We only found out about this place from the locals in Belleville so we had to give it a try! It is a quality, family-owned stand. They were welcoming and excited for us to try their food. We got the fried cod and it was cooked perfectly; crispy on the outside, soft and flaky on the inside. Can't wait to come back!

Not amazing but not bad. The fish was freshly cooked but a little over fried to me. The fries were fried perfectly but they had a distinct frist bitten taste. The fried okra was tasty and the hush puppies were a hit. The mac and cheese was bland and the portion was not enough for my 10 year old (if she would have liked it). The small brownie bite with the kid's meal was yummy.(per my kids) but the grocers are fair and portions of fish are decent.

I ordered take out catfish plate with hush puppies and baked beans. Also ordered take out kids cod plate. When I got home, the 5 piece order of hush puppies were all visibly burned and enclosed in foil (see attached picture). The cat and cod fish was just OK but didn't taste freshly made. The baked beans tasted like they were straight from the can with little seasoning. I won't be back.

Most amazing. Catfish filet, fried okra, cole slaw & onions/pickles.

We usually frequent this in the spring-but the fish is so good. I recommend it highly.

The cod was amazing! I've always heard people talk about it but have never tried it until today. I'll definitely be going back!

Fish is good but those teeny tiny sides are pathetic! That are fine maybe for a 5 year old!

Best catfish in the area. We went around to every fish fry every Friday last year during Lent trying their fish. Swansea won hands down .

Husband, myself, and one of the kids joined me for dinner here. I was excited to try this place out…read moresince it reopened. ( I never had the chance to try when it was originally open) They were busy! Which I did expect as downtown belleville had a few things going on. They were so busy that sadly they were out of meatloaf and limited on some hoagie type Sandwich. I ordered the pub burger with the garlic mashed potatoes. The burger itself wasn't bad a little too salty than I'm use to. I swore I asked the waitress for the garnishes to be put on the side but they had it all on the burger. ( no big deal) the garlic mashed potatoes was a staple according to a guest that was talking to us as they left. They were good. Mine came out a little on the almost past the Luke warm stage ( I was a little bummed on that). Our oldest ordered the bone in wings buffalo flavor as a meal ( it's an appetizer) she said those were good. We also shared their French onion dip with chips. Husband had the same pub burger but he got his with steak fries. He wast thrilled that he couldn't order the burger in rare form. He too thought the burger itself was a little on the saltier aside. The prices seemed a little steep on some of the menu. ( expected on steaks and fish) I had to give them a bit of grace with all the chaos going on. Our server was kind and attentive. They didn't have much options for the festive drinks. I ordered their thin mint martini. I'd love to give them another shot in the future when it's less chaotic and they have food we want available. I will say th bar itself is cute. Reminds me of cheers. They had their front area setup with fire pits/heat lamps and tables to enjoy some hot chocolate that was only $3 for reg but if you wanted to "boozie" it up it would depend on the alcohol. They had cookies out from The cookie stroll that they offered for free. Then had a nice set up for those interested in making s'mores! Charlie's is located within historic downtown Belleville on the corner of Abend. There is only street side parking available. Keep in mind they do have breakfast or brunch too on weekends.

On a street filled with restaurants you might think you're in the middle of the dining district. Then you turn off that main strip and you're walking into what feels like an industrial corridor, suspiciously empty. If you didn't know better, you might assume you were about to stumble into a secret society event. Once inside the transformation is immediate. A bar that feels both intimate and inviting. The space somehow blends old-world Italy with hints of Eastern European charm -- romantic without being pretentious. I began with Pierogies -- delicate and comforting -- followed by a deeply rich French Onion Gratinee that set the tone for what was to come. The Braised Short Rib Poutine was indulgent in the best possible way, layers of flavor stacked on pure comfort. The highlight of the evening was the Senku Australian Wagyu Flank Steak, perfectly prepared and worthy of being the centerpiece of the night. My companion for the evening dined on the Oysters, Arugula Salad, Tuna Carpaccio, as well as the Senku Australian Wagyu Flank Steak. And then dessert: a dark chocolate torte finished with gold leaf -- dramatic, decadent, and exactly the right ending. One of the unexpected pleasures of the evening was the open view into the kitchen. Watching the chefs work is like watching choreography -- precise, efficient, artistic. I'm sure they don't always enjoy being observed but it's impossible not to admire the craft. Somewhere during the evening it occurred to me that "Blood and Sand" was ironic and fitting for the circumstances of my visit. History tends to use it when passion becomes spectacle and not everyone is playing the part they auditioned for. Blood and Sand is the kind of place that doesn't announce itself loudly, it hides in plain sight waiting to be discovered.

Unfortunately despite the establishment having a tasting menu and using culinary language, the food was a hodgepodge of elements that worked and elements that did not. None of our dishes earned 5/5 and none were memorable taste wise. With a hefty price tag to boot there are better places to go in St. Louis. We had two drinks, one was watery and one was delicious (pictured).
