Playing catch upon reviews. About a month back, dined in, and then a few weeks ago ordered take out. I had been crazy busy and hadn't been cooking much, and eating more junk. The plan was to order some yummy stuff, and some vegetables. It was all fresh and delicious!! The staff is also very friendly and welcoming. I recommend the mixed-vegetable Deluxe. Onions, broccoli, zucchini, onions, bok choy, so good!! In a very light sauce. We get 4 servings out of it. We also like the pepper salted shrimps, and the pot stickers. read more

Started with some very flavorful pot stickers, and tea. We had three different lunch entrees, two were flavorful and packed with protein. The third was mostly celery, which most Chinese restaurants use as a filler instead of boc choy. Very personable waitress, and the restaurant was spotless. Odd location, but right next door is an ice cream shop that looks inviting, we're going to give it a try next time. This restaurant deserves 5 stars, but the one dish had Iike 50% celery and that's a total bummer for us. We're going to make one more trip down there and try something new and different. read more

How did we miss this gem for so long?We've lived a mile from Hoho's since it opened, and had nearly given up trying to find a Chinese restaurant that would fill the hole left by years of San Francisco's and Hong Kong's offerings. We've tried many Portland restaurants, but none came close. I'll confess, I tried to forget my sorrow in the warm embrace of Thai food. Alas, Irving Street's family style bean curd haunted me, so my search continued, thankfully. We came for lunch on Valentine's Day and were greeted cheerfully by the hostess. Our server was quick and helpful, answering our questions and giving personal recommendations while we sipped our tea and perused the large menu. The lunch special included delicious hot and sour or egg flour soup, a full pot of rice, and dinner-sized platters of our dishes. All came to our table steaming. HoHo's homestyle bean curd made my heart sing again. Lovely texture, just the right seasoning, and paired with a beautiful fresh medley of vegetables. My partner enjoyed the broccoli beef with equal pleasure. As a vegetarian, I'll add that the Chinese broccoli was perfection. We're already planning our return, me especially looking forward to sampling the other tofu and bean curd dishes, as well as the array of vegetable offerings. Cheers HoHo! read more

There used to be a lot of Chinese restaurants in Portland, but those days are gone. Now half the places you try are clones by other names serving reheated frozen Sisco slop. Ho Ho is an exception. The sesame beef is brilliant. They have fast efficient service, and a really nice space. I would have given them a perfect five stars, but the steamed rice was a little dry. I haven't been here in probably eight years. I came here with a friend expecting to get the same quality of food and a quiet atmosphere that we could enjoy and have a conversation. I was not disappointed! The restaurant seemed to be run by family as I saw what looked like three generations there. The service was excellent, the Homestyle Beancurd from the lunch menu was very tasty and I took home leftovers to have for lunch the next day. I will be coming back really soon! First time here on a friends recommendation. We were greeted quickly by the friendly staff. We ordered the kung pao chicken and orange flavored chicken - both lunch specials to go. I was informed that they do not include the soup on to go orders. I was alright with that but a bit bummed. We went outside to wait. The staff came outside and asked if we'd like the soup while we waited. My daughters and I were happy to have the soup. Even though we should have only gotten 2 soups, she brought out 3. The egg flower soup we had was great! Wonderfully flavorful with the right amount of egg, tofu and veggies. Our food was ready pretty quickly and we headed home. The portion size was pretty big. I tried Hohos for the first time the other night and I was very impressed. I came in to make a Togo order and the restaurant was empty so I think it's safe to say most people do takeout here. The menu was extensive and it was hard to decide what I wanted. Lots of tofu and vegetable options. I got the general tsos tofu, salt and pepper tofu and veggie spring rolls. The entrees came with a side of rice and it was all AMAZING. The general tso tofu was hands down my favorite thing. The flavor was phenomenal and the tofu was cooked perfectly. The salt and pepper tofu was also delicious and came with garlic onions. I preferred the general tso because of all of the sauce!!! The springs were so crunchy and delicious but came with a clear sauce I didn't try. I just used soy sauce and it was great. Our order was ready within 5-10 minutes and I was not expecting it to be ready so fast. 10/10 would recommend this Chinese food. read more

Blacks get treated differently than whites when picking up orders. They are pretty obvious about it too. They go from smiling and handing them their order order to the white person, then asking to closely see my phone, verify the name and watch me click accept before they will hand over the order. Not only have they done this once, but another time as well. It's documented prejudice. They should be ashamed. read more

I love the Chinese food here and the customer service. The lunch menu is so reasonable - my favorite is "Happy Family" where you get a little bit of everything - seafood, assorted meats, an and a great selection of vegetables. I love the fresh green beans, and egg plant. The seafood clay pot is a favorite of my daughter. For dinner, Happy Family is served on a very hot pan and it does sizzle! Check out the lunch specialties on the board for what is fresh and flavorful for the day! I love the proprietor as she is always warm and friendly, and makes adjustments to the dishes as needed (she can adjust the spiciness, and ingredients as needed). It is near St Ignatius church, and a great location to meet with my friends from church. My background is Chinese but American-born, and I'm not going down the road of whether it is authentic. It's just great food, the type my mother would cook, and my type of ambiance - casual, relaxed, and warm. read more

Even with all the mixed reviews, we decided to give it a try for lunch. We were not disappointed. Maybe they are reading the reviews and are actively trying to improve. Ordered from the lunch menu and everything was great. The portions were big, and sauces were flavorful just the way we like it. Not too salty, not too sweet, the sauces, seasonings, herbs, and the fire wok (aka wok hei is the smoky flavor) flavor did all the work. The lady was very nice and polite as well. Horrible food!!! Ordered "crab puffs " which had no crab in it !!! Inside was cream cheese that tasted old ! Also for Chow mein dish , tasted sooo bad. Noodles were dry only a few chicken pieces and veggies were so soggy .... I don't leave reviews often , but this was just horrible. read more

