Place is very good. I think the AYCE is a little over priced. But maybe I'm just remembering older days when AYCE sushi was $25. $50 here is a high price and $70 for premium. You get 90 minutes and have ordering limits, which is fine. The sushi is high quality. Maybe too much rice. Maybe that's a tactic to fill you up faster. We went with our young daughter and they couldn't accommodate making a tekka maki roll (just basic tuna, rice, seaweed) but have a version of it with spicy sriracha in it. We just wanted no spicy sauce. The server told us the kitchen couldn't do it because they were too busy - even though leaving out sriracha I don't think takes more time, and we were 1 of 4 tables dining. I'm not sure the server understood our request. It's nice to see this place in Oceanside, we need more in this area. I'm hopeful it stays but with the price being what it is - I'm not positive. I should have paid more attention to the 1-2 stars reviews! Here are the reasons why I gave it one star.... Service: the servers were nice, but service was very slow. There were only 2 groups of people in the whole entire restaurant, but water and food took some time to come out. Food: the food with seasoning like unagi sushi and miso soup were so salty! The miso soup had 2 pieces of tofu and no seaweed in it. The flat iron steak skewers were overcooked. The only meat dish that was good was the Korean bbq ribs. The fish was pretty fresh, but the rice, OMG So Much Rice! This ayce sushi restaurant has the most amount of rice compared to all the other ones I've been to. And I ordered bluefin tuna, but look at the picture! Does that look like bluefin tuna to you? My family said it looked like tuna sushi from a Chinese buffet lol. This restaurant was a let down for us. Service was good and our server was friendly. Parking lot is very high and parking is free. Establishment is clean and orderly, although some booths have ripped seats patched with tape. Food quality was a disappointment for the price point of $45/ayce. The miso soup came out cold and flavorless. Baked mussels tasted like they were canned. The mussels were not attached to the shell and once we removed the mound of imitation crab realized that they were cut into small chunks. All of the sushi was pretty bland, the hand rolls had a lot of rice, small amount of protein (excluding the salmon hand roll). I'll start off by saying for an AYCE place- the menu didn't have too many options, and the day I went there were a couple things they were out of. The food I was able to try were decent. Nothing that really stood out to me. Now, on to what made the experience so horrible... There was an older asian lady running the restaurant. Not sure if she owns it or was just managing, but either way she was TERRIBLE. You can only order a certain amount of items at a time, the portions are tiny, you're timed, AND apparently you can ONLY order from HER. So we finished our first 2 rounds, the lady passed by us multiple times and even stood by our table! Didn't bother asking us if we wanted to order more, even ignored us when we tried to get her attention. Literally 10 minutes pass, so we flagged down another guy. Young guy who was more than willing to help us out. He took our order, came back to tell us that he got introuble and had to cancel our order. That lady came back right after to take our order, and then took forever for the next couple rounds. She came by really quick when it came to collecting our money though. All of the food is very fresh. The Korean bulgogi udon was decent, but a good option for cooked food and kids. The galbi ribs were better, very tender, with tasty stir-fried veggies. Spider roll and fried crab were delicious. The cooked rolls are very filling, so keep that in mind for AYCE - the Dragon roll was very rich and savory, but also very good! We came here for Mother's Day as I was craving sushi. We did the Ayce. We started off with yakisoba, fried rice, and a bunch of nigiri. The yakisoba and fried rice were not to our liking. The yakisoba was dried and the fried rice was mushy. We also got the volcano which had a chipotle flavor to it so it was kind of different. We did enjoy the nigiri where the fish wasn't the best or the freshest but it was still good and enjoyable. One of the bigger downside is the wait for our food. When we put in the second order of Ayce.. we waited a very long time before food came out. To the point where we just didn't even want to get a third order in. However, they were giving out a slice of cake for Mother's Day so that was a treat for our kids. The ambiance was spacious and nice. It was a little warm and not enough air flow so it felt kind of stuffy inside