Well, since the owners flagged my review on Google. I'll post it here. This is for the Highgate location -- not to be confused with the Metrotown branch. First off, always bring a jacket here even if it's hot outside. The AC here is terribly cold. As regulars here for decades, sometimes with mild turbulent experiences, this specific visit highlighted a real decline in how the restaurant operates. We arrived close to sunset on a cool evening, yet the dining room was uncomfortably cold with air blowing directly on our backs. Staff can be seen to the side rubbing their upper arms trying to warm themselves. Patrons near us (tables really close) also expressed discontent with the chilly air and food. I asked a server if they could adjust the temperature twice. Finally, I got up and went to the counter and in broken English, the younger woman just shrugged and muttered that the AC was off, even though cold air was clearly still blowing--surely their HVAC system has a heater. After sitting there in a really cold dining room freezing and hearing other diners continue to complain, we decided to walk out without ordering. The cashier gave a completely scripted, insincere apology on our way out. It feels like they simply do not care about the dine-in experience or the tips customers leave anymore. I feel customers need to be more vocal and use their wallets as a method of approval. I also noticed a newly posted sign saying they now close between 3 and 4 pm for staff breaks, which seems to point to obvious staffing issues. There's way too many Sushi restaurants competing for business in the Highgate Metrotown area, this one has fallen off the rails. And I can't imagine how bad management is with these kinds of working conditions. read more

The online ordering website wasn't working and I wasn't able to pay, but a quick call to the restaurant solved my issue. I ordered through the phone easily and waited around 15 minutes for them to prepare my order. I ordered an Alaska roll ($7.45) and House roll ($8.85). Both rolls had a decent filling to rice ratio and tasted great. It is what I expected to taste like and it is a comfort food. Efficient and friendly service also! read more

Not the best sushi you can find around, but the price is really great and the food isn't too bad! My partner and I shared a California Roll, Ika Tempura Roll, and Prawn and Sweet Potato Tempura. The California Roll flavour was off for me, but I couldn't pinpoint it. I didn't really enjoy eating it despite it being my favourite roll. The Ika Tempura Roll was good -- I liked the cabbage on top. The roll itself was pretty huge. The only con was the squid had a really strong sea flavour, which wasn't something I was expecting from squid and also something I don't particularly like. The tempura was good as well--the shrimp was perfectly tender for my soft mouth, and the sweet potato was sweet. The tempura had a heavy oil to it though, which isn't common for a tempura fry. This is my go to sushi spot in Burnaby. I always order the salmon sashimi and it does not disappoint. The portions are big and the prices are fair. The Alaska roll is also a favorite, they make it differently than other sushi places by adding a the salmon and some sauce on top with avocado filling. The service is also relatively quick with attentive servers. Sometime can get busy at dinner time but that too long of a wait. read more

After nearly three years (and a pandemic that closed the border for-almost-ever), I was finally able to visit Vancouver for some sushi again and--of course--I headed straight for Sushi Garden. I've visited their Metrotown location dozens of times over the years, but had never visited this other location until now. We started with their assorted tempura, always a favorite (including the amazing sauce they serve it with), then moved on to a humongous plate of sashimi. It was just as amazing as I remembered. THICK pieces of fish, everything fresher than fresh, and more than enough deliciousness to satisfy my Sushi Garden cravings. My date also ordered some udon noodles with beef, which he said was okay but needed a little more flavor. The service was quick as always, and they still have the policy where you can't be seated until your entire party has arrived. (In other words, no need to get dropped off while your friend parks the car...may as well just come and go together!) My only cringy moment was how incredibly dirty the restroom was. I mean, to the point I was hesitant to use it. One really nice thing about this spot, though, is that they have a parking lot! It isn't big, but if you wait long enough eventually someone will exit and you have a spot to yourself. There was also limited street parking behind the store. Either way, MUCH easier to park here than at their Metrotown spot. read more

