This place is a gem. We came here on the weekend but I think it's always pretty busy. If you come via car, you'll need to wait in a line to park in their lot which is quite small. Otherwise you can walk there from the larger paid parking lot down PCH. We arrived and waited for a good 30-45 minutes in the order line. I wish there was some sort of cover during this wait because the sun and heat is strong in the afternoon. Once we ordered, we then had to wait for an open spot to sit. Prepare for lines and to wait for a few things when you come here. Once you do find a seat and you have your order, you can enjoy a nice little beach burger meal overlooking the ocean. The shack itself is cute and colorful too. The best items on their menu are the shakes. They are so flavorful and fresh without any artificial taste. The burger and fries were just good but I couldn't really find anything super special about them for the price. Overall, this is a cute little busy spot where you can get a classic beach burger and fries with incredible shakes and views. It's kind of a novelty but sometimes that's fun!

I tried the fish tacos and the fish was flaky and over all, a great taco. My husband stayed with the usual burger, fries, and shake. Of the ones I've tried the black cherry and the banana were the best. The burgers are good but not perfect. Bun was greasy and burger over seasoned. They were cooked properly though and good ingredient quality. Parking is very limited often with a long wait. Alternatively, you can also get access from the paid state parking lot on Los Trancos, walking through the beach tunnel, across the bridge, then going up the stairs.
Parking is hard, highly recommend parking in the state park lot and walking over which didn't take too long. Can get hard getting a table but lovely and stunning views of the beach. I got the cheeseburger with bacon and fries along with the sea salt caramel malt. The burger was decent, honestly nothing special but the fries were delicious. They were exceptionally crispy and airy. One of the best fries I had if you are a crispy fry person. The malt was also delicious, it was heavy and I would recommend sharing it between two people. It was sweet and so decadent, but so worth it after a long hike.
Honestly, who really cares about what the food tastes like when ur view is THIS. But it sure does help when the food is yummy!!!! Their burgers are pretty mediocre, the patty itself is not flavorful nor juicy but a burger is a burger! I think it's safer to go with the seafood options. My friend has the fish tacos and they were delicious. Sweet potato fries are very yummy! Good luck trying to find parking. The wait to just enter the lot is like 20-30 minutes. Park across and walk under the freeway! It's part of the experience.

I've had their shakes before and they're all excellent but I've never had a burger until recently. I got the triple triple cove deluxe burger and it blew my mind. It didn't take long at all to get the burger and shake and seating was easy as well. The views are unbeatable of the ocean. The staff is also very friendly and happy to answer any questions you have about the food. I also really like their fries! I always judge a place by the fries and this place gives you a generous portion and they're very good and crispy, just the way I like them. The burger is a bit pricey but I would definitely come back for one every once in a while.

It cost $15, but I got to enjoy the hiking trail as well. Just a heads-up: there's usually a line outside the restaurant's own parking lot.
Came here wanted to try this place out with my daughter and it was a very long line in the car waiting for a parking. It was little busy when we got here and this place the view is beautifully and amazing view of the ocean. We order burger and it came with fries, the drink is separate charge. Wasnt all that great, but it was good, the fries was good as well. They have jalapeño slice and they charge xtra for that. Price I think it's alittle over the price for the food, but it's on PCH. I expected that would be little expensive.. Service was ok. Ambience here the view is very nice and they have a couple of chairs and tables .. but the have like a stool like a bar table you can see the ocean.Think they should have a bigger parking because it's a very small parking lot but it was nice coming here just got to get a bite and relax and look at the ocean view.

We always visit shake shack on PCH when we are in the area. Just love the view. It's so peaceful to eat by the ocean. Everyone is friendly. They have a self serve water station on the side. I usually order a Coke but their date shake is one of a kind. If you haven't tried it. You'll be in for a treat.
No tea, no shade, the chain with the same name has nothing on Crystal Cove Shake Shack. The food was INCREDIBLE. They have the best fries I've ever had. Perfect crisp to them. We got a chocolate chip cookie dough and Oreo shakes. Super thick and super yummy. The burgers were flavorful. They give a vibe of backyard BBQ burger. Service was super quick. We came about an hour or so before sunset, so it wasn't terribly busy. We loved the views! The only thing I wish they had was a designated queue for ordering. We had some issues with a man cutting the line. Parking sucks so come with plenty of time! read more

