Met family here for our monthly family dinner. My son and his girlfriend said this is their favorite go to sushi spot. Im very particular about my sushi and my son is a foodie so I was excited to try it. Upon entering all the staff stopped and shouted a welcome and we were quickly seated. While we were chatting and catching up our waitress was very mindful amd allowed us to have time but after dod a quick check in to ensure we didn't need anything. We had 2 orders of the fried gyoza and they were cooked to perfection. We also had the spicy garlic edamame was the best I've ever had. It was absolutely delicious. My son ordered the tom and Jerry, frankly I cant remember what it was but again it was so delicious. I love salmon carpaccio and have a hard time finding it. We ordered the salmon carpaccio and the day was so fresh and butter with the amazing sauce with the carpaccio I could habe had 3 more orders of this alone. We ordered a couple more rolls (Jennifer and a spicy tempura roll), not shocking, they were both fresh and delicious! We had 2 non-sushi eaters with us and they had the beef fried rice and sesame chicken. Both were huge portions and once again the flavor was so robust and delicious. I would have a hard time not having either on my next visit. The ambiance in this location had a neighborhood sushi restaurant vibe. It was cold when we were there, but it was a colder night. The restuarants was clean and brightly lit.

It was a rare Saturday night with no plans, so my husband, daughter and I headed out for dinner... After a super long wait at another restaurant, we ended up at Sushi Michi and were pleased to be seated upon arrival without a reservation. Service was attentive and food was fresh and delicious. It's a clean, more casual atmosphere - no frills, which is fine with us! We ordered a variety of menu items including nigiri, maki, handrolls, and the korean chirashi bowl. We cleaned our plates and were in and out pretty quickly! One note -- especially if you are with kids or folks without a taste for wasabi -- the salmon nigiri comes with a drop of wasabi in between the rice and the fish. My daughter learned this the hard way. It all worked out as my husband and I ate her original order and round two we knew to order without wasabi! We will be back!

Wonderful experience! Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The sushi was amazing, try the Dustin roll! The baked mussels were delicious, balanced flavors of salty and savory. Every sushi we tried was next level, excellent mouth feel, the fish was sauced perfectly. Clean and inviting atmosphere, the glass bottles lit up on the walls were a nice touch. I will definitely be back.

Stopped in for lunch after grabbing a coffee at Cafe Mollie (right around the corner) & was pleasantly surprised. It was not super busy so we got sat immediately & the menu selection was pretty vast. The appetizers were yummy & the fish tasted pretty fresh. I would totally come back again! Service was also great!

Would give this place 6 stars if I could! Food was AMAZING and our server, Ju was the sweetest and so funny. Surprised me with a delicious fried cheesecake for my birthday. Thank you so much!!! Will definitely be coming back with more people

We decided to eat here before a concert and we were very happy that we stopped in. Walking in we were immediately given a table. The entire restaurant is very cute and clean. Once side has smaller tables to seat a group of 4 and the other side has the capability to seat larger groups such as families. The menu is comprehensive and offers a variety of items. The portions are large and satisfying. It is a little pricier then other places we have been but we felt that the price we paid was worth the experience we had. We will definitely go again.

I tried out Sushi Michi for an early dinner Saturday night. The restaurant interior is casual, with bar seating available if you're dining alone. The menu had a lot to offer and it sounds like they have a pretty solid happy hour on weeknights. We ordered the soft crab to start and then enjoyed the 6-piece sushi combo and spicy ramen. The food came out quickly and the presentation was a nice touch. The fish was fresh but the real standout was the octopus. The spicy ramen left a lot to be desired, it was very heavy on the cabbage and there wasn't a lot else in the broth. It was spicy without being overwhelming and the pork was prepared well. We had a great server but it was clear the restaurant was understaffed. If you're worried about parking, they have a small lot at the back

This is a great addition to the 16th Street restaurant corridor. The menu is extensive, the food is fresh and tasty, and the service is great. A group of four of us ordered a hodgepodge of sushi rolls and we were not disappointed. Each roll had a specific flavor and allowed us the opportunity to enjoy a number of different textures. We started with miso soup. Not quite hot enough but yummy. We didn't have dessert as we were all stuffed by the end of the meal. The inside decor is clean and has an eastern/Asian vibe. The waitress was very helpful. There is a good-sized parking lot around back because there are only a couple of spaces in the front. Try this place for some great sushi rolls.