Sushi Garden is one of my favourite options when I'm in the Metrotown area! I've been religiously going here for a long time and it never disappoints. It's more of a quick in and out restaurant as there are usually long lines waiting for dine-in. However, due to COVID, I saw many customers opting for take-out instead. Here are my recommendations: Spicy Sushi Sashimi (sauce on the side) $9.45: The pieces are huge and fresh. I always get spicy sauce on the side since I can't eat spicy, but people I go with usually enjoy it as a dip. Also, it's nice to be able to control how much spicy sauce you're using! Dy-Ska Roll ($7.85), Chopped Scallop Roll ($5.15), Salmon & Avocado Roll ($5.35), Neghama Roll ($3.95): The Dy-Sky Roll is a must-get when I'm here -- Sushi Garden is the only place I know that offers this and it's very delicious. They always fill up their rolls with a lot of ingredients and will make you full. Mentaiko Udon ($11.35): Not usually one that I always get, but still quite delicious. A good option if you want to have some variety in your dishes! Portions are great for its value and the quality is also pretty good! when we decide to go for sushi, our go to is sushi garden, mostly for pick up by lougheed or dine in by high gate. we will avoid the one located by metrotown at all cost. it's too bad sushi garden doesn't accept resos, even for large parties, but i get it. sushi garden is consistent, good quality and value. my fave is their alaska rolls, and negitoro cones. their sashimi is generous, especially compared to other sushi joints. service is hit or miss, but quick to maximize high turnover. read more

I'd been going to Sushi Gardens for years and whenever I have guests from other parts of the world I bring them here and proudly because I know the sushi is awesome and the price is reasonable. So you might ask why I've checked in on Yelp mow and why only this review now. I don't know! It must be that every time I'm here I get excited and forget about everything. The minute the food land on my table my instinct tells me to dive in and right away all my worries seem to go away! My fave is the seafood salad, a bowlful of lettuce, shredded carrots and cucumbers, glass noodles, shredded imitation crabs, thinly sliced salmon, chunks of squid and shrimp and their special dressing. Popular sushi place offers fresh fish at a very reasonable price! My friend recommend this restaurant and it turned out to be a great find for me, I have seen Sushi Garden chain for a while but never got the chance to try! The dining area is well spaced ( even we are at Step 3 of re-opening ), they still have the partitions up, which makes all diners feel safe & relaxed. Outstanding items from this meal ... Hamachi Sushi ( Yellowtail ) super fresh and generous portion from the Sushi Chef! Tender and full of natural umami, you also taste the omega3 which is like butter melting in your mouth! Found out from the server that this is their "newest" location, which also has a large parking lot dedicated to the restaurant. I used to love Sushi Garden a lot. Now I find it nothing special . Not wow at all. Its a typical standard Korean ran Japanese restaurant. I ordered the spicy salmon sashimi (half order) $9.45 and the chop scallop roll $5.15. The menu price for the spicy salmon sashimi half order was marked as $8.90. Looks like they didn't update their menu price (QR code scanned on the table). I didn't bother pointing this out to them. The taste and quality is not as good as the other locations located near Metrotown or on Broadway. Portion size for the spicy salmon sashimi is also smaller compared to the other locations. There are free parking spots at this location. However, it is very limited. I did find the spicy salmon sashimi very spicy and it doesn't have the same sweetness and spicy kick compared to the other locations. When I went in, the restaurant was very empty. I am guessing most of their business are either pick-up or delivery (Uber eats or Skips) in the area. Prices are standard here. But like I said taste is not the same as the other locations. Don't get me wrong their ingredients are fresh. I would prefer their other locations (on Broadway or the one across from Metrotown). read more

Our rating: Service: 4/5 - it was busy and we didn't feel rushed to order, eat & leave Food Value: 4/5 - decent portions. They offer combo sushi for 2 people or 2-3 people. Lots of choices for sashimi, temaki, maki sushi, nigiri sushi. & tempura. Good selection for those with different dietary needs. Ambiance : 5/5 - nice décor. Able to accommodate a party of 8 Location: located across the street from Superstore on Kingsway. Metered parking out front. Just as easy to park at Metrotown & walk across the street. Fish tastes fresh and service is pretty quick. We ordered ahead of time and picked up (approx 20 min wait). They unfortunately were out of the Otoro, but we ordered plenty of salmon and uni, which were really good. Salmon sashimi were nice thick slices. read more

