We got the miso cod for our entree and the presentation, the flavor, the portion, everything was perfect! The lighting is soft, music isn't blaring, seating is comfortable, overall so cozy. We came here for restaurant week. The menu was great and delicious, perfect amount of food for me to try a bit of everything on the menu. We each did the restaurant week menu and shared. The appetizer was amazing, we each got the crispy rice and I love that each one was a different fish and slightly different flavor. I don't remember which roll we got, I think it was the blue dragon one, but that was delicious, good amount of rice and fish and great flavor. The truffle rib pasta was good as well, the short ribs were cooked perfectly and the flavor on that was insane. I do wish that they would've tossed the pasta in the same sauce the rib came in before adding it to the red pasta sauce. The pasta sauce itself lacked flavor and just tasted like blended down tomatoes. If the pasta had a scoop of the rib sauce too, that would be absolutely insane!! For dessert we didn't have a choice and it was just the miso caramel cheesecake. Now that is some of the best cheesecake I've had in an incredibly long time. I don't taste the miso flavor in the caramel besides the salty sweetness of it but that combo was perfect, especially with the homemade candied pecans. I don't know if the cheesecake was left out or purposefully like that but I love how when the cheesecake was served it wasn't cold! Usually cheesecake is served really cold and kind of like a cream cheese brick you have to cut into it with your fork. But this was barely chilled so the cheesecake was not super cold and it just melts in your mouth. It's so smooth, best dish of the night hands down. This place was very nice and great location. Everything is clean and a great ambience. There's a bar you can sit at when you walk in before you go to the tables. I do think that every side smaller table should automatically have the table lamp for light because it was just too dark to see the menu from my perspective. It looks like great lighting in the pictures because the phone took it in night mode and corrected the lighting but... it's a bit dark and I saw that they do have those modern battery table lamps so I think every table against the wall should have it. Now onto why it's only 4 stars. The service was so beyond incredibly slow. I kid you not we waited 35min at least before our first dish was served and it wasn't even the appetizer, it was the entree rib pasta. You could tell just how short staffed they were and you could hear that there's only 1 sushi chef 1 regular chef and that's it for the kitchen. I don't know who is managing the shift schedule, maybe it's because we came on Memorial Day, but this type of service is not acceptable. I don't take this on the employees at all. They were so incredibly nice and apologetic and doing the best they can and even the front of house was now bussing tables to help out!!! Because they're so busy, I had to keep reminding different waiters for small things like ginger for my sushi 3x, refill on my water, and he almost said we're good to go without paying the check but we didn't even receive our cheesecake dessert yet OR paid the bill. Catfished! Pictures are deceptive. This is tough...I was excited to try this place as a trusted foodie friend said the food was good. That was NOT at all my experience. I will mention the place is designed very nicely. For starters the food was bland, except the shishito peppers. The peppers were fantastic and that's the only thing I enjoyed. The ramen was second best compared to the other items. Edamame was good. The sushi roll, seaweed would not break down as I was chewing it and the roll didn't have much flavor to it. Now for the reason for the two stars...the crispy rice. The bites are soooo big I had to cut them in half in order to eat it (good thing) because when I broke the second one in half; I found a black HAIR about the same length of a finger cooked in the rise (I'm blonde by the way). I was shocked and hate complaining. I wasn't going to say anything as I lost my appetite. My friend who was dinning with me, said something politely. The waiter said okay I'll get you another one and ran away with the plate before we got a chance to said we didn't want another one. We saw him show the manager and she okayed him to make another. I was shocked the manager or waiter didn't apologize, wasn't shocked by it, acted normal like nothing was wrong. For this reason I will not be returning. Had a great early evening experience at Obon. It was the weekend before Thanksgiving and the last full rainy day we had in Phx. After coming from the mall and running through the parking lot in the rain, we cozied up at the bar. It was a pretty intimate experience considering that there weren't many ppl inside. Our bartender gave some great suggestions, as it was my first visit. And we unknowingly came in during happy hour, WIN. I had the watermelon sake and my friend had the thaigers blood. My partner and I happened to come in the day they implemented a menu change for happy hour and their drinks