So this place is right across the street from where I work so I decided to check it out. When you first walk in, it feels really empty and dark. It looks like a place that wouldn't be that great at first. When I was looking up past reviews it said that it was an AYCE place BUT it is NOT! We decided to order the 5 rolls we had intended to order anyways. The waitress did question us if we were going to finish it... (which obviously my coworker and I did!). We were absolutely amazed at how delicious each of the rolls were. It was so delicious! And we were completely full and it was cheaper than I would of thought! Great sushi!! Seems to be better than what I remember last time here. I had the yakisoba that was great too!!!

I went to Sushi Yukiya to meet up with an old friend, and was unfortunately disappointed by their service and food. It is located pretty close to the freeway and is part of a pretty good shopping center, which includes Ulta, Barnes & Noble, Red Lobster, LA Fitness, etc. Growing up in Oceanside, I remember Hana (it's previous name) being one of the places to have their birthday dinners and have had so many fond memories, so I am disappointed at what it's become. I ordered a miso soup and the homeless roll, which was really poorly executed. The miso soup here was served cold, and the homeless roll was inconsistent - some was a full sushi roll while others had missing crab meat and rice. Maybe they were attempting a more elevated take on the homeless roll? If they were, then I'd prefer the traditional type. We were done w our food and after we paid, we started to talk more and catch up. The waiter kept asking if we wanted to order but we were asked to leave since there were other patrons waiting but saw the place was not busy, and there were other available tables. It was like an immediate, "eat your food and then leave!" As we were leaving, a table next to us offered for us to join them since they also thought it was rude of them to ask us to leave as well. There's a ton of sushi houses around north county, I've been to so many. Sushi Yukiya is many times our go-to. It's a large restaurant (with tall ceilings) and super comfortable to sit and eat. Many sushi houses are small and cramped. During the pandemic, I've felt so much more comfortable coming here because of the roomy atmosphere. Plus, when others have long wait times, we'll end up here and walk right in. The staff is always super friendly and accommodating as well. Their sushi is wonderfully fresh and melts in your mouth. They give good portions and sometimes even hand out specialties on the house. I love getting the Spicy Tuna Hand Roll w/ soy paper - there's a good amount of tuna in here and is always so fresh. But basically, any of their rolls are wonderful. I love supporting our local restaurants - try this one out if you haven't before. You won't be disappointed. read more

Excellent hidden gem! After driving by this place a few times, I decided to give it a try. I ordered the two-piece tuna, mixed tempura, and house salad. I also asked them for a recommendation for a good small sake that was reasonably priced, and the manager recommended the Funaguchi, which comes in a can! It was absolutely delicious and packs quite the punch, so I couldn't finish every last drop, but would definitely get it again. Now for the food! While most sushi restaurants give you the two-piece tuna with tons of rice filler, here is the opposite! The sushi chef Koji gave me two of the biggest pieces of fish I've ever gotten for a two-piece order and I actually asked for a little bit more rice with it! It was delicious. The little dish of ginger & wasabi also came with their house-made pickles, which are so good (forgot to take a picture of this & the sushi before I started eating it). The house salad was huge and had that delicious ginger dressing and also those delicious pickles on top. The tempura was so fresh and piping hot, there was a wide variety of vegetables, and you actually get three pieces of shrimp. It was cooked to perfection! I was so surprised that this is one of the best sushi places I've been to! It's definitely a hidden gem and I highly recommend you go and check it out! read more

What a gem! Food was fresh, chilled as sashimi should be, with generous cuts. We ordered salmon, albacore, and tuna sashimi, samurai, dragon, dynamite rolls, ramen, and mixed tempura. Have been to many places around Oceanside and this one is by far the best. Their Unagi is incredible!! They give you massive pieces of eel that are super flavorful and absolutely worth it. Would also absolutely recommend the Sushi Bento Box. It's just a ton of good quality food for the price. It's also enough to share between two people. Will keep coming back. read more

Do not eat here if you hate flavor. The bad reviews are written by people who wouldn't know good food if it hit them in the face. Everything here is absolutely amazing. The bentos are our favorite and we get them almost every week now. Owner is extremely nice and soft spoken and will help you out with recommendations. We love that the bento menu changes about once a month and we find new things to love. The salmon rib is my absolute favorite, but I tried the salmon kama this time around and it was absolutely delicious too. Spouse got the chicken katsu which was gorgeous on it's own, but the dipping sauce was lovely too. Bento comes with a miso soup (amazing), salad, white rice, about 2 pieces of protein (salmon, chicken, etc), 3 gyoza and 4 california rolls. Food, service, atmosphere all bad. I remember coming here years ago before it changed ownership and chef. Please please please read the 1 star reviews - no idea where the 5 stars are coming from. Should have been warned when the store was empty, people are using their wallets to give this place a 1-star by not coming! We ordered two appetizers and 4 rolls and we left 1 entire appetizer and almost 3 complete rolls, eating the one that was the most edible. The tuna and yellowtail had such a strong fish smell that every part of our human instinct told us not to ingest it. As for the service, she was nice enough but for the entire two tables that were occupied, she seemed very annoyed and rushed. Almost as quickly as the food was set down in front of us, we left. They both came with miso soup, small salad, 4 piece California roll and 3 gyoza. The steak was soft and tender, perfectly cooked. The orange chicken tasted authentic and not overly sweet. Amazing customer service! Came here after the gym to grab some rolls with my boyfriend. We tried the "protein roll" and it was filled with fresh fish- very delicious and perfect for after gym! Our other rolls were just as good. The customer service here cannot be beat. One of the employees (possibly the owner) came around to each table and was super personable and asked how our meal was. ****I ordered through doordash**** Do you like eating sushi with a spoon? I don't. Do you like getting sick almost immediately after finishing this ineffable crap? I don't. If you do, then this is the place for you. Rolls fell apart immediately (I am Japanese and I very clearly know how to use chopsticks) I ended up getting a spoon, not a fork, a freaking spoon. Someone needs to train these people how to roll correctly. As for the tolls I got the fire fire and the ceviche. They tested merely okay. About half way through both of the rolls my stomach started turning. And out it went, they legit made me sick IMMEDIATELY. I did not finish either of them. I will NEVER eat there or order take out. This place was better when I first moved here. I ordered calamari and got octopus. The quality of the sushi has suffered.

