    Afternoon tea
    Katarina L.

This review is just for their afternoon tea (oh my gosh I feel so fancy even typing that) and not for a hotel stay. My group of about 15 or so came here while visiting DC and had a really wonderful afternoon. Firstly, the room is beautiful. You can come decked out in your finest high tea outfit and fancy hat and you'll fit right in. Most of us just wore sundresses or a kind of nice outfit and felt very comfortable. You choose between the Royal tea and the English, Royal having a few more lite bites (our whole group went English and had plenty to snack on). You'll choose from their large selection of teas and everyone will get their own teapot. The finger sandwiches and scones were all so tasty and great to snack on. I would definitely recommend just making this your lunch or breakfast as their will be PLENTY of food and you won't want to eat for a while afterwards. A really wonderful experience!

High Tea at the Henley was lovely -- scones, sweets and small squares of meats & florentine. The tea choices were varied and we all enjoyed a full pot each. My Pearls of Jasmine tea was flavorful and hot.

The email that night from the hotel

I was excited to stay at a cute brick historic hotel bc it's so different from the more modern designed hotels. My stay started out fine, nothing spectacular but I was comfortable. I was there to visit friends and go to the convention nearby. On the 2nd night on my way back in for the day I saw a big rat on the street, not the hotels fault by any means so I wrote it off. The next day I was coming in from my convention and touring the city, I go into my room and I notice a piece of wrapped hersheys chocolate on the nightstand that I had left was chewed up and nibbled. I knew right away there was a rodent (rat or mouse) in the room. The hotel offered another room immediately but I have a phobia of rodents, I checked out and left thinking I would get a full refund for the inconvenience. The front desk did not offer to help me find a different hotel or transport and I left walking with all my bags across the street. The doorman was nice enough to help me with my bags to cross the street to the Marriott marquis which was also holding the convention. The front desk man at the Henley even seemed upset at me but then later that night I got an apologetic email (attached). The hotel took pictures and luckily didn't deny the allegation. I also took pictures (attached) but was too scared to look under the bed. On the first day I did look under the bed after dropped something and it was very dirty with crumbs but the bed frame is too low to the ground I know they can't get a vacuum underneath. Makes me wonder if the whole hotel had a rodent issue and they already knew the drill. I understand things happen but I would expect hospitable service and a full refund. I am not a combative person and was very nice but when I went to speak to the manager which I think was named Erick the next morning, he became a bit combative/argumentative with just a little push back and was extremely unprofessional. He told me he would try to get me a full refund. When the refund began to take more than week to be reflected I decided to call chase travel since I booked through them. Chase travel went through 3 different managers who refused to give me the full refund. I paid for 5 nights and left on the 3rd day, leaving 3 nights. They only agreed to refund me much less than half of my stay which doesn't add up at all. Now it's been 3 weeks and I still haven't seen any refund at all. When I call them they say it's Expedias fault (I booked through chase travel). They tell me to call Expedia and when I do there is no information from my stay bc I didn't even book through them. Chase travel says it's the hotels fault. So at this point all fingers are pointing to the ignorance of this hotel. This whole situation is so frustrating, I tried to kill them with kindness but now I learned it does not pay to be kind in these types of situations. It was so expensive to get another hotel same day and Henley park hotel should have offered at least some kindness and assistance. Stay away from this hotel as it likely has a rodent infestation.

