Horrible, Horrible food and even worse customer service! I don't know how this restaurant has been doing business for this long. My coworkers and I went there for lunch on Monday at noon. The place was virtually empty, with only three occupied tables. That should have given us an indication of what was to come. The appetizers we ordered were stale and borderline rotten. I am guessing they gave us leftovers from the weekend. The food was so bad that we asked the server to cancel our main course. We were scared we would get sick. That's when the manager came over and said that they cannot cancel our order. She was extremely rude about it, and making a scene in her own restaurant :-). So we just decided to pay for our meals and leave (without eating anything), rather than fight with her. I don't usually write reviews and I'm not a vengeful person. But the customer service at this restaurant really disgusted me. There are many other excellent restaurants run by hard-working, nice people where I can spend my money. My husband and I took our grand sons yesterday to Sushi Sake. Since my grand sons love salmon, we ordered 4 nigri salmon sushi, 2 salmon skin roll, 1 rainbow roll, one sushi and sashimi combo, and one sushi combo B. When the order came, the waitress brought 3 big plates and said that they were all our orders. We did not think anything of it but I asked my husband that it looked not. One plate had 5 salmon slices along with rolls. I asked my husband "is this the rainbow roll?" we never had rainbow roll or salmon skin roll and I did not know how it looked. Besides that I said, "nigri sushi" is not regular sushi? why is there only salmon slices?" While I and my husband are talking, my grand sons have already eaten salmon slices. My husband told me, "well the waitress said it is our order and must be right one." As we were trying to eat our meal, waitress came to out table and snatched the plate that had salmon slices and rolls. We were embarrassed and did not know what to say or do. The waitress did not off any apology and did not explain what happened. The waitress came back after few minutes of suddenly taking the plate she took from us and said that we ate the salmon that was not our order that it was very expensive fish. Her English was not good and we did not understand fully what she was trying to say. Then she asked if we still wanted our order of salmon and rolls to come. We said since you have taken our plate, we want the right plate that was made as our order. She then brought our right order of food. Well when the bill came, we were charged for those 5 pieces of salmon, $16. My husband went to talk to the manager who also did not offer apology for their mistake of bringing wrong order at first but instead the manager kept telling my husband, "you ate it. so you need to pay for it". My husband try to tell the manager, 'the waitress brought the wrong order and told us that it was our order. The mistake was on your part at first. We were not told of any explanation when she took away the plated all the sudden, no apology from the waitress of her mistakes." Manager did not offer the apology from his waitress staff. His main focus was that we pay for the salmon pieces. My husband told the manager, " I did not say I am not going to pay for the food we had but you need to apologize to us first. " This we never got. We paid for the bill, $136.40 which includes $16 of 5 salmon slices. No tip!!!!.We normally would put 20-25 % of the bill depending on the services we get. But how they treated us last night, we felt like they did wrong. I am wondering who got the plate that was taken from our table. I imagine that Sushi Sake just put back 5 pieces of salmon on that same plate and served it to whoever ordered that plate. I have been to this place several times before but we will never go back again. I will be discouraging my family and friends from going there. There are plenty of good sushi places in DFW area. If same kind of thing happened in other restaurants, we would have gotten explanation and apology as well as not having to pay for the portion we ate by the time they realized their mistake. read more

We've been following this chef since the '90s. The food is always consistently fresh and well made. We have our favorite like the tuna, yellow tail and aji. We also really like their tuna avocado, tataki and hikko roll. Their kiso and shrimp tempura are awesome. And of course, we can never go wrong with their California rolls. read more

The sushi chefs are very friendly and the service is good. Be aware of the hours of operations because there's a mid-day break where they are closed. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes to seat 6, but we ended up waiting for almost 1 1/2 hours, all the while other smaller parties were seated before us even if they came in after. And the hostesses completely ignored us the entire time. The only thing they had to offer was the tatami room, but they wanted to tack on a 20% fee for sitting there! This is easily the best sushi restaurant I have ever been to in the Dallas area. The restaurant alone is beautiful and I was sat directly in front of the sushi bar. It was refreshing to see a large variety of fresh fish and vegetables being used to make sushi in front of me while I ate. The chefs are very knowledgeable about which fish are best during a specific time of year and are quick to give stellar recommendations. This restaurant can be both casual or romantic and the sushi tastes as fresh as it looks. Overall I got three large sushi rolls and an order of shrimp dumplings and only spent about $27 before a tip. I could sit at the sushi bar for hours, the waitstaff are very hospitable and the restaurant feels very authentic. For the sushi that they serve, the price is really very modest. Weekends are extremely crowded and for good reason, but it's worth the 30 minute table wait. read more

