This place gets really busy once school let's out! I mean for $4 onigiri, on a student budget, that's a great cheap eat for an after school snack before dinner! I got the 5 HR set just so I can try out all my favorites 1. Negitoro - so good, not fishy at all, rice was nicely seasoned. 2. Blue crab - slightly too much mayo but otherwise pretty good, sweet and fresh 3. Yellowtail - there are some scallions in here as they should. Nothing to complain about, but the fish wasn't exactly top tier, just good. 4. Salmon - very slightly fishy likely not cured enough or at all? 5. Spicy salmon - the chili they use is quite strong in flavor so you couldn't taste the fish. Yama sushi still makes my all time favorite spicy tuna. I also got the yuzu miso salmon onigiri. Had the filling not been so salty, I would've complained that there was far too much rice. With that said, it was a delicious and balanced onigiri, but I personally would prefer more fish to rice ratio of course. You can taste that they use very good sea salt or at least it definitely wasn't basic table salt. The rice ball was very lightly packed, so it did start to fall apart as I ate. And I accidentally bite and ate a piece of the paper or was served on lol. Edamame tasted very plain with a lot of salt sprinkled on the top only. If you are sodium conscious, I guess this would be good as you can ask them to leave the salt off. However, I wish they boiled it in salted water so at least the flavor is penetrated into the pod. Pineapple yuzu lemonade - this was fine, not as refreshing as I was hoping it would be, but that's my own fault for setting expectations. It was slightly too sweet so we did water it down half way. All the men working there were amazing and would go above and beyond when serving and delivering your food. There was one older lady there I would consider to be more "lazy?" She would only go to the counter and call out the names. Even if you were seated against the wall where it was difficult to get out, she would not budge to deliver to your order too the table. The other two men on the other hand would deliver your order and hand you your meals directly if they noticed you in that situation. Also, maybe I'm just extra irked because she didn't give me utensils and I had always gotten back to my seat against the wall having to inconvenience several ppl having to get up out of their seats for me. The only other con here is the nori on the HR. I wished they would've roasted the seaweed so it's at least somewhat crispy when you bite into it. That would've knocked them out of the park!!! Definitely more than a hint of talc... the quality of the rice was less than mid [considering the establishment's name contains RICE in it] I will assume the pickles are made in house. They were actually pretty good. Looked like there were 6 staff members working in a small space. I would suggest cutting down by one employee and spring for better rice... Koshihikari, Hino Hikari or Yukihikari. Maybe even Tamanishiki -- but please wash your rice better. read more

La Cañada Flintridge has many staple food options and I'm so glad to come across Rice & Nori! Perfect to go food for an Angeles Crest Highway cruise. I absolutely love onigiri and opted for the classic tuna mayo spicy ($4), california ($3.95) and the spicy lobster shrimp ($5.50). Nori was very fresh and the furikake had great flavor to compliment the rice! All fillings were perfectly satisfying and fresh. Great price point and quick service. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, helped me review the menu and offered their favorite options. Small cute clean shop that I will definitely be visiting several more times. If you're a fan of rice, this is the place. The onigiri is freshly made and delicious. They also have sashimi, various pickles, hand rolls, and more. All good. I've been to Rice & Nori sooo many times and honestly I've had way more good experiences than bad. On a good day their hand rolls are solid, especially for the price... like you really can't complain. They've definitely had some off days though. A couple times I had to throw a few hand rolls away because they tasted completely off (yellowtail, eel, toro). But like I said, I've had more good experiences than bad, so I'm staying positive. read more

Solid place for onigiri and handrolls in the area. We came here as a pit stop for lunch after a short hike. Service was friendly and there's seating both indoors and outdoors. Restroom was clean too. As for food, I ordered the 3 piece handroll set, which was the right amount of food for me personally. Fish was fresh although sashimi slices are on the smaller end. I think I would recommend this over the onigiri in terms of rice to fish ratio portion. My boyfriend likes the onigiri but in general our group felt like it was a lot of rice and a huge portion, so ordering around 2 is probably the sweet filling spot for most people. read more

First time here! I got 2 hand rolls and it was $12. The fish was fresh and the salmon was my favorite. If you want to be full- get the onigiri. I did what I always do and preordered and sometimes I have to wait a few mins, no big deal. Today, no one would even speak or look at me when I went to the pickup counter, I waited 5 mins before I had to ask someone, and he said my order wasnt ready. Stood there a further 20 mins and again approached the counter and the 2-3 girls working there would just look away, until I had to say loudly hey is my order ready, and the bag was just sitting there, I'm not sure for how long. I only started wondering because many people were getting their orders and I was still stood there. Your staff need an attitude adjustment.
