Horrible horrible horrible service. Never have I ever had such a horrible experience with a manager. My mom and I were excited to come eat here. She talked about how good the sushi was and we went out of our way to drive all the way there. However when we ordered the shrimp tempura my mom noticed something smelled odd. I also noticed the tempura was awful. We notified the manager (His name is Jim or Jin I'm unsure) and rather than kindly notifying us he could not take the tempura off the bill or calmly talking to us he raises his voice and does not listen to a word we had to say. My mom tried to tell him how she spit the tempura out because of how bad it tasted and he proceeds to say "We gave our other customers the tempura and I don't smell anything wrong with it". Most illogical statment I have ever heard a manager say. First of all. We are customers as well but he did not treat us as such. He did not even bother to listen to what we had to say or wanted. The lack of respect he had towards us was appalling. We were extremely disappointed and upset with the tempura and simply wanted it off our bill. I do NOT care if his other customers were pleased, because we were not. Yet, he ignored his customers, my mom and I, for what reason? Also, he had no right to raise his voice to my mom, who was clearly upset at the quality of food given to us. He did not even tell us his name, we had to ask another employee. I was planning on coming back with my friends but the manager was just so rude. The food was overpriced as well and the atmosphere was awful. Ruined my entire mood. read more

Fresh sushi. Great service. And prices very reasonable. This place has been around for years and there was a line out the door at 530pm when they opened. Shows how much of a following they still have after a decade. It's not a place with the 'americanized' type rolls with tons of sauces and cream cheese, so if that is what you are looking for this isn't the place. If anyone had the privilege to not care about losing customers, it would be Sukiyabashi Jiro. Yet, I had far more hospitable service, and certainly better sushi when I dined there than I did Saturday night at Sushi Sake. We had a group of six people, and arrived promptly for our 6:30 reservation. We still ended up waiting until 7pm before we were seated. We then proceeded to order sushi, but separated out our sushi orders into three separate sheets. The waitress, named Li, took our order around 7:05. By 7:50, we still hadn't received any food, save for myself. I had ordered an additional eel rice, which came with miso soup and salad. The rest of my companions (and my wife) were extremely hungry by this point. So I asked our waitress what was taking so long and told her that we had been waiting a long time. She instinctively scowls and defensively responds, "I'm also waiting with nothing to do! It's not my fault, the order just goes in, and the chefs make it. I also sitting here waiting like you!" Bear in mind that I hadn't blamed her for anything. I simply was asking what was taking so long. I then ask her to bring me the eel rice we had also ordered but had told to hold until after we had eaten the sushi. She says, "but you told me to wait until after the sushi came out" I tell her yes, but that was before we realized the restaurant was going to take 50 minutes to not make any sushi. She kept repeating that I was the one that told her to bring the rice bowl after the sushi. If she had only applied some common sense that we were so hungry at this point that we would rather get something to eat than wait on the proper order of service. Her manager then comes out and instead of apologizing or asking what the situation was, proceeds to chastise us for ordering on three separate order sheets. His excuse for the slowness of service was because we had ordered on separate sheets. If we had ordered on a single sheet, it would be done by now. This makes no sense. If anything, the separate sheets made it easier to know which items to put on which plates, as that was how it was eventually presented anyway. Additionally, If ordering on three separate papers was going to be a problem, they should have said something when we were ordering. To add insult to injury, after our waitress and the manager leave us, I can plainly her hear insulting us to her fellow waitress in Chinese that we were "crazy." Luckily my wife didn't hear this, otherwise it would be over. She never returned back to our table, and instead we were served by another waitress. And not a single staff member checked on us from when our food was served until the check came. And on top of that the food was bad too. By the time the sushi came, several pieces were obviously dried up because they had taken so long. The ika had dried up along with the ama ebi. The spider roll that we ordered fell apart when I picked it up. And the eel rice we had ordered had only a small piece of eel, already halved, instead of being properly presented as a whole filet. Needless to say, I will not be going back to this wreck of a restaurant. Not even because the food was subpar at best. Rather, I would never set foot in a restaurant where the staff goes out of its way to insult and argue with the clientele. read more

