We were seated in a cozy booth and our server took our drink orders. Pop music from the 90s/2000s blasted from the speakers but it created a fun ambiance! We ordered hot sake, Sapporo beer, chicken karaage, gyoza, yellowtail carpaccio, a chicken teriyaki bento box, tonkatsu ramen, and two different rolls (Baja and Bomb Diggity). Everything came out paced well and our server was awesome. We never went without and we were checked on plenty of times. Food was fantastic - the yellowtail tasted so fresh and the sushi rolls were "bomb diggity"!! Everyone enjoyed their meals and I wouldn't hesitate to return to try different items from their menu. There is literally something for everyone but the menu also isn't overwhelming. Parking was easy and plentiful on a Sunday afternoon. This was a 5-star meal for sure.

We ordered both the wagyu donburi and wagyu steak bites, and the meat was rich, tender, and literally melted in my mouth. The wagyu paired really well with the rice and each bite felt super indulgent. The Wagyu Sunshine was a nice contrast because the mango salsa added a refreshing citrusy brightness that helped balance the richness. We also ordered the Ginza sushi platter, which was beautifully presented with each nigiri coming on its own plate. The fish tasted fresh and buttery and made for a fun presentation. The chicken katsu was another solid dish -- crispy on the outside while still juicy inside. Also worth mentioning: they have a sushi roll deal where the second roll is 50% off, along with beer and sake specials which make it even better for groups. Overall, a great spot if you're craving sushi, wagyu, and izakaya-style food with plenty of options.

My appt was at 1:30pm and I got to Yashima around 1:40pm. I didn't realize they closed at 2pm but I needed my fix so went in anyway. Not one mention of the time and never rushed me for my order. I knew what I wanted already and ordered almost immediately, but didn't get my food until about 1:50pm. Everything was still cooked to order and tasted great (lunch special with salmon teriyaki, tempura and sushi + an extra order of tako). I eat pretty fast normally and finished right around 2pm. I asked for the check when the server was asking me if I wanted anything else and mentioned that I saw they closed at 2pm and wanted to get out of their way. She was very appreciative but never once made me feel rushed or like I stayed too long. Anyway, I really appreciate the extra level of service and professionalism. Pro tip: they have their own website for ordering takeout and delivery. Will have to try that soon.

We mentioned it was our first time and may we have sometime to look over the menu ? Ok and she left, she came back 30 seconds later, are you ready to order? NO the menu is huge and we need about 5 minutes please. One minute later she said OK what would you like to order ? My husband said, please can we have sometime to look over the menu I do not know yet. The waitress STOOD there staring at us waiting for us to decide what we want. My husband is on page 2 of the menu it is just so big you can't read it all in 30 seconds or one minute.! she wouldn't leave our friend. Finally looked at her and said just a few more minutes please and she just left.. she comes back and we asked for two separate checks before we ordered. I asked for my soup to go to the daughter and it came to me anyway I just gave it to the daughter instead.. the table area where I was sitting at was so sticky and dirty. It was gross one napkin and chopsticks. Never asked if we wanted more napkins or a fork or knife or anything else once we ordered, and our food was brought to us you never heard or seen her at our table again until we asked for our check & to go boxes as she was visiting customers at the sushi bar and very attentive to them. When everyone was finished with their meal and needed two takeout boxes, we asked her for them she said OK but she really was interested in the people sitting at the sushi bar and hugged on them and talked to them and we never got our takeout boxes so then we waited 20 minutes 25 minutes comes and my husband gets up and goes to the owner and says can we have two takeout boxes please? Tables weren't full, but yet people were standing and waiting to be seated. That made no sense.. I am not a fan of TV's on the wall's at a restaurant. Sports bar's OK but not at a restaurant specifically when there is NO Sound. If you are a local and you come to this restaurant often, then the female waitress will love you! If you're new to the restaurant, she'll stare at you and until you order food and then ignore you once your food is handed to you. We will Never be back? Never ever again you couldn't pay me to come back to this restaurant ..! Do I recommend this restaurant in Covina absolutely not no way know how not even if it was free.!!!!!
