    Udon (Tempora Udon)
    Katherine A.

Upscale surroundings and authentic Japanese hibachi, sushi and noodle dishes are served at Hino Oishi. I was craving udon, so we stopped for lunch. We sat in the bar area, which is quiet and lovely. Our server, Johnnie, was friendly and attentive. The menu offers lunch specials, and other entrees. Daily sushi specials were posted on a board, along with tempting cocktails. I ordered the Tempura Udon, which came with a salad, big bowl of Udon and a plate of shrimp and mixed vegetable tempura. The salad wasn't special, but the Japanese style dressing tasted phenomenal. The tempura was hot and delicious made with big tender shrimp, squash, onion and sweet potato. The big bowl of udon was ok. My husband had the Tonkatsu (breaded tenderloin with a sweet sauce) lunch. The meal came with rice and soup or salad. His miso soup was light with mushrooms. The Tonkatsu was delicious and filling with a light breading. A manager walked around but did not engage with people. Parking was tight during our visit, we actually had to park in back. I'd return. The bento boxes looked incredible.

The taste was amazing! Server was also very friendly.

I ordered the spicy tuna roll and the spicy trio. Amazing taste, quality food. Friendly server too.

Very nice and clean inside. Great overall atmosphere. The employees were welcoming. Our cook was playful while cooking and our kids had a great time. I really enjoyed the jalapeño tempura puffs, while they weren't spicy (which I was hoping they were) they had a great flavor. I got the chicken and shrimp combo. Well seasoned. Well cooked. The only thing was my hubby and kid asked for no mushrooms, and the cook forgot because he confirmed our order before cooking. Not a big deal to us though. My other kid loved the sushi. I'll have to try that next time I go

First time trying Hino Oishi and their hibachi. Our chef was not only very personable & pleasant, he also did a wonderful job preparing our food. The 4 of us all ordered various seafood options, (scallops, shrimp, calamari), nice size portions, and it was all cooked perfectly. He was also very accommodating to everyone's personal preferences: no teriyaki, no soy, some no butter, some sub coconut oil, no salt etc. Atmosphere is great, pleasant decor. Great value for quality food. Look forward to returning

Lunch specials are a must here-$18 for several items. You get your bang for your buck. Please try the lemon drop martini. You won't regret it. The ambience is soft, the interior is pretty dark, which is great for dates. There are plenty of tables for hibachi as well as private booths. The staff is always nice and friendly as well as patient (we tend to take a while to choose) since the menu is extensive. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The ginger salad is a must, some of the best dressing I've had. If you like spicy and fried sushi, try the hot mess girl roll and thank me later.

Hibachi is my nephew's favorite, and it was his birthday, so I took him here to celebrate. Hibachi is always an experience, and this visit was no different. The servers put on a fun show, and it's always a good time. It's honestly a great spot for families--spacious, entertaining, and the food was delicious and super filling (we left with leftovers). And my nephew absolutely loved it.

We made a last-minute decision to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday at Hino Oishi. Even though we arrived right at the start of dinner time without a reservation, we were fortunate to be seated immediately. The waitress was fantastic, taking the time to explain the menu thoroughly and offering excellent recommendations for us as first-time visitors. For an appetizer, I ordered the Golden California sushi, which was absolutely mouthwatering and unlike anything I've tried before. For my main course, I chose the shrimp and steak hibachi. The chef did an outstanding job, especially with cooking my steak to a perfect medium. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that their dinner hibachi includes chicken fried rice. I also have to rave about their ginger salad--it's the best I've ever had--and their onion soup was equally delightful.

Went with a group of 13 dined here for hibachi on a Saturday night. The decor was modern Asian themed in shades of black and red. The restaurant was clean. Service was fast and friendly. We had to 2 chefs and grills. We sampled tempura shrimp and calamari for an appetizer. Both were good. I tried a lemon drop martini and that was refreshing. Dinner was plentiful and I took home half of it to finish later. We all enjoyed our meals and had a wonderful dining experience.

I came here for my birthday and had the best sushi! I was completely surprised and delighted by every part of our meal. The miso was spectacular. Perfect for a chilly day. We got so much sushi! I couldn't finish it was and had some leftovers later on. I docked one star because our waiter didn't come around very much to refill drinks and ask how we were doing. Fun times though, would definitely come back. The hibachi looked fun on the other side!

Sushi at @ hinooishiindy last night. Sorry to say it's NOT WHAT ITS HYPED UP TO BE! ‍ The star of our meal was the fried calamari. Well actually it was the sauce that came with it.  3 rolls we ordered were good; Nori Roll, Yummy Roll and the Golden Gate Bridge. However the Seaweed wrap was extremely tough and chewy lol I don't know how that could be. Everytime you bite into the roll everything comess off of it except the seaweed. You had to tare at it. The dumplings were.... just not good Unseasoned meat inside, chewy outside and nearly cold. Service was Mid. He actually brought over the wrong order not ONCE not TWICE but 3 times smh. On top of all that our Tab was $100+ for 6 rolls and 2 apps. Usually wouldn't be a problem but it was so not worth it. Check this place out. Maybe you'll have a better day than I did. I can say it was clean.

Great hibachi in Carmel. Nothing really different than any other Hibachi place but still very tasty! Went on a Sunday midday and it was pretty empty. Great service and really good food!!

We went to celebrate a birthday. Party of 9. Gratuity added to the bill. Our chef did a birthday presentation while cooking. The food was SO good. The salad dressing was on the sweeter side but great. I didn't care for the soup. I asked if they could make my food in the back (my only hibachi request every time) because I don't want the cross-contamination of the meat/eggs on my food. They didn't give me any attitude about it, which was GREATLY appreciated. The food was well seasoned. They even did a birthday presentation with the drums and allowed us to bring in cupcakes as well. Food and customer service 5/5. Would definitely recommend.

