I love this sushi place and everyone is so friendly here, and I've been coming here for literally over 2 decades, I'm disappointed now when you opt to stay in and order off the menu, they serve everything in disposable sushi trays they serve to go orders and delivery in, the cups as well. This is a hidden gem in Forest Hills, there are many sushi places in FH but this place has always been consistent in terms of freshness of the fish. Our two favorites are crazy dragon roll and sashimi platter. You get shrimp tempura and eel in the crazy dragon roll and it's a bit spicy but not too overwhelming. The sashimi platter comes with 22 pieces of sashimi, plenty of variety, salmon, white tuna, crab sticks, tamagotchi, yellowtail, fluke etc They are so popular even the pandemic can't slow them down! While this is a small place with no bathroom, it does have air conditioner which is a plus come summer time. Ahhhhh. I ordered a sushi combo meal which consisted of 8 piece sushi, 1 California roll, and a small salad and miso soup for 16 bucks. Really good deal. Holy crap this place is beyond small. There's no bathroom so be easy on the drinks. The door is left wide open allowing flying insects to travel in and dine with you whilst there's AC on. I'm not quite sure how leaving the door open makes sense. I was playing tennis with the mosquitos. Their tap water is refreshing. We ordered two rolls each. I had the shrimp tempura and spicy crunchy salmon roll. He had something fancy -- I forget what but every time we have sushi I always enjoy his more (side eye). The rolls relied heavily on the condiments to give them flavor. The shrimp tempura roll was huge and difficult to eat in regards to being completely filled with cucumbers and a piece of shrimp. The tempura batter was a soggy mess. Their idea of "crunchy" is rice crispy cereal mixed in with mashed salmon and rolled up and then served on a plate. The near perfect reviews for this place surprised me, and made me question whether or not I was looking at the right place - you mean the tiny little place with the refrigerator display of take-out sushi in the front? I didn't even know they had sit-down tables with waiter service, so I was delighted when I finally went inside and tried this place out to find some of the best rolls I've had in NY. There are about 3 tables of four, and a few seats at the sushi bar in the tiny space. Most people seem to be coming in and out and getting take-out since there are so few seats, but we were able to get a spot and experienced the excellent, friendly service. There are a bunch of special rolls on the menu, so we went with a few of those. The best of course were the ones involving eel, but they were all great: - Munchy Roll ($9): Yellowtail, tuna, avocado, scallion and crunch - Tuna Trio ($14): Spicy tuna and avocado wrapped with white tuna and red tuna. - Red Dragon ($14): Spicy tuna and avocado topped with eel and red tobiko - King Dragon ($14): Eel and avocado topped with eel and tobiko. For a little place like this, I was shocked to see how generous they were with the eel. Each of those Dragon rolls had a huge, thick slab of eel on top, which was nice and warm and delicious. The 5-star rating might be slightly generous, but it gets the extra bump given the pleasant surprise of finding such a good option for food in the otherwise pretty weak neighborhood of food choices that is Forest Hills. There are better rolls at a number of other places in the city, but the great service here also elevates it above a lot of other similar places. My favorite rolls here are the Scallion Yellowtail, Salmon Avocado, and other various simple rolls. (I like them simple as you can tell!) I choose to sit in to enjoy the freshness of the ingredients but take-out is okay, too! Each piece is cut evenly, mouth-sized, and with generous amount of ingredients. It's quite tasty! This spot is very tiny and probably seats around only 10 people. You pretty much can see the entire restaurant with just one glance. I was here a few times when they just opened for lunch and there are people sitting there waiting to order already. The ladies there are always friendly and always alert when you need them. While I truly believe Sushi Time is a great choice for sushi rolls or quick grab-n-go lunch, I disagree with it being compared to Sushi Yasu located a few blocks away. Driving on Austin street, you can easily miss this store if you blink. Luckily, we had 5 pairs of eyes, looking for the highly recommended Sushi Time. This tiny 16 seater-sushi hole-in-the-wall had more patrons taking out than sitting in. The two of us were seated immediately right by the door at the only available chairs. The sushi chefs were rapidly slicing and rolling fulfilling orders as happy patrons indulged in decorated rolls. Great value for your money! As promised by other patrons, the chefs of Sushi Time make it a point to give extras. We ordered 2 unis and three arrived! Buttery, sweet, slightly salty, this was the best uni I've had in the states. A tuna salad arrived shortly