The best feature of this business is the service. Every employee interacts with you, offers to help, and they even offer to cleanup your mess when you leave. You can tell who is the manager - he's the guy sitting at a table with a "Stand" hat and tee-shirt feverishly entering data and looking at stuff on the computer. Why are managers always the one at the table with a laptop? If you go just down the block to Flower Child the manager is the one working at the counter handing our orders, or delivering orders to tables and interacting with the guests. Never saw him use a laptop but I'm certain he does. But the manager said goodbye to us as we left. A chicken sandwich with chicken and cole slaw was made with chicken that we very flat and hard, and had no real taste at all. I think we've been trained to get all our flavor from sauces - they had lots of sauces available and brought them to the table on request. A basket of sweat potato fried was undercooked and too soft. Not so good even with salt and lots of sauces. Of course we didn't eat the signature burger....that's what The Stand is known for...so we didn't really give them a chance for their home run. The place was about 25% full at about 3pm so ambiance was fairly quiet and service was quick. Not sure about a return visit. We're on the fence. read more

I am going to round up my rating to 4 stars. It is located in the The Bluffs shopping centre off California State Route 73 and MacArthur Boulevard. The staff here are very friendly. Their menu is solid, with burgers and other items that make a casual meal. You can also order via their app to pick up. They get really busy at times, and orders take a little longer. There have been a few times when they made the wrong order by mixing up sauces among items I have ordered. For example, the sauces I order for fries were added to a hot dog. That can be annoying, especially when the orders state which condiments go with what items. They do correct the orders, which I appreciate. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Because the Newport Beach weather is amazing year-round, eating outdoors is definitely a treat. read more

We were incredibly disappointed with the quality of the food, especially the meat. The meat seemed very poor quality, and it tasted as though they were trying to mask it with an intense charcoal flavor. Instead of tasting naturally grilled or smoky, it had an overwhelmingly artificial, chemical taste that made it very unpleasant to eat. What was even more disturbing were the French fries. The potatoes used for the fries actually had mold on them. This was not simply an unusual or mold-like flavor--the potatoes themselves were moldy. We noticed it throughout the fries we were served, which is extremely concerning from both a food-quality and food-safety standpoint. We tired one and had to spit it out, were shocked so we thought that couldn't be the case, tried a few more and every fry was riddled with mold! For what we expected, the experience was incredibly disappointing. Serving poor-quality meat is one thing, AND being served potatoes with mold is completely unacceptable. I have to admit I was surprised and disappointed with my burger at The Stand. We came here for a family lunch, the service was great, very friendly and welcoming. The dining room is a small self-seating style, the restaurant and bathrooms were very clean. I ordered the ABC burger, my wife got the Onion Soup Burger and we got a hotdog for the little one. The ABC was very bland, I'm not quite sure what happened but it seemed odd considering the reviews I've heard from friends. I tried my wife's burger and I felt it was also lacking flavor. I will say I did enjoy the fries, they were great. My toddler enjoyed her hotdog and their sauces were fantastic. We got barbecue and ranch and both were very good. I'd give this spot another try for sure as it may have been a fluke and I enjoyed the fries and barbecue sauce. read more

Ordered a small salad with grilled chicken breast and a turkey burger with an extra beef patty to go. The salad was good. It has the better mixed greens (and not just lettuce) with some cucumbers and tomatoes. The chicken was juicy and tender. A bit thinner than The Stand in San Juan Capistrano but overall, it was very good. I was glad I checked the bag before I left because I got a turkey burger with double turkey patties instead of one turkey and one beef as ordered. Hubby loves his burgers so can't miss that. Notified kitchen staff and they quickly fixed it. But both meats came out burnt. I am a frequent customer, so I feel kind of regretful writing this. My last online order was a bit of a disappointment. Normally, I would have opened the bag and check before leaving, but even then, you can't really check unless you open each item's packaging, and that means the hamburger box, the separate paper bag of onion rings. I got to the office to eat my lunch and realized there were none of the side condiments I requested (side of ranch and side of ketchup), the veggie burger I bit into, I realized it didn't have my requests -- a brioche bun instead of the default bun, no pickled onions, and no crispy onions. I bit into these onions with surprise. I hope it was just a one -off mistake. I placed the order around 11am with a pick up at 11 50am - before the rush hour lunch. One of my all time favorite spots for lunch in the area, we usually Doordash it but I've dined here a few times too. Food is consistently great every time regardless of delivery. Service is always quick, helpful, and friendly. The dining area is kept clean and organized too. They do a great job here! I like to get the seared ahi tuna sandwich, the southwest chicken wrap with extra sweet chili aioli, and the onion rings! This spot has great onion rings! The Ahi Tuna sandwich is fresh tasting, lighter feel to it, so much less guilt, and very tasty. I like to add the lemon meyer sauce but I think they removed that now. The southwest chicken wrap is also SO good, great amount of protein and veggies but also so tasty.. sometimes I'll do 2x chicken. It doesn't do well as a leftover, the wrap gets soggy.. so that's a shame but I'm glad it's not full of preservatives! Love The Stand! read more

