It was my lucky week in the Metro as I landed 3 outstanding dining establishments! Suzie's Kitchen reminded me of an upscale Waffle House, with the counter space and the open grill! There is something about seeing the cook prepare your meal! After talking with the waitress, who turned out to be the owner's daughter, I learned only REAL eggs are used in the breakfast meals. No eggbeater or carton eggs here and you can tell. The service was very prompt and the meal was out within minutes. I ordered the Mighty Man breakfast and it is most certainly the breakfast of champions. Everything was hot and prepared as ordered. The ketchup was served cold!!! Now that is unheard of except in the fine cafes! Only a true ketchup person would understand! The restaurant was clean and very nice. The prices were very reasonable and the parking was plentiful. Nothing bad to say about this place and this place will give Keys Cafe a run for their money in south Metro! I heard it is great for lunch as well....but that is another review. This used to be our go to breakfast place, but it's been kind of going downhill. Our breakfast there this morning will probably be our last as the condition we found the place in was less than favorable ... starting with a dirty bucket of cigarette butts and hand towels that greeted us at the front door. The hall to the bathroom has become a storage area so getting to the restroom requires some sideways maneuvering, there are 13 plus lightbulbs burned out in the dining room, the mirrors and glass are smeared and dirty, there are open boxes of cereal sitting around the counter and used 'kiddie cups' forgotten about in the newspaper stand. Then to top it off, one of the servers changed from her snowboots into tennis shoes in the dining room, shoved the boots in her back pack and then went right back to serving without washing her hands. My husband and I stopped in to your diner 2 or 3 weeks ago , mostly to check it out. It was on a Saturday, I believe about 1 pm. We noted the diner closed at 2. No none greeted us. There was 1 table of people and employees sitting at the counter.. we ordered, waitress was rude and rushed. The food arrived, cold. One of the employees spent the entire time we were eating, sweeping the floor right next to us and mopping the floor. Not very appetizing to have dirt stirred up while you are eating because someone wants to get out the door at closing. The food was not good and atmosphere- horrible. We will not be back. read more

Warm and friendly atmosphere with fire blazing in the fireplace. Had very good Spanish Omelet with plenty of sausage, onions, peppers and cheese, tasty hash browns and a pot of good coffee. Very reasonably priced. Two of my companions enjoyed biscuits and gravy and French toast with a side of bacon. A fourth companion ordered the corned beef hash with two soft boiled eggs. He was quite happy with the eggs but, although the "hash" tasted all right, he did not really consider it to be corned beef hash as it consisted of small slices of corned beef basically sitting on a pile of hashed browns rather than the traditional mix of chunks of corned beef mixed with chunks of potato. read more

Went to meet up with friends for breakfast at 8:30. Place was busy which is a good sign food is good. Everyone ordered different menu items. We had to ask for refills on the coffee which was met with a huff from the server. My husband's toast came out burnt, like really burnt all the way through! It should never been served. Two plates were extremely hot, which means one thing - sitting food under heat lamps -and this is gross to me! Then this is when the waitress showed her true colors. She was so rude about the toast as she grabbed the plate and left with the whole plate, instead of just bringing out fresh toast. Apparently we took up too much time chatting with out friends because when asked for refill on the coffee pot (she had tired of being asked to refill cups), she huffed again and abruptly grabbed it and left the table. Then asked for more cream and again she was so rude. The food was very good other than the burnt toast I would return for the food but their service has turned me off I probably won't return and I only live just down the road from there. read more

Unbelievable that this restaurant has stayed open this long. True story- yesterday we ate here. We watched the server wipe down half the table before seating us. HALF! The food was underwhelming. Still the Norwegian in me ask for a to-go box. No kidding- the server literally shoved food in her mouth, licked her fingers & grabbed our to go boxes with the same GD fingers she just licked & brought them to my table. I am calling the health inspector today to report them for the umteen health violations I witnessed in my short visit. Save you money, this place doesn't deserve customers. read more

Curious how the reviews for this place are so polarized. I can only speak for my experience, which was exceptional. I feel I have very high standards when it comes to breakfast foods -- I've been to several highly-rated breakfast places in the Twin Cities that I left unimpressed with -- and Suzie's breakfast was terrific. I had chicken-fried steak, eggs, and pancakes. The steak was seasoned to perfection, the eggs were perfectly over-medium (something I can say from experience is quite rare to find), and the pancakes were a commendable fusion of flavor and texture. The owner chatted with us and was very friendly and willing to go above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. My friend wanted a peach shake, which they don't normally serve, but the owner was able to add a peach puree they use to the shake, and it came out quite well. Admittedly, I was there in the afternoon when it was slow, so I cannot speak to the service when this restaurant is busy. I also did not try the bacon or the corned beef hash, so I can't speak to those items. I left quite impressed with this place, though, and will definitely try it again. If my second visit leaves me less impressed, I will update my review. Until then, Suzie's gets five stars. read more