so I don't remember the names since I can't find them online BUT overall the drinks were fairly yummy! The cucumber mint one I expected to be more on the refreshing side than the sweet side but still tasted good, just a little less simple sugar and maybe add a splash of citrus and it'll boost it. The spicy tuna was great! Only thing was the spicy tuna on top felt like a mile to get through because there's a lot on top but the flavor was great. We also got the dynamite shrimp roll and the edamame which were both great and flavor as well! The restaurant is decorated and laid out nicely mid to upper scale style. They have a regular bar and a sushi bar along with table seating with plenty of space. I tried their spin on the old fashioned which featured Japanese whisky with a hint of citrus and a nutty infusion caused by the roasted sesame seeds. The drink was delicious. I also had to try their Wagyu nigiri which was amazing. My wife says "why didn't you Wagyu tail" lol The sushi rolls were great and flavorful. We also tried both the braised beef and chicken bao buns which are served and prepared taco style as opposed to being stuffed in the bao bun. I came by for the first time for a Saturday lunch with a friend - I was a bit hesitant since the menu seemed a bit on the fusion-y side of things but was wanting to keep an open mind and try more restaurants around Scottsdale. We were seated immediately, it was pretty empty and a very beautifully decorated restaurant. My friend and I ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice, miso cod lettuce cups, tonkotsu ramen, and a spicy yellowtail roll. I think the spicy tuna crispy rice was just okay, definitely had better. I felt like the rice was maybe a bit too sticky/gummy and there wasn't too much flavor to the tuna. I liked the sauce with the miso cod lettuce cups and felt the cod was tender but it was a bit dry. I did enjoy the tonkotsu ramen - the broth was flavorful and the pork was tender. The yellowtail roll was also decent and had a slightly sweet sauce / taste to it. I wanted to LOVE this place. They have crispy rice which I love. I got the trio bc why not? It sounded better on paper than it tasted. There was not much flavor for anything. Normally I find foods a bit closer to salty, but it really could have used some additional seasoning. It was okay because of the soy sauce and wasabi. It didn't taste bad at all but in comparison to the crispy rice at other places, this would get 4/10. You could tell this fish was of decent quality, but the flavor development was lacking. The rice didn't even taste like it was seasoned. You get 6 pieces for $26. Probably wouldn't get this again. Braised beef bao. The bun was pretty good. This one had some seasoning, beef was decent. It was a little heavy on the pickled ginger but I was wanting some pickled ginger anyway, so I wasn't disappointed. The beef was tender. 6/10 Shishito peppers. Bingo and I did happy hour at Bisutoro Sushi Bar and Grill in Biltmore Fashion Plaza. The patio space is small but dog friendly. The happy hour menu had some great selections and the happy hour prices were very reasonable. The best were the waiters and chef. They were so nice to prepare this salmon cut roll especially for Bingo, so he could have something to eat too. Bingo enjoyed it. I definitely want to go back and try their Argentine Sizzling Ribeye. I think they were going for an Asian fusion modernized type, but I was not a fan of it. The karaage just tasted like fried chicken with Szechuan peppers. Despite Kung Fu panda taking place in China, it turns out Po is a prodigy of Japanese cuisine as well. Po was brought to Bisutoro on this special evening for one purpose - to fulfill the prophecy of the 7th edition of a Sustainable Bluefin Tuna Dinner. Although the gang initially had their doubts due to a poor position upon entrance to the battle, Master Shi-Fu (or was it Fu-Shi, no was definitely Su-Shi) recognized Po would be the only one with powers magnificent enough to turn the tides. Among a talented crew, Po's skills quickly stood out, but in the face of early adversity, he was shifted down the line. After Tai-Lung (translated as weird slimey oyster) tried to kill the party, the Chosen One knew he had to step up. The legend that he is, Po made a heroic return to the station right in front of us. With his signature Wuxi finger hold, Po quickly assembled beautiful nigiri and sashimi. He continuously provided luxuriously fresh meals to appease the growling bellies of all the customers. And just when we thought the night was over, SKADOOSH! An delicious serving of dessert to end the scene. In all seriousness, the Sustainable Bluefin Tuna dinner at Bisutoro was a spectacular event. Although I have heard only good things about Bisutoro as a restaurant, I came in from out of town for this experience so I have not ordered off their regular menu, I and cannot speak to that. What I can do, is share what a neat occasion this was and recommend it to anyone who gets the chance. We started off with delectable appetizers that were all you can eat. Friendly servers walked around in a happy hour setting allowing