after, also on the house. And the rolls were multi colored, flavorful, covered in roe or mayo sauce or both (see pics). The tuna trio had bits of buttery 'red tuna'. This might be some of the best sushi that I have had in months. It's a very small place with a little sushi bar and about 7 tables that seat 2 a piece, place the bar which can seat about 3 or 4. It seems like most people just order to go from here, or pick up some sushi from the little deli fridge on the right hand side. The sushi in the deli fridge is about $1-2 less than the fresher made sushi that you get when eating there. My preference would be to eat here, even though the to go sushi is just as good. They have great service and they will randomly give you free stuff compliments of the sushi chef, but I think it might depend on how much you spend. My recommendation would be to get the sashimi, one of the combos which are a great deal. For under $15 you can get some great sashimi with soup and a salad. I pass SUSHI TIME often and wonder if it's going to be another restaurant with mediocre food and overpriced for what it is. My boyfriend and I ordered the salmon avocado rolls and crunchy tuna rolls with avocado. I must say that this is the best crunchy tuna roll I have ever tasted in my life. The crunchy part was around the roll covering the rice. Most places, will put the crunch in the center. The fish was unbelievably fresh. A small place to sit down, so not a place to come with larger groups. Nonetheless, sitting in here can be surprisingly relaxing. You can't go wrong with anything here really - it's preference. Prime time deliveries can take a while, so plan ahead. Got this spot as a quick dinner. I ordered the sashimi box which came with 8 pieces of sashimi, 1 miso soup, 1 salad, and California roll for 17$ and got an eel avocado roll and a shrimp tempura roll. It wasn't until after I ordered that I noticed there was a 22 pieces of sashimi deal for 22$ but by the time I called back they already had my order ready. While I was sad I couldn't change it, I was extremely impressed by how quickly the order was done. The lady in the front was very nice and even packed extra ginger for me. The sashimi was awesome-- it tasted super fresh and the salad came w a great dressing. The shrimp tempura was also very filling and the ginger was pickled nicely. Tbh I would give this place a 4.5; knocking off .5 of a star bc I the eel avocado tasted not fresh/borderline bad and they gave VERY LITTLE amounts of wasabi. You need to try this restaurant. I am a sushi fanatic and am very judgmental about sushi. This is the best sushi spot I've ever been to, and one of my favorite restaurants ever. My gf and I go here almost weekly, and whenever we have friends visit we always take them here. We get eye rolls from our friends in Manhattan when we tell them that the best sushi spot in NYC is in Forest Hills, but everyone we've brought here has been won over. The restaurant is pretty small and looks very unassuming from the outside, but is clean and well managed. If you get a spot for dine-in, the space is great for a cozy and casual date night, and the owner and people working there are amazingly friendly. That said, the vast majority of their business seems to be takeout / delivery, and they also stock a grab-and-go fridge (although we always prefer to order our own). The sushi itself is phenomenal. The quality of fish is SHOCKING, get a few nigiri pieces and save them for last, they melt in your mouth. They have an extensive menu of specialty rolls that they rotate 3-4 times per year and are also great. For "crunchy" here they use something like a puffed rice cereal, which I've only ever seen at a couple other sushi places. It's such a good choice and works especially well with their rolls. The portion sizes are generous and the prices are really fair (and extremely well priced relative to the high quality). Ok, maybe I wouldn't be surprised to find a place dispensing high caliber sushi in a strictly take out nook, dare I say fast-food type set-up in some Japanese city but not here, certainly not in the outer boroughs. The fact of the matter is the raw fish being slung here is consistently of a quality superior to most full service sushi restaurants despite the fact that the place is a tiny hole in the wall with no bathroom. Even the stuff in the always fully stocked ready to serve take out case is always incredibly fresh, but they will make whatever you want fresh to order right away. Hubby and I moved into FH recently and were looking for sushi after a long day of appliance shopping! My good friend mentioned Sushi Time was her fave sushi place so I had it in my bookmarks to check out. We've passed by it numerous times walking up/down Austin St. It's a super small establishment, (with no bathrooms!) but don't let that detract you from the food. Hubs and I walked in 15 mins prior to closing, and they still offered to make us to-go sushi. We placed an order for 4 rolls - spicy salmon crunch, eel avo, tempura shrimp, and white tuna avo.
