I watched them cuss a DoorDash driver out like they were nothing because the 10 year old child they have running the register rang the order up wrong and they got confused on what he did and the DoorDash card declined they then proceeded to throw the food at the driver and cussed her out and told her to leave!!! Yes..... I said throw the food..... if you can imagine then yes.... that kind of throw.... If you don't want to get possibly cussed out and embarrassed in front of the whole restaurant, I wouldn't come here! Poor girl...... Sushiya is my favorite sushi spot in Fleming Island. Its lovingly cradled away in a moderate-to-high traffic mini-mall (blink and you could miss it, but don't). You walk in and are immediately presented with a 1980s vending machine selling temporary tattoos. I got a butterfly one (well worth it). You'd be surprised how busy this little spot can get, but the food comes out rather quickly so if you're waiting, you won't wait long. Could Sushiya be worthy of a 5 star review? Definitely. But it's not quite there yet. I have a few nitpicks but nothing too serious. Let's discuss. Dont take this the wrong way, but everything is sticky. The tables, the sushi bar counter, the various sauces on the tables. While it's an easy fix and an obvious issue, it remains nonetheless. The spicy tuna roll (my favorite roll) could be spicier. Lastly, the service could be a little better, but it's not anything terrible. Some positive notes- the prices are reasonable, the menu is pretty great, the food service is fast, the parking is convenient, and the lunch deals are fantastic! read more

Sushiya is the best sushi on Fleming island and has been since it's opened. The sushi is always fresh and the people are nice and the service is excellent. It's not the nicest on the inside and could use some updates to renovate the inside but the food is far superior to sushi cafe across the street. Sushiya is closed Mondays so I was forced to go to sushi cafe last week and it was awful. The tuna was bad and fake looking with a light pink color instead of the dark red it should look like. I won't eat their again but will always come back to sushiya. The fried Oreos if you dine in for free are always an amazing touch. Love sushiya. read more

Fleming Island is seriously lacking in both local food businesses and cuisine diversity. I'm thankful that I know about this little gem for when I need my sushi fix (which is often, I was probably Japanese in another life). Seemingly a hole-in-the-wall, this place looks like it's a part of the neighboring Chinese restaurant so don't be fooled when you arrive. The staff has always been friendly both in person and on the phone. I've only ever gotten takeout, but the atmosphere for those who dine-in is pretty charming. Granted I've never been to Asia, let alone Japan, to try sushi there but the sushi here is pretty darn good and reasonably priced. My favorite roll is the spicy tuna, and if you're making a meal the side of fried rice and clear soup is a great (and cheap) option. I've also tried the lunch steak and shrimp hibachi, and I would give it 3/5 stars because both the steak and the shrimp were overcooked. The rest of it was excellent though. I've been coming here off and on since it opened. At first I thought it was alright, cheap and average. Now, I walk in after coming back home to visit and the fish looks old and unnatural, the Chinese guys here working aren't the friendliest and seem like they're just going through the motions, the place is a mess, the furniture is falling apart, the paint on the wall is chipping off... It just seems shady and disgusting for a place serving raw, uncooked food. I've eaten in some very sketchy places in 3rd world countries, but I expect a little more here in America and in Fleming Island, a supposedly upper-middle class to upper class community. This is not to mention the massive health code violations I found while waiting for my food online. Even the avocado on my roll was black and rotten. If you absolutely have to have sushi in Fleming Island, consider Saigon-Tokyo across the street, but I would venture further out to the Southside or Riverside. If you have to eat at Sushiya, make sure it's cooked. All-in-all, this place is shit and probably should be shut down by the health department. read more

