I was looking for a nail place 2 days before New Years, and this place was one of the closest to my hotel. I'd never made a better decision in my life! (YES, EVEN WHEN IT'S ABOUT NAILS!) I'm from Los Angeles, and I know our nail salons are s**t because they're trying to get in too many people within the hour. My nails end up looking like they're a few weeks old, and they chip within a few days. Most of the good salons upcharge you because, well, it's Los Angeles. So I get there late Friday evening, and there was one spot open for my gel manicure. Pearl ended up taking care of me. She is the sweetest manicurist I've ever met... AND THE BEST. Her nail polish application and skills were just beyond me. I've never seen anyone pay more attention to handling and cleaning my nails, and she made sure my cuticles were PERFECT. I wish she was in Los Angeles, because I would just hire her as my personal manicurist if I had the money. So Pearl, if you're reading this, please tell me when you're coming to LA! I am a licensed esthetician so cleanliness is everything to me and taking a risk for nail shops is always a scary thing but this place exceeds my expectations! Their gel manicures last me a long time and is always good quality. Good quality nail polish is as well they even have OPI! I was pretty disappointed with the job I had done. My roommate recommended Sutter Nails so maybe I just got a bad person but I probably won't go back. For one she seemed annoyed with any request I made, to make my nails shorter, more round, etc. Eventually I just gave up because she just seemed angry and wasn't really understanding to begin with. When I left I immediately took a picture, each of my nails was shaped differently and she didn't even paint my whole nail so it looked like I had already had growth. Now, not even one week later, multiple nails are lifting, there are three that have chipped and it looks like I haven't gotten my nails done in weeks. DO NOT GO HERE!! Last week I went to Sutter Nails since my regular manicurist (of 25+ years!) was on vacation. Today I went to my regular manicurist who pointed out that I now had (3) fingernails with a fungus! I am totally disgusted. I have never had a fingernail fungus, though I got a toenail fungus many years ago from Angie's Nails. It is apparent that Sutter Nails does NOT use clean utensils nor does NOT know the proper way to do nails, otherwise I would not have this first time nail fungus. I am so upset. I wish there was something I could do to boycott this salon! For any of you who have never had a nail fungus, it is something you will live with for the rest of your life. It never goes away, even when you use the liquid anti-fungal formulas available at drug stores. I have been applying the liquid formula to my toenails for over 15 years. It helps to keep the fungus in check, but if you don't use it daily, it will get really bad. There are oral prescription medications available, but they are really hard on your liver, and not recommended by most doctors. I am so upset that I went to this salon. Ugh. read more

Got a last minute mani/pedi on a Friday for a concert the next day. The color was supposed to match my beige dress but not even 5 hrs later it started changing colors. Idk if the gel top coat they use is expired but it went from shiny to a cloudy murky brown. I thought it might have been something I touched & ended up switching the color on my own. Yesterday I stopped by to make an appointment but after reading reviews & seeing another girl have the same too coat issue I decided to skip it and not come back. Service: regular manicure & pedicure Hopefully this isn't the case by the time you read this review, but I'm so surprised by the less than 4-star rating Sutter Nails has on Yelp. As a person new to San Francisco, the prices in the city for get a regular mani-pedi made me almost want to go the entire summer without getting my nails done. But I found Sutter nails online and it was the most reasonably priced salon I could find, considering the price of living in the city. They did an exceptional job!! I thought there was going to be a wait because all of the chairs were full except to open pedicure seats, but I walked in, picked my color, and sat in that chair within two minutes. I'm usually really picky about making sure that the nail polish is painted on evenly and there's no space between my cuticle and the color, but they were on it! I didn't even have to say anything, they just did a really great job! Jenny was so sweet and full of energy! I can't wait to go back. Finger nail polish still intact on tenth day! Absolutely perfect and I have been rough with my hands. Go figure...