After being a loyal patron of the sushi chef all these many years we were dismayed to be so rudely talked to by the owner when we asked her for gluten free soy sauce which her much nicer employees had showed us they had by the quarts. This place is a joke. I visited this place on 4/8/16 at 6:30pm, I've been to sushi restaurants all over the world and this place would have been easily forgotten for their run of the mill, less than average food but the service was so bad it was worth a mention! First, do not look at their site on google because they don't even have the correct website attached. Second, look over your food and your bill closely cause they will try to swap out your seafood for cheaper and less tasty alternatives, and then charge you more than what you originally ordered!! So please know what your ordering, cause for the less sushi savy they could really make a killing off you!!! And lastly, IF you accidentally mark the wrong thing on the sushi list but catch the mistake when the food is served( even if you don't eat it!!!) they will NOT server you what you intended to order with out charging you for both!! What ever happened to an honest mistake or customer service??!! So much food went to waste here since we didn't eat the cheap replacements they tried to serve us or the sushi we ordered by mistake, this place is ridiculous. Plus, the management does not care!! I spoke with them and they are obviously in on their little ole switcharoo trick they play here, but I'm on to you sushi sake! Please take my advice and avoid this place at all cost!! Cause the cost alone is rediculous and they must be smoking something to ask people to pay those prices for cheap fish! The food here was average. The buttered scallops were terrible - poor quality and overcooked. The other dishes we ordered were ok. The sashimi was average compared to other places in the Dallas area. Well, I've seen it happening to other people, but I never thought it'll happen to me. I almost got no service here the other night. Waitress wouldn't come to my table from the beginning, cook made a wrong plate and everything was slow. Talked to the manager and he didn't even say sorry. I've been here numerous times and sat only at the bar. It was my first time seating in a booth(right side when you get in) and it was just terrible. After hearing (and reading) rave reviews, I was excited to try Sushi Sake earlier this week. All I can say is that I must've hit it on an off night -- VERY off. Service was fine, but the wait person didn't know the nuances of sushi. The sushi was just not all that good. I was THRILLED that they had Toro, but it was a bit chewy (not why I pay the premium price for Toro!) and lacked addictive flavor I expect. Even the basic California Roll was no better than grocery store sushi. All for a bit more than usual. I will always pay more for great sushi, but this wasn't it. I've been here twice, and it is simply OK. It is pricey for the quality, and service was very aloof. The waitress only appeared to bring the plates, and to bring us the check. She was also very quick to look at the check to see how much tip was given. Sushi is not great, although ingredients were fresh enough, just like someone you can get at Kroger. Fried squid had a nice flavor, but the dipping sauce was more latin american, almost like a salsa. Udon had a very mild flavor. Such audacity to tell an infant in the waiting area to " shh shut up this is a restaurant " when the kid is not even doing anything but play with his father. Do you think we are in a library. The food is great no doubt about it but to say those words in front of the father. I respect all seniors but no body in right mind would ever say such a thing to a kid who is just a year and half. And to make it worse after asking for explanation and apologies, he raises his voice and says it's a restaurant policy., and if you don't like our service than you can leave and never come back. I had my worst dinning experience ever at sushi sake, the service i had was horrible! I went in with my bestfriend on a monday night, after sitting down in a corner when there are plenty other tables left. We waited for 2 or 3 minutes until a waitress showed up, just when I was about to order a tea, she turns around to talk to another waitress and left us. Turns out we are not her table, so the other waitress takes our order, I ordered the terriyaki steak dinner medium rare, but it was very well done. I hate hard rubberish meat, so I ask her to please return this to the kitchen, if she cant do that, i'll order something else. She tells me to hold on while she go ask someone, finally she comes back with a manager and they look at my plate and ask me what's wrong with it, I say i ordered medium rare and this is beyond medium well. The manager tells her go ahead and take this back to the kitchen and cook me another one, the waitress without saying anything, abruptly take my plate and walked away. So okay, at this point, I lost all my appetite. Later she comes back with my meal, puts it infront of me and walked away without asking me anything again. At least this time it was cooked properly. Because it was a monday night, and the restaurant wasnt busy, i overheard the waitress talking to others about what a pain I am, and how she hates customers who complains, this was all in chinese, little does she know I studied chinese for three years. I was about to blow up at this point and was so going to stand up and tell her you think i cant hear you and dont understand? I like Sushi Sake and it's the very moderately priced version of Nobu except Nobu is Nobu and Sushi Sake is just amazing. This is one of those things where I don't really want to review Sushi Sake because it's so cool and you just want to keep it to yourself but then again, they must continue to thrive so you have to do word of mouth free marketing. There is a reason why the wait is so long. This is not an eat and run place. I feel like Sushi Sake makes it more cultural for you to eat sushi. We tested the place by getting Hamachi (yellow tail) Sashimi along with Uni (sea urchin) nigiri because we can trust the place. The Hamachi was cut well and it melted like butter. The sea urchin was fresh. This reminds me of real Japanese restaurants on their seating style. They have a good selection of sake. It just reminds me of Japantown sushi places in San Francisco. my problem: i'm not from Texas and have had sushi and excellent Japanese ryori in Osaka, Tokyo, Honolulu, Socal, Bay Area, and Sydney. after reading the reviews on yelp, i had somewhat lofty expectations. after dining at Sushi Sake recently - had the volcano, spider and some assorted onigiri; wife had salmon shioyaki - i was disappointed. for the price, i thought the fish-rice ratio for the onigiri and rolls was too small. taste was rather average (was this koshihikari rice?) as well. i've had MUCH better sushi at small restaurants in Hawai'i and did not pay near the $75 i shelled out at SS. and while the ambience is nice, for me it's all about the food. for example, it's no longer there but my fave was Sada's near the Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu. not much atmosphere but excellent sushi, pupus, drinks and reasonably priced. read more

