Ordered the Tempura Udon and two orders of Takoyaki via Uber Eats. The shrimp tempura batter on the shrimp from the udon was not fully cooked. There was gloopy raw batter underneath the outside fried part. The takoyaki was ice cold. Now I would typically attribute this to Uber Eats taking too long to deliver. But given the raw tempura batter and my drivers quick arrival, I believe this is fully on the restaurant. Absolutely disgusting. read more

This is our go to spot for sushi in the area. Arrived around 7 pm on a Saturday night - dining room was fairly busy but several open tables so we were seated immediately. Our table of four enjoyed salted edamame and yellowtail as appetizers before devouring four different rolls. We almost always get the same two or three and then try one or two different ones on each visit. Sushi can vary based on the chef. We are never disappointed- the fish and all other ingredients are so fresh - you can't go wrong. Our servers were all friendly and provided great service. I've been coming here for years. There was a period where the quality has changed. But in the recent year it's become pretty decent again. Sour: The service can be pretty slow even when the restaurant is not that busy. At times it seems there's only one server covering the restaurant. With the amazing deals, I truthfully come here once a month with my family! I am telling you all, the prices are worth! Some rolls being so cheap where you feel inclined to purchase two just because of how cheap it is! Do not get me wrong though, the food quality still hits! The quality of the fish has gone down a little, but to make up for it, the price is also more affordable. All of the rolls and sushi are 50% off. Other items on the menu have also slightly decreased in price. When I see sushi 50% off, that automatically raises a red flag: Why? Is it because it's not fresh and they want to get rid off it? Our server explained that they buy fish in large quantities so they don't run out, and since they can't keep fish, it's better to sell it all. If they lowered their price, then they hope to bring in more customers to sell all of the fish. Apparently, they updated their menus in August 2025 to reflect the new lowered price. I didn't care for the salmon belly. It didn't taste fresh to me and it was chewy in texture. Salmon belly should have a soft buttery texture so I'm not sure why it was chewy. The staff is mediocre at best - times I have dined here before, not by my personal choice but bc my friends picked the place, the service wasn't great. Staff is just always in a rush. I ordered from them through Uber Eats, where they had a promotion for buy one, get one free for a $38 item. When I ordered it, when it came, I only received one of them, but they charged me the full price, which I never paid if it wasn't buy one, get one free. When I called them to ask if they could make it right, they told me that it was Uber's problem and they have plenty of money, so I should go to them. I asked if there was no way they could make it right, since they are the ones benefiting from getting new customers through the promotion. I was then told that they couldn't do anything about it. I cannot and will not recommend Boto Sushi to anyone. My experience was extremely disappointing and very misleading. When the server brought out my salad, her finger was actually in my food. The rice was hard and dried out, which immediately raised concerns about quality and freshness. I ordered a spicy tuna hand roll and hamachi kama, which took about 20-30 minutes to come out. Once I finished and left the restaurant, my stomach became upset, which only added to the overall negative experience. I honestly don't believe they use fresh ingredients. We enjoyed the Chicken Karaage and Shrimp Tempura as appetizers and the Crunch roll, Philadelphia roll, Scottish Salmon roll, and Dragon roll. Chicken karaage was my favorite one out of the two apps; had a good crisp to them. All rolls were delicious but especially liked the Scottish Salmon for the ponzu flavor and the Crunch for the texture. No complaints regarding freshness for the price we paid. You would think that if their menu says a roll is $13.95 that it would be half off that price, but NO the prices listed on the menu are already half off and is the actual price. So you mean to tell me that my baked scallop roll would actually be $28??? What a rip off! Who in their right mind would pay $28 for a roll unless it's a fancy establishment. I ordered a baked scallop roll to go and it wasn't even baked which is what I wanted. They separated the sushi roll from the scallops and included sauce to pour on top. I understand not wanting the to-go sushi to get soggy, but to me this is not a baked roll. I randomly got this ad for this restaurant on Instagram and saw they had 50% off sushi and sushi rolls! This was very enticing that my friend and I decided to check it out for dinner one night. The location that we went to is located in a corner in between Omni Lashes and Oi Asian Fusion in Carmel Mountain Ranch Town Center. There's a large open parking lot with ample stalls in the plaza. The other location is in Del Mar, but we weren't sure if they were owned by the same company/person. Prior to coming, I called the restaurant to ask about their 50% sushi roll deal. The worker who answered my call clarified that their 50% sushi and sushi roll deal only applied to certain items on the menu. This was good information as I was under the impression that ALL sushi and sushi rolls were 50% off. I checked their online takeout menu, and the deal applied to some pretty good items. My group and I definitely wanted to take advantage of the deal happening. We ordered: - Garlic Edamame - lots of garlic, YUM! - Salmon Truffle Carpaccio - not much truffle flavor but the salmon was delicious. - Seared Cajun Tuna Nigiri - very unique flavor! It had a strong smokiness to it which definitely took up the entirety of the nigiri. We were surprised by how good it was! - Rainbow Roll - the tuna was oddly very red/pink which also showed that it wasn't fresh. I didn't like the tuna on this roll but the rest of the proteins were good. - Dragon Roll - nothing special but still very good! - Albacore Special - this was an okay roll. I realized I'm not a huge albacore fan unless it was super fresh. Like out of the ocean fresh, haha. - Bottom Feeder - this roll was soooo good that we ordered another round of this LOL I would say it's a relatively generic roll with crunchy spicy minced tuna on top and shrimp tempura as a filling. Normally my usual go to and this restaurant did not disappoint! Overall, my group and I were quite surprised at how good the quality of the restaurant was being located inland! NO SOY SAUCE ON AN $80 sushi delivery order?!?! I ordered from Uber Eats, and added in the product notes (receipt attached) to please give me soy sauce packets. Welp, no soy sauce was in my order whatsoever. We order very basic sushi rolls and dipping them In Soy sauce is a must to make it taste decent. This is absolutely ridiculous they can't just toss a few packets of soy sauce in every to go order. I will never use this restaurant again. Under didn't help at all, and in fact uber gave no option on the app to add utensils and condiments which is why I made a note on one of the items to add soy sauce. Customer service just seems to be non existent for to-go/delivery orders and I am sick of it. For instance, on a recent visit, the new manager dropped off a stack of dishes, napkins, and chopsticks at our group's table rather than setting the table. In addition, we noted that only some tables were offered a complimentary Mother's Day dessert while others were not. And, now, the new manager will not accept account email offers unless you place the order online. She also wants to charge extra if you request more ginger on takeout orders.