So I had came in here on September 6, which was a Tuesday, to get a full set (acrylic) and a pedicure. The guy that did my hands was whatever, seemed disinterested, while the woman that did my toes was great. So that following Friday & Saturday I had two nails pop off, meaning all the acrylic and fake tip came off. No pain when they came off either, meaning it wasn't put on well. So then I came back in today, September 12, to get it redone by the same man. He asked how long it's been since my last set. Like "hello, you just saw me! Don't try to deny your own work!" I have my receipt as well showing my proof of purchase and I still got charged for the redo! I am in the beauty service industry as well, and understand how important it is to try to make the guest happy and mend that relationship as well as fix any work that is wrong. I was traveling for business and I needed to get my gel manicure removed and re-done. I looked up a few places but decided to go into suttee nails because it was close to my hotel. When I walked in I was told to choose from a bunch of colors which was great. While I sat for my pedicure another technician proceeded to file my nails in order to place foil with acetone to remove gel. She filed a few nails so much I felt the heat from the file and asked that she just keep my nails with acetone a bit longer and not to file. As soon as she placed foils on all of them she started to use a metal tool to scrape what I had on the first nail she had wrapped. It wouldn't budge. I asked her to wait some more. I didn't want my nail thinned. It's the removal of gel that messes up the nail. I've been doing gel manicures off and on for a few years. I know my nails. Once I was done with the pedicure I went to use the bathroom with NO disposable slippers. Very unsanitary. As she was applying the gel I felt like she wasn't giving it enough time to cure. She applied two coats. After the top coat she proceeded to remove the film with a cotton soak. The polish was not yet cured so she ended up smudging the polish. She then attempted to fix it by filing the nail and placing another coat. It didn't look great but I was tired and figured it could live with it. The next day I could see the areas that she had painted on to my skin around the cuticle had lifted. Only one day....to add insult to injury I went in and showed them what happened asking for a refund. I didn't feel comfortable with them fixing them that o asked for a refund. I was told that it was my fault because I didn't not allow them to file my nail and that I should not come back. Even the way they handled the incident should speak volumes. Needless to say. I was amazed at the quality of service for a simple manicure with very short nails...The technician. name not sure, but she was from Viet Nam. was so methodical... She did not rush, but took the time to dry [quickly] nails in between coats, this was a first for me... I used the Essie long-wearing polish and top coat... The people who give this place good ratings really don't know any better. I came in for a regular manicure and the manicure in itself was mediocre to say the least. But the reason it's getting a low review is because they tried to cheat me. I went up to the desk to pay and the lady gave me a price that was higher than the price on the banner behind the desk. You might think, 'honest mistake', but she didn't realize that I am Vietnamese (I know I don't look it at all) and I understood everything she said. Both of the ladies behind the desk were conspiring to cheat me and said I wouldn't know any better. Plus, my friend got a hideous design on her nail that she didn't even want, and they tried to charge me for it. I have consistently gone to Sutter Nails because they treated me well. The nail and wax work were very well done. I always tipped extra because I was so pleased. However, I'm very sad to have to start looking for a new place because they take their loyal customers for granted. Once I became a regular, the service went down the tubes. My manicures barely last 3 days now. There are pieces of cuticle still hanging on. They rush me out in order to give a tourist who's just strolled in the star treatment. Tonight I went in (it's a cold night) and she filled the spa chair basin with cold water!!! It really sucks because they used to be so nice and their work was so good. One of the worst manicure/ pedicures I have gotten since the addiction began. 1) I called ahead to see whether an immediate walk in was possible. The ladies in the salon promptly answered yes, so I got to the salon 2 minutes later. Unfortunately, I still had to sit and wait for approximately half an hour before someone actually started on my nails. 2) Per the usual, I got gel on my hands and a normal polish on the toes. The toes were fine- not exceptional, but no complaints there. My nails, however, were horribly done. After the second layer, there were already wrinkles dried into the polish. I asked the nail artist why, and her only response was, "I put on the top coat now." Right, as if top coat would make it better. I tried to push the subject, but obviously she was ignoring me because she didn't want to take the time to fix it. At this point I'm already annoyed, especially given the $65 price point I was quoted for this "relaxing spa experience." 