T'was the day before Christmas, and I was planning on heading out to celebrate the end of year holiday when all of a sudden, my lunch plans changed. Inside my inbox was a message from The Stand with the subject line "3X The Cheer: We're Closing Early Today." I was originally planning to have lunch elsewhere in Irvine, where they have a Stand location, but when I was Google Mapping The Stand in Orange County, this location in Newport Beach showed up! It's in a shopping center called The Bluffs, which is on the corner of MacArthur and Bison where the 73 meet, forming a nearly isosceles triangle, and that shopping center is the only entity within said triangle. Its close proximity to UC Irvine makes it a rather favorable spot for students who attend that university, but its rather small location wouldn't be able to accommodate as many groups unless they were to take their orders to a lounge area between Chipotle Mexican Grill and Stacks Pancake House. I don't take the 73 because it's a toll road. I took the 405 and got off on MacArthur where John Wayne Airport is. From there, you'd have to go south about 4 miles to The Bluffs. If you're trying to find The Stand, it would be on your left, but you also have to be careful that you don't pass it the first time. When you go southbound, you don't see a sign for "The Stand" since 1) The restaurant is located in the far corner of The Bluffs, which may be difficult to see with many a tree on MacArthur, and 2) You can only see The Stand on The Bluffs' streetside sign when you are driving northbound, but please know that you can only enter the plaza through Bison; if you're driving north and try to enter on MacArthur, you'll end up paying a toll. When I got in, Evan was at the front taking orders, and he was much more friendlier than the other cashiers who rang me up on my first visits to Long Beach, Tustin, and San Juan Capistrano. He stumbled a bit, however, when I asked him about their new turkey sandwich, and he proceeded to tell me about The Grand Stand Turkey, a regular menu item, and The Turkey Reuben, which had just come out a few days ago. I had him explain both, but it took him a while to bring up the descriptions on the register, and he even needed help from a female co-worker on The Turkey Reuben. Once Evan said sauerkraut, I was sold! Evan asked if I'd like any sides, which are a la carte. I asked him about Mac & Cheese, but I lost interest once he said the word "Kraft". I decided to go with Stand Slaw instead. This brought the cents portion of my subtotal to 9, and I wanted to see if the app would round up like Cafe Rio and MOD Pizza would do. Spoiler alert, it did not. I asked Evan how long I'd have to wait, and he said my order would be ready within the next 10 minutes. He became much more friendlier when he saw that I was a rewards member, but I sincerely hope that doesn't mean non-members don't get the VIP treatment as well! I hid at a two-person table by the wall with somewhat, though not terribly, wobbly chairs just to see if the server would notice where I was sitting, and she had no problem finding me about 9 minutes after I placed my order. She handed me a basket of Stand Slaw and The Turkey Reuben, but I noticed something was missing. "No napkins?" I asked. She went to get some. They really expected me to eat a messy sando with no napkins? lol The slaw wasn't too bad, but I felt there wasn't enough slaw dressing; either that, or it had all dripped to the bottom of the cup. However, it was quite small for $4. I may not get it again, but it was nice to try. The Turkey Reuben was much better, but also super greasy! I dropped the last 20% of my sandwich into my basket and ate it with the fork that came with The Stand Slaw. Shortly after, an employee whose name starts with a D and has the letter Z in it checked up on me. I told him I wish I had gotten some aioli to go with my Turkey Reuben, but he must have interpreted it as they forgot to include it in my order. He would have gotten me some, but I told him it was fine since I was almost done with my meal. What he did next shocked me: he gave me a chocolate chip cookie on the house! Just because I forgot to say the word "aioli" to Evan? lol the cookie itself was just your ordinary chocolate chip cookie that you could get anywhere else. If it had sea salt like in the olden days of Blaze Pizza, it would seriously taste that much better. Cookie or no cookie, I still would have given 4 stars overall. I was a little disappointed I didn't taste sauerkraut in the sandwich, which wasn't as much of a flavor explosion as I'd hoped, hence why I lamented not getting aioli. However, this was my best experience at any Stand location ever. I also gave the SJC location 4 stars, but that 4 stars was more like a 7.5 out of 10. This was closer to 8.25 out of 10. The last 4 words of the first paragraph may have also explained why service was better here; I still feel guilty about that free cookie lol read more

