, ramen and other noodles, and some cooked entrees as well. You can also do Omakase. Prices are reasonable. We had the Garlic Edamame, the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, the Yellowtail Collar, the Chicken Teriyaki Don, the Negi-Hama Roll, the 911 Roll, the Albacore Special Roll, the Yuzu Halibut Roll, the Golden Tiger Roll. All were good but not great.

I love this spot. I always enjoy a place where I can get great sushi. I enjoy this flavors they provide from their Crunch rolls to Truffle albacore rolls to Katsu Don. The other options they have will not disappoint. The staff is great as Jocelyn was on point and very friendly. Parking is a non issue as it's in the same lot as the gym and the other restaurants.

Came during Mother's Day. Devonshire and Reseda plaza next to Coffee Bean / Outback Steakhouse. Inside is nice and clean. Has 5 booths. 5 tables inside of various sizes and 2 small tables outside. Also bar seating. One tv showing sports. Our server was Nathan. Key things They have uni Salmon sashimi 6 pieces for $17 and the slices are sizable They have set meals for $23.50 - akin to a bento box. With options to upgrade for an extra price. All in all, a nice sushi place and welcome addition to the plaza.

Beautiful restaurant inside with great service. My partner and I tried an assortment of items. We both liked the monkfish liver because it a rich yet citrusy. The yellowtail collar was a favorite because it was so juicy yet it had a crispy char. We got many nigiri as well as a kaisen-don. Most of the nigiri tasted fresh and good. For the kaisen-don, it was so much albacore and so much seared fish that it wasn't balanced. It seemed like a way to serve fish that they have a lot of or have leftovers of. Not worth the $49.50 price tag. I would not get the kaisen-don again, but I would return for the other items we had.

*refer to pics* Decided to try this sushi place (to-go) right beside coffee bean and Paris baguette. Great ambiance inside, the food is quality and definitely fresh. Definitely will be back and dine-in. Price point wise, you're paying for quality. 4.5 / 5

Another amazing fresh from the sea type joint and great service, what else can we ask for? Simple and good lighting for us to appreciate the dishes presentation. Wife craving for sushi and my son found this hot and new joint. I think they just barely open this month. But they are like professionals already so I take it they have another open before. Fish quality is amazing, thick cut sashimi and tasty seaweed We tried to order as many variants as we can but so many to choose from so this is what we ended up with. Give them a try and you will be back. I can see ourselves coming in once a week. Keep it up guys

I'm so excited to have excellent new sushi spot near my home! Mom and I were greeted immediately by Nina and seated right away. She was so enthusiastic about the menu and helpful with what to try first. We shared the Northridge roll and eight piece omakase. The Northridge roll was excellent. I especially loved the mango salsa. The presentation was also gorgeous! All my Yelpies are going to enjoy taking photos. The omakase was excellent! My favorite was the halibut. Chef-san added parilla inside the nigiri, which enhanced the fresh flavor of the fish. The red snapper was another favorite because of it's smokey flavor. Seriously, every piece of fish was so buttery and fresh. Next to the nigiri, there was a dish of wakamomo (young peach). It was so refreshing and delicious, I was tempted to steal mom's portion. The decoration is classy and open. I am a little concerned it might get loud when crowds come, but lunchtime was perfect. David, Nina, and the other staff, you are all off to an excellent start and I hope to become a regular. I can't wait to try other dishes.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday right after they opened and they got busy quickly so the word must be spreading about this place. Lots on the menu and so much to choose from. Fish was very fresh and rolls were a very good size and tasted really good. Yuzu halibut roil was my favorite. Service was great- friendly, prompt and very attentive. Restaurant is new and very clean. Lots of parking since it's in a large shopping center.

delicious sushi! fresh and so yummy. the negitoro cutroll, the spicy salmon handroll, and the yuzu halibut roll were my favs. the northridge roll had seared salmon but it was a little too salty. the sea bass was good, i like the crispy potato on top. the fish itself could have been a little softer and more tender. we also got some sushi nigiri. its per piece instead of the standard 2 pieces. its a little small for the price but delicious. service is friendly. food takes a bit to come out during busy hours. i recommend giving it a try! pretty yummy!

