Came here a week or so back with some friends and it did not disappoint. It may be because I've got a Korean food obsession right now but this place absolutely hit the spot. Their fried chicken is to die for and they even bring you the gloves (which if I'm being honest I wouldn't use in the future because you can just wash your hands after and not contribute to plastic waste, but it was a fun and authentic feeling touch). Everything was fantastic and it had a really laid back vibe. We stayed and chatted for hours and the food was pretty reasonably priced. Parking is indeed a little tight but we got street parking no problem and its walking distance to the max as well. Korean Pocha places are slowly popping up in the Portland area one at a time, and I'm proud to see that the Asian food scene is growing here in my hometown. But as someone who lives in a different city now with a bigger Asian (and truthfully better) food scene, I do have some critiques. Their parking is very tight, you might have better luck parking on the road instead. But once you come in, the service is friendly and the menu has everything a pocha should have. Items we ordered included: Tteokbokki, Pajeon (Green Onion Pancake), Spicy Pork Belly, and Half/Half of the Original and Yang-Nyum Chicken. Tteokbokki was pretty standard, made the way it should be. For the pajeon, I think there is a lot of work that needs to be done. It was very soft and chewy all over, it SHOULD have a crispyness to the outside that adds a satisfying bite. My friend and I thought it resembled more like a Vietnamese banh xeo honestly. Spicy Pork Belly was pretty good, and had lots of grilled veggies alongside it. And for the chicken, great crisp but the skin did taste quite oily. All in all, food was decent, would recommend ordering soju or other drinks to pair with all this food. I've had my fair share of Pochas now, and have been to many better ones. But for Portland, this is very much satisfactory when you're out with a group of friends. read more

Dan was super chill and nice. He's new to the establishment and took good care of me. This place almost feels a little out of place. Like it shouldn't be there but then you walk on by and the smells of the korean comfort food lures you in. And when you're in, you're hooked. I'm lowkey sad that I don't live here because every plate that came out looked like it should be in my mouth. The prices are pretty up there, but it feels like it is worth it. I went with the Korean Fried Chicken - half order. It came with 5 pieces and was just the right enough for one person. I asked Dan, the front of house staff / cashier how hot is the sauce and he said not very. Then I asked if there's another sauce they can give me from another meal and he asked the kitchen staff and they obliged which is not the norm but I appreciated. They gave me a little sample and when I said it could go a bit spicier, some of the staff came out to see who was ordering something so spicy. Clearly not the norm in Portland. it's a cozy spot and super casual spot. You can't go wrong here. You'll spend about 25 dollars per meal for sure tho. I wasn't particularly craving KFC, but this place exceeded my expectation. read more

I'd give this place about 3.5 stars. The food is overpriced but it tastes okay for the most part. My bibimbap was exceptionally flavorless but the corn cheese was good. Very limited banchan provided. The service was okay, I kept having to ask them to bring me things when they were near instead of them checking in on me. Our main dishes took about 15 minutes to come out after our starter. The space is relatively small but they have a good amount of tables. Overall, the food is just okay and the prices are high. Not worth the risk of being in the area for. read more

Kind of disappointed w/ food quality. Nothing terrible but not quite good. We were hoping to try some things like pollock soup but they took it off the menu as well as several other things it seems as they probly weren't popular enough. They do have Jokbal (steamed pork hocks) but we weren't hungry enough so just went w/ fried chicken & green onion pancake, both of which were underwhelming. The pancake was a bit too greasy. The fried chicken we did half original half spicy sweet sauce. It was fried well but had no flavor, like they didn't marinate at all. And the yangyum sauce tasted like straight up Mae ploy chili sauce, way too sweet, runny & weak. I do see some reviews complaining about the dive bar vibe, FYI that's what a pocha is - a dive bar for late night drinks & food. read more

Cozy and casual, this spot is perfect for a fun dinner and drinking. Menu was extensive with Korean comfort food/street food like fried chicken and tteokbokki. We got a bunch of things and really enjoyed their meat dishes like the Jokbal which came with a banger salad and sauces. Their Fried Chicken, both bone-in and boneless, were very crispy and fresh. The Bibimbap and Tteokbokki weren't bad just could be more flavorful. Staffs were very friendly. Again, ambience was very chill with a few small tables. Decent prices too. read more

