This is a cute little hole in the wall for some traditional and classic Japanese sushi. It contains a small sushi bar area with few tables filled with wooden decor. We opted for a chirashi gold and a mix of various different nigiri sushi. The fish was really fresh but I prefer my rice less mushy and with a tad more vinegar. The staff was really nice even though they were under staff and asked us how everything was constantly. Parking in the front and rear.

I've been coming to Yashima since I was a little kid and it truly is a small hidden gem in Covina. I've always wanted to gatekeep this spot, but it truly is a spot that deserves recognition! The owner Sachiko is the sweetest lady ever and it hurts my heart that she is retiring and ownership is changing. But she has been here for about 40 years, so she deserves the retirement. The sushi and food is always such great quality and everything is truly super fresh. I love how they also offer plate combinations on their menu if you want to try a little bit of everything. I will say the place isn't your upscale sushi restaurant, but it hits the spot when it comes to the food. Don't expect anything fancy. It truly is known for the food quality sushi and community vibes. Gonna miss Sachiko!!!

After some 49 years running her own Sushi Restaurant- Sachiko is finally retiring. We will miss her and new ownership will take over . We've known her for more than 28 yrs and hubby from the time they opened up. One the BEST , fresh & Japanese owned sushi restaurant in the area. I highly recommend to you YASHIMA - check it out here in Covina on Rowland St. if you're in the area. Sushi Chef Hideo will be there to serve you the best of the best !

We've been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. If you're in the area and looking for authentic, consistently great sushi, this is the spot. The fish is always fresh, the food is delicious, and the service is fast and attentive. A true hidden gem in Covina!

    Must order "garlicky edamame"

We happened to be in Covina area and decided to try Yoshima.. Wow, I had such a wonderful experience at this charming little spot! The food was definitely the highlight -- every dish was packed with flavor and made with obvious care. The garlic edamame was incredibly tasty, perfectly seasoned and impossible to stop snacking on. The chicken yakitori was another standout: juicy, tender, very well marinated and grilled just right. I also loved the cucumber salad, which was light, refreshing, and the perfect balance to the yakitori. The atmosphere added so much to the meal. The décor is adorably authentic, giving off the cozy feel of a true Japanese mom-and-pop restaurant. It's warm, inviting, and full of character. And the service was very warm and very quick. If you are in the area, you definitely want to try Yoshima!! Its such a delightful place with delicious food and a genuine vibe -- definitely worth a visit and revisit again.

I've been coming here for over 15 years and haven't lived in the area for awhile. So, I don't visit as much as I use too. Lemme tell you, the menus the same, the food is fresh, consistent and delicious. Always, excellent service and the bartender Hideo has been here since the beginning. He is a master at his craft. Small hole in the wall. For groups maybe 4 max. It's a nice place, but small. Nothing fancy about it. As I come here for the awesome service amd excellent sushi along w/ a bottle of Asahi and some Saki. I highly recommend and take care of the staff thanks!

This place was recommended to us by a customer at a different sushi place. He said this is the best sushi place by far and we decided to drive almost an hour to try it out. The interior was very simple and basic, sushi and rolls were super plain and nothing fancy. Would I ever go back? No Service was ok, not the best

If you're not a regular here be prepared to wait and be overlooked. My daughter and I ordered 3 rolls to share and the garlic edamame as an appetizer. We waited about 25 minutes for the first roll to come out followed by the edamame. Please note it was only us 2 plus another couple. About 45 minutes into our dinner we're still waiting for the other rolls and then the crowd starts rolling in. We were forgotten about and it wasn't until 1hr in that I finally had to get up to ask for more water and to order a hand roll to go.

The uni is amazing!!! Worth the market place price. We came as a party of 4, and arrived at a very unassuming quiet strip mall. We were a bit concerned when we parked in the back. (Lots of parking andn street parking by the way). When we walked in, it seemed pleasant and the place was popping. We got a very small menu, but our eyes were bigger than our stomach and we ordered way more than we could finish. Chirashi bowl was delicious, the nigiri was soft, the cut rolls were not rolled too tight, but flavor was there. I wish the rolls were packed a little more tightly because some of the innards fell apart after picking it up and dipping it. The tempura was nicely fried. The combo I got was teriyaki chicken along with a dynamite scallop. I would prob pass on the scallop, as it was mostly zucchinis and onions. It came with salad, soup and Mac salad. Overall I would definitely come back to get the nigiri options and cut rolls.

Best lunch value anywhere. The sushi is so fresh. This is a definite place to stop and grab a bite. If you have not been, be sure to try it for lunch or dinner. Its small so if you come for dinner there maybe a wait but worth it

My 20+ year love affair with Yashima continues! Every time I fly home to see family, we come here. We get the same things and it's always as good and fresh as the last time, if not better somehow. They always remember us, even where I went to college and where I'm living now even though I sometimes go years without seeing them. Just a truly special place and one I look forward to visiting whenever a SoCal trip is in my future. The sushi quality can not be beat.

