I've been here 3 times in the past five years and have always loved my stay. Sutter Creek itself is probably the most pleasant place to stay in when visiting the Amador valley, and this inn -- which proclaims itself the first B&B in the West -- is super charming and inviting. The pre-Civil war building and the beautifully kept gardens offer plenty of areas to hang out and relax. The daintiness of the rooms is tempered and tasteful. And I've been delighted by the company of other guests I've met here... either on the grounds or over the delicious breakfast they serve each morning. read more

My husband and I hosted a holiday weekend stay for our out of town family when our daughter got married at a venue in a neighboring town, and the Inn was a perfect setting for our gathering. We occupied 10 or 12 rooms at the Inn and spent the days lounging on the lawn and greeting other guests as they arrived. The garden area and private patios were just lovely. The breakfast room was a perfect place for us to all start our day and the meals were just fabulous. We also enjoyed the homemade cookies and lemonade in the afternoon. The staff was friendly and helpful, and everyone was comfortable in their rooms. My friends from Florida especially liked the swinging beds. I would definitely go back for a relaxing weekend, and my daughter and her (now) husband plan to go back there to celebrate their first anniversary. My husband and I stopped in there for a last minute night away from our home in Cameron Park and we had the best time in our lives. It was quiet and peaceful. We made a spur of the moment trip. The week after Christmas is always an odd time to travel but that's when we were married. We found some availability with the amenities we like. This is just about the best trip we've ever been on and we found the accomodations and town charming. Like I said, sometimes midweek in winter is had to find the local shops all open. It is what it is but we loved having so much in walking distance. Didn't need the car at all. We stayed in the Carriage House. We didn't find it musty at all. Yes, it is a bit dated and a little dark but but I'll take "cozy", clean and a little dated for a fireplace and soaking tub for 2! Honestly, we only do bed and breakfast and this one was very reasonably priced in comparison for the ammenities so, yes, perfection isn't always attainable but we liked it and it is, afterall, the oldest b&b in California. It's charming enough that Kinkade painted this very inn and the picture hangs in the lobby. There's an Asian motif to this room which I've seen in a lot of mining areas. All rooms are completely different, however. The only thing I could wish for is a king size bed. We actually ran into a couple that comes almost every year and they've stayed in many of the rooms. The food was pretty standard fare and they have the nice little evening cookie and cider thing going. FYI, I'm a gluten free person and I just eat around if I need to. Don't think you can expect people to cook around you. We will definitely be back. The inn plus the town were great! read more

Such a nice relaxing weekend here. Our room (the Carriage House) was a little dark for my taste (dark paint and not much natural light coming in) and a bit overcrowded with furniture, but otherwise absolutely lovely. Breakfast both days was DELICIOUS and we enjoyed our 2nd day breakfast with one of the owners - full of spark and stories. A special shout-out to Franklin who works there - super friendly and personable! Thanks to this wonderful family owned establishment - we will definitely be coming back. read more

This was our first bed and breakfast experience and we loved it. We stayed in the Miners Cabin. It is rustic, well-maintained and super clean. The private patio was great. The breakfast both mornings was delicious. First morning we had artichoke egg casserole, two kinds of bacon, homemade muffins and peaches picked that morning. Today we had zucchini walnut pancakes with homemade peach syrup , bacon, eggs, fresh peaches. Yum! It is located right on the main street so easy walk to all the shops, wine tasting rooms and restaurants. read more

I've stayed at this Inn several times. I absolutely love it. My husband and I have a favorite room that we prefer in fact. I love the originality of the home and appreciate that the era is preserved w/o attempted updates. I love that breakfast is in the main house as it would be had we lived there with everyone eating at the same table. Very authentic. Swinging beds are an interesting twist. Great town and massage at Refresh for $60 an hour. How can you go wrong?! read more

We so look forward to our stays at this unique and charming B&B. Besides the well-appointed cottages, each with its own sweet personality, garden setting, and both individual and shared patio seating arrangements, the owner, Lindsay, couldn't do enough for us. We took a cottage for my parents, the "Garden Room", and a room in the main house, the "Library Room", for my brother, girlfriend and me. These lovely little homes unto themselves contained many amenities thoughtfully placed to ensure comfort and delight the eye. An artist who works in clay sculptures, Lindsay is well rounded and informed, openly engaging in on just about any topic you wish to discuss. In the mellow breeze of a lovely afternoon under an umbrella on the well-groomed lawn, we shared an unhurried conversation on the area's history and recent events. We brought out appetizers and Lindsay provided crackers as we chatted until dinnertime. When Lindsay learned of our mutual friends in Sutter Creek, she graciously invited them at her own cost to a sumptuous breakfast in the morning. After dinner at Teresa's Place on Jackson Gate Road, we returned and found Lindsay still willing to assist with details of where we could listen to music or engage in other activities. When we appeared undecided, she offered her own dance floor, taking us into a converted barn and playing music so we could dance until ready for a peaceful sleep. In the morning, as a group, we shared a delectable breakfast of gourmet omelettes, meat, fresh cut fruit, juice, and biscuits with homemade jam. We sat together, old friends in their 90's, parents in their mid-80's, to teenagers, my relatives and hers, reflecting on what a lovely time we'd enjoyed in this town I'd lived in from the ages of 3 to 12. After breakfast, we strolled the many brick walkways of the gardens between and among the cottages, admiring foxglove, calendula, lavender, and so many other plants of bright color and wafting fragrance. Truly incomparable. How we hated to have to depart. Thank you, Lindsay, for being a truly memorable host, the best of a genre of innkeepers. read more

