    Hibachi Chicken

Wanted to try this as it is the highest rated Japanese that isn't a sit down hibachi within probably 15 miles of my hotel. First off, service is okay. Not terrific, but just fine and what you expect for takeout, so not an issue whatsoever. The place is a little hole in the wall tucked over on the side of a strip mall type shopping center. No tables inside so takeout only. No self serve soda machine, just bottled drinks at a little too high if a price. The food was very good. The hibachi chicken entree came with rice, noodles, chicken, and veggies. I thought it was pretty expensive but it was a very large plate of food so the price made sense. Everything was well cooked and mostly tasty besides the noodles. They were all but flavorless without yum yum sauce on them. The yum yum was very good here, wish I'd gotten some extra. The soup was actually terrific, but I didn't try the salad because I couldn't even finish the soup and more than half the main plate before being full. Overall a very good experience and I'd go again for sure. I can certainly see why it's the highest rated Japanese takeout on the west side of Jacksonville at the time of my own review.

Like many other Yeeps in the area, I was intrigued by the consistent string of 5-star reviews for Sushi Yee, and the songs of praise sung within these reviews. "Fresh....inexpensive...amazing...." However...I wasn't entirely sold on the idea of a sushi restaurant fashioned like the typical Chinese take-out joint, and being that I was so skeptical and I wanted to make sure I had all the bases covered, I visited Sushi Yee twice before I started this review. Being that I have seafood allergies (unfortunate, I know), I called in and ordered my go-to sushi staples, the sweet potato roll ($4.50), and the chicken tempura roll ($5.00). Nothing fancy, but like I said, my options are often limited. On both visits there were a couple of other patrons there seated at one of the few tables waiting for their to-go orders. "No-frills" sums up this establishment to a tee, complete with the quintessential overhead pictures of popular items, bottled and canned drinks, and take-out menus piled on the counter. After a brief wait, I went to gather and pay for my order. I noticed that there was only one small container of shrimp sauce in my bag for my 2 rolls, and when I asked for some more, I was told there was a 50 cent charge for each extra 2-ounce container. One shrimp sauce for 2 rolls? Not cool, when they set a whole bottle of it on the table for you at most sushi restaurants. I reluctantly paid the extra for 2 more and whisked my food away to enjoy at home. I'm not sure if they were in a hurry or if it was the type of rice that was used, but my rolls seemed loosely packed, as several pieces fell apart to the touch. The Sweet Potato Roll is a cooked roll, yet on both occasions there were chunks in every section that weren't done all the way through and had that awkward "raw" crunch to it. The sauce that was drizzled over the top had a little kick, and was a welcome addition, but the roll in itself was a sore disappointment. Thankfully the Chicken Tempura Roll came through for me, although once again, several fragments fell apart. Well-presented, savory, and altogether delicious, this was definitely the saving grace of both visits. I'm not 100% committed to Sushi Yee as of yet, because frankly I enjoy the full-service sushi restaurant experience too much, and if you notice, there's hardly a price difference between the two, from the sushi rolls to the hibachi dishes. Additionally there's some kinks to work out here as far as preparation and execution that are difficult to overlook. I'd would much rather pay the extra few bucks to tip a gracious server who throws in a free appetizer roll or dessert than have an establishment nickle and dime me for extra sauce. Till next time, my fellow Yeeps, support your local eats and businesses, and as always....SYOY!

    Finger nail

DO NOT ORDER !! After my friend and I spent over 70 dollars on an order from this restaurant through DoorDash, I found not one, but TWO FINGER NAILS in my food. By the time I found bit into the finger nail, the store was already closed. We all know what the texture of a finger nail feels like when you bite it off, and we all know what it looks like and feels like in our hands. It was most definitely a finger nail. AND THATS NOT ALL, as I mentioned, the store was closed by the time this issue occurred. when we called the next day and told them, expecting some sort of compensation or at least acknowledgement of the issue, they told us to "take it up with DoorDash" and "there's nothing we can do for you" as well as set the phone down, and then hung up as we were speaking. HORRIBLE customer service. 0/10 recommend. My next call will be to the department of health.

