Hey North Valley residents - we CAN have nice things. We CAN have good sushi. We don't have to go down to Ventura blvd, we have it HERE. I get it, we all love AYCE. There are many times that it makes sense and we have plenty of AYCE options around. But you have to occasionally go to Kaen and remember what really good sushi is about. Treat yourself. Go eat a pizza afterwards if you're feeling the pinch, but you need to remember what real sushi is like. There is a RADICAL difference in the quality of fish, the cuts, the way it's seasoned. Is it pretty? Yes, their presentation is great, but never at the expense of the way it TASTES. Another thing - their non-sushi dishes are AS good as the sushi. Which is unusual. Tempura, wagyu beef, cooked fish - it's amazing and so it's really really easy to bring children or people who don't eat raw fish here. I guarantee they will love the alternatives. read more

Came here fort the first time on a late Monday night. We were very well taken care of by our server Pauline. I had the shisho leaf uni appetizer... its truly melt in your mouth delicious. Our servers, Eduardo and Nina, were attentive, friendly, and made the entire evening feel welcoming. The owner, David, was incredibly personable and took the time to connect with us and other customers, which added a great personal touch to the experience. The food was EXCELLENT across the board. The blue crab hand roll and baked snow crab hand roll were SO DELICIOUS!! We also ordered the garlic beans and brussel sprouts, which were both flavorful. My personal favorite was the truffle salmon blue crab roll, easily one of the best rolls I've ever had. The flavor was out of this world and the salt on top of the truffle just made my mouth water with every bite. It just kept getting better and better!! Absolutely amazing gem i discovered. Went for lunch yesterday and I was so pleased everything was super fresh, came out fast, and was delicious. It was quiet when I came around 2pm, very chill and great for a nice lunch. Our server was extremely friendly and made sure to get us everything we needed. First off the miso glazed sea bass was so good I forgot to even take a picture of it after tasting it. The A5 wagyu was simply magnificent, all the flavors combined so well. The highlight of the dinner was the Mori 4 sashimi plate. Just look at the presentation.. every piece carefully placed. Everything was so fresh and you can taste the premium quality. Stopped in after a CSUN Basketball game for dinner and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the sushi! Every roll we ordered (tempura and fresh) were very delicious, the fish was very tasty and fresh, right amount of rice, and overall the presentation of each roll was very nice too. The server was very attentive and so friendly. She informed us they will have their liquor license in 3 months but you can BYOB with no cork fee so that is a great option. The restaurant is a bit small so im sure as it becomes more popular it will be full at peak times and the ambiance is very serene and warm. It truly feels like a nicer sushi restaurant than you would expect in a shopping center. This is definitely a "I'm coming back!" place because we enjoyed the food, the service was great, the ambiance was nice and I can't wait to come back to try more rolls!!! read more

The staff are amazing, Jocilin(spelling?!) and Sky are super attentive. Not to play favorites but Jocilin was part of the reason we came back, it feels like a great community to be part of. The sushi is so fresh you'd swear they were reeling them in off the docks just to plate them for you. Tuna so buttery, fat, and tasty that your taste buds sing with joy. I'm making myself hungry thinking about the food and I literally just left there an hour ago! It's cool that this place is within walking distance but also so dangerous because it's so good I would go broke eating my weight in fish everyday if I could. Prices were not bad but the food quality and flavors were not great. We ordered a spicy crispy rice (subpar), lemon roll (average), and an omakase plate that the chef prepared (not good at all; I struggled to eat it because I didn't want to hurt their feelings ‍). They also do not have a liquor license so you cannot order alcohol. And the sushi bar is tiny yet 1/2 of it isn't usable as they have it covered with plates and other kitchenware. read more

I never write reviews but this new sushi restaurant is worth mentioning. Their sushi melts in your mouth and is some of the freshest fish I have ever tried. I was complimenting the owner on their fresh fish and he said it was shipped from Japan! They have a variety of different types of Japanese food on the menu to please even the pickiest eater and their cooked dishes were also delicious. I went to this restaurant on a Saturday, early evening & I was told the wait would be 20 -30 minutes for 2 & they don't serve alcohol. No mention was ever made about a reservation. I wait, two tables become available, but the staff puts 'reserved' on them. I had already been waiting for a while, so I ask how much longer would the wait be, a hostess asked if I had a reservation, & when I said no I was told the wait would be another 20 -30 minutes.
