Inside the New Haven Market in West Covina, they have a shop specializing in a Japanese/korean/western fusion. We tried their top of the line bowls, the Filet Mignon Bowl and the Korean BBQ Pork Belly bowl. The meat itself was pretty good, a little chewy for both. But the enoki mushroom tempura had a weird stringy texture that didn't compliment their otherwise perfect crunchy tempura exterior. They also come with kale and kimchi which works, but not the expected Japanese combination. The sauce tasted overall pretty standard more concentrated teriyaki. Given the price point for lunch, I expected a bit more. I feel that their more economical bowls may like feel like a better value, but their premium options were not worth it for me. read more

I wanted to write a review to specifically shout out the incredible staff here. I ran into an issue where I had been waiting quite a while for my order. Turns out my order was lost. They remade my order and was so apologetic, even graciously included a free appetizer and drink to make up for it. They went above and beyond for me. I ordered the sirloin steak bowl and really enjoyed it. It comes with rice at the base, battered enoki mushroom, kimchi, nori, and crispy kale. A very hearty, balanced, and satisfying meal. We were very satisfied with Kaidon. It reminded us a bit of Japan (sorta) in terms of the food court set up and ordering. The food is made to order so it might have a small wait especially when they're busy. Everything came out nice and hot. The taste of everything was very good, the beef was tender and fatty. The pork pieces were massive and not chewy. The kimchi they use is delicious and packs a nice punch. The karaage was juicy and full of flavor, it didn't even need sauce. This spot is located inside Haven City. I ordered the Yakiniku Mountain Bowl and it was very yummy. I especially loved their wasabi-type sauce. The bowl was beautifully presented and packed with flavor, and the crispy enoki mushrooms were fresh and stayed crunchy the whole time. I've been coming to Haven City Marketplace for lunch and decided to give this spot a try. I ordered the kimchi chicken bowl. The food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. The first thing I noticed was the small amount of chicken meat in the center of the bowl. It looks like a good portion but thats from the positioning and presentation. The amount of veggies were also pretty lacking as compared to the advertised pictures they had on screen. Taste wise, the food was alright. There wasn't much chicken and sides in comparison to the amount of rice they give. Overall, the food was average and not worth it. I was expecting more meat and veggies, not 70% rice. They were also relatively expensive for a bowl especially compared to the neighboring chinese stalls. Can't say I would recommend this over anywhere else. read more

Ken answered all my questions; Ken worked nonstop; and Ken was very welcoming. After ordering, Ken gave me an electronic pager that would buzz when my meal was ready. My food took 17 minutes and 12 seconds. As mentioned, I ordered the Grilled Sirloin Steak Bowl ($23.99). It's enjoyable. The steak is thick and juicy. And the steamed rice is fresh and clean. However, its aftertaste of kimchi and kale might dissuade some customers. Still, I found joy in this well-prepared bowl. The crunchy enoki mushrooms also reminded me of a crisp vegetable tempura. Concerning ambiance, Kaidon (West Covina) is a food stall in the popular Haven City Market. The location is very clean with plentiful seating. Also, I enjoy the upbeat music and many flat screen TVs that play the basketball game. It's a comfortable spot. Overall, I had a good experience at Kaidon (West Covina). I'm not entirely sure if the bowl is meant to be Japanese or Korean style, but I wouldn't expect kimchi and fried potato slices (it was supposed to be fried enoki mushroom) at a Japanese spot. The biggest downside for me was the meat. I wish they had asked how well-done we wanted it, and it would have been much better if it were served hot instead of lukewarm. The portions also felt a bit small. We ordered the 10 oz premium grilled sirloin steak bowl, but it felt more like 6-7 oz, which didn't match what was advertised. Got the legendary bowl. It was just alright, I would give it 6/10. The meat was a bit burnt & super fatty, which I wasn't a big fan of. The enoki mushroom was too greasy in my opinion, and the kale/ spinach (greens) in the bowl were deep fried.. I do like the sauce and the rice, but other than that, it was just an okay bowl. Ordered the legendary and the top sirloin. The bowls were delicious! Loved the enoki mushrooms and the kimchi was perfect to cut through the fattyness. Husband and I finished the whole bowl. We also ordered the Japanese fried chicken. That was meh, wasn't the best, wast the worst. They should give you a wedge of lemon to add some zest to the chicken but they didn't. It took about 15 minutes for my food, they say quality food takes time. Service: you order from a kiosk, so no service really. On a weekday, there is plenty of seating, the area is well lit, and plenty of other food options to try. Parking: on a Wednesday afternoon empty, on a weekend, good luck. This place is all about looks, not the taste. It was $20 something for the "LEGENDARY" yakiniku mountain bowl. More like a mountain of rice hidden underneath with so much oil that a country we know would seek it out. It is not as it's pictures, they sold you on the aesthetics. I bought, my mistake. I wouldn't do it again. The beef itself taste pretty good, but it's so greasy that I can't get over it. I eat more rice to cover the taste, just to find more grease at the bottom of the bowl. The fried enoki mushroom is a farce; all the looks with no taste, because it is fried to smithereens. The kimchi doesn't match the vibe of the bowl. I don't get the dehydrated kale, what are they doing in the bowl? The dried unflavored leaves takes away from any flavor it had left. Pretending to look healthy? Too expensive for the portion, too greasy for my emotion. They need a new kitchen staff. This isn't Japanese food lmao. read more

