Kai 1- 5pc Nigiri and Spicy Tuna Cut Roll

What a soild new sushi spot in Granada Hills of the corner of Reseda and Devonshire St. next to Outback Steak. There's plenty of parking but tiny spots. We came here on a Friday for an early dinner and was seated right away. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. After looking through the menu i see they also offer an Omakase dinning for a reasonable price but decided to pass it this time around. We ordered the following diner set: Kaisen Don- The was fantastic, you got 10 different types of fish 2pc each. That includes Toro, Bafun Uni and Sweet Shrimp with the fried head. The fish were fresh and the cuts were a good size cuts. What made this Kaisen Don even better was the (Shari) sushi rice. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned with red vinegar. UNA- Don- My wife order this and she enjoyed it. They were very generous with the Unagi. I love it that it came with bunch if pickles side. KAI -1- My son order the 5pc Nigiri with Spicy Tuna. He enjoyed it. Also the sushi rice for the nigiri was perfectly done. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here and would likely return and try their Omakase. Until our next visit.

This has become our favorite sushi spot in the valley. Before this place opened we would go to Katsuya in Northridge when we wanted really good sushi close to home. This may not be a popular opinion but I do think Kaen is actually better, the menu is bigger and everything we have tried has been pretty amazing. The staff is from Tomodachi the sushi place that was there before Kaen. Best staff very warm and friendly, most of them remembered us because it was my daughter's favorite spot for sushi before the fire closed Tomodachi. They have completely renovated and made it look so high end, it is very clean and welcoming. We have tried half the menu and have not been disappointed. I will include pictures because there were too many items to describe.

We had a very nice omakase dinner here on a Friday night for a party of 2. We were greeted on arrival and were seated at the bar. Service was very attentive and welcoming. We were checked on frequently, drinks were refilled promptly, and empty plates/bowls were removed promptly which allowed a clean space during our meal. We each ordered the omakase plate. Chef Sean was personable and friendly. Every dish was delightful to the eye, tasty and fresh to the palate. Flavors and ingredients worked well together. Chef explained each dish that were presented and each were offered at a good pace. There were moments that brought me back to the tastes we had in Japan. We also ordered a side of garlic beans that has a nice crunch in every bite and a side order of cucumber salad which was good. We ended the meal with an iced slush topped with a yuzu glaze and peels. It was refreshing. We will definitely be back with the family and look forward to trying other items on their menu!

The Bottom Line 3.5 stars: Decent food and service, but not outstanding and exceptional, given the broad and tough competition in the San Fernando Valley. Location 4 stars: In a large shopping plaza next to the Outback Steakhouse, on the Northwest corner of Reseda and Devonshire Boulevards in Northridge. Plenty of free parking on the lot. Venue 4 stars: This restaurant used to be called Tomo Sushi. It has been remodeled since and it looks modern and inviting. Indoor and outdoor seating as well as a sushi bar. Service 4 stars: Staff are friendly and helpful. Drinks 3 stars: No alcohol! They have just opened and do not have a liquor license yet! Food 3 stars: Huge menu of appetizers, specialty rolls, exotic sushi selections, ramen and other noodles, and some cooked entrees as well. You can also do Omakase. Prices are reasonable. We had the Garlic Edamame, the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, the Yellowtail Collar, the Chicken Teriyaki Don, the Negi-Hama Roll, the 911 Roll, the Albacore Special Roll, the Yuzu Halibut Roll, the Golden Tiger Roll. All were good but not great.

I love this spot. I always enjoy a place where I can get great sushi. I enjoy this flavors they provide from their Crunch rolls to Truffle albacore rolls to Katsu Don. The other options they have will not disappoint. The staff is great as Jocelyn was on point and very friendly. Parking is a non issue as it's in the same lot as the gym and the other restaurants.

Came during Mother's Day. Devonshire and Reseda plaza next to Coffee Bean / Outback Steakhouse. Inside is nice and clean. Has 5 booths. 5 tables inside of various sizes and 2 small tables outside. Also bar seating. One tv showing sports. Our server was Nathan. Key things They have uni Salmon sashimi 6 pieces for $17 and the slices are sizable They have set meals for $23.50 - akin to a bento box. With options to upgrade for an extra price. All in all, a nice sushi place and welcome addition to the plaza.

This place opened four months ago. The design of the place is very clean and welcoming. They have a big variety of a menu. All fish are very fresh and high-quality. I did have the truffle sushi and carpaccio, which was very tasty. I and if you wanna try something that night in your mouth, I will definitely recommend the Wago . I really recommend trying this restaurant and I know that they're gonna get very busy soon..

