So I recently moved to PD and truly enjoy this Sushi Bar. It is clean and the food is really fresh. Really nice assortment of fish too! So why am I giving it a 4 star rating? Well the Nigiri prices are just to high. I frequent a lot of sushi bars and they are in line with the very high end establishments where you expect to pay these amounts. This restaurant is just not one of those types of high end places. I do believe if they came down a bit on these prices they would be packed all of the time. Came here for the all-you-can-eat menu available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. When we got here, it was completely empty and yet it took them 10 minutes to seat us. We were given menus and after browsing for 10 minutes, we were asked for our drinks. We just asked for waters. After another 5 minutes, we received our waters and were asked for our order. We said we wanted the all-you-can-eat meal. It wasn't until then that we were told that was a different menu. Took another 5 minutes to get us said menu. The menu is a severely dressed down version of the entire menu, but that's fine. We filled out the sheet. After 20 minutes of just twiddling our thumbs and sipping on water, we decided to leave. It wasn't until we were walking out that the server noticed us and asked us if we were done filling out the sheet. We politely said that our lunch time was over and we would just leave. She apologized for the wait, which was nice. Another person waiting to be seated noticed us and asked us if we ever got to order and we told him no. He said "That's what I'm afraid of". Don't know how long he was waiting to be seated or if he decided to stay. This review is completely based on the service since we did not have the opportunity to place an order or taste any of the food. Popped in for a to go order. The place was empty but I still stood there waiting for a while before I was even acknowledged. I ordered salmon sashimi and green tea ice cream. The salmon wasn't the freshest but once covered in soy sauce it was fine. I was shocked to find they didn't provide any wasabi, I've never had a to-go sushi order not have wasabi. Dragon sushi is a very reliable choice. They have quality fish and well crafted rolls. We went for their AYCE (all you can eat) special (only available at specific times/days). While the price was moderately high (~$50 before tax) and amount of rice was large, the fish was superb. Having higher prices and more rice isn't unexpected given the fish quality and that they are normally an a la carte establishment. FOOD: great quality fish. We had several varieties of sushi, hand rolls, speciality rolls. I highly recommend the sushi and hand rolls which while simple, didn't disappoint. Note that the amount of rice is large but this is likely because we had the AYCE. SERVICE: service was as expected AMBIANCE: overall good. But perhaps the biggest problem was the smell. At times and in specific areas there was an almost bathroom/sewer like smell that was very unenjoyable. It didn't overtake our experience but came close. PRICE: AYCE was expensive but worth it. Stopped by Dragon Sushi for lunch with my husband and brother-in-law and had a great experience! We were greeted and seated right away. The standout for us was the Gorilla Brain -- an avocado stuffed with spicy tuna and crab, deep-fried to perfection, then topped with eel sauce, spicy mayo, Masago, and green onions. So good! I ordered the BSCR roll but asked for the scallops not to be baked, and it still hit the spot. My husband had the spicy Korean chicken, which he enjoyed, though he mentioned he would've preferred it served on the rice rather than with rice on the side. My brother-in-law went for the lunch special with chicken and beef teriyaki, lots of food and great value. The space is huge, service was fast, and the food overall was solid. The rolls are so large - you have to cut them just to eat which ruins the experience. We were so excited to grab takeout. We got home and they gave us teriyaki spice versus soy sauce - are you kidding me! They ruined our whole dinner . Second time this happened. We were feeling like sushi and found dragon sushi online. we came in on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated immediately in a nice roomie booth by a friendly hostess. We were brought water and menus to look over. Our server , Juan quickly came over and introduced himself and asked if we had questions. He was friendly and had a couple of good suggestions for our meal. We each ordered lunch specials. There was a variety of options. We thought this way we could share and try lots of things. Juan brought our miso soup first, it was good. At a leisurely pace, he brought the rest of our lunch. We got some extra plates to share. Everything was good. We had the teriyaki chicken and teriyaki salmon. We had the California rolls. We had the tempura vegetables and shrimp and the Gyozas. We also had rice