the area we were in. Probably the best ayce sushi in Oceanside. The fish is always fresh and everything I've had has been really good. My favorite part is that the AYCE includes robatayaki too, which you don't really see at other sushi places. It makes it feel like you're getting way more than just unlimited rolls. It was good. Everything tasted fresh. I have not been to an ayce sushi place before but I hadn't seen any with as much variety being able to order basically anything in the menu. When we arrived we were given the à la carte menu and I was confused because I haven't seen a photo of that here. One of the workers seemed to notice and brought us over the ayce menu. For $50 we tried to eat our moneys worth. We figured the 3 of us would cost about $120 for à la carte so 30 bucks more to try some of everything seemed like the better deal. We definitely won't be back for ayce but we'll probably be back and just order our favorites. You can only order 2 items per person at a time. We ended up ordering 18 items at the end. The best was the black dragon roll, and the robatayaki: filet + pineapple and the flat iron steak. The crunch shrimp roll, gyoza and tuna crispy rice were also pretty good. Would pass on the Korean bbq ribs - had some inedible bits in it. Didn't seem as good quality as the fish was. The bao bun was supposed to be spam but I'm pretty sure it was pork belly because it did not have the texture of spam. So I would not get either one of those again personally. Service was pretty slow. It says 90 min time limit and while it's great that they aren't super strict especially given the slow service, it was a little annoying that we got there at 1230 and had an appointment at 230 that we were late to because we had to ask for the check at 2 and don't get it for like 10-15 min. read more

I ordered for delivery and only 1 item was correct. The robata meatballs were great! I feel like the chef that created the menu is part of the original Blue Ocean/Love Boat group because it tasted the same. The robata chicken was not cooked so I couldn't eat it and had to spit out the bite I tried. It was also missing the green onion garnish. The bakka frost sushi was ok but I couldn't taste the vinegar in the rice. We also got the Gossip Girl roll and the crunchy part on top was not crunchy and it did not have the spicy aioli. This location was formerly known as Capazollis, followed by another Italian restaurant, Fratelli's, for a short period of time. ​ Food Quality & Service ​The food quality and presentation were definitely the high point. ​Food quality: The quality and presentation were good, with decent portion sizes, making the meal enjoyable once it arrived. ​Service Issues: The service was noticeably slow, which detracted from the all-you-can-eat experience. There were also mix-ups; they sent food we didn't order a few times, requiring us to clarify the correct items multiple times. ​ Ambience & Seating ​I recommend opting for the outdoor seating or the regular tables. The high top tables and chairs felt uncomfortable for me. The indoor seating towards the backroom of the restaurant was unfortunately a miss for us. The atmosphere felt uncomfortable due to poor air circulation, making it stuffy and not ideal for a relaxing meal. ​ Pricing Structure (All-You-Can-Eat) ​The restaurant offers an all-you-can-eat format, and the pricing has a few variations: ​Lunch (Mon-Thurs): $34.99 (Note on menu: no longer available) ​Dinner: origanally $44.99. Omakase was an additional $15. Today, October 17, 2025 was a soft opening of this brand new all you can eat elevated sushi restaurant. After speaking with the staff, I found out that the same MasterChef that brought Love Boat Sushi to Oceanside and Blue Ocean to Carlsbad, is in charge of bringing this unique experience to us. Robata-X Sushi & Izakaya provides a premium sushi dining experience with high-quality ingredients, the option for à la cart, an appetizer menu and their best value is All-You-Can-Eat. When it comes to dining-in options, Robata-X has plenty of seating inside, with high-tables and booths available and they even extended the dining area to an outdoor patio and the front of the restaurant as well. Their service still has room for improvement and I feel that they may need to hire more staff during the day, but they seem to have enough for the evenings and weekend. The service staff are friendly and helpful, but their overall menu system needs a lot of improvement. Currently, they have an extensive menu with over 50+ items and there's no descriptions of the individual items or photos either. So far, everything looks great and they will have a small cooler upfront for sushi