I've been meaning to come here for a while but normally when I order Japanese it's my wife and I dining in. Well, one day I couldn't figure out what I wanted so I called in my order and dropped by to pick it up. A soup, salad, spicy tuna roll and a chicken Hibachi ran me a little over $21. I thought everything was good, however wish I had the option for clear soup - lady never asked on the phone what kind of soup along with which salad dressing. Also, the spicy tuna roll could have been a bit better, but I really enjoyed the Hibachi. I'll be back and give this place another shot.

    Old lettuce.

Really disappointed. Ordered take out and got home to find old and wilted lettuce for our salad. Felt extremely ripped off when we opened our entree and noticed the ratio of onions was exaggeratedly higher than the ratio of our chicken. Oh and we got only one...ONE piece of broccoli for the whole tray. I guess with all the time spent adding onions the broccoli became an afterthought. I was really hoping to like this place as it was our first time ordering there but this was a horrible first impression.

    Tuna/salmon roll

We stopped by here for a quick meal. I think this is a solid 3-the location is a bit sketchy and the place is takeout only. My husband and I both got the sushi lunch special for around $10; two rolls with soup and salad. Miso soup was tasty, had some mushrooms. The rolls were ok. My husband got spicy tuna and spicy salmon (pictured) and I got spicy krab and shrimp tempura. He didn't finish his meal, stating that it lacked flavor, the two kinds of fish were indiscernible, and they looked a little icky. My rolls were fine, the spicy one had good flavor but the tempura one was bland. The spicy ones had panko on top to add crunch. The salad was literally a few pieces of wet iceberg lettuce and a container of dressing. Probably won't be back.

My facebook review i made on 12/21/16 I used to pass by here on my way to school and pointed it out to my mom one day when we went to redbox for movies. We stopped in and i got 2 rolls and mom got some soup. once you spend a certain amount you get a free roll an other items which is pretty cool since we always end up getting food for my brother and dad as well. This is some of the freshest and well put together sushi i have seen, the prices are decent and the food is good. The owner is really nice as well. she sat and talked to us for a bit and is always really friendly and remembers us when we come in. We have went back several times since this visit and i recommend it to anyone near us 12/1/17 its been almost a year since my first time trying sushi yee. My mom absolutely loves the onion soup and we go by almost weekly to get her several cups. I still love the combos they have where i can get 3 rolls, a salad and miso soup, My favorite meal is the Sushi and Sashimi Combo 6 pcs sushi, 10 pcs sashimi and 1 California roll or tuna roll. The ginger sauce they give you for your salad is really good too

Okay... So this place isn't far from home and the reviews drew us in. We came in and grabbed and menu. This place is set up as a to go spot but there are tables. However, you order at the counter and service isn't provided. The prices are that of a full service sushi restaurant. Yet the experience, ambiance and service is removed. Everything is served in aluminum to go dishes whether you dine in or take out. Strange. I'd also like to point out that a place that clearly advertises more than one dish containing Escolar... It's best to be cautious. Escolar isn't fit for raw consumption for most and sometimes is disguised as white tuna. Google the issue... If you're a lover of sushi you know this is bad news. We did get a tempura appetizer and the Spicy Tuna bowl to go. They were both prepared on the spot and packaged up we all we needed to eat (in the car hence no photos.) The tempura batter is a little too thick and overpowering for the veggies inside. The Spicy Tuna bowl was quite surprisingly good. The temperature was nice a cold. Crisp cucumber strips on the bottom. A mound of spicy tuna topped with fresh avocado and drizzled with spicy sauce and sticky soy. I shared with my husband who also agreed it was good. I would certainly go back for this. The sushi is made fresh ( I watched him prepare another couples food as we waited.) and the place is clean. The prices are that of a traditional sushi spot. However, with different items to check out that I have not seen in other places. Just please educate yourself on Escolar. This is a huge turn off and if I return I will make sure none of that ends up in my order.