We were here for Music in the Street Amador City sadly the only designated area for smokers is right out side the front entrance we had to walk through a huge ploom of smoke all over our clothes in our hair not real pleasant. The room was nice, the staff was nice, they let us know about the many things to see close to the area just sorry we were here for one night. read more

Had a very nice stay here for two nights. The owners are friendly and the breakfast which is included is excellent. Hot, made fresh, filling. The breakfast AND the taxes ARE included in their rates which i did not realize when i made this reservation. So that is important to know if you are comparing the cost to other hotels. When you pay, there is nothing extra- just the posted rate since it includes all taxes and fees. The gardens are fun to poke around and the location is right in town, but our room was very quiet and cozy. read more

This has been our 2nd visit to Sutter Creek Inn and love it! This morning was especially unique at breakfast as we were joined by the owner Lindsay and a guest named Gloria who told us her first visit to the Inn was in 1966, the same year the original owner, Jane Way (Lindsay"s mother), bought the property. We could have sat for hours listening to the stories of the rich history of the Inn as we dined on a wonderfully cooked breakfast along with the other guests. The rooms are peaceful and loaded with character along with private patios to sit and enjoy a drink (or three) with your loved one as you unwind from the days adventures. The Inn is nestled in the quiet downtown of Sutter Creek and is convenient to all of the necessities of life. Make sure your appetite is ready for the wonderful breakfast served each morning in a family atmosphere with other guest where the conversation amongst them makes for a great beginning to your day. We stayed in the Tool Shed with lots of light, a private patio and a swinging bed! The Sutter Creek Inn is a great way to get away and relax in peace and quiet and is reasonably priced. Was a bit put off at first by the fact that this was the only B&B in the entire county with availability last weekend. However....what a wonderful spot! Swinging bed makes you feel like a babe in arms. Beautiful wood burning fireplace, huge tub. Romantic, relaxing..walking distance to at least 5 tasting rooms - can't beat it! read more

We came for our 22nd anniversary. We stayed in the storage room. It was extremely spacious and very private! The alley entrance was very charming. Breakfast was perfect both days we were there, we just had to be sure to follow the rules ( 9am sharp). It was extremely hot in town (100+) so the air conditioning was a definite plus! Room problems- we had to bring to the managers attention when room was not made up, trash not emptied, bathroom sink not cleaned, fresh towels, curtain tore and had to take our sheets off the bed to be washed because we stayed a week. Room needs a deep cleaning behind everything. Very disappointed in our stay. Very quaint town and Inn. Food was wonderful but a bit pricey. read more

Recently stayed again at the Sutter Creek Inn which has been my favorite place to 'getaway' for over 25 years! Quiet, charming, cozy rooms (many with fireplaces). The breakfast they serve is out of this world, and the staff is always friendly. This B&B was the first B&B to open west of the Mississippi in 1966. Jane Way, the owner, recently passed away, but her daughter continues to carry the charge. I always love reading the notes left by previous guests in the guest booklets that are in every room. On my last trip we met three retired airline pilots and their wives who've been here many times as well as a couple from Great Britain who were staying for their third time. I think the freqency of these well traveled guests will give the reader an idea of the popularity of this Inn. The Inn is smack in the middle of Sutter Creek, which has got to be one of the most charming of all the old gold mine towns along famous route 49. Tom D. 9/15/11 read more

Fantastic old home in a historic location, beautiful gardens surrounding it. Rooms are a little dated and could benefit from a remodel however it adds a unique charm to the hotel, Be aware breakfast is awesome but not very vegetarian/vegan friendly. Parking is tight however it's the same for any place in Sutter Creek. I've stayed here many times and have had no issues, wouldn't think of staying anyplace else in town! read more

I was looking for an inn in Amador County to stay. I only wanted a Saturday night because I have a newborn and couldn't leave her for two nights. I called in the afternoon and talked to a gentleman. I told him I only wanted a Saturday night and asked if he had any available rooms for a month away. He said they were almost all available and then we processed to talk about which rooms I would like best (patio). I called back at 7:00 to make my reservation and a different man answered the phone. He said that there is a two night minimum on the weekends. I then explained my earlier conversation with one of his staff members. He said that the gentleman had made a mistake, he's new and young and he would not be giving me a room for 1 night. I said that I thought they should honor that because one of THEIR employees told me this. He says everyone makes mistakes in life and this was not his problem. Very poor customer service. read more

Went to the Lion's Club Crabfeed in Sutter Creek and decided to stay at the Sutter Creek Inn. Best decision we've made in a very long time. It is the first official B&B in Northern California and is run by the daughter of the original owner, Jane Way. The yard is beautiful and welcoming, though it is winter. We stayed in the Library Room and OMG, the mattress is wonderful. Nothing can beat the family-style breakfast at 9 a.m. sharp. A big bell rings to let you know it is time to sit at the table. The pancakes are to die for, thin little pieces of heaven. We are going to explore the area and definitely will be staying at the Inn again and again.