and a salad . The salad had a nice ginger dressing. There was lots of dipping sauces for all our courses and Juan came by with refills. We never reached the bottom of our drink.! it was a very good lunch. I stopped in and tried there all you can eat sushi which they offer on Tuesday and Wednesdays only for $49. It's a very nice restaurant with several huge screens with sporting events going on. My first order was enough for me. I probably ordered $80 worth of food with their regular prices. The meat portions on each of the individual sushi were huge. They weren't as tasty as other places I've been to the service was good. Had a fine waiter. I don't know whether I would do the all you could eat sushi again, but I would like to stop by and try some of the things on the menu that was not part of the all you can eat deal. Most of the places I've been to that had all you can eat. It was pretty much everything on the menu this was not the case, but it had a wide variety of foods. This is the second sushi restaurant I've been to here in Palm Desert. It was take-out. I ordered 3 cut rolls. Salmon skin, eel and spicy tuna. One word describes the food......GARBAGE. We threw half of my $38 in the trash. Fatty tough eel, chewy not crispy salmon skin and bland spicy tuna. The rolls were loose and fell apart. You don't eat cut rolls with a fork! The eel roll was void of eel sauce for the first time ever. To be honest if I was the owner of Dragon Sushi and read this review, I'd fire everyone behind the sushi bar. Was on vacation and went to Dragon sushi with my daughter for dinner. The sushi was very good. fish was high quality and the sushi chefs did a very nice job preparing the sushi. Why not five stars. First of all, it's not much variety when it comes to fish. Which I am a big fan of as far as not getting the freshest fish they had Atlantic salmon, which is always delicious everywhere if it's fresh, the Maguro was also high-quality. They had all the other standards like octopus, Hamachi, albacore, tuna, and Ebi! They also had some delicious salads, especially the tofu salad. Now, why only three stars? First of all is sushi rice was very bland almost like they never seasoned it. The tuna was so bright red it did not look natural and must've been treated with the heaviest amount of carbon dioxide possible. Unfortunately, when they served the albacore, they put a little sweet sauce on top. I could do without the sweet sauce and would've not asked for it had I known it would've been included. Well, the sushi chefs were amazing even though they were not of Japanese descent, the service was only so so. Our waitress was very nice, but only had four tables on a Wednesday night and seemed to be disappearing somewhere. I am going to give her a break though because I think they had her doing all kinds of prep work behind the scenes since it was slow. I think her boss was on her about other task instead of allowing her to just take care of the guests that she had ! Just a note that I had all you can eat and my daughter who is not a big eater was just going to order off the menu. We were told that we had to both have the all you can eat, which was still a good value at $49, but I did not see what the issue was with my daughter eating what she wants off the menu. I was on vacation so I did not press it. Lastly, like all sushi places the sushi chefs had never caught fish in their lives. It just seems weird to me to work with Fish all your life, and not have ever caught any. As a commercial fisherman for years and a person who makes their own sushi all the time, by catching and processing your own fish that you catch you are much more connected with how Fish work, what they're eating, and how to cut them, depending on the firmness of their meat, which can be affected by water temperature, what they are eating, and many other factors. Just funny that these guys who work with Fish really know nothing about them and how they're caught or processed. It's not like the old days when a sushi chef went to Japan and trained for five years. Those guys were required to go to the tuna markets and down on the boat to talk to the fisherman and understand more about the product that they are selling. Overall, it was a good place to eat, and the sushi was very good. If you were a trendy sushi person and like to eat rolls with all kinds of different sauces on them, which you will never find in Japan, this place looked like it had plenty of those rolls. I prefer sashimi or nigiri where I can actually taste the fish and feel the texture in my mouth. As I said the sushi was good and if you like fancy rolls, I'm sure it will be a great spot for you. Everybody is friendly and you won't be disappointed if you are looking for Uni or Escobar, which is usually called butterfish at sushi, restaurants. It is actually a type of mackerel. Sometimes sushi places will call this Shiro Maguro, translates to white tuna, and technically