    Lunch special

Five stars for a cheap, quality sushi lunch. For $9.95, I got 3 rolls, a side salad, and miso soup. The soup was pretty good, but the salad was just lettuce and ginger dressing so it was lacking a little. I got THREE rolls for this lunch special- Alaskan, shrimp tempura, and salmon rolls. They were good sizes, and contained a decent amount of fish. Each roll was very tasty, and well worth the price tag! The shop itself is a little hard to find, tucked away next to a publix. There were only 4 tables inside, and the employees could've afforded to be nicer, but the food was great!

Very pleased with my lunch combo spicy tuna and philly roll for an awesome price!

The vegetables were spread mixed with the shrimp and chicken. The sauce was very tangy and not very hibachi, more like a sweet glade. It also came out very quick, it was warm, but not hot. My friend ordered two sushi rolls but they were over cooked and too crunchy. She could hit them with the chopsticks and hear how hard they were. I completed the survey or the free holiday roll. Mine too was over cooked. So my friend asked I she could get something else. When they brought out the shrimp fried rice, she took a few bites and didn't like it either. Neither dish was what we expected and I don't remember coming here and the food wasn't good. Instead of taking the dishes of she didn't enjoy, the owner went back and forth about paying for the supplies he used to cook the meal. I've never been somewhere and the restaurant still charged for an uneaten meal. As a courtesy, he said he didn't charge her for the rice. Out of all the places we could go, I won't be back and it reminded me what I hadn't been here in awhile. Do better and stop frying the sushi so hard. There we're only five people in the restaurant , no need to rush or give leftovers.

We decided to come here the other day on a whim since the sushi places around us were closed (oddly for a Tuesday). The ambience still feels nice! The food is good but the prices have increased since we've last been. I don't blame them since inflation and all. The service could be better. The waitress that we had was polite and sweet, but a little slow on getting our checks, checking us out, and checking up on us at times. The man who checked up on us and refilled our drinks was the real MVP. Here's what we had: Shrimp tempura roll: 7/10- It was good! I wanted to add cream cheese but they charge $1 to add cream cheese! That's so pricey! for a smidge of cream cheese! Now you might think $1 is nothing but I can literally buy a block of cream cheese for $2.50 at the store. No biggie, the roll was still pretty decent. I didn't like that it wasn't cut all the way so some of the rolls stuck to each other. So I was struggling to pull the rolls apart. It had cucumber in it but the breading was thicker than the shrimp. Lobster tempura roll: 9/10 - I enjoyed this roll! It was so good! The lobster pieces were a really good size for the price! I wanted to add daikon to the roll but again, they wanted to charge me to swap out an ingredient. I opted out of it so I had it how it was. I think it had kani salad in it, lobster tempura, avocado, masago, and cucumber. It was a good size but only had 6 pieces of it. Wished they must made it the standard 8 pieces for the roll but regardless, I enjoyed this roll. Chirashi: 8/10 - my husband had this and he loved it! It had an assortment of raw fish and some cooked items like tamago (egg) and imitation crab on top of a bed of rice and some daikon radishes on the side. The portion was good for the amount of food that you get. You also get a soup and salad with this. The salad was just pieces of ice berg lettuce drowned in ginger dressing (you can choose ranch instead if you want). The salad looked like soup to be honest with the amount of dressing on it. The miso soup was okay from what my husband said. Cheese wontons/rangoons: 5/10 - I love eating cheese rangoons and these were a disappointment. They were not perfectly golden and crispy, but a little bit pale for my liking and tasted like nothing. There was a good amount of filling and imitation crab inside but it was nothing special. The chili sauce made it a little better but I wouldn't get this again. Overall, I would probably stop by again if I was in the area but not go out of my way. The food is good, but some items are hits or misses on the portion size and price point.