First time ordering takeout/delivery here. I decided to order takeout from this restaurant as the menu had jjamppong and jja jang myun (Korean style) listed. There aren't many restaurants with such options nearby here, so was pretty intrigued. I didn't feel like dining in, so placed an order via Door Dash. I tend to avoid restaurants that serve multiethnic foods, but this one just felt different. I didn't expect the noodles to taste perfectly as I was ordering the items as takeout. When the food arrived, there was an additional salmon head dish that I did not order. Perhaps it was a free service item? Regardless, the generous gesture was appreciated! The noodles were dry, but we managed to add some moisture to them at home. But again, that's what happens when you order takeout. The jja jang myun was a bit on the sweeter side, but it was pretty delicious overall. I'm sure the dish would taste better had I dined in and it was served nice and fresh. The jjamppong wasn't bad either. It wasn't very spicy either. I usually can't tolerate spicy foods, but the jjamppong was tolerable. My husband loved it and he usually isn't one to go crazy about jjamppong. The chicken karaage and rolls were pretty good too. The toro roll was definitely on the fishier side, but my husband loved it. Overall, good food, but it was a bit on the pricier side. I guess it equates to gas money spent if I were to drive up north to Garden Grove for some legit jja jang myun/jjamppong. I really need to pay attention because I keep ordering from here but don't really care for their food. It's like when you're in a hurry and search sushi and just pick one close n forget oh yea lol. I got the fried rice, not recommended unless you prefer that plan non seasoned rice with a lack of soy. It's literally white rice and it should be brown. The two times I have gotten sushi, the first time it was nothing against the place just didn't like my roll that I got. The other time I did like the roll but they are kind of expensive compared to other places. It might just be me but it also seems like you get less pieces as well. read more

We used to go here all the time when this was Hana Sushi, and then went once a while ago when it changed to Yukiya. I remember not being super excited about it before, for vague reasons I couldn't remember so when my husband and I wanted to go out for sushi last night, good reviews and photos convinced me to try it again. I got a bad feeling when we walked in at 6:30 to an almost empty dining room. But I figured it was a Tuesday so that I could overlook. But then a bunch of little things added up to convince me never to try this place again. Bits of wrappers/trash dotted the floor on the way to our booth. I sat on a vinyl seat that had been duct taped together. There was just a lot of clutter stacked everywhere. Our menu was old and kind of dirty. The server was abrupt and unfriendly. There were fruit flies floating around our table. But all of these things above I've encountered before and even they didn't bother me too much, because the food made up for it. We ordered: -Veggie tempura- pretty good. Fresh. Except the zucchini tasted like dirt for some reason? -Agedashi tofu- good, fresh. Tempura batter rather than the usual light cornstarch coating. -Ceviche roll- this was supposed to be topped with "Pico de gallo" but that's not really what it was. It was just onions, jalapeños and some type of bell pepper, and cilantro, and the roll was so bathed in liquid that it was falling apart as the server set it down. I asked for spicy mayo to be added to the roll as I ordered, and the server was annoyed or confused and ended up just bringing me a tiny side container. -Crunchy roll- good krab and fresh shrimp tempura inside, but small, sloppy loose roll. The larger pieces of crunch were kind of stale. -spicy tuna roll- tasted good, but super small and really sloppy. Presentation was not good, dipping sauces for tempura/tofu came in little plastic take out containers (so small portions) and felt cheap for the price we paid. Tofu was a couple dollars more than usual, $8 instead of $6. Prices have gone up everywhere though so I could overlook that individually. As we paid our bill an overwhelming fish odor wafted through the restaurant, as if they had just taken out a bad piece of fish? Not a great feeling after we just ate our food, and made us wonder if we'd be suffering later. The pricing isn't any different from nicer sushi places and overall I just got a cheap, messy corner cutting vibe here. Obviously we won't be back. Bummer! read more

This is a big restaurant and can get busy some nights. It is nice for the cooked items. The raw fish ingredients are pretty good too. Not spectacular. The rolls are decent. Not too much rice to make the rolls which I like. However, the quality of the sushi rice is not top notch. The rice is a bit mushy. Sometimes, it is busy that they run out of Hamachi Kama. Knocked off a star. Luckily, the Saba Shioyaki bento is a good option if this happens. Saba served this style is uncommon to find in other Japanese restaurants in San Diego. Not as "meaty" as Hamachi. Customer service is a hit and miss though. Knocked off a star for that too. Some worthy notes: Big shot roll: two types of tuna drizzled in a oniony-spicy sauce. Poke roll: tuna and cilantro go well together. I usually ask for the ponzu sauce on the side because I do not like the combo of cilantro and ponzu together. read more