Mind blown!!! Great service, incredible sushi rice, and the fish is of the highest quality. I tried this for lunch during a weekday. I sat at the bar and asked for the 8 piece sushi omakase (chef's choice). The chef served each piece one at a time with an explanation of the fish. It was an experience. The sushi rice was incredible. And it paired so nice with the fish. I just can't say enough. Nothing stood out because everything stood out. If you are less adventurous with sushi don't fear, as they also make rolls and offer other non fish items on the menu. It is on the pricier side but it was so worth it. It's well worth more than they charged. I will say it tied my top two places in the Valley but for now it's my go to place. And I'm a total sushi snob.

This is our first time here. We love sushi and Japanese restaurants. This one just opened up about three weeks ago. It is a beautiful space. Staff is super nice! We were greeted right away. We sat at the bar. No liquor license YET. We were told maybe end of April/May ??? Nina was our server along with Eduardo. They were both excellent! Really sweet. You order with them at the sushi bar and tables. They have a large variety of menu items which looked great! We ordered a bunch of items. Asked for my favorite wasabi, Kizami, pickled wasabi and they had it :-) yay! SO SO good (see my pic). It is $4 extra. We started with the shishito peppers, mixed tempura, and spicy tuna crispy rice. All were really good. Tempura was fresh and yummy. Shishitos were tasty. The only thing I would do different next time is get the sauce on the side for the crispy rice. The picture on the menu did not show any sauce, so I didn't know. Too much sauce for me. If you're a saucy sushi person you will like it. The nigiri is one piece per order so we order 2 of everything for the two of us. The stand outs for us (out of the nigiri) were the Red Sea bream, yellowtail belly, blue fin tuna (and a few others but I honestly forgot all I ordered). The 911 roll was very good (we got with soy paper). Would def get again. The sushi chef (I didn't get his name, sorry) was really nice. Gave us a squid dish on the house. I thought that was a really sweet. I like squid, but the baby squid dish was not for me. I ate it, but I wouldn't order it. Not my jam. And I am a lover of squid. Not sure if I've ever had baby squid, but this wasn't for my taste buds. Beautiful presentation though. Thank you! The restaurant is beautiful! They have one TV (bb game was on, which we appreciate being sports fans). Music playing. 5+++ stars for the customer service! The staff couldn't be nicer. The food came out in a timely manner and our order was taken right away. Never felt rushed. Really great customer service. No complaints. We wish them much success! We hope they do very well! We will be back! There's more things I want to try :-p

Ankimo, a delicacy I really shouldn't order due to overfishing

Got here around 4ish (while still in happy hour time) and ordered everything off the HH menu. Everything was really good, made to order and fresh. ** they have gluten free soy sauce (you just have to ask). Normally, the all-you-can-eat lunch is $29.99 or $19.99 for rolls, which is pretty great. Yesterday, my wife and I decided to have a little date there around 2 PM and went for the all-you-can-eat option, thinking it would be just like any other Friday. We were excited to dive into some sushi and just enjoyed waters with our meal. When the bill came, we were a bit bothered to see that we were charged $39.99 per person, which is their dinner price that starts after 3 PM and on weekends. We asked about the price increase, and they told us it was a holiday pricing. We explained that the actual holiday is tomorrow, July 4, and many places were still open for business that day including banks and government facilities. While the staff was nice, they didn't have a clear reason for the price change, which felt a bit unfair. It's frustrating when prices change unexpectedly, especially without any notice. It kind of breaks the trust we've built over time. Because of this experience, we're going to take a break from this place and explore other sushi restaurants for a while. I really hope they reconsider how they handle pricing in the future.

Unfortunately, the meal was disappointing across multiple items. We started with the blue crab handroll (as shown in the picture). It had the wrong flavor and overall didn't feel fresh. Next, we ordered spicy scallop sushi, but it was not good--there was a clear "old" taste. We also tried the uni, which was very off-putting; it tasted strongly fishy and not like fresh uni should. For the spicy tuna on crispy rice, the rice was burnt, and the bottom had a greasy, burger-style residue that didn't work with the sushi--making the whole bite feel unpleasant rather than balanced. The miso soup was also extremely salty. I specifically asked for seaweed, but it never arrived. I also ordered the lemon roll. Some people describe sushi as "melting in your mouth," but in this case it felt more blended and mashed than properly prepared--disappointing in both texture and quality. By the end of the meal, I felt genuinely sick from the food. Overall, I left upset because I was really hoping for a fresh, enjoyable experience, and instead the quality and flavors were consistently off. I wouldn't recommend this visit until the ingredients and preparation are improved. The ambiance was crowded and horrible.