3) The place clearly states that they accept card, but when prompted to pay, they will push for cash. It was raining outside, but the lady, when she saw that I was going to pay with card, she asked me to walk next door to the ATM to get cash. Absolutely not. After around 5 minutes of arguing with the lady, she finally accepted my card. At this point, I was still going to tip as is customary, but found that there was no spot on the receipt to do so. I had absolutely no cash on me, so I just signed and left. Unsurprisingly, as I was walking out the door, the whispers and side glances started. Sorry I didn't leave a tip for your horrendous service. As I was walking outside, I tried to take a look at what ATM she was referring to next door as I have never noticed one there before. I realized that it was an ATM in the 7-11 next door. Are you serious, nail salon employee? You want me to pay an ATM convenience charge of $3 to get out cash so that you can save $0.30 on your credit card transaction? Other notes: -Salon is big, but gets busy and is cramped full of people waiting to get their nails done. Probably other people who called in ahead and was told there was availability. -I sat in a massage spa chair, but it was definitely not a relaxing experience. If you get gel, they put the machines on top of you and you are just struggling to hang on to them the entire time so they don't topple onto the floor. The side tables for soaking are cluttered and two customers can be using one table at once. Crowded. Nail artists on top on nail artists on top of customers. read more

Okay. I NEVER get waxing done anywhere but a place that specializes in it. Except eyebrows from time to time. However, being in need of a Brazilian and not willing to pay an arm and a leg for one, I checked out the reviews for different places and saw this place had actually gotten some good ones for brazilians. First of all... Are you nuts?! I almost don't even want to relive this experience... Not only did they double dip for my Brazilian, THEY DOUBLE DIPPED FOR MY UNDERARMS. After my Brazilian. Yes, you read that right, AFTER my Brazilian. They use the same wax for your eyebrows, lip, underarms, and vag. Not only that, she did an awful job at getting rid of my hair. I'm not a hairy person as I get waxed regularly, so seriously... A little attention to detail doesn't hurt. Either way.. Gross. I was so repulsed. Never coming back. I decided to come here and try the place out because the reviews on yelp. I walked in i told them i wanted to get a gel french manicure.. Tammy was the doing the service on me.. I noticed how she didn't fully scraped off all of the previous shellac that was on my nail.. She kept filing off the color which made my nails thinner as if it wasn't already.. She didn't push back my cuticles before nipping it... I didn't like the way she filed my nails one side was longer than the other.. I didn't notice it until after she put on the gel.. The fun part was i asked her has she ever done french gel tip before.. She kept saying yes.. When i over heard her talking to her co worker how she don't know how in vietnamese.. I was like okay fine whatever... She obviously didn't know how to paint it.. Her co worker said just practice painting on her.. She knew that she couldnt paint i didn't understand why she would have her paint my nails.. i am paying her to do my nails.. if she wants to practice just go back to school and do it.. She made some of the tip way too thick and another girl came and fixed it and said to tammy (the one that did my nails) how she filed my nails in a weird shape.. And tammy said i just have ugly nails.. And the rest of the other ladys started commenting about my nails.. Not cool.. After 2 hrs i was finally done... I went to the register.. The lady (i think the owner.. Shes short and have big lips) is this the first time here? I said yes.. And she told me its $35.. I paid her and i said thank you to her in vietnamese.. All the ladys in the shop had were shocked.. she's like oh i didn't know you were vietnamese..Then she started to be super nice to me and she oh next time u come back here.. We will take care of you.. .. I left and i looked at my nails i had gunks of white polish under neath my nails!!! It was painful how they just used their nails and digg under my nails and pricking the skin under neath my nail now its sensitive.. Never coming back here again.. these ladies are not professional at all.. I will stick with sensi nail spa by my home.. They actually do everything very carefully.. Fine manicure, however there was a totally unacceptable noise level, due to manicurists carrying on a non-stop conversation. I would not have believed that four women could produce so much noise, had