Pretty yummy spot in Haven City Market in West Covina. I went on my lunch break and was super impressed by this spot. I ordered the #1 and got the Karaage combo with the mango slushee. The don took 15-20 min to make, but was worth the wait. The chicken was a little oily, but freshly fried, so not too bad. The sauce is very yummy, typical spicy mayo sauce. The don itself had a lot of meet and I loved all the stuff that came with it, like the fried enoki mushroom, the seaweed, the fried kale, and the kimchi (but they only gave a little bit of kimchi so left me wanting more). The sauce on the don was good too, there's a teriyaki like sauce and a wasabi-like/horseradish type of sauce that you could serve yourself on the side, and I got both and was super happy with it. All and all, it's a good spot with good food that's of good quality. Seating is "cafeteria-style" so you may sit with strangers if you don't have a full table, which I didn't mind. It did take a little while to get the food so if you only have a 30-min window for lunch, I don't recommend it, as it could be too much of a time crunch, but all and all I liked it. read more

It would beneficial if the staff at Kaidon practice ServSafe Guidelines. I was mortified when I witnessed the staff in the front dropped my fried enoki on the counter and placed it back in the bowl with her bare hands. When you open a stall that is clearly geared up-market but the food to price ratio doesn't exactly meet that concept. Is the food bad...no, but is it great? Neither. I think if you can't differentiate your product from say Tokyo Central's Hot Food Bar, yet the price premium is equivalent to say going to the original Ojiya's in Gale Ave Hacienda Heights but not even on par to that level of quality....then I don't know, it's a hard sell. Guava drink was sugar on roids. Teriyaki Tofu appetizer was very mid, no batter, no crunch, very boring. Yakiniku Beef taste like Rowland Heights Korean BBQ House circa 2001 next to Yei San Jib on Colima (That isnt a compliment btw, if you had Korean BBQ for the last 30 years throughout Los Angeles, that would be the equivalent of grading a Golden Corral Buffet to Bachannal Buffet in Vegas before the Pandemic). The Kimchi was good. Whoever the vendor is, kudos. Other than that, unless I'm desperate to blow 30+ on a extremely fast casual bowl of mediocre rice and grilled meats on a weekend. Then no, I think people would be better off buying a tray of marinated bulgogi at Costco. Get some Kimchi at H Mart, and build your own bowl. Costco has YumYum sauce too. Buy if you're with family friends and just somehow on the whim decided this is what you want given the variety in the food hall, play ball. Again the food's not bad...just nothing spectacular so don't go in expecting Oral Satisfaction. Now if this was say in Lubbock Texas, I will probably rate this place a 4. That's just how it is. LA is a ultra competitive food market, so where dollars are spent matters during a recession. read more

We stopped by this donburi spot inside Haven City Market and ordered two bowls and upgraded both to the Karaage combo (+$8.99) which also came with a drink: -Legendary Yakiniku Mountain Bowl + Karaage + Mango Smoothie -Grilled Sirloin Steak Bowl + Karaage + Red Guava Smoothie Both bowls followed the same template with kimchi, seaweed, fried enoki, and "crispy" kale. The only difference was the protein, and that made all the difference. The yakiniku was AWESOME...rich, savory, and surprisingly tender. It paired really well with the mix of textures in the bowl and soaked up the sauce beautifully. The Sirloin Steak had good flavor, but the texture leaned tough and chewy. The fried enoki was such a pleasant surprise. I've never had enoki prepared this way and now I want it everywhere. Super crispy, light, and the sauce drizzled on top made it even better. The crispy kale was somehow soggy? It had the texture of a napkin...definitely the weak link. The karaage was tasty, though more chewy than crispy. Still flavorful, especially when dipped in their sauce, but if you're expecting a crackly crunch, this leans more on the soft-and-juicy side. Both the Red Guava and Mango smoothies were refreshing, though they were more like slushies than smoothies. There's a self-service ordering kiosk where you order and they text you when your order is ready. There's also a sauce station where there was a sriracha mayo-like sauce, creamy wasabi sauce, and teriyaki sauce. There weren't many people in line there on the weekday Overall, this spot delivers solid comfort food with some standout elements (fried enoki, I will dream of you).
