Tried Sushi On in Indio tonight with some friends and was pleasantly surprised! It's tucked away in a strip mall near the neighborhood Walmart, definitely a hidden gem kind of spot. The restaurant has a classic Japanese sushi bar vibe: nothing fancy, but cozy and casual. Service was friendly and attentive enough. We started with the garlic edamame, which was packed with flavor and a great way to kick off the meal. The standout for me was the protein roll! No rice, wrapped in soy paper, light but super satisfying. Between all of us, we ended up ordering five different rolls, and honestly, every single one hit the mark. Fresh fish, good balance of flavors, and nicely presented. If you're looking for a solid, low key sushi spot in the area, Sushi On is definitely worth a visit!

*Sushi (Game) ON* I've now been here more than any other restaurant in the Coachella Valley, and it's always delicious and consistent. Japanese food & sushi is my favorite cuisine...and 99% of the time, everything I've ordered and eaten here was/is perfecto & Fantastico. The service is always friendly and outstanding and a special shoutout to Daniel San. When I'm not seated at a sushi bar, I prefer a booth when dining out, and Sushi ON has lots of booths to choose from. But Mom & I have our favorite one that we usually sit at. My most recent visit was for Mother's Day lunch with my Mom. She's the one who actually brought me here for the first time 7 years ago...and it's still my & our favorite Japanese restaurant within the desert cities. All Mom wanted for her Mother's Day lunch was their Sashimi Salad, so whatever Mom wants Mom gets. Not only did she enjoy her meal (again) 4 separate team members made a point to wish her "Happy Mother's Day." One of the owners too...and she also went out of her way to insure Mom was a happy diner and received exactly what she wanted. I've brought one of childhood friend's here, that I grew up with in LA. He still lives there but comes out here often to play golf. He enjoyed Sushi ON so much, we've been back a few times together, and his wife and kids also love their food. As does my wife too. A good Sushi Bar & Japanese restaurant is like having a great cleaners, barber/hairstylist and dentist too -- we all think our own is the best. But I'm here to process & confess that Sushi ON's got it goin on...they cover all the bases...I always leave here more then satisfied...and feel like taking a celebratory trot around the bases. {{{Big~High~Five}}} Walk-off Grandslam {{{Standing Ovation}}} Arigato from Scotto San Sayonara

Usually they should bring the appetizers, rolls and then entree... they brought them out in whatever order. One appetizer arrived followed by an entree, 2 rolls and then the soup and salad that was included with the entree. The edamame arrived almost to the end of the meal and I honestly should have sent it back bc who eats that at the end of a meal? Nothing against the chefs but it shows inexperienced wait staff. The food though was amazing! The rolls are HUGE! We ordered way too much so we took almost 2 rolls home! The tuna tower was amazing but I wish it came with some wonton strips or something to add crunch/texture. They use a green and red crispy crunch on their rolls which was sooo good! Overall the amazing food makes up for the average service.

Been coming here for years never had much to say until it started getting a bit bad. Today I ordered a king caterpillar and my friend got the amazing roll with real crab meat. The sushi rice in both of our rolls were very hard to bit didn't have that sticky ness sushi rice should have and crumbled to the touch. Definitely was yesterday unfinished rice and it's super noticeable. Nice selection of drinks and rolls along with sushi options. Service can be a hit or miss although they have more servers

Would rather hold out for better sushi options than settle for someplace that's just average. For context solid sushi spots in the desert are hard to come by, understandably. La Quinta actually has two of my favorites BUT they are only open for dinner hours. So I've been on the search for solid sushi spots that have lunch hours. Being that Sam's Sushi was open for lunch and has moderate reviews, thought that they were worth a try. The ambiance of the spot is basic. There was a proper sushi bar which I could appreciate and the restaurant was spacious. My biggest issues were cleanliness and freshness. The tables weren't clean enough for my preference (soy sauce containers were sticky and the plate they sit on hadn't been cleaned for a while). Also I found the temperature inside to be a little too warm, which is always a red flag to me when dealing with seafood. The reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2 stars is the staff were friendly. Despite being busy they had me seated quickly and also food was at a good pace. One of my drinks was forgotten by the server but he was kind and apologized about it, so not a big deal. As again, they were busy. Overall the reason for the lower review is primarily for the food and quality. I ordered a $25 bento box (not quite trusting or committing to larger sushi rolls) and was still underwhelmed. The best part of my meal was the miso soup and California roll. The California roll was average but tasty. However, the other two box options were meh. The mixed tempura had hits and misses. Tempura shrimp was decent. However, the veggies were too thick - so the batter to veggie ratio was off. Still edible though. The bummer with the bento box was the sushi and salad. Salad had barely any dressing, and not the tasty ginger or sesame dressing that most have - the dressing was so minimal I couldn't even tell you what it was. Also the sushi just didn't taste fresh. The ebi was fine but usually I wouldn't choose this for sushi. The salmon was edible but not super fresh and the yellowtail was stringy and I couldn't eat it. For $25 the plate looked appealing but lacked good flavor/execution. Overall, the place was busy so I'm hopeful they have a good following with locals and I saw a lot of professionals here for a quick lunch break. I just think there are substantially better sushi spots in the desert...I'm spoiled and have lots of good sushi spots at home that this spot wouldn't be one I'd be eager to come to again soon.
