I haven't been here in probably eight years. I came here with a friend expecting to get the same quality of food and a quiet atmosphere that we could enjoy and have a conversation. I was not disappointed! The restaurant seemed to be run by family as I saw what looked like three generations there. The service was excellent, the Homestyle Beancurd from the lunch menu was very tasty and I took home leftovers to have for lunch the next day. I will be coming back really soon! I highly recommend HoHo!

H1. Kung Pao Chicken Lunch Special

First time here on a friends recommendation. We were greeted quickly by the friendly staff. We ordered the kung pao chicken and orange flavored chicken - both lunch specials to go. I was informed that they do not include the soup on to go orders. I was alright with that but a bit bummed. We went outside to wait. The staff came outside and asked if we'd like the soup while we waited. My daughters and I were happy to have the soup. Even though we should have only gotten 2 soups, she brought out 3. The egg flower soup we had was great! Wonderfully flavorful with the right amount of egg, tofu and veggies. Our food was ready pretty quickly and we headed home. The portion size was pretty big. The orange flavored chicken was tasty and the rice done perfectly. The Kung Pao chicken was great - ample chicken, peanuts, veggies and spice! I would definitely come back

I tried Hohos for the first time the other night and I was very impressed. I came in to make a Togo order and the restaurant was empty so I think it's safe to say most people do takeout here. The menu was extensive and it was hard to decide what I wanted. Lots of tofu and vegetable options. I got the general tsos tofu, salt and pepper tofu and veggie spring rolls. The entrees came with a side of rice and it was all AMAZING. The general tso tofu was hands down my favorite thing. The flavor was phenomenal and the tofu was cooked perfectly. The salt and pepper tofu was also delicious and came with garlic onions. I preferred the general tso because of all of the sauce!!! The springs were so crunchy and delicious but came with a clear sauce I didn't try. I just used soy sauce and it was great. Our order was ready within 5-10 minutes and I was not expecting it to be ready so fast. 10/10 would recommend this Chinese food.

Beef chow Mein and egg drop soup

I ordered take out today and was very satisfied. The beef chow Mein (soft noodle) is so flavorful and the meat so tender. The portions are huge. I can eat this 3 times or easily share with another and be full. the egg drop soup was hot and delicious when I got to my destination. only one gripe: No spoon, drank soup

    Look at that flavorful sauce

Even with all the mixed reviews, we decided to give it a try for lunch. We were not disappointed. Maybe they are reading the reviews and are actively trying to improve. Ordered from the lunch menu and everything was great. The portions were big, and sauces were flavorful just the way we like it. Not too salty, not too sweet, the sauces, seasonings, herbs, and the fire wok (aka wok hei is the smoky flavor) flavor did all the work. The lady was very nice and polite as well. The environment is relaxed and it is very welcoming and clean.

Hoho is my family's go to Chinese restaurant for the last few years. We really enjoy eating here!

I've ordered from this restaurant countless times, and I've always loved their chow mein. However, today there were 2 grubs in my order. I had eaten a couple bites before I found them. I'm honestly sad because their food always tasted good, but I'm so grossed out I can't order from there again. I'd just be careful if you're considering the chow mein at least.

First visit was ok. This last delivery was questionable. Improper ingredients, odd textures. Sub par for sure. Will not be returning.

Measured against San Francisco Chinese I give it 4 stars. Measuring it against Chinese in towns like my own Sacramento, I give it 4.5 stars. Love that they offer a Mu Shu chicken option because I don't eat pork - it was really good. A little too heavy on the onion (and the onion was in large pieces instead of blending in more with the dish as I'm used to), but it was still fabulous. The hand cut noodles were as great as advertised - definitely get at least mild spice to get more flavor than the no spicy (that's on me, I'm scared of what Asian restaurants think is "hot," especially Thai and Indian, so I will wasn't taking any chances with it and said no spice). Hubby said bathroom needs a deep clean and maybe a refresh so deducted a bit from that. Service was prompt and nice and not lurking which I appreciate. Lots of tables with Chinese people eating which is always a good sign in my book.

