What I loved most was the balance of sweetness. It wasn't overpowering at all, which is honestly refreshing for a filled pastry. Even with a cream filling inside, it stayed perfectly measured -- sweet enough to feel like a treat, but not the kind that makes you feel like you've had enough after one bite. I could have easily gone for another. I'm definitely planning to visit in person and explore more of what this café has to offer. If their other items are anything like this little gem, I have a feeling it's going to be a new favorite spot. I've been coming here off/on for about 9 years since it's close to our office. We had group make it a daily pilgrimage for coffee and treats. I am in trouble with this place being so close to my new home. If you love baked goods, this place is for you! I tried the Chocolate Hazelnut Muffin and Chocolate Croissant-both were fresh, and perfectly textured. The muffin was beautifully moist, large, garnished with chopped hazelnuts and filled with a dollop of Nutella inside. The chocolate croissant was perfectly flaky with a healthy amount of chocolate inside. Both items were so fresh, and their pricing is extremely reasonable. I was thrilled that there was an 85 degree bakery walking distance from where I was staying. I love this chain and had not been in a while. Walking through the doors filled m with excitement as I was greeted with a view of oh so many baked treats. From oreo buns to cakes to savory rolls, the choices were endless and all delicious. I quickly made this my everyday breakfast spot and made an effort to sample as many flavors as I could. The items were all well baked, with soft and rich bread, and all the fillings were amazing, with the textures being perfect complementary. The interior was well organized and I love the self serve tray as it allowed me to have control (maybe too much) over my selections. The servers were very helpful and explained the hours and when the fresh selections would be available. I also was very impressed with the packaging, which was secure. This 85 location is actually the smallest one I've been to so the selections are less varied and there are no tables/seating. The parking is also horrendous with loading zones only but if you're here for something quick, it's not bad. I went here mainly bc I have craving egg tarts and a sea salt beverage which were decent! The service was alright, nice cashier and just people getting their work done. Recommendations: sea salt oolong tea might be the best out of their sea salt collection. The egg tarts aren't the BEST but it gets my cravings satisfied. Please don't come here if you're looking to park and sit! read more

The downtown location is surprisingly clean and their baked goods and pastries are fresh. They appear to have a regular clientele who stops in on their way to work or class. On the weekdays anyway. They probably sell through their products faster maintaining their freshness. This is a takeout only location. No seating at all. Grab and go. It's nearby several downtown hotels, Sheraton, Hilton, Hotel Per La, as well as several colleges. Staff is friendly and efficient. They keep the location clean and tidy. I have observed them handling difficult people, who are not customers, but who walk in off of the streets, with grace and kindness when the situation needs to be addressed. This is a small, but mighty location. People who work, live, go to school or visit downtown L.A. are lucky to have it as a choice among several Starbucks. Parking is a challenge. Picked up about 8 pastries, in addition to an iced Vietnamese coffee at the counter. My favorite pastry has always been the blueberry cream cheese brioche! Everything is $2-5 each, which is a great option when you don't want to leave your hotel every time you're hungry. Customer service was fantastic. They're always whipping out fresh pastries, and even though this is a smaller locations it's just as well stocked with sweet and savory options. I go to my office in downtown 3 times a week and on those days I go to this branch and buy a bunch of stuff (usually worth around $15) 3 times a week. Today, this guy, Elizha, who has a generally rude manner was working there. I picked a bunch of stuff (6 items) I was buying and put them all next to the first cashier register, as the second one was busy. Then, Elizha comes to the second register and tells me, again in a rude manner as if he is ordering me, to put my stuff next to that register, which is 6 inches away from my stuff. I asked, can't you pick them up and scan them. He says, no, why can't you pick them up and put them next to me!! As I am in a bit of shock because of his behavior, I put the stuff there and ask where his manager is. He says we don't have any manager here. I ask for his name, and he says I don't have a name and I don't want to serve you today!! Thank god the manager, Ray, comes out of the kitchen and asks what the problem is. When I told him the story, he was very surprised and apologized to me 10 times. He even gave me one of the items for free. When I asked this is not good for your store, he tells me that he receives complaints on this guy on a daily basis! I hope the reginal manager reads this and let this guy go, as he could easily bring the number of the clients for this branch significantly down. read more