I am frequent customer for this place, it is an easily 4 star rating until I went today. I have came here with my wife on Tuesday night about 7:15pm, with a friend. We sat at the bar as the table are full. I order some food and my friend order a lot of food. my wife whom had ate a little bit of food prior to coming did not order (as we are sharing food).. My food came pretty late, especially I already finish eating my main dish then the soup came after I finish, and just when i was about done eating and about to leave. The manager or the lady in the front ask my wife to move as there are people waiting for seat. I am not quite happy about this because they are basically asking us to leave because she didn't order food. I was still eating. A little on the pricer side, but the sushi is super fresh. Got the chirashi bowl and it came with a generous portion of rice. Finally! Fresh, quality fish. We live about 50 miles North and this is the only spot we'll go for sushi and sashimi- and we make the hour+ drive at least once a month. This is the best Japanese restaurant in DFW! I go to Sushi Sake every week and now that I am out of town I've been craving their food sooo much. The sushi is just splendid, extremely fresh and clean to the palate, my favorite is the salmon, I can't get enough of it...the rice is just perfect. It's a pretty romantic restaurant, very cozy and well design, but sit at the bar for an authentic experience. =) Arrive early 11:30am for lunch and 6:00pm for dinner as it can get really crowded with a long wait time.... read more

I used to be a big fan of this place, but my most recent visit was very disappointing. The quality of the fish was still the high quality they are known for. Unfortunately the service was terrible. The wait staff could barely speak. Not that they could not speak English, they could barely speak, period. As with any sushi meal, there were multiple orders, and she forgot about one of them, which then took 30 minutes to get delivered. There was no explanation, no apology, no nothing. Very bad experiece with my server, Yui. Her service was lacking and she had such a rude attitude. When ordering, it felt like I was bothering her or wasting her time. I even saw her give a large sigh and frown when my husband called her back to order fried clam( which tasted amazing). Food was great, but with the horrible service, it left a bad taste in my mouth. After reading several reviews and owner replies, i highly doubt they will change anything. Im not surprised, when you serve great food, you can treat some customers however you want. Sushi Sake is good, but the lack of good service prevents it from being great. One of my worst Sushi experiences ever and I know good sushi. Over 4,000 sushi dinners! Not sure why this place is so crowded but obviously a lot of humans don't know good sushi. I usually go to Sushi Robata and it's number one in Dallas in many ways but was meeting friends that worked that way. What happened sushi sake? My last visit here recently left me questioning if my previous dining experiences here a faint memory or did my palette just change? Everything just seemed so basic here. Granted the ambiance is nice and the sushi selection we ordered was fresh, it was just missing a wow factor. I used to believe that for the price and the freshness of the fish, it was a real hidden gem in my part of town. But after my last visit, and the bill coming out to nearly 130 dollars for 2 people, that value perception is gone. We asked our server about an omakase option, but it seems like he didn't know much about it and couldn't elaborate. We ended up ordering a la carte and was kind of sticker shocked when the bill came around. We've paid the same amount doing omakase at tei tei and other sushi places nationally and left stuffed, with the quality of fish as good or better. Is it wrong to write another review so soon after my first? I don't care, sushi sake is worth it. Last night took a buddy of mine who is a fairly adventurous eater (but i was skeptical). Everything good has been said about Sushi Sake already in terms of the mundane: great service, friendly chefs, cool people to talk to at sushi bar, phenomenal decor... so we sat at the bar, and why you wouldn't i do not know. start off with some light faire: squid salad- extra yummy, albacore, hamachi... easy stuff. Then we went a little off the beaten path with the sliced snail sushi, which must have been extremely fresh, cause wow it was yummy. then cockrell shell sushi, also super super good. a regular there recommended natto, which i'd never had - fermented soybean- and honestly although the texture was a bit weird, i'm always thrilled to order off menu. we ate well last night, no doubt. splurged on the $15 sake sampler, and frankly i'd pay that much just for a big glass of otokoyama-sake anyway. the sampler is NOT just shots of sake, its substantial doses. we ate the whole specials menu, had sake, squid, you name it, and for two it was only $115. Best sushi around, it's so fresh! Sit at the sushi bar when you go, it's so fun to watch all of the amazing platters of sushi rolls they put together. I also learn about new rolls, sashimi, etc. to try. One of my favorites is the Aji (Spanish Mackerel) and they deep fry the bones after and they turn into yumminess! Just came back from this place and am disgusted. I have been eating here almost for a decade ever since they were located in the shopping center on campbell rd back in my UTD days. Today will be the last day for me to eat here. Had an improptu dinner with my wife. Nice meal as usual and decent service by the server who seemed alittle mechanical but understandable being how busy they were. As I paid and signed my check the man who I imagine is the manager comes up to me and points to my bill. He asks if their service was not good enough. I tell him it was fine. He then asks why I tipped so little! Then he goes on to lecture me on how that is not the american way to tip! What?! This little asian man who barely speaks english is lecturing me about american culture... "Americans dont tip like this" were his exact words. What an insult! I am Asian btw. He is clearly recognizing that I am asian and apparently thinks that i am inadequate and deficient in my knowledge of american culture. Or maybe he doesnt think asians are americans?! I am not sure if I should be offended by his ignorance or his rudeness... I am for sure dumbfounded by his pure stupidity though. I ask him a sarcastic, rhetorical question, "how much should I tip then?" Then he goes on to give me the exact number of amount I need to tip! Wow just wow. Not wanting to deal with this ignorant narcissist, I correct the tip amount and leave. Today they lost a customer who generated thousands of dollars for them each year. Not only were my wife and I frequent visitors but we have brought many of our friends to this place over the years. (We eat here at least once a month, usually more, spend about $100 each time. Much more when we go with friends) Thats not gonna happen anymore. They lost all that for what?! For a couple of dollars?! What a great way to run a business.
