Came here on a Wednesday night for dinner on the way to San Francisco with a craving for Japanese food. So I found this restaurant on Yelp and we decided to try it out. What we ordered: -Chicken Udon -O.M.G. Roll -California Roll -Mackerel Dinner -Katsu Donburi How it tasted: The rolls were super fresh and pack some major flavor. Even a simple California Roll, which some places seem to miss the mark on. I had ordered the donburi and it was delicious. The house sauce was sweet/savory and it was a very generous portion. I also tasted the mackerel dinner which tasted like it just came out of the sea, in a good way :P They served us edamame, salad/miso soup with the dinners which were actually just okay. Overall Experience: It was great, especially if you're in the mood for Japanese food. The service was very polite and attentive; not quite sure if it would be the same if they were busy. This spot was pretty good. We started with the New style sashimi and California Seafood Salad. Loved the flavor of sashimi and really enjoyed the dressing from the salad. We also orderes a side of rice for my one year old and they brought it to her on a cute kiddy plate. Salmon was like butter. But then I was disrespected with my chicken Katsu bento. It was burnt. Not only burnt but looked like it was burnt and re-battered to hide the burnt. I don't know if this place is under new management we haven't eaten here for over a year. It was fine last year but unfortunately this time our food was pretty much inedible. The 1 star is for the service not the food. Which will make sense if you read on. Placed an order for our office to be delivered at 1145. We got a text saying it got delayed to 1215. Ok. Then another saying delayed to 1247. Since our lunch hour ends at 1, I called the delivery service first. They checked and said the restaurant says food wouldn't be ready til 1230 that's why the delay. So I called the restaurant and let them know what was going on to see if anything could be done. The lady was extremely rude and said it was not her problem and to call the delivery people and immediately hung up. Didnt even get a chance to tell her I already called the delivery people. She didn't check on the order or ask my name or anything to see what was going on with our order. Don't care if the food is good. Will never eat here again and will tell anyone who comes to our medical office the same. Avoid because of the customer service!!! read more

I meet my wife here for lunch sometimes. Good place, quality food. Fresh Sushi, tasty Korean ribs. I have also had the udon noodles with chicken and veggies, very good. The free edamame is nice, but cold mushy and needing salt. That's it though, great place. Great service. The last 2 times we came here for lunch they changed staff, for the worst. My wife ordered a cooked dragon roll, but the waitress didn't speak English well and brought her raw. It was frustrating trying to explain it to her because my wife and I forgot how to speak Chinese. I'm giving 3 stars which I feel is extremely generous and it's mostly because I like their gyoza. The service, however, leaves much to be desired. It was busy when we went; we were a party of 4 and sat at the table closest to the door. No big deal. Then we weren't acknowledged again for 20 minutes or more. We asked the hostess for help after a while and she just walked away from us. We asked the waiter to help us and he eventually got to us. I understand if you're busy and it takes some time to get to the table but at least acknowledge waiting customers and don't completely ignore them. There are at least two really good sushi places in Livermore. My husband suggested that we try this place because someone recommended them on Love Livermore Facebook group. It was a big disappointment; both the service and the food were bad. I only ate because I was very hungry. We ordered three sushi rolls; all tasted the same: salty with an aftertaste of burnt oil! We ordered hot sake, which they brought immediately. We waited very long for the sushi rolls. By the time our sushi was ready, the sake was cold. They forgot small plates, and we waited another 10 minutes for the plates. Then, they realized they forgot soy sauce and water. We reminded them four times about water! This place has gradually gone downhill. We came to give it one more try and what a mistake. The tempura shrimps were so small you could swallow in one bite. They were also soggy instead of crispy and so were the tempura vegetables. The sashimi and nigri were of poor quality fish. The tuna had no flavor at all. The saba was super fishy. Service was bad. I have been going to sushi zone since they first opened years and years ago and every single time I go there I get nothing but excellence. My parents and I have been frequenting this lovely restaurant at least once a month if not more for the past eight years or so. We have not only been satisfied with the food but with the amazing staff that works there including Donna and Sean, And many others. I came here during a work day for lunch and the service was extremely slow. We had to remind the waiter to bring us our waters 2x and we didn't even get it until 15 minutes after sitting down. The free miso soup and salad that came with our meals also took forever. I think the staff and management were just badly organized because it wasn't too crowded, but they had a hard time keeping up with every table. On the bright side, the food was actually higher quality than expected. I had the beef teriyaki and fish Katsu, which were both delicious. This is my absolute favorite sushi place, so it has to be my first yelp rating. The service is always great, they're always so happy and upbeet when I walk in. They get me seated and eating fresh complimentary edamame right away. I always go for lunch before 2:30pm, but only because the prices are cheaper. The portions have seemed to be the same size for lunch and dinner. A lunch bento box for two items is $10 plus tax, which is amazing for the portions you get. You also get soup and salad as well. I aalmost never finish! I usually get california rolls and teriyaki chicken, although we've tried a wide variety if sushi platters and they've all been super fresh and taste AMAZING. One complaint I would have, would be that sometimes they premake the california rolls and the avacado will oxidate and not be as fresh. Although I requested new rolls, and they were happy to replace them. 10/10 sushi zone you make me so happy read more

just an update to my original review. As Chris and a few others have mentioned the quality and service has dropped recently. I dont eat here as much as I used to. One of the last straws was when i got some otoro that tasted old and stale. At 10 bucks for 2 pieces thats just unacceptable. The other big issue though is the service. Most of the friendly staff i used to see a lot in there seems to be gone. Last time i was their the waitress was very bisque and clueless. I tried to inquire as to what brand the plum wine was and she had no clue. Even when she went to go check she still somehow couldn't figure it out. I was there with a large party and one of our members didn't get his food untill most of us were almost complete with ours. Only after we asked what was going on did she realize she had forgo to to put the order in! This went from a great place with high quality fish and great service to a mediocre place with poor service =( read more

Came here for lunch today and was wowed by the fair prices and good portions for their lunch bentos. A three item bento for $11.95 that comes with soup and salad is a great deal in my opinion. The interior is well lit, nicely decorated, and is very clean altogether. Servers are courteous and helpful. When you've been on the road for 6 hours and the last meal you can remember having was McDonald's chicken nuggets, clearly getting sushi as a pit stop before you reach home sounds like the best idea in the entire freakin' world. I got a roll with spicy tuna inside and white tuna on the outside. The presentation was ridiculously well-thought out - the roll was so cute! I don't like to go get expensive sushi - as a college student, it's not really an option, so I've NEVER gotten such a well-decorated roll for that kind of price. Never. Not to mention that I could TASTE the freshness of the sushi. It was so great. So, so great. I always feel deprived of quality sushi - it's so hard to find for good prices and I'm seriously upset Livermore isn't closer to home. Anyway. My family friend got the tempura Udon noodles... Also extremely delicious. She's the type of girl that can find *something* to complain about when she eats out. But she literally wolfed that thing down so fast I didn't even know what happened to it. (Luckily I got a bite before she devoured it.) My other friend got a tempura rice bowl (?) of sorts. When you poured the tempura sauce into the rice and mixed it around in red pepper flakes (ask the waitress for a bottle), it was seriously one of the most simple and delicious combo of flavors I've had in a long time. This is probably totally biased because after being trapped inside a minivan talking to a hyperactive 6 year old for 6 hours... I feel like even Burger King would taste gourmet.