This is a fairly busy spot right on Kingsway across from Metrotown. Popular with the office lunchtime crowd and the student population. Food is their weak spot imo - (2.5/5) Like many Korean run sushi places they focus on larger portions and sushi piece sizing. Sashimi is brick shaped and not a pleasant experience imo. Hard to eat chewy sake pieces that large. Also too much sushi rice... should be smaller and less dense. The maki selection is broad but many of the items have that generic mayo type sauce drizzled over top. The food is definitely designed for a lower price point and volume. Service is generally good - they get you in and out pretty quickly and the servers hustle - (4/5) Atmosphere is good - Small place but can accommodate a lot of people and it's spaced out. Happy anniversary! This year we celebrated our anniversary by staying vigilant in following measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We chose to order takeout. Sushi Garden is one of our favourite Japanese restaurants. Its Highgate location has accepted takeout ONLY during the pandemic. Their food quality remained flesh, tasty, and served in a large portion. Their price also remained decent. At least they don't have a surcharge on the 'COVID cleaning fee' unlike some other places. We highly recommend their Dy-Ska Roll that is a combination of Dynamite roll and Alaska roll. It was a mingling of delicious flavours and textures. I deeply appreciate this place because it's the best bang for your buck you'll get for sushi. The fish is good quality, not as good as what you will find in a high end sushi restaurant but definitely is still good quality. Service is quick and efficient and they are fast casual in and out restaurant which is nice because food comes very quickly. When I come here, I usually get the spicy salmon combo which is the spicy salmon roll, the spicy salmon sashimi which is chunks of salmon with a tangy spicy sauce. It's a Korean hot sauce called Cho Jang and I love it! This time I also got an order of the salmon sashimi on top of that with some miso soup on the side. It was all so good! The salmon sashimi comes in huge slices and definitely so good! The miso soup is the instant kind but I'm definitely not complaining about that! Small Japanese restaurant near Metrotown. Not super busy when we went on a weeknight. Menu is mostly sushi and sashimi, but also has tempura and some noodles. I got an order of the sweet potato and shrimp tempura, and the spicy salmon combo. The tempura was tasty with the batter being light and crispy. The spicy salmon combo had their salmon sashimi in their spicy sauce, a few pieces of the spicy salmon rolls and some cucumber maki. I liked the tangy spicy sauce on the salmon, since it offsets the fattiness of the raw salmon. The bill was $30 which is not expensive at all for a sushi place. read more

Wow!!! Such good value! I came to Vancouver on a trip and was brought here by a friend. We ended up coming back multiple times for takeout as the sashimi was just so good and affordable. I would recommend getting the regular sashimi as opposed to the spicy version (too much spicy sauce that overpowered the fish). The rolls were also really good with fresh fish and ingredients. I don't really believe in the phrase, "I can't even," but I think that's the only thing I can really say to sum up this place. There is an actual (albeit small) parking lot and the place is nicely decorated with wood tables and dark coloring. The room is big, so although it can be crowded and noisy at times, it never feels claustrophobic. The service is good - not the best, but certainly better than the metro location - and they are pretty good about substituting things due to allergies. The pricing is quite good, and although I am currently reaping the "American discount" as the exchange rate is about $0.77USD:$1CAD, even if it were $1:$1, it would still be a pretty decent value. Sashimi is thick and generally quite generously cut, and the nigiri has a fantastic ratio of fish to rice. The rolls are inventive and big, and I always get a house roll just to see what they come up with. The real crab Alaskan roll is also a treat and worth the splurge. I typically stick to sashimi, and they do offer red clam, octopus, scallop, and uni, along with your typical fare. The fish has never tasted bad - always fresh (if not a little frozen, but hey....I don't judge and there's never been freezerburn taste). The other night, four of us ate there for $77US, including one large hot sake - and we ate so much, driving home comfortably was a challenge. This is our go-to location for sushi, even though it includes crossing the border. It's worth it. read more

Came here after seeing the lack of cars in the parking lot and was seated right away at around 1:45. We ordered a whole whack of rolls plus a yaki udon and agedashi tofu. Its exactly what you expect from sushi garden. Lots of cucumbers in rolls that are a little bit heavy on the rice but have enough filling to even it out. The sauce is a little gloopy and extremely flavourful (salty and sweet depending on the roll) but prices are very reasonable. The alaska roll remains a favourite here as the avocado was fresh. The chopped scallop was surprisingly good as they didnt have too much mayo and quite a bit of filling. The ikamite roll is disappointing as the calamari was tasteless and chewy plus a strange coleslaw ontop of the whole thing. Yakiudon had a bit too much oil but overall flavour was okay. Overall, reasonably priced korean run sushi that is worth it, especially if there is no wait! read more