Terrible, Terrible, ordered hot roast beef sandwich from online menu, Monday special $7.99 Hot Roast Beef, went to pick up, owner charged me $10, said on menu $7.99, oh we haven't changed price yet, roast beef is too expensive for that price she said, would not give me special price, so I said you would rather now throw out meal, refund my money, get a bad review than to give advertised price? Nice little breakfast spot, the prices are amazing and affordable. The food was good I got basic breakfast so hard to judge the entire place off of one single sitting. They have cholula which is a huge plus in the hot sauce department as I think Tabasco and Texas Pete have too much vinegar in them. I've heard great things about this place so I was excited to try it. We walked in at 1:08 pm, noting that the sign said that they were closed at 2. Anyways, we walked in with our 3 year old son and the place was pretty dead. He walked up to the table on the landing and asked if we could sit there. The waitress kinda hedged but said Fine. Not seeing what the big deal was, we started to sit down. Then an older woman (I think Suzi? ) came storming from the kitchen and said to the waitress "No. They are NOT sitting there. No. I just vacuumed and they need to go somewhere else. No. No way they can sit there." She didnt once address us, even though we were standing directly in front of her. She just threw her fit and walked away. I was speechless and would have turned around and walked out the door but my husband diplomatically grabbed us another table. Please know that I am not one of those parents who thinks my child farts rainbows and am indignant because he didn't get the table he wanted to sit at. It's because she was so incredibly rude and I truly don't understand why she would think this was an appropriate way to speak to customers. Shortly after we arrived, a guy sat at the counter and she told him he had 5 minutes to order or he'd have to leave We then ordered our food, which was only OK tasting and I am currently laying doubled over because I got really sick from the greasiness of it. I went here today for my birthday and the service was awful. The server was actually mean! She slammed dishes and walked away after dropping off the food without saying a word. I wanted to order a birthday milkshake but was actually too nervous to do this! She told us "no" when we wanted to add on a side of fries in a rude tone and walked away. This place needs a visit from chef Ramsey. Breakfast that should be a knockout was mediocre at best. Three prices of bacon that were cooked together leaving the inside flabby and gross. Pancakes were white rather than golden brown. And the scrambled eggs were ok but resembled an omelet more than an scramble. When leaving at about 10am they had seven orders of hash browns cooked and warming on the griddle. Boy do I wish I could of taken part in Pre cooked hash browns! read more

Suzie's kitchen is about as good as it gets for breakfast. I almost always go for a 3 egg omelet. I always leave feeling full. I'd much rather give a small town feeling independently owned place my business over going to Perkins any day. I have never tried their lunch menu though. It is always so busy that it must be good. I thought I would bring the family there for breakfast. We ordered off the menu and had one request for crispy hash browns. The server said that she'd make a note but wasn't sure if the cook would be able to leave them on long enough to crisp them up with all of the people. Sure enough, they came out soft and mushy. For the couple minutes that it would take to crisp them up, they lost a future customer. :( read more

Drive-thru breakfast! Hell yes! I didn't feel the best and was looking as such so I had to find some drive thru breakfast. Honestly I wanted chick-fil-a but they are closed on Sunday's. So I went looking for taco johns but breakfast was done being served. So Suzies it is.. Pulled up to the drive thru and the menu was broken so I actually pulled up to the window and asked for a menu. I was nervous at this point but was going all in. Had the eggs Benedict and my wife had an egg sandwich. Not the best ingredients but still felt home cooked. This is as good as cafe food gets! We're new to the neighborhood - the Nokomis Cafe in Minneapolis is our benchmark - and Suzie's is a warm and hospitable place with good food on the plate. Prices are on par and portions ample. We had breakfast and it was perfect - loved the crispy, thick-sliced bacon! If I had any "criticism" (and I don't really!) it's that Suzie's is in a suburban strip center location - but it's not the location that is the draw, it's the food - and it was good! If you're looking for a "greasy spoon" type establishment that offers excellent service, reasonable prices, and tasty food then look no further than Suzie's Kitchen. The food is just average. Nothing special except for the Irish Omelette , which is superb! Make sure to get it with the sauerkraut and add extra corn beef (they skimp on it)!! Other than that, it's kinda dingy, and the staff is SUPER RUDE! A bunch of crotchety, always a chip on their shoulder, b*tches! A friend of mine and I met there for breakfast. They sat us in the back by the bathrooms. We ate our meal and were sitting there drinking our coffee and finishing up when the waitress came up to us and said we had been there long enough we needed to leave so that other people waiting could sit down. We had been there for a total of 45 min. There were only 2 of us! We looked at her, said ok, but we will never be back, and left. The people that were waiting was for a party of 5! Great service, I enjoyed my Pepsi(ordered Dr Pepper) my wife enjoyed her cold eggs over easy, and neither of us were able to able to eat our chewy/raw hash browns, the ones that were served to us with the waitress saying they couldn't get the grill hot enough. Today was our second time at Suzie's. The first time, about 6 months ago, our experience was decent. The food was pretty good, the service okay. So, on this Saturday morning around 10:30am, we chose to come back. We'd much rather support a small local family business than eat at a corporate chain restaurant, so we thought we'd try Suzie's again. Sadly, when we came in, we didn't rouse even a look from three separate waitresses. After waiting two minutes, no greetings, no smiles, we were "pointed to" a table. The table had a rag on it, and was clearly unwashed and not set. My husband and my four small kids sat, while a waitress washed and set another table, with no one waiting for it. Another waitress walked by and said in my direction "It's clean." So I sat. Again, another two minutes or so of no greeting, no smile, nothing to welcome us. A few more minutes of busy waitresses, but no one came to our table, still, not even a friendly look. Call me impatient, but I think every single customer, including a family of 6 ($$$) should be at least acknowledged in a positive way. I honestly felt like the three staff we saw were annoyed by our presence. We're not regulars, so perhaps we don't get the same treatment. All I was looking for was SOME effort, a tiny thread, to let us know that we were a valued customer. But I got nothing, so they get nothing. When we got up to leave, all I heard was "Have a nice day." Seriously?! That's what our business means to you? We took our business elsewhere and will not be back. read more