should only be used for albacore tuna. Unfortunately, many people also use it for Escobar and other types of fish that has white meat. They also offered red snapper, which I would not suggest eating raw unless you know it has been frozen at a low temperature for 48 hours. Unless you take ivermectin every month. So dragon, sushi is very good. I am a tough reviewer and happen to have caught tunas all over the world and am a foodie who makes sushi and poke all the time. Have been coming to dragon sushi for a while now and the service has definitely gone downhill. From the start asked for a high chair to our server delaney waited more than 5 minutes decided to get up the other server noticed and asked if we needed something I once again asked for a high chair appetizers came but no plates or napkins were brought. Server didn't check in on us at all we needed refills and had to get up once again another server saw us and got the refills. Dragon Sushi is next to Dragon Cafe, only separated by a spacious outdoor patio with plenty of seating for both establishments. The decor and color palate throughout the restaurant is quite appealing, warm and welcoming. The restaurant has a feng shui flow about it. The booths, big enough for six, are quite private with high walls between them. We were quickly seated by the hostess and Angelica, our server, was quick to arrive full of smiles and asked to start a drink order. Plum wine and raspberry lemon drop were at the top of our list. The plum wine offered a refreshingly sweet, almost juice-like, experience. I had a second glass without hesitation and definitely enjoying the affects. The raspberry lemon drop provided a chilled, sweet and sour martini. For dinner we were served the chicken teriyaki bowl that came with miso soup and side salad with just the right amount of dressing that didn't drown the lettuce and shredded carrots. Perfect! Our other dish was the Passion Roll that brought the tastebuds to a tap dance over a menagerie of mango, tuna, cream cheese, crab meat, shrimp tempura, Serrano pepper and rice with a sauce that topped it off. Dessert anyone? Offered, thanks Angelica, but not at this table. Dinner offered plenty to fill us. The whole ride home I kept saying, "I ate too much." I'm so happy to report that the table was cleared as we finished our meal. Angelica was on it as quickly as she could be given she had other tables and was back and forth to the bar making cocktails for her tables. Waitress and hostess were great and did their jobs well. The manager, Jonathan, did not. We had someone with a seafood hypersensitivity who was served ramen made with fish oil, and once we brought it to his attention, he showed zero concern and had a nasty attitude about it. He did nothing to fix the situation and treated a serious health issue like an inconvenience. That is unacceptable and dangerous. Stopped in for lunch. The sushi was good. Had yellowtail collar and it was great. The fish was ok too. Nothing special, but still good. I'd shy away from the rolls, as our spider roll was rather small and didn't have much flavor. Our server didn't really care much. Never introduced himself, no recommendations, no check to see if our table needed anything. Basically just did business. We waived over some help when we had waited a bit for the check. The busboy was great though. Had a coupon for a free edamame. When I told the server he asked what kind, we chose the garlic spicy. It was really good. Yet, when the bill came we were told the spicy was not included in the coupon. The server didn't much care. Although, he said he could give us an order of regular edamame to go. Uh, no thanks. That left a bad taste in my mouth. This is one of those times when service really made the difference. Good booths, fairly quiet, good food, and a server that really didn't care. Worst customer service experience!!! I've wanted to come here for a long time for AYCE as I eat sushi elsewhere all the time. I have a bad reaction to mayonnaise, so I looked ahead at the menu to ensure I picked choices that accommodated me without asking for many changes. I ordered 3 rolls (rainbow, sexy lady, and spicy tuna), and nigiri. Clarifying they didn't have mayo with the server. Low and behold, the rainbow roll had a TON of mayo mixed in the crab in the center. The menu and the picture online states/shows no mayo whatsoever. 2 servers refused to swap it and said I had to pay extra for it. The manager then comes over and stands there and stares at me, arms crossed, very intimidating. Accuses me of being wrong and it was like pulling teeth to ensure he didn't charge me extra. He was so condescending and I really tried to be respectful, having been a server myself for years. I WAS SO UNCOMFORTABLE. He made it out like it was all my fault. I was fine paying for AYCE even with how horrible I felt just being there, I just wanted to leave. THAT MANAGER IS HORRIBLE! The service was so slow.