I much prefer this Sushi Garden location (near Edmonds) compared to the other one nearer Metrotown (also along Kingsway). This place is big and has a parking lot in front. It gets filled up very quickly as it is not very big, but you can easily find parking along the street nearby. It took me a while before trying this place as I did not think much of it after my experience at the Metrotown outlet. I was glad my friend took me here as it changed my mind about Sushi Garden. The rolls we had were decent, but what blew me away was the chirashi. It was not the best I had but it was definitely value for money. The bowl had plenty of fish/seafood on it. The rice could be better. The slices of tuna and salmon were pretty thick. Loved it! As this place is usually crowded, you will need to have everyone there in your party before you will be seated. This venue is just like the other Kingsway (Metropolis) location, with way more parking and also way less busy. Besides being the newest (if that's saying much) location, this one also seems larger. Brick and wood trim everywhere. Look quite modern and classy. Staff are friendly. No complaints. Service and menu are both consistent with the other locations. So is the food quality. Can't really go wrong with either the rolls or nigiri. read more

A good value sushi place in Metrotown. Good portions for the value. The restaurant is always busy, but their service is quick. Solid food overall, can be a bit loud inside, but due to the amount of customers, the turn over of ingredients is very fast so it stays quite fresh. Better than sushi at the Metrotown food court/mall. Although you do have to cross the busy street to get to this place. I wish they'd cut the sashimi thinner though so you don't feel like you're eating it as a big chunk. You can also appreciate the fish and texture more instead of feeling like you're eating a piece of steak. It's a good place for family and fast lunch. I'd go back again if I forget the time while shopping at Metrotown and just want a quick bite. read more

Not only is it the first date lokton and I went on back in 2018 but even now we still go there every so often. They make everything fresh and super quick! * Medium party tray ($37.50) ~ this had a nice variety of everything, chopped scallop rolls, California rolls, dynamite roll, bc roll, and an assorted nigiri set. Everything was fresh and the rolls were stuffed! * 3X California cones ($4.25/ea) ~ this was super stuffed. Lots of imitation crabmeat and a load of avocado! Ultimate cone! * Chopped scallop cone ($4.75) ~ this was also super good! Lots of chopped scallops. Good flavours and perfect amount of masago. * 10/10 ~ I really enjoyed all the things we had today. Everything was fresh, tasty and delicious! Highly recommend their party trays! * 9/10 ~ we had a lot of food including some left overs! This was enough for 3 people with a small portion of left over. There have been more and more Korean-styled sushi restaurants popping up in Burnaby and Coquitlam area. While traditional Japanese sushi place focus own simple recipes highlighting their indigents, K-styled sushi added strong flavours to regular dishes. A prime example is their use of sauces on sushi: their Alaska Roll is drenched in Japanese salad dressing. This is perfect if you like strong flavours but I prefer my sushi subtle and balanced. Their sushi portions are huge. Sushi are usually made to fit in your mouth in one bite. However the sushi here are served with a huge pieces of raw fish that are almost an inch thick and required at least two bites to finish. Too big in my opinion. The restaurant is run very efficiently ... almost like a fast food restaurant. Rules are written all over their doors and cashier counter; orders are taken as quickly as tables are cleared; six chiefs are mass producing behind the long sushi bar; guests are seated on benches with no cushions. Everything seems to try to rush you out the door as soon as possible. read more

Space is open and well maintained and service is good, but can get quite busy so make sure to time your visit well. Washrooms are well maintained. LOVE this place! Great sushi at really good prices. Love both of the locations. The Metrotown one is a little smaller, but nonetheless still great. I prefer to dine in the Highgate location since there's a lot more room and parking. Sushi garden is my go-to for sushi since I moved by Metrotown. The salmon sashimi is soo thick and fresh! The appetizers are amazing - we got the soft shell grab and it was huge! We also go Agedashi tofu, which you can never go wrong with. The Yaki Udon was so good, wish it never ended lol.