Thursday @noon, 78degree with cool breeze outside. Surprisingly the line wasn't too long. 8 min wait to order, shake came out within 5 mins, food another 10mins. Great beach food and shake is a must. Not sure if I would wait an hr for them bc this place can get very busy. Side note: If you park here then head out to the beach, you'll get towed. Plz pay for your parking and move your car. read more
4.5 stars for service 3 stars for food First time visiting, tagged along with my brother who comes here a lot with his family. Parking takes a while, another line for food. If you have people with you, have them get off and order. Food will be ready once you park. Staff are really nice and accommodating. They're mostly younger kids but very polite. Food comes out fast. Food was pretty good, definitely can get better elsewhere but what people come here for are the views. We for burgers, turkey burger, chili cheese fries and sweet potato fries. Oh and a choc/vanilla and banana shake- these were really good. It's nice grabbing a burger by the water, esp at sunset. The epitome of OC. The area and views make you thankful to live here. read more

Nothing says the start of summer like a milkshake from this spot. This time we tried the chocolate peanut butter shake and banana cream shake. I will say they are a bit on the sweet side but still so yummy. Each shake is $10 but you could easily share it with another person. read more

The only thing going for this place are the views. If they put an In N Out or Chick Fil A here, you bet I'd make the drive to LA often but for this Shake Shack? Nope. We stopped by Sunday around 1pm and the crowd wasn't too bad. The views are fantastic and there's no better way to enjoy your lunch. We ordered a few items and all were just disappointing: Cove Deluxe Cheeseburger with fries. The bun was soft and airy and the patties were juicy but also greasy and chewy. They had a weird flavor and the veggies or cheese didn't help cover it up. The fries were undercooked and cold. The fish in the fish and chips were oily , not fried well like the fries, and the fish was dry and tough. The tartar sauce was weirdly and overly sweet while the coleslaw hardly had any dressing. As for the shakes, they were liquidy as soon as I picked them up from the window. They aren't thick at all and made with clearly the same base which brings for a very bland and mild shake. I tried the banana cream which had a lot of banana chunks and hardly any caramel drizzle in the cup but there was also barely any banana flavor if you weren't getting a piece of banana. The chocolate shake was just not chocolatey enough and even the color was so pale it's like you ordered a vanilla shake with some chocolate drizzled in. All in all, $50+ for this meal is just going for their rent and your views. The food is not worth it at all. read more

This place is really known for its views and Ambiance. It's great to come here after a nice hike along the bluffs. It is a counter so the order comes out fast. Parking is tight though but worth the wait to experience. read more
Parking here is pretty rough since the lot is small, but I luckily found a spot right away. I came around 5 PM and there was no line, though after sunset it started getting really busy with a long line forming. I ordered the Fish & Chips ($18) and a Banana Shake ($10). The food came out super quickly, which was great. The seating area is all outdoors, but there are plenty of tables and heaters for when it gets cooler later in the day. I also came during sunset and the view was really pretty, which made the experience even better. The banana shake was really good, with great flavor and a nice thick texture. The fish had a nice crispy coating, and it tasted better with lemon squeezed on top. The fries were also cooked well and paired nicely with the fish. Overall, I would definitely come back if I'm in the area to try more items, as long as it's not too busy and parking is available. read more
I truly cannot get over the fact that this Shake Shack exists inside a California State Park. It blows my mind every single time and I love that it does! I visited Crystal Cove with a friend in mid-December and she suggested grabbing dinner at Shake Shack. I'm endlessly grateful for friends who know how to mix nature, food, and hidden gems so perfectly - and share them with me, of course! I ordered the BLTA and a chocolate chip cookie dough shake, and both were excellent. The holiday decor was such a fun touch, and the views? Beautiful and unreal!!! Eating burgers/sandwiches and milkshakes while overlooking the ocean in a state park is wildly luxurious in my humble opinion! This place is special and worth the wait. The service was great - order at the counter and they'll call your name/number kind of place. I will absolutely be back, hopefully sooner rather than later. read more
This is such an iconic spot to go to & great to take out of town friends who are visiting. Parking lot is tiny & there will be a line if it is during lunchtime. If the car line is 5 cars, I have waited 20min, if the car line is over 10 I've waited over an hour (do not recommend) I got the cove deluxe burger with a Oreo mint shake. Both were delicious. Service is so so, I've had great service but this last time the lady was rude & dismissive. Views are unbeatable. Would highly recommend. read more
This is a staple in the area and very iconic! The most perfect view of Crystal Cove and a very joyful place with lots of families and fun. The shakes and burgers are classic. For out of towners note: the line will be very long if it is the weekend/nice out. Be prepared to wait in your car in a line on PCH. It's best to bring someone else who can get out of the car and wait in line to order while you wait for a parking spot. The lot is very small. There is also only one bathroom and it usually has a line. Like the name says - it is a shack! read more