I love hiding away here for a solo meal. What a nice and talented man Puma is. I could chat and share food stories with him for hours. I hope the owner puts this special roll on the menu someday. No soy sauce needed folks. I'd eat this roll everyday, and I'm typically a nigiri gal. Elina is an attentive and sweet server. See you guys soon!

Funny enough, this actually wasn't even the exact restaurant my partner had been thinking of when he brought it up, but honestly I'm so glad we ended up here anyway because the food was REALLY good. We ordered the flaming ohmygod sushi roll, and man... it was amazing. Not only was the presentation fun, but the sushi itself actually tasted incredible too, which sometimes isn't the case with more "gimmicky" menu items. It was so good that I literally ordered another roll to-go and took it on the plane back home with me because I already knew I'd be craving it later. That alone should say enough about how much I liked it. I also tried the matcha martini, and it was honestly one of the best cocktails I've had in a while. It had the perfect balance of matcha flavor and alcohol where neither one overpowered the other. Sometimes matcha drinks either taste way too earthy or completely lose the matcha flavor under the alcohol, but this one was super smooth, flavorful, and really well done. The restaurant itself also has a really nice atmosphere. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and the indoor area definitely has a more upscale vibe than your usual sushi spot and that makes the experience feel a little more elevated and perfect for a date night. On top of all that, the servers were super friendly and provided genuinely great service throughout the meal. Everyone was attentive, welcoming, and made the experience feel really comfortable and enjoyable. Overall, this place completely exceeded my expectations. They have a table or two outside but they're not setup for outdoor seating, fyi. The restaurant is nicely decorated and dark, which took some getting used to. We were greeted warmly and chose a booth towards the right. I had noticed their lunch specials offered M-F 11-2pm so we both ordered from that menu. I got the L/Cali+Shrimp Tempura Combo: California Roll (Half Size), Shrimp Tempura Roll (Half Size), Gyoga(3PCS), Miso Soup. My companion got the L/Rainbow+Dynamite Combo: Rainbow Roll (Half Size), Dynamite Roll (Half Size), 2PCS Nigiri (Chef Choice), Miso Soup. Our soups were brought out pretty quickly and our food not long after. For the price point ($12) and quantity, my lunch special was definitely worth it. It came with 10 California rolls, 5 shrimp tempura rolls, and 3 gyozas. I was pleased to see their gyozas have chicken in them, usually they have pork so I can't eat them. I love their purple rice - so unique. I don't think I'd tried it before and it was good. All of the items I tried were fresh and flavorful. Service was great and I was surprised it wasn't busier during their lunch hour. Maybe later on or dinner gets more of a crowd. I'm glad we tried out this spot and I'd love to come back!

I also ordered salmon skin and here is where the star deduction came into play. The salmon skin was served to me the way I asked - no rice, no sauce, no vegetables - BUT, it was burnt. So if I do go back, I would probably request them NOT to cook it so long. I ordered my husband a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll to go. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

On a Sunday evening, after checking out the Desert Botanical Garden, I was looking for some food in…read morethe area. I came across Zu Izakaya and it's great reviews as one of the options. I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!

I will mention the place is designed very nicely. For starters the food was bland, except the shishito peppers. The peppers were fantastic and that's the only thing I enjoyed. The ramen was second best compared to the other items. Edamame was good. The sushi roll, seaweed would not break down as I was chewing it and the roll didn't have much flavor to it. Now for the reason for the two stars...the crispy rice. The bites are soooo big I had to cut them in half in order to eat it (good thing) because when I broke the second one in half; I found a black HAIR about the same length of a finger cooked in the rise (I'm blonde by the way). I was shocked and hate complaining. I wasn't going to say anything as I lost my appetite. My friend who was dinning with me, said something politely. The waiter said okay I'll get you another one and ran away with the plate before we got a chance to said we didn't want another one. We saw him show the manager and she okayed him to make another. I was shocked the manager or waiter didn't apologize, wasn't shocked by it, acted normal like nothing was wrong. For this reason I will not be returning.
