(SLB) We recently completed both a roofing and solar project with Sustainable Living Builders (SLB), and I can honestly say this is one of the best contractor experiences we've ever had. After collecting multiple bids from other roofing and solar companies, we decided to go with SLB based on a friend's glowing recommendation--and now I completely understand why. We had two separate contracts with SLB: one for roofing, gutters, gutter guards, and downspouts, and another for a full solar system installation with a Tesla Powerwalls. Every part of the process--from the first meeting to the final inspection--was handled with professionalism, transparency, and genuine care. Cayden, our sales associate, was outstanding. He patiently walked us through every option, answered countless questions, and helped us explore multiple iterations of solar setups and roofing materials without ever once using pressure tactics. His knowledge and calm, customer-first approach made a big difference. Once we signed our contracts, Daniel, the business manager, took over communications. He was highly organized, kept us updated daily, and coordinated the schedules for both projects seamlessly. His follow-through was impeccable--he tracked every punch list item and made sure nothing fell through the cracks. Our roofing project manager, Ramon, truly went above and beyond. He made sure every detail was perfect and that we were happy with the results. His crew was hardworking, professional, and clearly took pride in their craftsmanship. The new roof and gutters look fantastic, and the workmanship speaks for itself. Finally, Justin, the solar project manager, was just as impressive. He and his team completed the solar and Tesla Powerwall installation in only two days! Justin was always responsive, took the time to explain everything clearly, and handled all of the permitting and inspection logistics with the city and PG&E. Knowing he's managing that process gives us total peace of mind. From start to finish, SLB exceeded expectations at every level. It's rare to find a company that delivers this combination of quality, professionalism, and communication across multiple trades--but they've mastered it. Start negotiating for roof replacement in early Sept. We agreed on a price with the under standing they will start by end of Oct. Oct. came and went and no starting date Finally, they asked for a $1,000.00 deposit A check was mailed in Nov. and again I asked for a starting date. And no response. Finally, I called CEO Delgado to refund my check and he said he will put it in the mail .on that day. and I am still waiting. We worked with Sustainable Living Builders last year to replace our roof with a Tesla solar roof. Overall they did a great job: the work was of high quality and they were generally responsive to our concerns. We did run into a problem where they initially told us that we could wire in our generator (during the winter we get very little direct sun) and then concluded that this was not possible. This was quite frustrating, but they assured us that if we ran into a problem over the winter they would come back, which was comforting. Even more frustrating was that after the job was done I thought through the circuit and repeatedly tried to get in touch with them to figure out why the generator transfer switch could not be placed between their system and the house breaker. There was no response to any of my emails or texts. I'll add that during a 2 day outage we came very close to running out of power despite unplugging everything we could, a concern given that my 88 year of mother lives with us and we depend on electricity for both heat and water pressure. Overall I would give them five stars for the initial work and one for post-job customer service. read more

Incredible!! From start to finish. I live in Berkeley and worked with Juan and his amazing team to redo our roofs and gutters, which really, really needed work. They even replaced fascia. From the beginning, Juan was very generous with this time and expertise, the whole process was transparent and we are all very happy with our new roof. They even came back to fix some minor things that we noticed without delay. SLB was recommended to us by our neighbor and I'm so glad we went with them. SLB just completed the installation of our new roof including solar shingles and did a very good job. There was some rain on the first day, which made me nervous about whether they were going to rush ahead with the installation, despite the rain, to stay on their schedule. But they were quite meticulous about making sure that the roof plywood and the underlayment were dry before installing the shingles. In particular, the superintendent, Ramon, was excellent at his job. Very professional, helpful, and thorough. The whole installation team was also knowledgeable and helpful. The entire experience - from meeting Juan Hernandez for the initial evaluation and project scope, to the professional crew doing demo and installation, until the end of inspections and clean up - was impressive, professional and high-quality. Even during COVID, winter storms, and navigating HOA & city permits, they got the job done with a smile. Not only did they take the time to walk me through the specifics of my roof but they gave me options and helped me make the right choice. The project itself went quick and smooth. Good luck with these guys. Great website, performance not so great. Also, their finish work is very suspect. Sure they are nice, but if jaime and juan who speak perfect english, are not on site, there may be someone whose english is not so great. So, if there is an issue, there is no guarantee that your issues will be properly understood. That is when mistakes happen. Also, there are many promises and schedules that are not adhered to. And bottom line the quality is not there. Lastly , they are not problem solvers, so if issues come up and that is the nature of remodeling - window installs, etc, it will more than likely be funky. read more

All through this process I never felt that Jaime was exaggerating the job or misleading me in an effort to increase the price of the job. Jamie and Juan came to my house I told them what I needed done and I told them my budget they said no problem we can do that we can keep it within the budget.