I not been there to witness it. Ladies, this is a service business, you are here to make sure your clients are happy and return. This is not a "girls night out"! It's very rude to carry on a conversation that excludes others (due to a language barrier). I was unable to read or relax. woohoo yelp rescues my waxing crisis! it has been about 4-6 weeks and it is time for my brazilian and i called my regular waxer tammy (pampered nails by tammy) this morning and oh no, she's out for the next 3 weeks due to a family emergency! i hope everything is okay but damn what was i going to do? go to yelp of course! well to my surprise sutter nails which is literally right across the street from tammy's and only $5 more for the brazilian wax had great reviews and had time for an appointment today. jenny was awesome! this place is huge and clean. they are super sanitary. jenny pointed out that she uses a plastic spoon to take wax from her heater and places it into a plastic bowl, which she then throws away after. this is so that the waxing stick only goes into the bowl (which she will throw away) and therefore germs are not spread. NICE! i like how she takes the time to explain it. and they give you a hot towel after! jenny was super fast and really nice. brazilian cost $35. although i noticed she didn't put any of the cooling gel or other stuff that tammy does after but totally fine. now i don't know who i want to go back to? but i am so happy to know i have 2 options for when i need to get my business done! :) yay read more

This place was quite disappointing. my pedicure lasted an entire 15 mins. i know because that's how long the massage chair auto setting was. I mean I don't expect to be pampered for hours on end but the job was just sloppy. My feet weren't even toweled off before they slathered on some lotion, which didn't even get rubbed in before they wiped it all off with a wet towel. Like others mentioned, they don't let you wait until your nails to dry before they rush you off the chairs. eyebrow wax was equally rushed. it was like wax wax boom done. I was out the door within 25 min total and more than $50 out. one star for good opi nail color selection and nice spa chairs (if only i got to sit in them for longer though!) plus one star for the aloe vera they put on after the wax. read more

I have been going to this nail salon for over two years. I am very particular about my acrylic nails. These ladies have never once grummbled nor gotten huffy with my high maintenance antics. They are the epitome of customer service. They are always warm, welcoming and hospitable, and not to mention very fast! In addition to the great customer care, they are very clean. I finally found time to review this awful business. The owners are nice. Some of the ladies are somewhat friendly but the others not so. It's really uncomfortable when they start talking in their language and laughing. It reminds me if that Seinfeld episode when Elaine was being made fun of as she was getting her nails done. This place gets busy. They get a lot of poor saps like the tourists and some locals. Prices are to be expected around Union Square. I've gone to this place for mani and pedi and also to get my eyebrow waxed. My few experiences with them were always unpleasant. What I noticed about this business is that they are very devious. As I sat there and getting my nails done, a man came in to get his lashes tinted. When he was done, he comes out and pulls out his wallet to pay. The owner tells him of it's possible to pay cash instead because she gets charged for using credo cards or debit cards. So she suggested to this customer to go use the ATM machine inside 7 Eleven which is next door to get cash. While that customer looked baffled, I was thinking to myself "wow, it's okay for the customer to go get charged of an ATM fee but not you?" I thought that was lame. I think he was caught off guard that he didn't say anything. Now the third time I came here I had a manicure. The usual lady who does my eyebrows did my nails. I like her. She does a great job arching my eyebrows. Here's my complaint. When she was done with my nails, she asked me to go to the room where there was another lady who was waiting for me to do my eyebrows. I'm like uhm...I preferred the one I always go to but whatever. So I realized why they do this and the few times I've seen them do it. It's because they get tipped separately as supposed to me just tipping the same woman ... AGAIN who always did my eyebrows. I would have tipped her her a few more had she just done both my nails and eyebrows. To me that's greedy. I understand they make a living through tips but that move tells me that this is not about preserving your customers. That's just being assholes. The lady who does my eyebrows, you lost a relationship with me. Good customer service should be built as a relationship and not about money. In the end, I could have been your most loyal customer and I would have tipped you because you would have been my favorite "go to" gal. read more