Just LOVE this place! I first tried it in Rancho Santa Margarita, then in Newport Beach so I was SUPER excited when this one went in near me in Santee! Mike has been here from their opening and he's always super friendly and helpful with orders. Their food is fresh and so very tasty. I don't eat any bread products, so my favorite is the short rib grilled cheese in a bowl! My friend got it normally today. Got their burger today with blue cheese in a bowl and onion rings. TBH, the blueberry lemonade must be laced with crack because it's addictive! read more

I rarely make yelp reviews if not ever. My experience at the stand today encouraged me to do so. We came in an hour to closing. There were still diners there so it is not like it was an abnormal time to come into the restaurant. When we first walked in, absolutely every table except for the very back had crumbs and/or trash. The chairs were not pushed in. It was difficult to find seating that was clean. When our food arrived, the buns were cold like they had just been taken out of the fridge. Overall poor dining experience. We left to go heat up our food because the cold burgers mixed with the messy ambience made the food unappetizing. I did end up notifying one of the workers about the conditions of the table. Ironic that a slogan posted in the restaurant was "we buss don't fuss" but we felt compelled to obviously clean our own table. I get that it's late on a Saturday. Sometimes people just want to go home and relax. But there could have been some effort into making the rest of the restaurant appetizing to eat at. read more

Wow, this place was packed and so busy. I loved the menu, there's so much to choose from. I wanted to try so many items. But I opted for the brisket grilled cheese and the salad that I keep hearing about. Both of them were excellent and would recommend it. I loved everything. Even with all the chefs being busy, they noticed I was waiting and made sure I was taken care of and that my food would be ready soon. They reassured me it was coming. Also I was looking for the sauce bar, I kept hearing on other people's videos that they have a good selection of sauces. I guess it's not at this location??? This was a pleasant surprise as we don't have this chain in Vegas (I wish we did). It's a casual kind of place, order at the counter and then they bring your food to the table. The service was great though! Someone came and checked on us a few times while we were eating. They brought us to go Bo's when needed and cleared dishes away as we were still chatting before leaving. I loved this southwest chicken salad! Full of lots of good stuff. It was filling and really delicious. I also had the sweet potato fries which were very good. My friend had the southwest wrap which was similar to the salad but wrapped in a tortilla. Would definitely eat here again! read more