Beautiful restaurant inside with great service. My partner and I tried an assortment of items. We both liked the monkfish liver because it a rich yet citrusy. The yellowtail collar was a favorite because it was so juicy yet it had a crispy char. We got many nigiri as well as a kaisen-don. Most of the nigiri tasted fresh and good. For the kaisen-don, it was so much albacore and so much seared fish that it wasn't balanced. It seemed like a way to serve fish that they have a lot of or have leftovers of. Not worth the $49.50 price tag. I would not get the kaisen-don again, but I would return for the other items we had.

*refer to pics* Decided to try this sushi place (to-go) right beside coffee bean and Paris baguette. Great ambiance inside, the food is quality and definitely fresh. Definitely will be back and dine-in. Price point wise, you're paying for quality. 4.5 / 5

Another amazing fresh from the sea type joint and great service, what else can we ask for? Simple and good lighting for us to appreciate the dishes presentation. Wife craving for sushi and my son found this hot and new joint. I think they just barely open this month. But they are like professionals already so I take it they have another open before. Fish quality is amazing, thick cut sashimi and tasty seaweed We tried to order as many variants as we can but so many to choose from so this is what we ended up with. Give them a try and you will be back. I can see ourselves coming in once a week. Keep it up guys

I'm so excited to have excellent new sushi spot near my home! Mom and I were greeted immediately by Nina and seated right away. She was so enthusiastic about the menu and helpful with what to try first. We shared the Northridge roll and eight piece omakase. The Northridge roll was excellent. I especially loved the mango salsa. The presentation was also gorgeous! All my Yelpies are going to enjoy taking photos. The omakase was excellent! My favorite was the halibut. Chef-san added parilla inside the nigiri, which enhanced the fresh flavor of the fish. The red snapper was another favorite because of it's smokey flavor. Seriously, every piece of fish was so buttery and fresh. Next to the nigiri, there was a dish of wakamomo (young peach). It was so refreshing and delicious, I was tempted to steal mom's portion. The decoration is classy and open. I am a little concerned it might get loud when crowds come, but lunchtime was perfect. David, Nina, and the other staff, you are all off to an excellent start and I hope to become a regular. I can't wait to try other dishes.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday right after they opened and they got busy quickly so the word must be spreading about this place. Lots on the menu and so much to choose from. Fish was very fresh and rolls were a very good size and tasted really good. Yuzu halibut roil was my favorite. Service was great- friendly, prompt and very attentive. Restaurant is new and very clean. Lots of parking since it's in a large shopping center.

delicious sushi! fresh and so yummy. the negitoro cutroll, the spicy salmon handroll, and the yuzu halibut roll were my favs. the northridge roll had seared salmon but it was a little too salty. the sea bass was good, i like the crispy potato on top. the fish itself could have been a little softer and more tender. we also got some sushi nigiri. its per piece instead of the standard 2 pieces. its a little small for the price but delicious. service is friendly. food takes a bit to come out during busy hours. i recommend giving it a try! pretty yummy!

What I received instead was popcorn chicken, which was unexpected and not at all what I had in mind. There was no communication that this would be the substitute, which made it even more frustrating. On top of that, I was still charged for it without any clarification beforehand. Transparency goes a long way, especially when making substitutions. This is one of the few Mitsuwa that doesn't have a food court (San Gabriel is another one without). The premade food section was surprisingly pretty good, better options than the Torrance or Santa Monica locations, imo. They do carry the same poke bowl that is also sold at Torrance. The store closes at 9:00pm, so the premade food section is pretty much cleared out and the self checkout is closed by around 8:00pm. The late hours actually got the busiest because only one staffed cash register was open and customers had to get in line instead of the self checkout. The store is clean and spacious, lots of self checkouts that are open during the day, and the bathrooms were clean (just need to get the code from a staff member!). I came three times on a weekday, once a little after lunch and another right around 5:30 and then around 8:00. Parking was a breeze every time. They have plenty of parking adjacent to the store. The other side of the shopping center gets a little busy, but Mitsuwa is at the comfortable corner closest to the train tracks. Getting out of the parking lot can be challenging because Tampa is a busy street and some people try to make a left turn out (I have my opinions about that lol). If heading out towards CSUN, the shopping center also has two exits out to Nordhoff so that worked well for me. I was in the area for a few job interviews... If I am hired nearby I'm definitely coming to this Mitsuwa a lot :)