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. After staying here only twice, I've claimed it as my DC home away from home. My first stay was in May. I'd considered staying at the nearby Moxy or The Eaton, but something about Henley Park pulled me in. The front desk folks were so welcoming, it felt as though they had met me before and were already welcoming me back. I was told that Tom Joyner used to stay regularly in the room I was being given. Tucked away in a cul de sac, the room was perfect. There was no noise from the hallway my entire stay. I had a pleasant view of Massachusetts Ave, and a bank of windows I spent a good amount of time observing city life from. I would have felt comfortable entertaining in the room, as it had a comfortable couch and a chair in addition to a queen bed. I loved that there were a robe, a Keurig, and a safe. The dresser was so cute I wanted to take it home. I love that there are usb ports in the lamps. Modern amenities, quirky touches, and old world charm mix and create such a vibe, I hardly wanted to leave. There were no refrigerators in the rooms I stayed in, and I really needed one on my July visit, but I made it work. I had a smaller room in July, but it was still pleasant, with the same amenities minus the Massachusetts Ave. view and cozy seating. My train was late and I had a friend waiting in the lobby for me for longer than either of us expected. When I arrived, I found that a hotel staff member had kept her company and kept her spirits up. He even made me laugh, and I was terribly cranky at the time. The location, at Mount Vernon Square, between the Convention Center and Chinatown, is superb. It was a straight shot up the road from and to Union Station on arrival and departure. I walked to The Eaton, Sakina Grill, and Metro Center in May, and the Tatte near the little park on I Street, where I sat and people and pigeon watched in July. I was also able to easily walk to meet my friend who was staying at another downtown hotel halfway. When I lived in DC metro years ago, I thought of K street as the most city chaos that DC had to offer. True, I was mostly experiencing downtown then during the busy workday or on the way to downtown nightlife. Fast forward a few decades, and staying at the Henley, off K St. even, on a weekend, feels peaceful. I even rode a city bike for the first time down K St., back to the hotel. The lobby. Omg I love the lobby. The website states that "the original parlor has welcomed guests since 1918." I love its time gone by charm, especially in contrast with the multi-ethnic composition of the staff and guests and other differences between daily life in the 21st century vs. the early 20th. Someone I rode the train up with for my July stay was dressed for cosplay. Once I arrived, it was very cool to see cosplaying guests who were attending the Comic Con at the nearby convention center flow in and out of the hotel, providing such an interesting contrast to the early 20th century decor. At one point, I shared the space with a young woman who walked in on hooves. In July, I had a late dinner with a friend at the Tavern inside the hotel. We were the last visitors of the evening. The fennel and champagne vinaigrette on the tavern salad - chef's kiss. Our server was wonderful. We had such a nice talk about family and home, his original home being Morocco. After dinner, we moved to the little alcove area in the lobby where I'd previously taken selfies. There's a small table with seating for two. We sat there for a long time, and it was like being in a comfortable living space in someone's home. The Henley Park Hotel is my #1 choice of hotel in the DC area. The customer service, the lobby, the location, and the overall feel of this place are all impeccable. With a plethora of hotels downtown, I almost hate to tell people about this one. Feels like I'm giving away a secret that's really just for me...

My fiancé had his parents over from Europe and we were planning an overnight stay in DC. We booked the Henley because the location looked ideal. I have an emotional support dog who has been registered federally for years. She has a certificate and card which I carry with me at all times. As well as a letter from my doctor. I advised the hotel, as I always do, however their response was a simple "no." They would not allow me to bring my emotional support animal to their property. She is a 10lb yorkie. 12 yrs old that I push in a stroller. I immediately canceled my reservation and went with a much more accommodating hotel. I would never recommend such a discriminatory hotel. I have not stayed here only dealt with their terrible and rude customer service. I hope others had a different experience but some of the reviews leave me to believe otherwise. Perhaps a new way of thinking is in order.

    Outdoor area

It's a very large suite that has well decorated designated areas that allow for you to lounge, sleep, and work/study separately.

    Dreamy room!

I recently stayed there for 2 nights. The room was nice and big, but a lot of traffic noise/horns outside. The staff was very nice & I specifically want to brag on Sega. He was very professional & personally remembered my name and my son's when I showed up. I was so glad I got to meet him.

Three tiered cake stand held a middle tier of open-faced tea sandwiches, and two tiers of dried fruit scones.

