I just wanted to take a moment to recognize two amazing ladies at the Downtown Los Angeles SusieCakes location--Climmiesha and Ariel. Every time I stop by, they greet everyone with genuine smiles, kindness, and such positive energy. It's refreshing to see how well they interact with every guest and how much they truly seem to care about making each visit special. Their customer service is consistently outstanding, and they always make me feel welcomed and appreciated. I'll admit, I probably stop by more often than I should (don't judge me! ), but it's honestly because the experience is just as sweet as the desserts. They always leave me smiling. Cakes- Although initially the cakes were on the heavier / sweeter side than expected, the staff shared which cakes were sweeter, used cream cheese frosting vs buttercream, were more moist (even after a couple days), etc. Our favorite has been the Red Velvet- moist, cream cheese frosting, and not as sweet. You cannot go wrong with any of the cakes if you inherently like coconut, lemon, carrot cakes, birthday, and others (seasonal favorite is berry cake- Light, buttercream frosting, fresh berries, the best!) However, indulging in the cakes is not the main reason we come here. The people who open and close the store, who make the cakes, place them tantalizingly on the shelves, have dog treats/samples available, and the ability to somehow uplift any depressing mood (esp. our chemotherapy treatment days) and even my Shiba Inu's day, are the reason we chose this location. Cici (shortened) has done it all and has gone above and beyond to even greet Rufus, our dog as we walk past the store to give him a treat. She remembers what cake my mom enjoyed during chemotherapy, and always lifted our moods. I don't leave reviews on service, usually the food is what's important. This is one exception where I need to echo other reviewer sentiments that CiCi, Lucia, and Dennis have made this location our go to location because their professionalism, hard work, friendliness, empathy are all palpable. Thank you Cici, Lucia and Dennis for the cakes and cupcakes, (even making a cream cheese frosting cupcake instead of buttercream on the spot, because we asked). I don't think I'll be going to SusieCakes anymore... in fact, I know I won't. I stopped in for a slice of red velvet cake for my (belated) birthday. I thought it was odd when I ordered my slice, I was immediately handed a box that was already pre-cut. The box felt light but was all taped up so I didn't really know that was inside. When I finally opened the box, it was a small piece of cake that is literally HALF the size it used to be. In fact, a piece of cake in the past would last me 2 days (I've been going to SusieCakes since they only had a couple stores-- many many years ago). This one? Not even a slice, but a sliver. Gone in a few mins... $8 bucks for that?!! And the taste was pretty bland (both the cake and the cream cheese frosting). Not like I remember at all. It's time for a breakup, SusieCakes. read more

I had a GREAT experience here! Yesterday my aunt and I came to Susie's to get a little sweet treat after work since it was her birthday. The girly behind the counter was so sweet and answered all of my questions regarding the top flavors, prices etc. We ended up getting mocha, red velvet, chocolate and a seasonal flavor 4 pack of cupcakes. While my aunt was on the phone, the other girly came out and we all started chatting it up! The vibes were great, the cupcakes were great and I'm so glad we spontaneously came in. Best Cupcake ever!!! After that said I would be honest with you I never thought that this small Place in DTLA would give me so much joy! The personnel were friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and amazing! I got 3 mini cupcakes ( red velvet, chicken and vanilla) my coworker got 2 cupcakes ( peanut butter and coconut) when we got to the hotel we discovered that she( the employee) gifted us some cupcakes on my box I found 2 of each flavor and my coworker got an lemon and a red velvet! They also have cupcakes, birthday cupcakes and cakes that you can have customized for the occasion. Their carrot cake is outstanding too! Good thing they serve milk. Too bad they don't sell ice cream pints. Service was good-/They made a mistake on our cookie, but made it right by giving us the selected cookie, a snicker doodle, as well as letting us keep the chocolate chip which they gave us in error, since we already handled it before noticing that it was incorrect. I have a big sweet tooth whereas the wife is not a fan of American-style bakeries as she finds everything to be too sweet. I housed my PB Cupcake in New York Minute and she nibbled and brought and home where it went bad in the fridge - shame on her! I read online that the PB Cupcake was really good and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed this flavor. It is not every day you get a PB Cupcake. I can't recommend Susie Cakes enough! I bought this red velvet case for my office holiday party and they did a great job with decorating it just like I asked for - celebrating birthdays, Christmas, and Hanukkah. The red velvet cake was moist, and the frosting is divine!! My boss bought a dozen cupcakes once from here and everyone loved their cupcakes! I had the espresso cupcake and it's honestly one of the best cupcakes I've ever had! On top of great flavors, everyone working there is incredibly kind. The gentleman who helped me with the cake was so enthusiastic about helping to decorate it. And he went above and beyond for the birthday cupcake I ordered. First I want to thank Leia and Ashley so so much for their kindness and going above and beyond. A friend of mine passed away this year under very tragic circumstances and his birthday was today. My partner had a hard week knowing their birthday was approaching and had mixed feelings about whether or not to celebrate our friends birthday. We were fortunate enough to spend what would've have been his last birthday with him in 2024 and I knew a celebration this year would lift our spirits. Sad to report a pretty average experience at SusieCakes. The service was great and the store appeared to be super clean, but the cake fell flat. The celebration cake looked so pretty with the light blue buttercream and the flavor was great, but the cake itself was a bit dry and dense. I did purchase at the end of the day, so that may have had something to do with it. In contrast, the old fashioned chocolate cake was delicious and light/fluffy. Based on the chocolate cake, I'm guessing I just got a last slice of celebration cake at the end of the day and that affected the texture. read more

I have also done SusieCakes through the app, TooGoodToGo, and am always pleasantly surprised at the amount of delicious things you get for $7! CC is a huge highlight of this store. She is so wonderful, positive, and charismatic. Every time we are helped by her, we feel so important and cared for! She is so passionate about making sure you get something you will like and that you leave happy. The cupcakes themselves are on another level. Such simple, no-frills designs and flavors but they blow you away. My favorite will always be the chocolate with vanilla buttercream but some of the seasonal ones have been amazing (See's Candies Bordeaux collab, Blueberry pancake, Salted caramel).