They Had a great sweet-and-sour sauce on them but honestly next time I think I would prefer to try the bone in wings. toboke it was also worth trying but a little spicy for my pallet personally. Fantastic hole in the wall restaurant in northeast Portland. The staff were incredibly nice, and everything came out quickly. I collect shot glasses, and I wanted to buy one of theirs cuz they're cute. Asked how much they were and our server gave one to me! Incredibly sweet. I went with a friend and we ordered tteokbokki, cheese corn, the seafood kimchi pancake (my favorite thing! Crispy, salty, flavorful), and half marinated half normal fried chicken (literally the crispiest fried chicken of my life, can't recommend enough). The chicken pieces here are HUGE! The batter to make the chicken crispy is really good. I felt that the flavoring could be a little better. The chicken itself is bland, so you definitely need sauce or kimchee on the side to make it more appetizing. They serve side radish but only a few pieces. Not sure if they charge extra for more. Stockton today by mistake. I thought it was soul food SOUL. When I got in, I was shocked to see a Korean menu. I like trying new places so I figured what the heck I'm here. I ordered chicken with Korean sauce and some onion rings. The onion rings were a bit hard. The breading was a little crispy. But the flavor was OK. I also had the chicken which was very good. The sauce, sesame seeds and the cooking were really spot on. The server was very kind and helpful. The only bad thing I can say about the place is other than the seating area. The place is pretty trashy. It's quite the mess. If I were to take a picture of the dining side, it would look like a fantastic place to be, but if I turn my head the other direction towards the bar, it's pretty crappy I won't recommend this place because it's pretty rundown pretty messy and doesn't look too safe. Now that I know what to expect I may or may not bring anyone here. It's tempting because of the chicken, but maybe I'll pass. read more

Awesome service and the food was really yummy. I'm so glad this ended up being my last meal in Portland. The chicken was so crispy and juicy, and the sauce was exactly my kind of flavor, sweet and savory. It was worth the price too, you get 10 pieces total. This very unassuming dive bar is a gem. All the servers had smiles on their faces and we felt welcome the moment we stepped in! The menu is small but from the few visits i've had, i can tell that a lot of love goes into every dish. I will eat here many more times in the future. read more

This is a tasty new lunch spot by work. The fried chicken was delightfully crispy and flavorful. The place isn't much from the outside but inside is cozy and eclectic. Even looks like they've got a great little bar. I was immediately greeted upon arrival and through out my meal the waiter was very attentive. Everything came out so hot. The food was very fresh. Great Korean spot on the east side, definitely holds up to first street on the west side. Service was great, attentive, and above all, food tasted great. Jjajang Myun (black bean noodles): great Wok Hei flavor, a little heavy on the onions but I love onions, great chew on the noodles. Order a side of rice and you'll have a great time after you finish the noodles. 9/10 Kimchi Seafood Pancake: great texture, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They use great quality ingredients and they don't skimp on the seafood. Kimchi flavor comes through nicely but is not overpowering. 8.5/10 King Jokbal: now this is where I was a bit disappointed. This one looked and felt like it was perhaps an older batch, the skin and fat was nicely rendered but the meat itself was dry, basically crumbling. A bit too salty as well, but the flavor is there. They provide all the necessary sides (lettuce, raw garlic, salted baby shrimp, etc.) and I had high hopes. I really need to try this again to see if it was just an issue on that day, but it had high potential. Again the flavor profile is there it was just overseasoned and dry. If those two things change this would be the best Jokbal in Portland, but as is, 6/10. Seafood Soondooboo: I suspect they use the same broth for their Jjanmpong but this isn't a bad thing, it still tastes delicious. Rich, good amount of spice, great quality seafood ingredients, big chunk of soondooboo instead of broken up, and seasoned to perfection. This will warm you up on a cold day, loved this one: 9.5/10 Yangnyum fried chicken: I didn't try the normal fried chicken but if I ordered this again, I would try that instead. I don't think they double fried or perhaps they didn't fry this at high enough temp but the skin wasn't as crunchy as i would have liked. Flavor is there and the chicken is very juicy, just wish the skin held up to the sauce. They provide you gloves and the pickled radish so that's a great plus. 7/10 Banchan: kimchi, stir fried fish cake, and soy pickled radish. All tasted great, and they refill upon request. No idea if this rotates as I've only been there once but it's the bare minimum and they all taste good. Really excited to have a new Korean spot on the east side that is putting the pressure on any new spots that open up. Portland is long overdue for great Korean food. Unbelievable what they did to me. Never been an Udon guy, always felt they lacked flavor. After exploring my palate at this location, it's my favorite noodle. I don't have the words to match. I'd heard this place was wonderful and I finally got a chance to try it. We got fried chicken, jajangmyeon and pajeon. The pajeon was a little oily but delicious and fluffy, different than other pajeon I've had and very worthwhile. The fried chicken was very oily and lacking in flavor. The jajangmyeon was decent. My digestive system was thrown off by the food, atypical for me when I eat Korean food. We had two servers, one was very friendly, helpful and seemed to care that we were there, the other is missing his calling at another job or perhaps just wanted to get back to his Instagram feed.