I've ordered from this restaurant countless times, and I've always loved their chow mein. However, today there were 2 grubs in my order. I had eaten a couple bites before I found them. An amazing 'standard chinese' place. There is so much Pho, Thai, korean, etc in portland now, but not that many good ol' chinese places. The classics you know and love are here. General Tso's tastes just how it should-amazing. Portion size is great, and lunch specials are a huge deal. You dont think you appreciate a place like this until you are let down by the alternatives, then you finally get it. I never take the time to write a review but this was so bad I felt the need to warn others simply for health concerns. I ordered the honey walnut shrimp, lo mein and crab puffs. I was starving, immediately ate the honey walnut shrimp and after two seconds spit it out in the sink. The shrimp were really soggy, it tasted like a mayonnaise based sauce, it was absolutely disgusting. Lo mein was edible, but I was turned so off by the shrimp, I couldn't really eat it. The crab puffs has 0 crab in them, just cream cheese. After further investigation realized this place currently has a 76, and has failed many times in the past. Don't eat here. Ever. The Potstickers stood out to me; super juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I also enjoyed the Salt and Pepper Shrimp. The dish was well-seasoned and the shrimps were fresh. Besides those 2 dishes, I thought the other dishes were too heavy, covered with gravy like oyster sauce. The food at Ho Ho is so AMAZING that we drive half way across Portland for dinner. I am a huge fan of their Sesame Beef [so tender!], their Hot & Sour Soup, and their Kung Pao Chicken. The spring rolls are also yummy. Service is prompt and attentive. With this place, it's not about the atmosphere, it's about the food. When we came in I thought it was a good sign that so many people were waiting for takeout and delivery. It must be decent if people want it even if it's just to eat at home. Service was really friendly and prompt. Started with the bbq pork because I feel it's a must when going out for Chinese - was exactly as expected. I wasn't expecting soup, so that was a nice surprise. Egg flower soup was heartier than anyplace I've had it before. We each got our own entree because my partner likes spicy, me not so much. I did taste his though and it was really good. Portions were good sized with fresh ingredients. We were fine with both the quality and quantity of our proteins. I ordered from here to pick up on postmates. The option of Pepper Salted Shrimp because the description said glass noodles included. They did not include the noodles, and when I called to ask to come pick up the noodles that were missed, I was rudely argued with by the First Lady on the phone, then the manager. They consistently told me to take it up with postmates, but they are the ones that I'm sure fill out the menu. They told me I ordered the option without noodles, which on their "delivery menu" on Grubhub is for 13.50$, but the 14.00$ option, also states glass noodles included, the exact description from the postmates order I selected (and also paid 14$, not 13.50 for the noodleless offer they claim I ordered). Finally, after I argued with the manager for a couple minutes and him admitting he would check the menu descriptions on postmates, after first telling me postmates writes the menus, he offered extra noodles next time we ordered there, never offering to let me come get the noodles I planned to, tonight. Why would there ever be another time we order food from them, after this horrible customer service experience. I felt like an ass for trying to complain about this in the first place, but after the way they treated me on the phone, I have to warn others to take their business elsewhere. read more

Pre-COVID this was our go-to "post night out and can't move" delivery spot. Even though I am not going out and partying right now, sometimes I have one of those pandemic days when I just need to indulge and get delivery from here to feel something. My usual: General Tso Chicken - giant pieces of chicken in this one, beware! Chicken Chow Mein - saucy af. Pork Fried Rice - typical and gets the job done. Honey Walnut Shrimp - also saucy af. Thank you Hoho's for being open during this pandemic-- there's nothing better than being an American human and having an American Chinese restaurant to turn to for familiar feelings of yum. It saddens me to give it a measly 2 stars but this cannot go on. It just can't. I have been eating here for many many years it has always been my neighborhood go to Chinese restaurant but lately there have been huge cut backs. I mainly go here for the pepper salted squid and the consistency of the tastiness of the squid has not faltered much (except when they don't change their fryer oil, you can taste the grit) however WHEN IT COMES TO GETTING PEPPER SALTED SQUID TO-GO ITS JUST A RIP OFF! I cannot stay silent. The squid used to come in a standard to-go white Chinese box but because it is prepared fresh the squid would end up soggy due to being in a cramped paper box. So they switched to clear plastic containers... but by doing so you get ripped off. You are paying 11.50 for the squid yet you receive this (refer to my review picture) I have not eaten any pieces and was shocked as hell to find the amount of squid in this box is less than a small bowl of rice. ALL BECAUSE THE BOX HAS RAISED INDENTS which makes it appear they are giving you more squid but are not. I will not be eating here, it's too much of a rip off. read more

It was a Saturday night and we wanted delivery. Caviar was so overloaded that the site kept crashing. Our favorite Indian place said they were too busy. We decided to order from Ho Ho on another delivery app as I remember eating there years ago and thinking it was pretty good. Wrong. For starters,we had the roast pork, which was good enough, but they only gave us a tiny bit of mustard and sauces to dip it in. We also got the General Tso's chicken, which was okay and the Sesame Beef. The beef was overly tenderized and it didn't have the slight crispiness, like our favorite Chinese place does. We also had the Yang Chow fried rice. At our old takeout place, now closed, this was full of shrimp, chicken, pork and bits of beef. Ho Ho's version had a nice flavor, but almost no goodies in it, maybe two shrimp, some peas and nothing else except seasoning. We were definitely disappointed and won't be ordering from here again. read more