Solid burger spot with a beautiful view! We got three of the Cove Deluxe Burgers ($14.99 each + comes with fries) -- they tasted good, like a homemade burger. The fries were a nice addition too, but it needs more salt. I also got a Vanilla Milkshake ($8.99?) and it was my favorite part of the meal, especially when I got to dip my fries in it. Overall for the food, it was solid, but it's pretty overpriced. As for ordering, the line goes by pretty fast. We went on a Saturday early afternoon and it wasn't too bad. We were able to get a table and our food came out in like 10 minutes. However, the parking lot is very small, so I recommend just making a trip out of it to the beach and parking in Los Trancos. read more

I just don't get it. When I pass thru this area I always see the crowds and so I decided it was time to try it out. The line just to get a spot in the parking lot was already backed out into the street but I got in it anyways. The husband jumped out walked to the business to wait in the line to order and by the time it was my turn to park our food was coming ready. There's a small side patio off the building but good luck finding a seat unless you want to wait in line. There's trend so far for this place if you have not caught it was " lines, lines, lines " We ordered: Jalapeño burger (literally a cheeseburger with jar jalapeños added) Bacon burger (bacon and avocado added) 4 kids cheeseburgers Oreo shake Date & banana shake Everybody in my family, oldest to youngest, was soooo disappointed in this place. Now don't get me wrong the food is edible and they give you a ton of fries. But the fries are unsalted, unseasoned shoestring and I don't even think we had 5 out of 6 baskets worth of fries untouched. The burgers had patties soooo thin inside and so bland. Again unseasoned and had that fatty/lardy grill taste. Even the cheese on the burgers were bleh. I will say all the veggies on the burgers seemed fresh - lettuce crisp, avocado green etc. But seriously, skip this people, go to somewhere like The Stand instead read more
Probably the most iconic and picturesque spot to have a causal / fast food joint in all of OC. It's been on my bucket list for uhhh, decades so idk why I never went until today. I've hiked the state parks and crystal cove trails many times, as well as este at the beachcomber several times so I'm aware the location is super clutch and ultra cute. The food is fine, nothing extraordinary or out of this world but it's good. The Cajun fries seasoning is great. Burgers and shakes, not the most flavorful. It doesn't come close to competing with in n out obviously. Recommend coming here. Parking is an absolute shit show. Good luck. Not the Shake Shack burger franchise your expecting, but the experience here will leave your refreshed. The atmosphere and ambiance here right before sunset is breathtaking. It's very enjoyable to eat your food while watching the sunset and the waves hitting the beaches. The service here was fast and effective for their small space. Only downside is that parking is "very" limited and you might end up waiting in your car for a while waiting for a spot. But definately worth the trip if you're in the area. read more
Located right off PCH above a Crystal Cove state park, Shake shack is my favorite place to visit when I'm in the area. The view and the prices can't be beat in this area. The food is pretty good too! Parking is very difficult to find. There is always a line of cars that are waiting to park. That's a good sign! Service is quick and efficient. You order and wait for your number to be called. All staff are inside this tiny shack. Today, we came after eating downstairs at the Beachcomber Restaurant. We wanted a cheaper dessert treat. Everyone got a milkshake in my party. The prices are reasonable. The shakes are yummy. I got the peanut butter shake. It was thick and rich. I will be back again. Their ahi tuna sandwich is the best! read more
Yes, the car line to park is intimidating. HOWEVER, it really wasn't as bad as it looked. With ten cars in front of us, we parked within 30 minutes. Once parked, there is no line to order. Shakes come out super fast and food followed quickly. Then you're rewarded with a beautiful view. read more

