Cute sushi spot near Phil's bbq. Very warm and inviting inside and I like all the booths and how spaced out they are even in the center of the restaurant. There's a lot of businesses around this area so I can see Sushi Kami being a popular spot for a go-to lunch outside of work. We came for dinner and got seated right away and it wasn't too busy at all. It was nice but still casual at the same time if that makes sense. I will say the parking was a little tight and we had to make a bit of an awkward U-turn to get to the restaurant but the lot wasn't that full so it wasn't too bad but I could see this being trickier in the daytime. I really enjoyed both the spicy tuna and salmon. I've had a lot of weird spicy tuna but this one hit just right. It's always hard to find that perfect balance between fish and spice but I really enjoyed this one. The salmon was good too. The standout was definitely the tempura we got as well. It was large and came out hot and crispy and perfect. This is the type of sushi restaurant I could take people to who don't necessarily like sushi all that much. There's lots of options on the menu including bulgogi (next time I shall try!) and really good combos for people to enjoy. Ambiance is chill but still has that fun sushi vibe with the displays of fish (and I even saw some creative fish decorating on the walls which I thought was a nice touch) Service was nice and they always refilled our waters without us having to ask. After our 2yo got her soccer skills in down the road we found ourselves in this gem. What a surprise and how amazing the experience. We arrived shortly after they opened and I can't say enough about the service and quality of the fish. It's a small little restaurant, clean and spacious as we comfortably had our tank of a stroller in between tables with ample room for other patrons and servers to get by. To drink we started with water and obviously an Orion and for appetizers we started our Sushi Kami journey with the Agedashi Tofu, Spicy Edamame, and Uni Nigiri. We then followed up with the Lemon Yellowtail and Medium Sashimi. For desert, because everything was so dang good we had to get the Yuzu Cheesecake! I will say it wasn't my favorite Edamame, still good, but a little Japanese restaurant is Mill Creek, Washington still holds the #1 spot. Also the Agedashi Tofu although perfectly cooked and grateful that the sauce was served on the side so it wouldn't turn to mush wasn't my favorite things we tried here. All the fish was absolutely phenomenal, fresh, flavor factor for the rolls we got, spot on. The Yuzu Cheesecake definitely was the cherry on top. The service was great. We arrived very shortly after they opened and our server Waka was so sweet and personable. Very attentive and just the sweetest. We will definitely find our way back to this gem. Incredibly good value for their lunch menu! Can't believe how much you can get in a lunch bento box for less than $20. The servers are very sweet and kind and checked many times to ensure we received everything we ordered. The food was disappointing. We ordered agedashi tofu for my kids and instead of coming out with dashi broth - they brought out citrus ponzu which was odd. The rolls we ordered we overpriced with lots of fillers like imitation crab and barely anything else. Super skimpy on the avocado and even cucumbers. The dragon roll usually has shrimp tempura but the one here is again just 98% imitation crab and 2% cucumber with eel and a little avocado over it. The miso soup here is fantastic! I wonder what they do differently to give it such a great flavor. The batter on the tempura is also notable - light, fluffy, and not too oily. The agedashi tofu was a bit of a miss, however, as there was minimal flavor between the batter and the dipping sauce. On another positive note, I especially enjoyed the lemon salmon roll, and they were nice enough to sear the fish for me. I don't know how I've passed this place so many times since it's right next to my doctor's office and extremely close to the freeway. The parking lot is small, and only on a one way side of the street, but still worth making a trip in. I wasn't too hungry so my husband and I shared 2 rolls, nigiri and I couldn't pass up dessert! The rolls were good, we enjoyed both, but if we're honest, the clear star of the night was the fried onions that came with the samurai roll. If those are sold as an appetizer they'd run out of onions so quickly they were addicting! We couldn't stop snacking on them, as they were the perfect appetizer, especially with some spicy Mayo to dip them in. All of the fish was delicious what we tried and quality of the fish was perfect. Maybe it was the lighting or the ingredients they use in the sauce. They were glazed-looking rather than doused in spicy mayo sauce. When we first got there we had to wait because they didn't have tables available for five people. It comes with lettuce wraps and wonton chips. They fry the wonton chips in house so it's fresh and delicious. FYI if you ask for extra they charge $3. We thought it was free :( Tempura green tea ice cream - it was a lot larger than I expected. Lots of ice cream and tempura. It was worth the money. The star of the meal for me was the toro sashimi.