Oh, sushiya! This by far my favorite sushi place, ever. It's so small and cozy. It's always quiet, so it makes a good place to have conversation while you dine. Everyone that works there is so polite. The dynamite roll is so delicious and if you don't like sushi, they have hibachi stuff. Make sure you're really hungry because they give you SO MUCH food, you'll definitely be bringing some home. The staff makes sure that your drink is never empty! It's a really affordable place to go. This place is my go-to sushi place when I'm in Jacksonville. It's a small business off the street in Fleming Island, but don't let the exterior fool you Inside, it is very clearly Asian inspired. Despite the small space, we were able to be seated during lunch time. Here, you can find all the typical Japanese fare from sushi to hibachi. Make sure to come for the lunch special when there are a variety of sushi combos and hibachi specials to choose from! I always get the spicy salmon roll when I come here. At just over 4 dollars, it is probably one of the cheapest full-priced spicy salmon rolls that I have had. The other specialty rolls don't get too much more expensive thankfully. This roll comes with plenty of pieces (8 pieces per order) which leaves me satisfied every time. Make sure you dip it in their white sauce too! That sauce here is to die for. Overall, it is a VERY solid sushi restaurant for anyone looking to get affordable sushi that doesn't want to go to the Chinese buffet across the street. read more

Today when I called up there to inform them that they're Beef tataki was extremely over cooked. The lady argued with me and told me it was fine then hung up on me. As for the food it was OK the service is horrible if I asked for a plate, straw or anything it was an attitude and slammed onto the table every time. If there was a 2.5 star option, I would be tempted to go with that. I feel 3 is too generous and 2 is too harsh....so I'm stuck. *But after too many Health Department issues, 1 star works I hadn't been here since 2006, maybe 2007(?), but a friend loves their sushi and a night after dance and it being too late to drive to Bento, my daughter and I came here. This visit has solidified my loyalty to Bento for sushi and my belief that there is no good hibachi place on Fleming Island....or really anywhere in Jacksonville. Not anymore anyway! Phillip's Sushi was always a favorite for hibachi but lately they've been more of the miss factor than the hit factor. (insert long exasperated sigh) My daughter and I ordered 3 sushi rolls; Spicy Tuna, Godzilla, and Tataki. We also each got a Hibachi Dinner Plate with fried rice. (gluttonous, I know) The sushi was room temperature and that always makes me nervous for some type of food borne illness...room temp raw fish...but we didn't get sick. So that's a positive! The Godzilla was my daughter's favorite; the Shrimp Tempura in it had almost a sweet taste. My daughter and I did enjoy the sushi but we both agreed Bento is the best! Salad: Ginger dressing, but very orange in color and it had a distinct orange (like the citrus fruit) flavor to it. Soup: Okay, but lukewarm and the bowl was maybe half-full. Or half-empty depending on how you want to look at it! The fried rice didn't appear fried at all. And like my fried rice with a bit of veggies (e.g. peas, carrots, and chopped onion) in it. This had none of that but did have a little fried egg. And based on the white spots throughout, they must have squirted some soy sauce on white rice before sending it out and proclaiming it as "fried". Blah. The steak was of poor quality - I realized later she never asked how we wanted it cooked. Fairly certain it came out well done. But the flavor was akin to hamburger meat and it tasted the lowest grade of sirloin possible...if it was sirloin, I've no idea. And the shrimp tasted like it came from a BBQ restaurant (!?). Odd, I know....but it did. And it was absolutely frozen not fresh. The vegetables were the best part of the meal; the ones that were seasoned anyway. Their Shrimp Sauce looked like run of the mill Shrimp sauce, the right color and consistency, but had minimal flavor. IF we go back, we'll probably stick to sushi as their hot entrees were nothing to excite my palate. read more

Unfortunately I didn't have the best experience here. I ordered the spicy tuna, California, crazy tuna, and the hungry roll. The spicy tuna still had a lot of chunks of tuna in it. It wasn't blended real well. The California was an Alaska roll I don't eat salmon so they took that off but gave me attitude like that was what I ordered they checked the order and it had California. The hungry roll was so so bland no flavor. The crazy tunas avacodo was not ripe.