That jetted tub was supposed to earn its keep. The room: genuinely beautiful. The technology: aggressively dated. The vibe: a 90s time capsule, complete with missing doorknobs. There was effort here, but it felt like the hotel was holding its breath, afraid any real investment might trigger the next recession. What they got right: The bellhops were fantastic. Warm, personable, fun. Truly the highlight. Most staff we interacted with were polite and willing to help, which made the gaps elsewhere even more confusing. What they got wrong (beyond the dated room and tech): For a hotel that loudly advertises luxury service, the customer experience fell flat. Outside of the arrival bowl of fruit, nothing felt elevated. Night two, we ordered pizza and planned a cozy Home Alone movie night. The technology made streaming impossible. Fine, cable it is. We called the concierge and asked for two plates. Just two. The answer was a flat no. We were told to walk down to the lobby restaurant and see if they might have plates "to spare." I'm sorry, what? The next morning, room service arrived... with someone else's order. It was corrected, but for a luxury hotel, that kind of miss is surprising. Housekeeping came through, but only halfway. The coffee and minibar were never restocked. In a suite. At a luxury hotel. This is table stakes. At 9:30 PM we stopped by the lobby circle bar. It was immediately clear the bartenders did not want to be there. I get it, service work is hard. Still, opening our interaction by warning us about last call at 11 set a strange tone. By 10:00, one bartender disappeared for 45 minutes. No refills. No check-in. No bill. Breaks are important. Coverage is also important, especially when you're selling a premium experience. Beyond the bellhops, much of the staff felt irritated to be present. Front desk to concierge, the energy was less "historic luxury hotel" and more "counting down the minutes." The hotel was also clearly prioritizing weekend tea and brunch revenue, to the point that the historic lobby was clogged with extra tables and largely unusable for actual hotel guests. Bottom line: this was not a luxury experience, and I would not recommend it. I'm only posting this publicly because I reached out directly to hotel management and never received a response. At that point, a review feels necessary.

May I also suggest providing more than one bar of mini soap bars. It's such a minuscule cost item but would obviate having to repeatedly move the precious one bar from sink to shower. We found the valet staff particularly helpful especially when navigating awkward arrivals and parking needs of our personal guests. Sean was a prince. He supervised an otherwise complicated set of logistics with competence and gentlemanly grace. Another shout out to the manager ( sou?) of the breakfast dining. We watched him rigorously oversee staff and guests while occasionally stepping in when helpful. His leadership is likely responsible for the professionalism of said staff. This is in direct contrast to the staff of the Willard across the street where we took the first breakfast of our stay. We were dismayed to have to endure extremely loud staff socializing, boisterous laughter and downright flirting. This type of behavior would have been unacceptable at the JWMarriott. This experience alone confirms our future choice of Marriott over Willard for annual DC visits.

Traveling can be exhausting, and during our stay, my son Colin often went down to the bar and restaurant on his own in the evenings and mornings. He ordered his meals, sat comfortably, enjoyed his time, and never once felt awkward or out of place. The staff made sure he had what he needed, checked in on him naturally, and created an environment where he felt completely at ease. As a parent, that level of care is something you never forget. For me, the experience was just as special. Corey, the bartender, was exceptional. Each evening, he made sure I had exactly what I wanted, when I wanted it, and engaged in thoughtful, easy conversation that made the space feel welcoming and safe. It wasn't just service--it was connection, and it made a long, tiring trip feel restorative. This hotel doesn't just deliver luxury--it delivers humanity. The central cherry blossom tree is the showstopper, and the main reason I chose the Waldorf for our afternoon tea. I had heard that there are several cherry blossom-themed afternoon teas all over DC that may have better food options, but this was the only one with decor this grand. My main concern was with our seating. I had called ahead of time to ask if they could accommodate my group to have a close seating location close to the cherry blossom tree due to our special occasion. The staff assured me during two separate calls that they would be able to accommodate our request, but upon getting seated, we were seated in the far corner by the bar. It is true that there is a fair view of the cherry blossom tree everywhere in the lobby, but I was disappointed at our far vantage point given the fact that I had called to confirm a close spot to the cherry blossom tree twice in advance. This is because I wanted to originally schedule the premium experience (premium seating, champagne, and fine china), but it was not available to groups larger than 4 and we were a group of 6. The service was otherwise perfectly fine and the portions of food were generous and tasty. We were all definitely full after finishing our savory bites. Our collective favorites were the chicken cherryaki and crab beignet bites, but we all appreciated the diverse offerings. We also had a friend with a peanut allergy dining with us, and they accommodated her easily by separating her pastries onto a separate tiered tray. It looks like the only item with a possible nut allergen was the crab beignet (her version had tofu). Despite the mild issues with seating, the experience was gorgeous. As a cherry blossom lover, I can see myself doing this every time I'm back in town. - Ambiance: 5/5 - Service: 4/5 - Food: 4/5