The restaurant is attractive with all the hibachi tables to the left as you walk in and bar area straight ahead. The hibachi area has low lighting and almost romantic feel till you had a room full of people. If you have a large group, they have a separate room with an 18-top Hibachi Grill. Perfect for so many personal family or office events. The bar area has 3 booths and 2 4-top tables surrounding the bar and the sushi bar is adjacent to the bar with 4 seats. I ordered a Lychee Plum Martini which is Russian Standard Vodka, Hakatsuru Plum Wine and Lychee Juice. It was excellent and I recommend. As an appetizer, I tried the Spicy Scallop Sushi Roll. The roll was sliced and tasty but I wish it was served with a flavorful sauce. For lunch, I ordered the New Strip Steak and Shrimp Hibachi Combo. The New York Strip wasn't prepared as medium rare but rather medium well, it was on the tough side and no seasoning to taste other than the tasty sauce. The medium size shrimp were tender and prepared perfectly then topped with a flavorful sauce that was on the steak and shrimp. The fried rice was tender and perfect with a light amount of seasoning and the veggies were good, too. My server was terrific and attentive. He was prompt with each serving and removed dirty dishes quickly. He checked on me several times without being intrusive. I enjoyed my experience here but due to the higher lunch prices than other places I go, I'm not sure I'd make a point to drive 45 minutes. I would however, return with a large group and utilize their 18-top Hibachi Grill! If you live close, give them a try.

We had the crab cakes and crab & artichoke dip for apps and our lunch entrees were the fried catfish sandwich with fries and the filet with mashed potatoes and collard greens. For bevvies, we tried their rosé and red zeppelin English ale. All of it, every bit and bite, was 10/10. Food breakdown: - Crab cakes: succulent lump crap meat within a lightly battered and flash fried coating. They come on a bed of arugula with a light dressing and dipping sauce for the cakes. Super yummy! - Crab & artichoke dip: ooey gooey deliciousness, perfect balance of cheese sauce too. You don't have to search for the crab or artichokes. And the fried naan chips were sliced long and thin, and could've been called naan fries actually. Perfect companion for the dip. - Fried catfish sammich: the piece of fish was huge and the batter was good. It came on Texas toast with fixins and tartar sauce. Won't lie, the only thing I wanted for was some hot sauce. That's a me problem... just gotta have hot sauce when I eat fried fish but I didn't ask for any while I was there (they may offer it) and still very much enjoyed the sandwich. - Filet: it was great... hubby got it medium and it arrived perfectly cooked. The Demi glaze sauce was so good and so were the sides. Their collard greens are seasoned up! I said does my auntie work here?! This cuisine is so comfortingly southern and didn't disappoint. Shoutout to our friendly and helpful server, Dan... our food and drinks came out quickly and so did our to-go box. His service was truly top notch. We have been living in Carmel for 5 years and this is one of the best restaurants here. If you're on the fence about trying this place, jump off and make a reservation. You won't regret it.

The pimento cheese dip was fine; closer to a nacho cheese dip. Both dips came with too few naan dippers to finish the dip (they charged extra for extra naan to finish the dip). - The cajun pasta was fine. Pasta was cooked well. I got it with chicken, which tasted good. The sauce was fine. - The hot honey chicken tenders were crispy, but lacked flavor. - The CBR chicken sandwich was good. Crispy and good size. - Do not order the side mac n cheese. $6 for some Stouffer's mac n cheese topped with the pimento cheese dip (that's basically nacho cheese dip). Overall, if someone asked to meet here for a meal I would request another restaurant but I'd still eat here if they insisted.

I'm curious to see if he gets the medal, but even if not, hopefully this recognition will draw people to visit Lone Pine, because people really need to visit. I don't know how Lone Pine would describe its menu, but I would call it elevated comfort food. One of the things my table ordered was chicken piccata. When was the last time you saw chicken piccata on a menu?! It was delicious, and served with mashed potatoes and lettuce leaves that added a nice, fresh crunch to each bite. We also got the roasted salmon, which was served with fingerling potatoes in a pesto sauce, with arugula on the side. This, too, was delicious and rich, yet fresh. I ordered the short ribs, which came with polenta and caramelized pearl onions. The short ribs were just fatty enough, and the sauce that they were surrounded by was unctuous and wonderful to eat with the polenta. I guess I should have started this review by writing about our first course! We got the French onion soup, bloody Mary wedge salad and the Caesar salad. The Caesar salad at Lone Pine is probably the best Caesar salad that I've eaten in Carmel, and maybe in all of the Indianapolis area. The thing that Lone Pine does differently and spectacularly is that they use breadcrumbs and not croutons. That makes all the difference! Granted, it does look a bit like a pile of pencil shavings on a plate, but sometimes the dowdiest foods are the best-tasting foods. The result is a satisfyingly salty, crunchy, creamy, crispy salad that I couldn't stop eating. I know I will be back to Lone Pine for the Caesar salad. We ended our meal by sharing two desserts: the apple pie panna cotta and the Lone Pine chocolate cake. Both desserts were amazing, but the cake won us all over because it looked deceptively heavy, but it was light and airy, and came with slightly sweet whipped cream. The service at Lone Pine is exceptional. They pay attention to detail here, and all of the little things are taken care of. Our server gave us just enough time between courses. Our water was refilled unobtrusively. We didn't get asked whether we've dined there before (because who cares?) and the menu wasn't over-explained (thank goodness, because I can indeed read). One thing we also noticed that we appreciated: The music was just loud enough to hear it, but not loud enough to notice it too much! It's these little things that come together to make a great dining experience.