I frequently ate my breakfast at Suzie's Kitchen for many months. I became a regular customer. Then I noticed that they had been stealing money from me by increasing the amount that I had approved on my credit card after I left the premises. On checking back through my statements I discovered that they had done this almost every time I ate there, for several months. There is no way it could possibly have been a mistake. The waitress that did this talked to me and knew that I was retired. She has a regular job and she knows that I don't, but yet she steals from me on every visit. read more

Mediocre food- rude server- don't waste your time or money. Went at 9:30 on a Sunday morning. Not busy when I got there- seated immediately. Asked for decaf & water then asked 3 times for cream- had gotten up to get my own when the server saw me & grabbed it. I never got water until my friend joined me & I asked again. Food came out fairly quickly and was decent but not great. But holy cow was our server (name on receipt was Genii) rude. She stopped taking our order to turn around & scold the poor guy behind us for sitting at a dirty table- said they like to clean them without people sitting there. Then it probably should not be "seat yourself". When he stayed she said "whatever" & went back to taking our order. I never got a refill on coffee & neither of us ever got refills on water. My friend added an order to go for her son and was told "just so you know it's probably going to be a while." The wait on that wasn't as bad as we thought it would be, but when my friend got her debit card out, just getting ready for the bill, the server literally SNATCHED it out of her hand without even showing her the bill!! We came to Suzie's for breakfast on a Wednesday morning before a movie. It's clear this is a family or single owner restaurant, and that's just fine with us. The kitchen is open to the dining area and there's a nice fireplace and dining counter. My husband and I ordered the Country Fried Steak with hash browns and eggs (mine over easy and his scrambled) and our daughter got her usual pancakes and bacon. The country fried steak was pretty good actually. The gravy was perfect in consistency and nicely flavored, the steak had a great crunchy, crispy crust and the eggs were hot and cooked to order. The hashbrowns were a bit too greasy, and not as crisp as I like, but not stale or old as we had read in other reviews. The chef made our daughter's pancakes in the shape of Mickey Mouse and she finished most of her breakfast. Overall, it's better than average for a diner in Rosemount. I feel like it's probably not as great when business is heavy (weekends). We'll be back to try this place again. read more

It was ok, nothing special, not bad, just ok. I would suggest they get lighting for their large sign. It's hard to tell if it's even open when you drive by because the front is so dark, but look for a small neon sign. If it's lit they are open. Pretty basic breakfast fare, and done well. It was very clean, and has been on every occasion I've been in. The cook was wearing gloves which always tells me they are conscious of being sanitary with my food. However I have often had wait staff that seemed less than interested in waiting on me. Being the only customer this morning I'd think that wouldn't be a problem, but it is. While the restaurant was clean, the service friendly but a little too casual, my complaint echoes another reviewer's: in what universe can their idea of "corned beef hash" be considered hash--or even corned beef? What comes out of a Dinty Moore's can, while pretty disgusting, is closer to hash than this stuff! A slab of hash browns sprinkled with some cut up slices of mystery meat (could it be corned beef?)! I have had some terrific corned beef hash in other restaurants, and NONE of it even remotely resembled this abomination. (To be fair, my companions said the French toast was good, as well as the omelet and the biscuits and gravy. Stay away from the so-called hash and you should be fine. read more