people to socialize before starting. Then, the owner of the restaurant talked us through the traditions of breaking down a tuna to be used for sushi, using every last part and offering a few lucky bystanders some samples. The aesthetic was gorgeous and the excitement of the night was palpable across the entire restaurant. Vibes were phenomenal from start to finish and the food was incredible. Each dish was meticulously curated to make the fresh tuna the star of the show. Different parts of the fish were served as different plates allow us to try all that the sustainably caught fish had to offer. Accompaniments ranged from nothing for the sashimi, to perfectly simple rice of nigiri, to much more complex textures and flavors. All of the chefs were amazing. Obviously very skilled at what they do, but also just fun people to be around. Po happened to be the chef who spent a lot of time in front of us so we got to converse with him the most. No other way to put it, that guy is a legend - great chef and chill dude. If you see him as a customer, congratulations. If you see him as an employee, give him a raise. As far as ratings go, my friends and I agree that this movie of a meal is PG (Po's GOATed). No brainer 5 star on the Yelp scale too. read more

Came here with my husband for date night. Super fancy! I liked the esthetics. For starters, we shared the baked crab rolls. Our waitress asked if we wanted imitation or real crab. This threw me off but we opted for the real stuff. It was a few bucks extra. They were tasty however don't think they were "baked" because they were a bit cold and only charred on top. The name is a bit misleading but oh well. I got the Obon ramen- great flavors in the broth. The red chilis were a bit spicy but if you love spice, this is your kinda bowl. Our server was wonderful, and was even able to modify my order to have uni nigiri. It was restaurant week so we had a few of us who ordered the prefixed options, but by far the uni nigiri was the best in my opinion. The large pieces of pork in the tonkotsu were nice and caramelized with a slight char which added a nice texture change. Check it out. Chili Sesame Tuna- Okay, this dish was good but average. Probably my least favorite of the bunch. Bluefin Tuna, Yellowtail, Avocado, Cucumber, came with a Spicy Ponzu Sauce with Scallions and Cilantro. Nothing jumped out at me. Baked Crab Rolls - My fav of the orders, slapped like a fish in a cartoon bar fight Crab Mix, Soy Paper, Seared Spicy Mayo, Chives, Yuzu Salt and a side of Ponzu. Yoooooo. Bluefin Dragon - Another good order, Crab Mix, Shrimp Tempura, Cucumber Eel, Bluefin Tuna, Avocado, a Smokey Chipotle Aioli, Eel Sauce, Scallions and Sesame Seeds. They assembled the avengers for this one Salmon Belly Oshi - This one was solid. No frills, just skills. Clean. Simple. And stupid good. Pressed Salmon Belly, Jalapeño, and Ponzu Truffled Beech Mushrooms. Must order for me. Wagyu Modern Nigiri - Forgot to take a pic because it came out super late. They should invite me back for free (jk, not really) But listen, this was melt in your mouth, light chewing required, simple and disrespectfully good. Wagyu Beef, (was out of Uni), Kazami (pickled wasabi) and Soy. Absolutely delicious. Cheesecake - I don't skip this part anymore, and for all the right reasons. We all know cheesecake is my fav, but this gigantic tower of Cake came smothered in this amazing Miso Caramel, and Candied Pecans. Yum! Came here for dinner recently and the feeling I left with was "there's something missing here". I checked the menu and some news bits ahead of time so I had an idea of what I was getting into. It's SUCH a beautiful restaurant - it gives off relaxed Arizona desert. But something was off. I arrived and waited 5-10 minutes before someone acknowledged my presence. I made eye contact with a bartender and even he did not do that, which as someone who has worked in the service industry, I feel you should in the least greet someone from afar and tell them someone will be with them soon. So once I got sat, the server immediately greeted me funny enough. She did such a great job. The food was just kind of meh, especially for the price point. A couple of us ordered the garlic fried chicken for sharing - it could be a meal in of itself. The flavors are there but not doing themselves service by selling dry chicken sans a sauce... even some ranch (they don't have ranch... just soy sauce). The bao sandwiches were tasty - all 4 should be served together on a platter! The katsu was better than the bird. Came on a Sunday afternoon during happy hour and was pleasantly surprised at the quality. They fly the fish in from Japan and you can tell. The staff were super kind, although we only saw 2-3 people who ended up being so busy taking care of multiple tables. The bar is a nice option for a different vibe. There are booth seating and tables. The wallpaper in the bathroom is even cute. The toro special was absolutely amazing and melt your mouth (definitely worth the price). The happy hour maki rolls are definitely worth it and you can taste the quality of the fish when it's just rice and nori wrapped. My manager