Coming from California, my personal bar for sushi was set very high, so trying sushi anywhere so far from an ocean seemed like the recipe for disappointment. Sushi Ya however, was far from disappointing. Their selection of delicious rolls covers a wide array of flavors to suit anyone's palate, and their sashimi is top-notch quality and full of flavor. If you prefer all-you-can-eat, they do not disappoint. They will send plates brimming full of sushi and rolls to your table, so be sure to bring a hearty appetite. I've given this place quite a few chances but my last time cemented my opinion. We usually got this take out, which was ok. Being from southern Idaho I will admit my sushi experiences are pretty limited, but it has always tasted fine. My main concerns revolve around the restaurant itself. When I started going years ago it seemed clean and the staff was accommodating, not friendly but accommodating. I can deal with that. But the last few times I have gone it seems to have gotten worse. Something as simple as asking for a refill of ice water required me to get up and go to the register. I understand things get forgotten, but asking three times is a little much. Also after two orders of all you can eat we had to practically chase down a sever to take a third. But my main issue now is the cleanliness if the dining room. The menus are sticky like they haven't been wiped down in ages. The soy sauce on the center of the tables is the same. Even the center of the table itself had a coat of sticky, greasy film in it. This last time I was seated by a wall and the amount of boogers smeared on the wall made me lose my appetite all together. Dried rice and whatever else clumped up in the corners of the floor. I noticed the cleanliness declining the last couple times I have been and hoped it was temporary, but it's been a year and it seems to be the norm. I know kids are gross and will smear things on walls, but the walls do not appear to have been cleaned in quite sometime. When I see a dining room in this condition it makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen, and beings they specialize in seafood that concerns me greatly. The food is delicious but the service is absolutely terrible. Their waiter came to our table three times in the whole 2 hours we were there. They close at two o'clock and refuse to give you a box when their servers are the reason you didn't get your food until right before they close. Lets see, how should I describe Sushi Ya? I see this place as the "Walmart" of Sushi restaurants. The service is absolutely atrocious, the hostess/owner is rude and should consider taking some customer service training. In addition, the restaurant employs an individual whom would probably serve betters as a bodyguard to ensure that those not participating in "all you can eat" at that particular table are not breaking the all you can eat rules. It was quite uncomfortable when the "bodyguard" or the SUSHI Nazi as I like to refer to him, stopped and watched all of us to make sure that we are not "cheating". Furthermore, the sushi is not fresh, and overall mediocre is too high of a definition. In closing, I have attended the restaurant several times and each time Sushi Ya has been disappointing. Super unsatisfied with my experience they over charge for a soda and don't even ask you if you'd like a refill after he walked by 3 times and saw that all of our parties cups were completely empty. On top of that the sushi chefs should be called magicians cause when they think you've had enough for all you can eat lunch/dinner they disappear and stop taking your order. This is the worst place in Twin Falls. I will never go back again. We ordered the all you can eat sushi for 18 dollar and they demand we need to finish everything on plate if we want make new order. They need to mention that on the menu if they have a rule like this. I've tried the sushi buffet in las veags and it wasn't like that. I felt that sushiya is trying to cheat the customers when they forget to mention their all you can eat buffet rule. Service was very slow. Food is not good for the price that you are paying. I moved here from Utah, a place where you have dozens of sushi places. When you think of Idaho and sushi, you do not expect much. When I was taken here, I was surprised. I decided to give this place two stars. I started off by ordering five orders or albacore sashimi, not only was the fish a brown tint versus white like its supposed to be (old) the slices were near transparent. They were also placed upon boulders of rice which weren't too bad, but sashimi is supposed to be bite sized. I tried explaining this concept to the owner after he confronted me about how he should charge me because I only ate half. The edamame smelled.like lake water and had a tint of brown and was extremely hairy. Another sign of age. Clearly this establishment cares more about cost efficiency than quality. I've had better sushi in pre packaged cartons at 7\11. If it wasn't for the hardworking chefs behind the counter, id probably say stay away from this place. Eat here at your own risk. If I could do 0 stars I would...... First off no one welcomes you or helps explain the menu... It would be nice if any one spoke English. I eat a lot of sushi and every thing I asked for they looked at me like I was from a differ world.. It stinks like old fish and bacteria as soon as you open the front door.. The sushi bar fridge is full of old fish that should be covered and sealed.. Instead it is really hot in the restaurant and fish is covered in flies.. Been going to sushi ya in twin since they have opened years ago. Thought it was good at first but then began a slow and painful death crash. Prices are good of course. And thankfully for them the locals of twin falls Idaho wouldn't know good sushi if it smacked them in the face but they sure as hell like a good deal. Which is the only reason they're still open. Rolls are often made wrong, the spicy tuna is by far the worse roll ive ever had. Not long ago a friend of mine became very I'll and. His throat swelled up shortly after visiting sushi ya. Went too the doctor to find out he has a parasite in his throat and it had laid eggs. I'm not saying it came from sushi ya but the doctor said it's most commonly attracted from sushi and asked if he had ate any recently.....idk about the rest of you but I'm not taking the chance again. I have now been to Sushi Ya over 20 times. I have to say that overall, the food is relatively excellent. I have been served the best Sushi at the beginning of dinner time, so that is the time I would suggest someone go. Some people misinterpret the owner's professionalism for attitude,which is slightly ignorant. After speaking with her, I found out that people have written all over her bathroom walls multiple times, and DELIBERATELY not followed the Sushi rules mentioned on the menu, such as "For all you can eat buffet, you MUST finish rolls before you order another." I believe that to be fair. Also, I have watched MULTIPLE people ask to change their rolls. It ALSO says on the menu that all rolls are served as is. I think many people are uncomfortable with the fact that the entire staff is foreign. Well, I am here to say of you smile and are polite about everything, they will treat you very well. :) I will continue going here for as long as I can. :) BTW, the new rolls are AMAZING! We sat down at 1:55 pm and was told by everyone that they are closing pretty soon. The sushi chef kept telling us they are closing pretty soon. We were rushed to order and by 2:10pm that we needed to order if we wanted more sushi for they are closing up. The staff and the chef (young lady) were not friendly at all. They seem to be put out by our late arrival. By 2:20 the chefs left. We thought they are suppose to serve till 2:30, that is what they advertise. We were there on Wednesday. Now for the sushi, it's ok for all you can eat but it made too fast and inconsistant. Sometimes the rice get squeezed to a hard ball or the rice is over cooked or undercooked or not seasoned well. The fish are cut weird shapes or cut too thick or too thin. I have been eating there for many years and it seems if the owner is there the staff are friendly and if not the staff are not doing their job.
