I'm forever on the hunt for the best poke bowls on the island. At least in every city I venture, I like to know if there's a donburi close by to get my fix. I have some of the best bookmarked poke bowls in Manoa, Kaneohe, and Ala Moana. Now I have one in East Oahu. Sushi Man has TWO very good donburis (poke bowls). Their most popular is the Poke Crunch Donburi: spicy tuna on a bed of white rice, tempura crunch flakes, side edamame, and their signature sauce for $16.99 (on 5/15/26). The other sleeper is a featured special: the Torched Garlic Salmon Don. Aburi-style with garlic mayo, green onion and tobiko caviar garnish. Broke. Da. Mout. At $18.99, it's a couple dollars more but worth the splurge. Location is obscure, behind Maile's Thai facing the marina in Hawaii Kai Towne Center. Service is decent- no frills but no complaints either. Shoyu offered with meal. read more

This location is definitely one of the cleaner and newer Sushi Man locations. The restaurant is well maintained, and the presentation of the food is noticeably better than at some of the other locations. That said, I personally think the Makiki location has a better Dynamite Roll. The ingredients there seem a little fresher, and the flavor of the spicy ahi is better. The rolls at this location are still good, but they don't always taste quite as fresh to me. Overall, if you're looking for a nicer dining experience, this location is great, but I still find myself preferring Makiki when it comes to the actual sushi rolls. read more

So glad there is a location in Hawaii Kai! I think we came here a few years ago and forgot we did until recently, shame on us! It's a small shop that has limited seating but we prefer doing takeout. We got the ikura don, crunchy don, takoyaki, natto roll, and unagi roll, and seaweed salad nigiri. Everything was delicious and exceeded expectations. The crunchy don topping was actually crunchy, the fish didn't have any old or super fishy taste that quick sushi spots like this sometimes has, takoyaki was better than i thought it would be, and they didn't put ginger in the don as requested which is always noticed and appreciated. I also tried their banana matcha drink, and I'm ngl I don't really care for matcha but I would 100% go back just to get that. They definitely made that with love. Good quick sushi fix! They have lots of different options for rolls. I got the dynamite which is 8 pieces but definitely filled me up. The dynamite maki comes with shrimp tempura and cucumber inside with spicy ahi, spicy mayo, and unagi sauce on top. Everything is better with some unagi sauce!! The spicy ahi is cut in small pieces which makes it easier to eat as well as mixes well with the spicy mayo sauce. I wish the shrimp was bigger, but the tempura was soooo crispy adding a great crunch to the roll. Although i wish there was more shrimp I would order this roll again. read more

My friends worked here in high school when we were growing up and it was our go-to on the way to, or home from Sandys. I always get the spicy Ahi don (bowl) and its so so good. Fresh spicy ahi, pickled daikon, edamame, cucumber, ginger, and tobiko. Second go-to is the dynamite maki which is a roll that comes with shrimp tempura and cucumber topped with spicy Ahi. I was so excited to try this place based on all the positive Yelp reviews. I was craving sushi and thought for certain that this would hit the spot. At first I couldn't locate them in the shopping center, so I called and they said they're across from Panda Express in the food court area. They're closer to the marina (you won't see them from the parking lot). Once I arrived, I realized it was a little hole-in-the-wall that was just offering take out at the time (due to Covid). I was amazed by the variety of options and floored by the inexpensive prices. I guess that should've been clue #1. I ended up getting Bento B for $11.99. It came with 9 assorted pieces of nigiri. The lady at the cashier was very nice and helpful, thus the 2 stars instead of 1. They weren't crowded at all during dinner time. That should've been clue #2. When I got home and dove into the first piece of salmon nigiri, I almost spit it out. The rice was stale and unflavored. It certainly wasn't sushi rice at all, and the rice was hard, as if it were 2 days old. To top it off, the fish tasted like it was frozen. It certainly wasn't fresh at all. I took one bite of all the other pieces, and they were equally as bad. I ended up throwing it all away. What a waste of money! The textures made for a satisfying meal and the fish to rice ratio was great. I also thought the portion was big, I was full eating half of it so I was able to save the other half for a second meal! I felt that I got a good amount for what I paid. California handroll is one of the best ever here~!! I get it every single time I come here and it blows away a lot of the California rolls that they serve in California itself with how crisp the nori is, how thick the roll is, how warm and juicy the rice and crab meat are, and the avocado and mayonnaise are also serious business. Highly recommend the California roll here~!! Overall, this store is a bit pricier than I'd prefer so I stick with the lower cost items. Crunch Don: Sushi rice topped with Spicy Ahi then I believe tempura flakes and tempura fried onions/veggies. Smothered in spicy Mayo and garnished with green onions and edamame. The overall taste for me was really good. The texture works together well . What I think it could have made it way better is if the spicy ahi underneath was a much thicker layer. Located by the stage at Hawaii Kai Town Center. It's a simple straightforward sushi man with the menus posted on their wall with pictures to help you order when you can't decide what you want to eat. Place is clean. It's still just take out. Before Covid, there were a few seats inside. But there are tables located right outside by the stage area. One of the better sushi fast-food joints I've stumbled upon by chance!! We used to frequent G Sushi, a sushi conveyor-BOAT restaurant in Market City before they went out of business. We loved their minced spicy ahi and were bummed to not have found anybody else that made it that way. Sushi-Man makes theirs the same way!!! Their prices are reasonable, I think, for the quantity and quality of the seasoned rice and the spicy ahi. I ordered the Dynamite, 2 shrimp tempura rolls topped with a generous heap of spicy ahi mix. The tempura was flavorful and crispy, not soggy at all, and had a nice crunch when bit into. There were bits of crunchy cucumber in the rolls as well. For a total of 8 pieces, it was a very satisfying meal, and reasonable at $10.49. The kiddo had a California Roll and a Spicy Ahi Maki (8 pieces) which is exactly like mine minus the tempura and a dollar less. It was a tad spicy for him but he ate 6 pieces before he called it quits, because the Cali Roll was quite big and filling. The imitation crab meat was shredded and mixed in mayo and tasty. He said it's kind of like Genki Sushi's but way better. Service was friendly and courteous and we didn't wait long. Sushi Man is located by the marina, at the back, behind Maile's Thai Bistro.
