Lunch Chicken Platter- Chicken Thali with Papadums and sauces
    Sara P.

Have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. Service is always great, food is tasty, and huge portions. One suggestion- Please bring back the lunch buffet. Even if it was only offered on the weekends that would be great. I miss being able to pick out all my own options.

We've been coming here for the many years. We loved the buffet, but sadly it's gone so we ordered the Thali plate. Got the goat and chicken thali plates. Most of the dishes were good, butter chicken, nice tandoori chicken and the pakora was soft and somewhat lukewarm. The dal tasted off, but can't say why exactly. Goat and chicken mains were still good. We went on Sunday afternoon, no one was there, the place was very dark and quiet. Not the best restaurant ambience unless you like dining without disruptions. Unfortunately, there was lack of table service, no checking on food or replenishing of water. Pretty disappointing to return to what use to be one of our favorite restaurants. Check out the Hillsboro location for a better vibe.

Excellent. Service was great. We had a large party of 10. The food was very delicious. I had the Chicken Thali that had tandoori chicken and such a great variety of curry, chutney, a dessert and was overall amazing. They tend to make their dishes mild in spice so I ordered mine medium and still didn't seem very spicy but it was so delicious it didn't matter. Very tender and moist tandoori chicken , the chicken makhani was good and the dal curry and sambar were full of flavor. I would definitely go back. Very good food

Solid Indian Cuisine with affordable dining options. For both our dishes, we ordered the thali combo which came with a number of side, dishes, and rice and your choice of naan bread. Every bite was delicious. Service was friendly and fast. They provided individual take out containers to take out leftovers home. Definitely a great value for Indian cuisine.

Nice ambiance with plenty of indoor seating. Mood lighting and all. Food was just average though. We tried the vegetarian thali and lamb samosas. Felt the portions were small but the lamb was flavorful. Service was fast. We'd probably only return if we were already in the neighborhood. Conveniently located next to Trader Joe's though!

I've been going here for many years and just realized I had never reviewed it. I really miss their lunch buffet, but there is a ton of food provided with their THALI lunches. And the price is the same as a single entrée at the food carts in the nearby Beaverton Round. Each of the items is delicious in their own way, and together they make very satisfying and extremely filling meal. There are eight tables outside, nestled in their rose garden, but the bees will bother you. The indoor tables are arranged in the three main rooms of the former house. The service is fine.

Tucked away on a side street in Beaverton, this restaurant is a hidden gem! There is a pretty front patio sitting area, inside is surprisingly spacious and beautiful Indian decor. The service is fast and friendly. The food was flavorful and delicious! Wonderful authentic Indian cuisine! Reasonable pricing.

Great experience! Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. First time for us ordering Chicken & Vegetarian Thali (photos included). Piping hot naan bread was also served just before our meal (no photo) & our servers were attentive and filled our water regularly throughout the meal. We couldn't believe the amount (and variety) of food delivered to our table - definitely enough for an additional meal each. All in all, great value for $$

I've been coming here for years and have never left a review. The place is a converted house so seating is somewhat limited. The service has always been fair to good, and in my opinion, their Butter Chicken (Chicken Makhani) is the best I have ever had. I've had it in multiple places and cities and it never compares. Their tandoori is also delicious and their naan is addictive. It is a little bit pricey for the portions. It's so good though!!

One of my favorite pre-Covid activities was going to Swagat for the lunch buffet. For me, being able to try a little bit of everything is a treat. Then Covid hit and buffets were no longer cool, so I waited for Swagat to reopen their buffet; but the craving for Indian food was real, so I gave in! Instead of a buffet lunch, they now serve 3 different set (Thali) lunch plates: vegetarian, chicken and goat. You can order other items on the menu if your heart tells you to. We ordered the chicken and the goat set meals and I was pleasantly surprised how pretty the presentation was. You get your main dish with salad, rice, and 3 little bowls of curries and two dessert bowls (yogurt and mango) all presented on a big round tray. They also serve you fresh naan bread on the side as well, which made me very happy. There were actually quite a lot of food so we both took a good amount of left overs to go. I'm prerty impressed with the new lunch set and can't wait to bring my friends here for lunch soon!

This is my first time at the Beaverton location and also with a big group (19 people!) for a birthday dinner (on a Friday night too!) I will say even though there were some mix-up with our reservation, the staff handled it like pros and were very attentive, efficient, and accommodating. Very impressed! From the outside, it looks like a regular house with a tiny parking lot in the back - you're probably better off parking along the street anyway. They have a big waiting room with couches in the front which was nice since they have lots of takeout traffic and people waiting for a table. They had a big table in one half of the room for most of our group and 1/3 of the group (the teenagers) were seated across which worked out well. They also had more seating in the back where the restrooms are. The walls were decorated with beautiful wood Indian artwork and paintings. The pricing for food is very reasonable for the portion and the quality you get. We got the assorted vegetable pakoras for appetizer to share - they were light and crispy, the perfect starters. Most of entrees can be ordered A La Carte or the option of their Tahli dinner which came on a big tray with additional sides served with your entree. Our group all got many different things but I got the Lamb Kirai - my goodness they certainly did not skimp on the lamb because I had soooo many pieces of tender lamb but boy did it have that secret burning heat! My mouth was on fire but it was so delicious I couldn't stop eating it! The portions were generous so I did end up taking half of my food home to enjoy later. I definitely recommend this place when you have an Indian food craving!