Richardson Gem! Ok, I've only been once. But I loved it. Granted my standards are not quite as high for Richardson as they are for Dallas but if you live here, this is a great little place to go. The service was perfect, sushi was excellent, nigori sake was yummy (if you haven't had Nigori, try it... it rocks!...served cold, not warm, it's unfiltered goodness!!), ambiance was lovely, the sushi bar is pretty and the chefs are so nice... I suppose, if I had my way... every restaurant would have cozy little booth areas or something of the likes so that you have that nice, intimate feeling. The only thing I'm not a fan of in this place is that if it gets crowded, they will seat more than one party at a table. So... we sat at the sushi bar, which really still puts you next to strangers on either side but I'm just a little shy at first so it may not bother you. All in all, I really do like this place and highly recommend if you're looking for good sushi in Richardson. read more

We came here on a Saturday night and the wait was around 45 minutes for a table and 30 minutes for the bar. They also don't seat incomplete parties. We did enjoy the food though. We ordered the aji, sushi combo b, and tempura shrimp. We were told that service was bad so we kind of expected it coming in and we definitely experienced it... kind of. Prices were a bit unclear and the descriptions could be better for the non-Japanese food experts. We asked for general recommendations and the waitress kind of danced around so we gave up. My chair was a little too far out on accident and the lady told me sternly "You cannot sit like that." To be fair though, they were extremely busy so it was understandable. The sushi chef saved the day by recommending us with food and gave us really good service though! The aji, which he recommended was really good and quite interesting! Overall, we paid 60 for 3 girls with no alcohol and we were happily full. Not bad at all. read more

We've been here for many times. The food was Okie, nothing really special . I love the beef asparagus for the first time I tried, but it seems like salty the next few times we came back ... This place is close to where I live , and the food was good compare to many place in Richardson. But the problem is they take us in at 9:45pm( they close at 10:30) and they were rushing us to order the food before the kitchen close. Then we saw they took some more customers in after that. Then why would they take more customers when they're rushing us to order. I've also ask for some Sriracha hot sauce it took 10mins so I had to remind the lady wearing a kimono "where's our hot sauce. She didn't reply just point her finger to the waiter. This explains the hospitality services they are providing.Last but not least when we paid for they bill, they ask us I want my change back " I told them yes." The waiter came back with the change and a piece of note stating their gratuity 15-20% and had it highlighted this is sad for a small restaurant with not good service requesting a good amount of tip. read more

I was pretty excited to eat at this place because of the reviews I had seen. I've done sushi at a few places and so far I think that sushi robota is the best sushi joint in town. Me and my girlfriend went on a Tuesday night even though it wasn't busy it took them about 10 minutes for them to send a waitress over to our table. We had the seabass and miso which ended up being a thin cut of seabass and overcooked and dry. How they overcooked a fatty fish like seabass is beyond me. Nabeyaki udon was alright but I could taste the chlorine in the tap water they used for the soup. Prob means they had to water down the soup base later on. The sashimi was above average but not excellent. The hamachi sashimi was different than the hamachi I'm used to. The toro was good but at 50 bucks for 4 pieces it better damn well be. I am a sushi snob I'll admit so when they brought Me non freshly grated wasabi with a plate of sashimi I was really irritated. I should drop them to 3 stars for that. So, let me start by saying I LOVE Sushi Sake! I have been going to them for years (obviously including the old awesome location). Their food is awesome! On par with Uchi Dallas if not any other 4/5 star sushi restaurant. What has changed is their service and attention to detail and customer satisfaction. I completely understand that you are one of the most popular sushi joints in town and you have to have rules about the whole party arriving before being seated. Really, I understand. But what happened to the courtesy of asking those waiting patrons if they want a drink? You don't have a freestanding bar and I wanted a bottle of wine and edamame for my wife and I as we waited for our third person to arrive at 5:30p on a Wednesday night. That's lost revenue that you obviously don't care about because you never bothered to ask. When our friend arrived we had a choice between group seating or sushi bar. Fine. We chose sushi bar as we normally would for the intimacy of service and awesomeness of the sushi chefs. Our server (sorry to call you out "Jenny") was absolutely indifferent to us and the fact we wanted to spend money. She really had no time to be bothered with this group of three and literally had to be flagged down for a second bottle of wine. Yeah this is a first world problem and yeah we go there for the awesome sushi. But seriously, service and attitude count. Gotta say this was my most disappointing visit ever to Sushi Sake and I sincerely hope it's not a trend that continues because the food is SO GOOD!!! read more

First time eating sushi- ever!! The parking lot was full so I figured it should be good. The wait to be seated was fairly long so we decided to sit at whatever came up available first which was the bar. It turned out to be a front row seat to see all of the guys making the sushi. Awesome!! I ordered spicy tuna rolls and salmon roe. My husband got sushi plate B. We also ordered some fried tofu for an appetizer. The tofu was good but difficult for me to eat using chopsticks- me being a newbie at it and all. The sushi was presented nicely and tasted better than I thought sushi would. It seemed very fresh. The salmon roe was salty and kind of exploded when bitten. Interesting!! My hubby really liked it a lot. The staff was friendly and polite. The restaurant seemed clean and had nice atmosphere. They gave us an orange at the end of the meal. Would I eat sushi again? I think I would!! read more