We were on our way to Whole Foods but stopped by since it was on the way. The store is small and has a tiny selection of bread compared to other 85 C Bakery stores we've been in at the Bay Area. They had a buy 3 get 1 free bread promotion & some seasonal items at the time so we decided to take advantage of it. Aussie Meat Pie ($3.10): I wasn't sure what to expect but it wasn't bad. I thought the meat would be full of umami & salty but the meat marinade was pretty light. Premium Milk Bread ($2.50): This is a good palette cleanser for me so I take a bite after a meal to satisfy my sweet tooth. The bread is really soft and would probably be really good to dip in some condensed milk. Cheese Dog ($2.50): One of our go to items here. We love eating this as a savory snack. Taiwanese Boroh ($1.85): I am a sucker for the beautiful textured look but forget how plain tasting it actually is so skip on this if you want to make the most out of your carb intake! Egg Tart Box ($4.45 for 2): These were good but not as great as I remember they used to be. Mango Coconut ($5.15): Oh. My. Goodness. We loved the mango smoothie here but this blows the other one out of the waters. It's super refreshing, sweet, delicious, & comes with real mango pieces that are ripened This is a must try! Taro Lavender Latte Light Ice ($5.05): This is also a new drink that was pretty good but it doesn't compare to the mango coconut. So glad there's an 85C bakery in DTLA. It's our office's go-to place for birthday cakes! Prices are affordable and the cakes are decadently good! Ordered the Ube Cream cake for some whimsical fun and the taste was divine! Creamy and moist, not heavy and not even sweet! Had the Classic Tiramisu cake last time for another birthday occasion and it was also moist and delicious! It's my ultimate favorite! Decorations for both cakes were pretty and spot-on! If there's anything to critique, I didn't find any except am hoping they'd moved to a bigger location, perhaps by 7th & Figueroa to better accommodate many patrons not to mention, it'll be closer to my work! Not to mention so many other delicious goodies like their chocolate brownie cookies, any hot dog or bacon pastries, just about anything you pick is a safe bet. Prices aren't too bad with egg tarts for $1.80, drinks for $4, huge chocolate cream cheese bread for $2.50, bacon & cheese pastries for $2.15 - just as a few examples. They make some great drinks, as well, I love their sea salt coffees! Nomz. Though I love the cafe, this is one of my least favorite locations. This review is not about 85c as a whole, just this location. I have been to at least 8 different locations, and generally have an amazing experience. This location consistently puts out burnt and/or undercooked product. There's something going on with their ovens, or quality checks. Also they are almost always out of most items. Even if you go mid morning. Additional the team almost always gets the drink order wrong, and rarely fixes it. And on top of that they are rude about the whole thing. Something is going on with management, and training. I love 85. This is the closest location to me. I still probably stick to the ktown location because I'm tired of burnt and undercooked items. read more

Other than that, I finally stopped in yesterday and got their filled milk bun and potato and cheese pastry. Holy MOLY! Just so good. Pretty darn cheap too. I've always really enjoyed this café/bakery. It has always been very clean and tidy. I love love Boba and all sorts of things. I'm a big coffee person, so wondering that I really enjoyed is an iced rose latte with Boba, so instead of it being a rose milk tea it's done with the espresso end it is magnificent. In general, it can be difficult to find rose flavored things in this part of the world so when you do find a good one, it's especially excellent. I also really like the cheesecake bites, the moon, cakes, and every pastry OK I've ever tried. I've never ordered something from here that I didn't like. The staff have always being friendly and extra helpful to make me comfortable. I love 85C bakery! I'm traveling from NYC and I had three 85C bakery's in the span of 6 days. I actually bought some back to NYC bc we do not have an 85c here. The bread here tastes so amazing! Despite bringing back to NYC, I put it in the oven to heat up for 1 minute and it smells so good and tastes just as good! I bought some for my family and they were impressed! All the buns still have a crispy, crusted layer of bread. The Hokkaido cheese tart tastes so good to me! It's similar to KAB cheese tart original. The serving size is perfect and the mochi egg tarts are also very delicious! I ordered milk tea from here and I think it was ok. I'm a fan of tea bags over boba powder. But I haven't tried their other drinks or coffee. But it's definitely a place that I would come back if I travel again! The bread is so delicious!!! I see why people order so much! read more

My cousin told me about this bakery and I just needed to RAVE about the AMAZING Milk Tea Buns!!! They are a game changer and I wish they had them on the east coast. It is essentially a milk tea bun with a mochi and milk tea custard inside. I went bun crazy and bought the Strawberry, Matcha, and Milk tea buns as well as an espresso bun, egg tart, and their Portuguese tart. I loved the strawberry as much as the regular bun but overall it was a memorable experience. I loved every second of it and wish I can relive it in New York. read more

Came to this location today because I found out it is finally opened since it was basically closed all of last year due to the pandemic which really sucked because this location is super close to me and ended having to go to the one in K-Town and found out from them that this location was open after writing a review for that location since it was becoming my go to spot. This location is most definitely on the smaller side compared to some of the other 85 locations. It's very convenient for people who are walking and working in downtown because parking is very very hard to find and you are very lucky if you find a meter nearby. read more