and I checked out this place for lunch on a Friday and we were basically the only people in the entire joint other than the few employees we saw. Since we were the only people in the restaurant, the service was quick and our server was always available. Lots of sushi roll options, ramen, bao buns, etc. The sushi rolls sounded super boujee and I almost couldn't pick anything because they all had ingredients I wasn't familiar with. I ended up ordering the snow flake roll and the pork katsu bao bun. The snow flake roll sounded on the tamer side and didn't have any spicy sounding ingredients. My manager ordered one of the ramen bowls. Fortunately, my hunch about the snow flake roll was correct. It wasn't spicy at all and I quite enjoyed it. Each piece was thick, yet each component was balanced nicely. It was super filling too, which was a good thing because after one bite of the pork bao bun, I couldn't eat anymore because it was almost impossible to chew, let alone bite into. The outside coating was not it and the inside tasted and felt like rubbery fat. It was rubbery and stringy all at the same time. I appreciated how massive the thing was, but I honestly don't know how one attempts to eat a bao bun that's overflowing with a thick cut of meat. Do you fork and knife it? Do you eat it like a taco? I don't know but if you were to eat it like a taco, you'd need a pretty big mouth. The bao bun was a disappointment, but at least I enjoyed the sushi and it filled me up. If I could give this place a 1000 out of 10 I would. The atmosphere was great for date night. The young man at the front of house was SUPER friendly and sweet, he got us seated, gave us options of where we preferred to sit (we chose the sushi bar) The sushi chef was very knowledgeable, very personable, and we ended up going with all his suggestions and they were AMAZING! I don't remember his name but he was joking with us and sharing his expertise and watching him work was pleasant because you could tell how much he really enjoyed the work he was putting into creating the food! I added a video of him. We ordered the crab fried rice, that was a HUGE portion, highly recommend sharing with whoever you go with. Chef recommended the genesis sushi roll from the anniversary menu so we got that and a spicy citrus salmon roll from the regular menu. We also enjoyed the Obon Ramen with the pork on the side. Every plate was clean when we left except the fried rice, it was a large amount so we took the leftovers home! The rice was VERY HIGH QUALITY the rolls did not fall apart at all even when I dropped one from my chopsticks. The staff was soooooooo great I cannot recommend this place enough. I felt like I was welcomed and everyone working there seemed to really love their jobs from the host to the people in the back working in the kitchen (which we had a view of them up close and personal the entire time.) I want to also give a shoutout to the young lady in the kitchen working on the fried foods, she was very cool calm and collected and focused. The sushi here is always phenomenal. My only complaint is that they always seem to be out of many different types of fish. Service is always nice, mainly because there aren't many people in the restaurant. Really nice and cute decor. read more

An eatery trying to be posh, nothing wrong with that, but you need to back it up w some serious Asian culinary skill. Miso soup- TBS of salt, couldn't finish, Ramen:empty flavor, Stone fried rice - they were trying to mimic Bi Bim Bop and received a D-. Maybe a real stone bowl would be more honest and their "gochujaang" was far from the real deal. Our waiter was pretty disorganized, not real busy yet he was running around, forgetting our order. Skip this place/ go to hood for authentic Ramen Asian cuisine. You'll far way better. read more

Upscale version of Obon, I must say the decor was absolutely beautiful. They have happy hour everyday from 2-6 pm so decided to take advantage of that. Took my BF here on a Sunday for Father's Day around 2 pm. I thought this place was going to be packed so I chose an off time. Place wasn't busy at all. I'm not sure if it's normal to pay $20-$25 a plate for specialty rolls these days but that is outrageously expensive. I wouldn't be back here even though the food was delicious. We ordered the spicy garlic noodle which cost $30 and it DOES NOT come with protein. Not worth it at all!! It had so much vinegar that it tasted very odd and very very oily for my taste. Ordered some stuff off the HH menu and basically they just give you a smaller portion for HH price. Gyoza, poke, and the salmon roll (maki roll) was all so good but probably wouldn't be back anytime soon. Not to mention they charged me for a roll that I never ordered. read more

I was staying in the area decided to come for late lunch. They have a happy hour from 2-6 every day. This place is small and intimate but beautiful. We sat outside and ate. I tried the california roll, garlic fried chicken was so fresh and amazing. the garlic spicy noodles were okay. To drink i tried the pineapple express it was really good. the customer service was great as well. read more