Since we had our dog with us, we ordered everything to go and enjoyed it back at our hotel just down the street. Just a heads up if you're planning the same, there wasn't any outdoor dining available. Being from the SF Bay Area, one of the first things we looked for was Har Gow and Siu Mai, but they weren't labeled the way we're used to. After asking, we found out the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings are their Har Gow, and the Shrimp Siu Mai contains pork, which was exactly what we were looking for. We ordered two of each. We also ordered two Beef Chow Fun, Combination Fried Rice, Eggplant with Minced Pork, Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs, and three pear sodas. The dim sum absolutely hit the spot. The Har Gow and Siu Mai were well seasoned, nicely prepared, and exactly what we had been craving. The Beef Chow Fun was another winner. We were glad we ordered two because we found ourselves reaching for it more than the fried rice. The Eggplant with Minced Pork was also delicious. The eggplant was cooked perfectly -- tender without becoming mushy -- and the seasoning was right on point. I'm also glad we changed our order from the House Special Spare Ribs to the Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs. Unlike many versions, these weren't battered and fried, so the pork maintained a great texture while still being coated in a flavorful sweet and sour sauce. One unexpected favorite was the pear soda. It's made with Asian pear, so the flavor is much lighter and more refreshing than the sweeter pear sodas we're used to. The only hiccup? They're bottled with a traditional cap, and since we were staying in a hotel, we quickly realized we didn't have a bottle opener. Let's just say we got a little creative. One thing I really appreciated was that the staff noticed our large takeout order and packed it thoughtfully. They included six extra takeout containers, plenty of forks, chopsticks, and napkins, which ended up being incredibly helpful since we were eating in a hotel room with no paper plates or utensils. It's a small gesture, but one that definitely didn't go unnoticed. Overall, we were really happy with our meal. This place lived up to being on my bookmark list for over a year, and I'd happily come back the next time we're staying in downtown Portland.

I randomly spotted this place while heading to the movies one night, bookmarked it, and finally came back to try it. We came on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was surprisingly busy, but the staff was very friendly and we were seated right away. We ordered the pork and shrimp XLB, garlic green beans, dry pot spare ribs, and spicy fish. Overall, everything was really good and I'd happily order all of the dishes again. The XLB were juicy, and the dry pot dishes had a lot of flavor. My only small complaint was that I wish the green beans were a little less saucy and more crispy. One of the staff members mentioned they have two other locations as well. Definitely planning to come back with a group of friends next time so we can order even more dishes to share!

The service was good and the staff was attentive during our visit. Here is a breakdown of what we ordered: Hand-Ripped Youpoo Noodle: The absolute star of the meal. The wide, hand-ripped noodles had the perfect chewy texture you look for. They were tossed in a deeply savory, slightly spicy chili oil sauce and topped with a generous amount of perfectly seasoned minced beef and fresh bok choy. It was incredibly satisfying and a must-order. Popcorn Chicken: This was a bit of a letdown. While it looked golden brown and came with a sweet chili dipping sauce, it was not special at all and lacked any unique flavor or punch compared to the other dishes. Spicy Chili Oil Wontons: These were packed with flavor! The wonton wrappers were delicate, and the filling was juicy. They were swimming in a robust, aromatic chili oil that had a nice kick and a touch of vinegar sharpness. Why 4 stars instead of 5? While the noodles and wontons were excellent and the service was good, the atmosphere was a bit uncomfortable. The restaurant was completely empty when we went, but it was super cold inside because the window was wide open. Between the chilly draft and the fairly generic popcorn chicken, it misses out on a full 5 stars.

It was a very pretty pink and green layered drink topped with edible flowers - beautifully crafted and pretty easy on the palate like a slightly spiked latte! It seems like they made these pretty fresh, as my friend noticed it tasted different than their last visit. The chow wow noodles were super bouncy with the perfect slight kick of spice. I wish they had a little more smokiness, and the meat was slightly chewy, but still really flavorful. For drinks, I tried the Senate Sour and my friend had the Whiskey Sour. Both were smooth, well balanced, and not overly sweet. Definitely save room for the ice cream! The fried dough was incredibly light and crisp with creamy ice cream, whipped cream, and a tart strawberry sauce with chocolate drizzle.
