This burger place is a gem that more folks need to know about. They have a small parking lot at the end of the block. There are several tables inside as well as a counter. When I visited on a weekday for an early lunch I was the only customer sitting inside but there was a near constant flow of people getting to-go orders. You order either at a kiosk or at the counter. There was only one guy working, doing everything, while I was there. He was amazing. I ordered a cheeseburger (minus onion), sidewinder fries, and a salted caramel milkshake. They make everything to order so it takes a few minutes (especially when there's only one worker) but it's worth the wait. He delivered it to my table when it was ready. My American waygu burger with melted cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and secret sauce in a potato bun was one of the best burgers I've had. While all the toppings were fresh and delicious, I think the flavorful, perfectly cooked, high quality beef is what put it over the top. The thick sidewinder fries were really great too. They're thick like steak fries but curved like a snake. I was provided ketchup and "secret sauce" for dipping. And my salted caramel shake was incredible. I've had a multitude of caramel shakes elsewhere that just tasted like sweet vanilla, but this one had a vibrant caramel flavor and you could see gobs of caramel swirled within the shake. I was looking for a place to take my bro in law for his bday. He loves burgers and I saw this on Yelp so I recommended it to him. This is a small spot located on a main street. They had a parking lot around the corner and it wasn't very hard to find a spot. The gal behind the counter was friendly and helpful in informing about their menu. We got 4 different burgers, fries, onion rings and sweet potato waffle fries. I'm a sucker for sides and these were very good! My bro in law's burger was epic! It had pork belly in the middle and it was yum! We all liked the flavor of the patties though I expected a bit more from wagyu beef patties. I wish I tried a milkshake but glad I didn't order it because I was so full and couldn't even finish my burger. I'd definitely come back and check out other menu items in the future. We tried Swagyu Burger near the Lido area of Newport Beach, and honestly, it was just okay. For a place advertising wagyu beef, the burgers were overpriced and the patties were extremely thin. The buns were so dense and bready that the actual burger flavor got completely lost. The soda fountain was broken during our visit, so drinks were only canned or bottled. The sides were massive and our server was nice--but she was the only one working so service was a little slow. The ambiance was not ideal for a party larger than 2 people because the small round tables were bolted down and could not be connected. Another annoying thing was the radio was blasting SO, SO loudly that we could not hold a conversation. We had to ask the worker to turn it down, it was so loud. With so many great burger spots in the area where the flavor of the meat actually shines, I don't think I'd return. This place didn't live up to the wagyu hype. read more

The bun was so much bigger than the meat so a couple of us picked the buns off and just ate the meat because it was just TOO MUCH bread. The fries are good though. A bit pricey but it makes sense considering the area and quality of their food. I wasn't able to try the fries since they were out of fries when I got there but damn that was an insanely good burger and milkshake. I was only able to finish half but after the long drive home I ended up inhaling the rest of that burger. I will embarrassingly admit that the burger and shake left my insides in shambles that night and next day. I normally have a strong stomach but as I've grown older, I've built a bit of an intolerance to dairy and greasy foods. Was it worth it? Yes. This location of the famous Swagyu brand of wagyu-blend burgers is really a great asset to the Balboa Peninsula restaurant offerings... in fact, it's currently my favorite due to the great quality of ingredients (they are officially licensed/certified to sell burgers blended with the real A5 Japanese wagyu beef, which most wagyu establishments in the US don't have), the amazing dedication to consistency and quality, and the affordable options like the cheese burger I went for, although they also offer some premium burgers for premium pricing as well!! They also offer more than burgers, their menu is carefully crafted and I think the main reason they aren't getting much foot traffic is because of the relatively more remote location that Balboa Peninsula is compared to places like South Coast Plaza where I think Swagyu would easily become the favorite lunch spot of the masses should it relocate to there... right now the favorite of the masses there is Din Tai Fung but Swagyu offers a much more universal flavor profile with much better quality of ingredients and a much more relaxed vibe as well. Today, there was only one employee working so he had to tell us takeouts only as presumably he wouldn't be able to both take and make orders at the same time he'd clear tables and such. It was a tough schedule for him for sure but he was super positive and I really appreciated how hard he was trying to offer great customer service. The ambiance was super clean, everything was in its place, sunlight was filling into the establishment through the glass doors, and the kitchen was super professional too... a really top notch establishment that would see way higher sales by relocating to South Coast Plaza, I believe!! We are out of towners but made it a point to stop by to try the Wagyu Fat Brownie Shake (we are a big fan of their wagyu burgers with the katsu) and so glad we did. This shake was incredible. Super creamy goodness made with real ice cream and with the brownie cooked to perfection. It was chewy, not soggy. They need to sell just the brownie! We recommended the burger to the guys that walked in and one stopped us to tell us that we were right because it's so incredible. The food is on the "higher end" in some peoples opinion but to us.....It's worth every penny. You truly get your monies worth because the quality and size is there. You definitely get what you pay for! My second time at Swagyu, and it's the Lamborghini of burgers. These are real Wagyu burgers and not the so called "Kobe" "Wagyu" burgers at some places. The beef is so juicy, tender, and flavorful. It's an expensive burger, but the experience of this delicious rich burger is worth the splurge. Loved the unique shape of the fries, but the crisp and tender interior made it spectacular. Costa Mesa is a cloud kitchen(did not know that until I got there) so don't expect to have a place to dine in. When I was there, it was only one guy taking orders, cooking, and packing. Saw a Reel on Instagram so i decided to check it out tonight. Food: Swagador Burger: $28. Burger was good i think a bit over priced. Good flavor, cooked well, the pickled serranos were a bit spicy but they complimented the burger. Brioche bun was soft and was not saturated with burger grease. Overall, it was a good flavorful burger. Sidewinder Fries: $8. Fries were cooked perfectly. Toasty on the outside, soft on the inside. The secret sauce did not have much flavor to it. Again, a little expensive for fries. Establishment: One of 7/8 kitchens in a small building. Parking is horrible. It seems that these kitchens cater mostly to Uber Eats. Thats mostly what you see picking up orders. The thing that got me was that there is no seating for you to eat there. I had to drive a half an hourback home to eat. Food was semi warm when i got home. This is a big no no for me. Overall: Ok burger, good fries, eh. Dont know if i will be returning. I wish i could have eaten there. read more

