Ordered two rolls for lunch, Caterpillar roll that was California roll with eel was ok. And a salmon roll, the salmon was off (slightly fishy). Now for the service...the server seemed apathetic and distracted by their phone. When asking about the beer selection they seemed annoyed...at least the beer was cold. The server never came to ask how our food was, and after we finished while picking up our plates and asks, and I quote "do you want any more food?". Said with an even more apathetic tone...I have never heard that before from a server! It's been over a year since our last visit which was a bad a this one. So many better options just in Poway at this point. Train your servers better, or expect declining customer patronage. Hostess and ambiance was good. read more

Great place! Friendly! Yummy! Great parking! A lot of space. It's a solid, casual sushi spot to go to in Poway if you're in the mood for sushi and happen to be in the area. Sushi Lounge in Poway is a great spot for fresh, quality sushi with fast and friendly service. Although the table were a bit close together, the place is clean and not too big, but when we went it wasn't crowded, which made for a really relaxed vibe. We hit the sweet spot in the early afternoon when both happy hour and the lunch menu were running. Seriously, if you can go around 3:30, that's money. We shared a few rolls off the happy hour menu along with a lunch combo, and it was the perfect amount for three people. Toss in a couple of large sakes and we were set. The fish here is NOT fresh! We tried some of their rolls and Nigiri. Horrible. Their fish to rice ratio is a joke. TOO MUCH rice and not true sushi rice. Tastes like rice from a pot and DRY. Very clean and the staff is very friendly and attentive. The Menu is small and to the point filled with tasty house specialties to choose from. I chose several things for lunch. The Pork Gyoza. $9.25 I must say they were the Best Pork Pan Fried Dumplings i can remember ever having. The Perfect Starter. Next I ordered their Top Speciality Sushi Roll. And a side dish of the House Made Cucumber Salad. $6.25 The Chuck Norris Roll. $19.95 Pricy but packed with a nice selection of seafood goodness. I enjoyed it and makes me want to try more of their Specialty Rolls. Service was speedy and efficient. Looking forward to my next visit. read more

Solid sushi spot in Poway. VIBE: Simple and sleek inside. Can get pretty busy even on weekdays; it's a popular neighborhood restaurant. FOOD: Good. While I prefer other sushi spots for the speciality rolls and sashimi, I do enjoy their more basic options (edamame, crunch roll, etc). I particularly like the Jaimpeno appetizer! Fresh food, great service, this bento box has great variety of food. From salad, to tempura veggies, rice, chicken, sautéed mushrooms and California rolls.. I'm in heaven ! It's a great atmosphere. I prefer to sit outside too. Definitely will be back soon. read more

We arrived about 12:45 in the afternoon for some lunchtime sushi. We haven't been to this sushi restaurant before, so it was nice to see an area outside of the restaurant. We decided to sit outside since it was such a nice day. There were not very many people while we were there so it was nice and the person who took our order came and went often enough to not be a bother but was attentive. The sushi we ordered was good, the miso soup was better than average. Overall, an above average experience. Three people, $100 which included the tip. A little bit on the expensive side, but not too bad given today's costs. read more

eview for Sushi Lounge We stopped by Sushi Lounge for lunch and were hoping for a good experience, especially since I've enjoyed it in the past. It wasn't very busy when we arrived. We waited briefly to be seated, and the hostess was super friendly she let us know that our server would be right with us. Unfortunately, after being seated, we waited several minutes without so much as a greeting or acknowledgment from any of the staff. Eventually, we decided to leave. It was disappointing, especially knowing how great this place can be based on past visits. I really hope this was just an off day, but it might be time for management to step in and support the staff better if they're overwhelmed. One of my favorite Happy Hour specials at Sushi Lounge Poway is their "Crispy Rice"! Four portions of fried rice, served nigiri style, crowned with spicy albacore, beautiful avocado slices, jalapeño and a yuzu truffle jalapeño vinaigrette. I just love all the contrasting textures and flavors going on with this one. Pairs perfectly with a nice, crisp draft Asahi beer. While the servers were so kind, everything was slightly slow to come out which was strange considering how many working vs. how many ordering. I have NEVER had a bad experience at Sushi Lounge. At a different location, they made a minor error in my order and the owner, Katie, took good care of me. At this location, I have gotten takeout for years and dined in. My go-to is usually the lunch combination, unagi roll, and spider or caterpillar roll, with miso soup. My latest trip there, I had a wonderful experience, the restaurant is spacious and I was able to enjoy my lunch on a sunny afternoon. This is just a public service message that your should NOT get the "Ring of Fire" specialty roll. My goodness what a trainwreck of a creation that really took the name to heart. The photo on the website is nothing like what was served with huge globs of sauce on top. It was so gross. I have to pick off the entire top plus the fried serrano inside once I realized this was just way too much combined spicy things. I should have known better / known what I was getting into but I've never experienced something this out of whack. I wish they had photos on their hard copy menus as I've seen elsewhere...I guess I should have gone to the website but even then I wouldnt have been prepared for this particular item. The only hot tea they have is green tea, which was a bummer since I wanted hot uncaffeinated tea for the evening. Most places have jasmine. In my opinion it's a little pricey unless you're going during their lunch special, in which case it's definitely worth it! The rolls themselves were very good. A couple of factors weigh heavily on a sushi bar earning a 5-star rating. 1) Consistently having otoro, uni, and live amaebi in stock, and 2) having a friendly and personable relationship with the chef and serving staff. My family and I always come early on the weekends to sit at the bar with Chef Masa san and he serves up the finest cuts with creative garnishes. Yes, we're the people that take pics for the 'gram (yamane.eats). The otoro is so fresh, oily, and melts like butter...just like the uni. The live amaebi is one of my favorites and you will not find this at most sushi bars. The wait staff is very attentive and quick. I wouldn't say that we're regulars, but we go often enough that we are recognized and are friendly to the staff. Outdoor seating is nice and occasionally I'll sit out on the patio for business lunches. read more

A girlfriend and I came here right at opening on a weekday and luckily we were able to avoid any kind of crowd or wait time. I was overall really pleased and happy with the sushi rolls (also the perfect ratio of rice to fish) and presentation was BOMB! My favorite was the shrimp shumai and the creamy sauce it was drizzled with along with some soy sauce. Yummm!!! We also had the sweetest waitress who checked on us often and filled our drinks.