The 5 stars here is based on their service is awesome and they SERVE a really great ROOT BEER FLOAT PRESENTATION IS everything. they use ice cold bottle of IBC and bring you a cup with vanilla soft serve ice cream so you can pour root beer into the ice cream as you please. THIS is the way a ROOT BEER FLOAT should be served , as far as the food; we ordered a chili cheese dog and chili cheese fries with bacon The chili is all beef no beans thank goodness. Chili needs to be all beef DO NOT USE BEANS in CHILI iT is a filler plain and simple for lousy chili. Anyway these were opened primarily as a hot dog stand and while the hot dog was a little better than average they need to get better hot dog buns these buns were not consistent meaning some parts of the bun were the correct consistency while other parts stayed hard and crisp??? I love The Stand and have dined at a few of their locations. This is most definitely the smallest one I've been to. Although located in a large plaza where there is plenty of parking, the interior is cramped compared to other locations. I visited on a Saturday around 4pm and the place was fairly quiet. Only two guys were working, one at the register and the other at the grill. I ordered a Stand Burger, cooked medium, along with a regular order of fries and a cookies and cream milkshake. The friendly fellow taking the order also offered some complimentary pickles and a cup for water. As my food was delivered to my table, a very large group of young adults from the nearby LDS church walked in. The place suddenly had a long line and was about to become packed. The two worker-guys didn't panic and worked as quickly as possible yet provided good service, one by one. I started to eat but realized my milkshake hadn't been delivered. As I looked up, I saw the fellow at the register dash out the front door and return with a milkshake in his hand which he took with him back to the front counter and continued to help the long line of hungry youth. I quickly figured out that a delivery driver had come in to pick up an order and also walked out with my shake which had been set out but not yet brought to my table. I walked up to the front counter, grabbed the milkshake, and asked the now frantic guy at the register if it was mine and he told me "yes". Not sure why it wasn't brought to me...I just hoped he saved it before the delivery driver sucked a few sips through the straw! The burger was superb. The thick, juicy beef patty was obviously top-notch quality beef. Betweeen the delicious brioche bun the lettuce and tomato were fresh and the pickles and sauce added to a perfect burger. Their fries were excellent and the milkshake was as good as a milkshake can be. Although my experience was a bit odd I still enjoyed my meal very much. read more

I'm a bit sensitive to oily stuff and definitely felt the grease hit afterwards just a headsup - Food: Sweet potato fries were the star of the show 10/10, not too oily nor salty and fried to perfection. The turkey sandwich was 8/10, good but nothing special. My friend told me the French Onion was good but the soup portion was a bit salty. The food was great but horrible customer service, i was ordering my food and some young lady which I'm assuming is the MANAGER interrupted my family and i and made us wait 10 minutes just to joke around with her friend. She came back after 10 minutes and was so rude towards us, but we didnt let it bother us, but we kept asking for sauces and she kept ignoring us, don't know if she was racial profiling us but please talk to her and change this. Listen we stopped here 30 minutes before closing and the cashier was friendly and still took our order just letting us know it would be to go. No problems there. The fountain machine had variety but the ice was rogue! It would just shoot out all over your hand and onto the floor ( that would explain the wet floor in front of said machine). Anyways we got our order and there was a minor mix up of what we wanted on each of our burgers , ( I wanted raw onions , my wife didn't and had a few) but nothing too bad there. We sat outside in the seated area and were enjoying our burgers. Nothing too fancy but still decent. I get all the way to the end of the burger and bit into and pulled out a long fabric like string of some sort . The place was closed so I couldn't walk in and complain ,but I was very disappointed that this happened. I threw the last portion away since I had already consumed over 90% of it anyways. Ordered a turkey sandwich with extra bacon, extra turkey & dill last week. Didn't get the dill. Manager Ian said they would replace the sandwich and make it right. Couple days later I took him up on it. Got my sandwich, got home and it didn't have the extra turkey. A let down for sure but the last straw is when I ordered the turkey sandwich again this time without the extra turkey and this is what I got. Our family loves The Stand and they really like to go on weekends. Food was delicious. I got the southwest burger and it really satisfied my taste buds. Get that burger if you're in to Mexican food. Waiters and waitresses were really kind and helpful. Place was really nice and clean. It provided everything we needed at well, such as bathrooms and drinks. They also have outdoor seating and indoor seating. If you want some drinks for later after you eat, there is a really good boba shop called Teasync right next to it. The food and milkshakes were so good! The only reason I took off a star is because I found a wire in my onion stack burger among the onion strings. It was battered and fried so luckily when I bit into it i got more the batter sliding off the wire then the wire itself. The cashier was mortified and apologetic as well as refunded me for the burger and made me a new one. The cook seemed annoyed and unfazed so I was hesitant to eat the 2nd made burger there and kinda lost my appetite. Before all that the onion stack burger was really good and was very flavorful. First time here and i was accused by Martin as being verbally offensive, he specifically said sir i remember you and this is not the first time you've done this.. Ive never been here was he being racist. Seems like it. The issue: i went up and asked for a side of avocado that i had paid for. When i looked back the 2 females were looking at the screen trying to confirm that i had paid for the extra avocado.