orders to go. For sushi rolls, I enjoyed the Camp Pendleton, Imperial Beach, Torrey Pines & Robata-X Toro. I also liked the Korean BBQ ribs & the crispy eggplant in a sweet soy glaze. The only dish I really didn't care for was their chicken karaage, which was more like Panda Express Orange Chicken without the sauce. But I'm not too judgmental, because their specialty is seafood and NOT chicken. I also don't prefer their music playlist of choice. It's currently a station with cover songs of the 80's & 90's playing rather loud and while I LOVE that genre of music, I would rather some gentle Japanese ambiance vibes. Overall, I'm very happy with their opening and although I know they're improving, they're off to a great start and have a fantastic concept! This is one of those spots where you really want them to do well, but they desperately need more patrons and staff to make it happen. I tried really hard to support this local restaurant but I cannot in good faith recommend it, nor will I be going back. To preface, I've been 7 times since they opened. The food is pretty good. Fish quality tends to be a bit on the higher end of AYCE, but not anything luxurious or life changing. However, the menu choices continue to get smaller and smaller. They've also started to implement more and more limits on the key items. i.e. King Salmon Nigiri, Eel nigiri, bluefin nigiri. They removed one of my favorite items which was the scallop and bacon yakitori. Now lets move on to the real reason I will not be back. The service. They limit you to two items per person, per round. Doesn't matter if that's a large appetizer, or if you order two orders of nigiri. Then when it comes time to place your next order because you finished your 4 pieces of sushi in 60 seconds, they're nowhere to be found. And if you try and order your next round when the round you ordered just arrived? Nope. Gotta eat it first. Additionally, drinks are NEVER refilled unless you ask. Even water. God is that frustrating. If you get one of the younger servers, you're in luck. They're cheerful and happy to be there. But if you happen to get one of the older asian managers? Good luck, they're abysmally slow. I brought my inlaws there for a birthday and we waited 45 minutes for an order that was purely nigiri. And if you order something off the yakitori menu, prepare for a 30 to 45 minute wait. The long story short is they're falling into the same pitfall as other failed AYCE sushi restaurants. Really the only AYCE sushi anywhere nearby. The old KPFM/Fratelli's used to get a ton of traffic, but the change in demographic and the shift of city center focus to the coast the shops along Mission have taken a hit over the last 2 decades due to sprawl and development. The ambiance is closer to Blue Ocean and the decor is understated. The service is hit or miss. I've found that depending on what you order is how you are treated. When ordering AYCE the waiters seem to take less time explaining things, but when it's a la cart or normal dinner style service. Weird. Prices are varied depending on what you want, but the AYCE levels are generous becuase they aren't really limiting quantity and aren't deliberately slow to make, no time limit making you feel rushed. I've had great conversations over dinner rather than talking in between waves of food. Despite Sushi being in the name I actually quite liked the robata & izakaya aspect as they have wagyu. The rolls are not overly sauced and the flavors are bold. There are even omakase offerings. The prices are pretty open and not much in the way of hidden costs/offerings. The one time order isn't really enforced if your just eating, but when people try to maximize and take advantage of their generous offerings rather than eat what they want to eat they'll enforce. Their softshell crab, crab cakes and calamari were all fantastic. The salmon kama is fatty and charred perfectly. Poke lovers salad was nice and chunky. All of their House rolls were stand alone excellent and their Signature rolls were thoughtful. They were a litlte rushed as at the end some didn't seal as well as others. Their nigiri offerings are fantastic (masago/quail eggs, king salmon, bluefun. They have a baked fatty tuna roll that is melt melt in your mouth. Unless you want specific items the omakase isn't probably worth the already great value of the regular AYCE menu. Maine lobster, ankimo, bluefin toro. Small bites like the braised pork belly bao and the shrimp shumai and the spicy tuna crispy rice were just average. Side notes, they keep it on the colder side, not much was renovated in the bathrooms and they have very quite music. The menu is quite large and the quality is worth it.