    Still, great presentation

However, our waiter immediately discouraged me from ordering the Tacos Gobernadorbecaise they don't sell alacart, which was disappointing. The taquitos plate was heavily smothered with no beanswith no flaver, which overpowered the different protein flavors and made the dish taste somewhat bland. A side of guacamole or crema would have helped balance the flavors and improve the overall presentation. My daughter ordered the enchilada plate, and to our surprise, it didn't come with beans and rice. This was the first time we've ever been served enchiladas without those traditional sides. The price difference to add them was less than $1, so it was difficult to understand why they weren't included. Oh, and one of the TVs showing the soccer game was about 15 minutes behind the others. LOL. Window blinds were off balance and paper material making the place feel cheap. It's a shame because the issues I mentioned seem relatively easy to fix. Addressing them would go a long way toward improving the overall dining experience. I do admit that the other dishes we tried had very good flavor and I may come and try again in a few months... Ambiance needs improvement, it feels like a cenaduria.. eat and leave. But then again I was there at 11am

Just be sure not to arrive too hungry because we don't want yall to be hangry! If you're looking to avoid the wait, I'd recommend visiting on a weekday, especially around 2 pm or 3 pm. The service was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The atmosphere had a welcoming vibe that reminded me of being in Thailand, which added to the overall experience. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal. As for the food, their fish and chips are hands down the best I've had. The portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and every bite was worth it. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality, service, and overall experience make it well worth the splurge. I'll definitely be coming back with my gf!

Some items were delicious; others were lacking in flavor or had an "unusual" taste. The dining area is a decent size, it was clean, and there is plenty of parking in the shopping center's lot. FOOD: We ordered a varied selection from the menu. Some items, Breaded Shrimp ($7.95), Smoky Seared Ahi Tuna ($20,95), and Ocean House Halibut ($33.95) were very tasty, but the Ahi Tuna Grilled, served rare ($18.95), Clam Chowder ($9.95), and Seafood Bisque ($10.95) were only okay. I mentioned an unusual taste, not bad, but the flavors of the chowder and the bisque were different than I've had at other seafood restaurants. I tried their Thai Iced Tea ($5.25) which was good. Overall, we felt that this dinner experience could have been better, but I would be willing to pay them a second visit and try some different menu items.

This plate also includes refried beans, rice, "garnished salad," and warm tortillas. I left El Camichin (Covina) full and satisfied. (Important Note: Bring cash. There's an increased cost of 3.84% for card.) I arrived at El Camichin (Covina) on Sunday (around 1:40PM). There's street parking; however, there's also many nearby public parking lots. El Camichin (Covina) is located in Downtown Covina near a Taco Bell. El Camichin (Covina) is crowded and popular. The customer chattering echoes loudly; the strong Latin American music flies off the walls; and the bar machine's occasional grinding & clanking noises are blaring. El Camichin (Covina) felt cramped and chaotic. A basket of chips and salsa were quickly placed on my table. Soon, I received a cup of water. These complimentary chips tasted crusty, hard, and a little stale. Thankfully, the salsa tasted fresh, and it carried a lovely addictive heat. The cup of water also tasted fresh and clean. My server (name tag said Lalo) is prompt. Lalo spoke English and Spanish. I observed how Lalo glides from table to table to check-in with guests. "How you doin, brotha'?" he'd exclaim. I ordered the Al Mojo de Ajo / Camarones Shrimp Plate ($24). It arrived in 12 minutes and 22 seconds. Very fast. Concerning the food, there's genuine fresh and flavorful quality hidden amongst its ugly plating and presentation. At first glance, the Al Mojo de Ajo / Camarones Shrimp Plate appeared underwhelming and unappetizing. It looked clunky like something dumped from a cafeteria. However, as I slowly tasted parts of its dish, I found myself pleasantly surprised. Its jumbo shrimps came huge, plump, and dripping with butter. They felt fresh, soft, and juicy. Next, the refried beans came thick, fresh, and clean. Its melted cheese created a welcomed savory creaminess. The rice was warm and dry, but its texture and flavor were enhanced as melted butter drizzled over its grains. I especially enjoyed the corn tortilla. These tortillas felt fluffy and stretchy. Unfortunately, I disliked the "garnished salad." It tasted like warm, old lettuce that was scraped off a few random tacos. The ambiance at El Camichin (Covina) felt chaotic, almost like a festival. It's reminiscent of a noisy sports bar at times. El Camichin (Covina) has many flat screen TVs playing football, and many customers appeared absorbed into the game. Fortunately, El Camichin (Covina) felt relatively clean despite being so busy. The floors looked a little messy, but the tables were shiny and smooth. Thankfully, the interior also felt well-ventilated. I also appreciated the beautiful art murals on the walls. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at El Camichin (Covina). This location felt popular and chaotic, but there's genuine good ingredients and food hidden within. I left full and satisfied. 4.5 out of 5