Came here for dinner with a few friends. This is an average Indian restaurant. We ordered below 4/5 - Samosas - these were decent to taste. 3/5 - Chicken tikka masala - very standard curry and nothing over the top. You definitely can eat better in other places. The chicken was also bit bland. 2/5 - Moongdal lentil dosa. The dosa was okay but the accompanying chutneys were sour and lacked much needed flavor. I'm unsure if I'll give this a try again.

The location and atmosphere is nothing special, but that isn't why you come here. Both times I've gone it's been busy, but we were able to get seated right away. The paneer makhani curry is delectable. It's rich, sweet, spicy, creamy, and has a great depth of flavor and spices. The shrimp biryani was the standout dish for me that I still keep thinking about. The rice was aromatic and cooked perfectly, while the shrimp was robust, bright, and very spicy. I would recommend ordering a spice level down from what you would normally get.The mini samosas were packed with flavor and I loved all onions in them. The garlic naan was also solid. All around incredible food!

Unfortunately, my second order via DoorDash missed the mark in two significant ways: 1) Spice level not honored: I ordered butter chicken and Mughlai paneer and selected "mild", specifically because my 5-year-old was going to eat with me. What arrived was unbearably hot, even for an adult used to spicy Indian food. I double-checked my receipt and the mild selection was clearly there. Neither dish was edible for my child, and I could barely get through it myself. What's especially frustrating is that my first order at mild spice came out perfectly mild. Dishes like butter chicken and Mughlai korma-style preparations are traditionally on the gentler end of the heat spectrum. It would be great if the restaurant could maintain consistency in honoring spice level selections, as it makes a difference for the person eating it. 2) No rice with the main course: In every Indian restaurant I've visited globally, a main entree comes with a side of rice as standard. I didn't select "extra rice" on DoorDash assuming this was a given, and added only a garlic naan. What arrived was two entrees and a very small portion of naan (two thin slices, really enough for one person), and no rice at all. A heads-up on the menu or at checkout that rice is not included would go a long way. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously, because the food itself is very tasty!

Vanakkam brought an absolute feast down from Portland to Eugene for our wedding. They not only transported a huge buffet, but also did live dose (dosa) and even added a live appetizer station last minute, fearing that the appetizers would be soggy. That means they were cooking on a huge griddle, cranking out crispy dose, frying paneer 65, wok-tossing gobi manchurian, all on the spot. Every single dish was SO GOOD. Our guests said it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding. People are still raving about it. We had many guests from India who were thrilled as well. Ganesh at Vanakkam was a pleasure to work with throughout the process. So responsive, kind and understanding, and his staff worked incredibly hard. It honestly blew us away. You should hire Vanakkam for your special event. 5 stars is not enough. 20 maybe. (This event just happened, but I'll update this review with mouthwatering pictures as soon as I have some...)

This restaurant, located in a strip mall area, doesn't really seat that many people, but for less than $16, you can experience a really amazing lunch buffet option here. Seriously, for the price of your average food cart entree these days, you can have an all-you-can-eat, high-quality, high-variety lunch. And this restaurant doesn't just churn out the basic stuff, either. You might get a bhindi masala, or goat biryani, along with some of the more typical plates like butter chicken. They mix it up, which is the sign of a great buffet. Honestly, they do something truly special with their tandoori chicken. I'm normally pretty lukewarm on that entree, but Vanakkam's version is a really sensational one. Samosas, Naan, Raita, etc. all available too. I hope they can keep this going at this price, and if so, we'll soon be a regular, no doubt!

The shop was quiet with some customers picking up to go orders. We went to the counter and ordered two non-veg (chicken) thali plates, a mango lassi and a chai masala. I also asked to confirm that they don't have their buffet anymore. While we were waiting, we noticed that most of the tables were dirty with food smudges and left over trash presumably from the day before since it had just opened. I tried to clean our table with paper napkins and water with little effect. So we decided to just deal with it. My husband went to the restroom to wash his hands and told me the restroom was in need of cleaning as well. As our food came. We noticed the sides on the thali plates were different too. They used to have two side dishes with cucumber, tomato, onion and crackers. The new plates were more plain, not bad, but not the same variety. The food tasted pretty good, I noticed the curries were spicer as well. That makes us wonder if there was a change of ownership/management once Desi Bites moved. It's such a shame the Desi Bites we remembered is gone..