Beautiful scenery food is great! I ordered the lobster roll with root beer float. There was a load of lobster, not mixed with any imitation crab meat, in a toasted brioche bun for about $25. My daughter had a cheeseburger with a chocolate shake. Came on a Wednesday during Easter break and it wasn't that busy, easy to find a table and service was relatively quick. They'd have you pick up your drinks first so you wouldn't be hangry while waiting for your food ! read more

After a long day at Crystal Cove, my bf and I decided to stop by this shake shack to get dinner. I absolutely loved it!! The burger was tasty cause it had just the right amount of each topping, and the seafood combo was satisfying and crunchy! The milkshake had so many cookie dough and chocolate chips, it definitely took my sugar cravings away. Finally, the view is gorgeous, especially in the summer evenings. Service was good, honestly started feeling bad for them having to constantly call out order numbers over and over again. But, I would come back for sure! read more

Nothing beats the views here. Just love it. Burgers are good but I'm here for the views really. Seafood combo was all right nothing spectacular. Sweet potato friend better than regular fries. Parking is not great no secret. Be prepared to be in line for parking then order for some time! read more

Spur of the moment trip to the beach My Fiance has never been to the crystal cove shake shack. So naturally I had to change that. Got our son and ourselves ready and headed to the beachhhh. We pulled up at early but I believe we had just missed breakfast which I was sad because I've been wanting to try their breakfast but we will get it next time. We pulled up and luckily some one signaled us that they were going to be leaving. 1st win quick parking found but please note sometimes we're not always that lucky. Got in line which wasn't too bad either probably like 5 customers ahead of us. Which gave us time to review the menu My Fiance decided on the jalapeño burger added bacon and avocado witha banana shake. I wanted just a regular deluxe burger with crispy fries and a peanut butter banana shake. We Sat to the left side where we could comfortably sit with our newborn sound asleep in his stroller. We got our skates first which we couldn't put down. Then our burger order was up. First bite was everything I know I enjoy the food and ambiance here this was about his experience after that first bite I swear he finished it in 3 lol it's safe to say it was a successful first time there not only for him but together. read more

If you're looking to dine with an oceanview in Newport without breaking the bank, this is your spot. This Shake Shack (unlike the other chain) has been around forever and is a small roadside burger shack along PCH. During peak times, you'll see a line of cars waiting for a parking spot. People are always coming and going though so it doesn't take that long. Their menu consists of mostly burgers, sandwiches and some seafood. The Cove Deluxe Cheeseburger ($13.99) comes with french fries and is a good standard burger with two patties. The Fish & Chips ($17.99) come with 3 pieces of cod, fries and coleslaw. They weren't bad but I've had better. The cod was a little fishy and the coleslaw was bland. What they're really known for is their shakes. They have many flavors to choose from including a rotating monthly flavor. We had the seasonal Cantaloupe Shake ($8.99) and it was delicious but the cantaloupe flavor could've been stronger. The food isn't bad but what I would definitely come back for is a shake and to take in the view. read more

This is a must-stop for anyone nearby. Don't confuse this place as the same as the nationwide chain restaurant with a similar name. I believe this one is locally owned and is a staple for beach goers at Crystal Cove. We always come here during our beach trips and during the daytime. It is a short walk up and down the stairs to grab food and head back to your beach spot set out on the beautiful Crystal Cove Beach. This time around we came here at night, and I would have to say it might be even more enjoyable than during the daytime which sometimes can be windy and chilly even under the bright sun. I never realized that the outdoor dining deck is lined full of patio heaters that makes for a comfortable and cozy dining experience. The lighting around the exterior of the building and down below at another restaurant establishment make for an inviting ambiance. And parking is not a challenge at night. There are only a limited number of parking spots out front right off the main road. And it's only one way in and one way out. Food is typical of a diner filled with a menu of burgers, sandwiches, and a small variety of fried seafood items. Of course their shakes are there claim-to-fame. Food quality and taste are always consistently good. Given the location, it is understandable how a meal for two can run you up close to $50 and that is without even dessert. So be prepared. When does the lunch menu start or is it all day?
Hi Karen - to my knowledge the only time related menu is breakfast which is from 7am - 11am. There is no time on other items (lunch, etc.). Hope this helps.

They have about 6 outdoor propane patio heaters.
What are the holiday hours? Are you open on Christmas?