Amazing burgers! We had Swagyu on our list of places to try for a while. Decided it was finally time to give it a try. Two burgers fries and a drink came out to $60 with tax. It does seem like a lot but this was a treat yoself kind of meal. My burger was the classic smash burger with the regular fixings. The bf got a 1/2 El Swagador Burger. That was obviously the more expensive one. It was giant as you can see in the background of my photo. To be honest mine was rather sizely too. The fries are fried in waygu tallow which is awesome. They tasted amazing. My only complaint is there was nobody else waiting for their order when we placed ours, and it took like 30 minutes for the food to come out. There was people who came wayy after us and placed their order and they got their food basically right after we did. Timing made no sense. They have their own parking lot which was nice, don't have to deal with paying for street parking. Overall, I would likely return & recommend to a friend. read more

We walked over and finally got to try Swaygu Burger, and wow--it lives up to the hype! The Wagyu beef they use is a game changer. The marbling in the meat makes the burger incredibly tender and rich, unlike anything you'd get with regular beef. Plus, they cook with beef tallow instead of seed oils, which not only enhances the flavor but is also a healthier alternative (tallow fries are killer). More places need to adopt this! My only wish is for a gluten-free bun, but if you care about top-quality ingredients and want to avoid seed oils, this place is a must. Highly recommend! Worth mentioning that I ordered again on Uber eats the same day trying to get it for dinner and Uber canceled my order because they were so busy! This is a wagyu-blend burger joint and they're pretty darn good (the service is super friendly and great as well). I got the top of the line, loaded 2-patty option with pork belly, pickled peppers and sauce; my friend got the regular double without all the extra fixin's. As there was some patty-overlap with the bun, I got to try just the burger and cheese by itself and it was GREAT. The flavor was super good and spot-on. I've had wagyu burgers before and they're good, but I don't know that wagyu really adds that much over a good chuck/short rib/etc butchers blend like you'd get at a fancy chef's burger joint in Vegas. That said, IMO the single or basic double is the way to go. The extras, while they were super good on their own, when added to this double burger they sort of overwhelmed the otherwise excellent smash patties themselves. Half way through, I ended up taking tossing that stuff anyway and the rest of the meal was improved. Don't get me wrong- uplifts are often great and their menu is somewhat limited, so I get it, and it does work, but in the end stick with the standard stuff and your burger loving soul shall rejoice! read more

It struck me as odd, since we were waiting so long for our food and he left the burger store and walked down the street. The next morning at Pavillions we saw the exact same fries in the hot deli case and we were so disappointed to think they were the same fries from the burger place! Is the burger place getting their fries from the Pavilion hot deli counter, marking the price up and reselling them?! These fries are pretty unique looking. There's a much better wagyu burger across the street at Mayors Table that includes delicious truffle fries and a beautiful restaurant to enjoy it in. Priced at $26. Or even Arch has a great $26 burger - with fries and excellent atmosphere. We will never go back. I have eaten here every summer for the last couple of years. The burgers were great. This time it was bad. The meat was so thin. A $20 burger should not look the same as the $8 burger. I won't be back again. The prices are way too high. I would pay $20 for a 1/2 wagyu smash burger if that's what I would get but unfortunately I got a tiny little patty. The meat was not tender and juicy. It was overcooked and crunchy. The only reason I gave a 2 star review was because this place was good in the past. If not I would have given it a 1 star. read more
