This place is a small whole in the wall, with only booths and two stand alone tables, I suggest calling ahead of time to plan for a big party. The service was a little different , not greeted or acknowledged until we sat down. The lady just gets straight to business asking what we want, & service was the same throughout the visit. The food is quite good, but there is a BUT.... The waitress comes dragging her shoes across the floor to greet us which actually was quite funny! After we finished dining, the Waitress approached us with the Bill in hand and I had not even finished my Ginger! Anyhow, to make a long story short....I asked her to please wipe the table,since eating Sushi can be quite messy at times.....then she took my soiled paper Napkin and wiped our table to no satisfaction of course! But it was so uncomfortable to order. Such a weird experience. We got several rolls to share and they looked gorgeous and delicious!! But 2 or the 4 were fishy, which is not what you want when you order fish. The spicy tuna was really mushy and the chicken teriyaki that we ordered definitely wasn't a teriyaki sauce. Bizarre. Tonight we arrived on a Monday afternoon around 7pm and we were the only ones in there so the whole staff worked very hard to make us feel comfortable and no more than 5 minutes after we ordered, the sushi started arriving. The sushi was made by craft sushi makers and you can tell and taste it was done with love. My two 27 month old boys made a huge mess, they were throwing their edamame and chopsticks, we cleaned up the majority of it but I know we were an extra kinda table. If it's good, we'll order some rolls but if it's not good, we'll leave. Well, long story short, we left. The calamari was not fresh, very rubbery, heavily (HEAVILY) breaded (not tempura style) and cooked to a hard crisp. They were huge, the size of Bermuda onion rings , and absolutely without flavor. My wife and I ate here as a date night. The ambiance was okay, they kept the place with the ac off as it was pretty warm in there. I have a sushi roll and teriyaki chicken. My wife had yakisoba noodles. The roll and chicken were pretty good. The yaki could have been better. It tasted like chowmein and not a true yakisoba. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING! The only thing worse than the food was the service! Party of 6 for my daughter's 11th birthday. Place was grimy and hot inside. Tables not wiped clean and chips in the plates and ramekins we were given. Staff stared at us with vacant expressions the whole time. Sushi was probably the worst we have ever had and menu we were given did not really seem to match the one on their website. Lukewarm sushi rolls that were supposed to be cold and hot food that seemed to be microwaved as it had a rubbery texture. Everything was over salted and soup even seemed like it was just reheated. I let the young girl know it was my daughter's birthday and she nodded and walked away- nothing more said. I have never been to a sushi restaurant that didn't give at least a little fanfare and fun for someone's birthday - didn't want a free dessert, just a little fun shout out- but absolutely nothing- not even a smile from any of the 5 employees gathered behind the counter. Biggest pet peeve? Paying for sauce. Luckily for Sawa, $1 sauce is the only downside to their business model. My family and I hosted a board game night for Mother's Day and takeout from Sawa Sushi was the perfect addition to the evening. We started the night with a number of sharable items, including tempura veggies, gyoza, and edamame. The tempura came out piping hot, yet perfectly crispy. As for sushi, we ordered a little bit of everything: California Rolls, Rainbow Rolls, Baked Salmon, Albacore, etc. My personal favorite was the Baked Salmon paired with their sweet ponzu sauce!
