About a year after having it shipped from NY I had a few issues pop up. Not knowing anyone I took it to the dealer. They wanted 3 times as much as the car is worth to fix it. I bought a used Volvo Cross Country and made an apponitment to have the car looked at. The day before the appointment the check engine light showed up. Perfect timing, I was able to drive the car to the shop. Within a couple hours we had error codes, a plan, and an estimate for the work. We expected to have to wait for parts and didn't expect the car would be done for 3 or 4 days. We were lucky and the car was ready towards the end of the following day. The difference was measurable...it was like a completely different car. They fixed all the error codes, perfromed an extensive 120k mile service, and replaced a an another belt and pully not in the original plan...all while managing to stay within my budget. When I picked up the car the had a prioritized list of other things they found during the service, which we can address in the coming months. I loved the car before it was serviced, but was worried I'd taken a risk, and was going to regret my decision. It made it tough to realy enjoy the car. I'm happy to say that I fell in love completely on the drive home. I really appreciated how thorough they were, the accuracy of the estimate, and the list of items we can address in the near future. I'm a mechanical engineer and typically do most of my car work at home - oil changes, brakes, rotors, fluid flushes etc. but when I come across a good mechanic, I take the bigger more complicated stuff to them. Anders is fantastic, he is well aware of some of the common trouble spots, in my case the AC compressor clutch and weak axles on my Volvo C30. He put spacers on the clutch to fix the AC but told me to come back if the gap expands and we need an all new one. For the axles he said to hold off until they wear down, the job is expensive and not necessary yet. Very honest and practical advice, will definitely bring my C30 to him again when it's time for the timing belt. read more

Anders was quick to point to the few possibilities he wanted to check and confirmed quickly with the Tech-2 tool essential to diagnosing all but the newest generation SAABs. He identified and solved that misfire (a bad, older style ignition coil that had been superseded) and had me on my way quickly. I understand that owning a European car is hard when it comes to maintaining it especially if it is a Saab, a brand that is no longer around. I am a proud owner of a Saab 9-3 and Anders is my "go-to" guy whenever I have problems or questions. Anders is an extremely honest mechanic, not the type of mechanic that will come up with bs reasons just to steal every dime from you. I took my car in for inspection and service a few times. One time he quoted me X amount to fix my convertible roof parts, when i went to collect my car, he took 40-50 dollars off the original labor cost and his reason was "it didn't take that long to do". I went back another time thinking that there was something wrong with my engine, he only charged me for diagnostic and ended up telling me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. On top of that, he threw in some little easy fixes such as replacing 8 blown bulbs that ended up costing me less than the price of one bulb from auto zone! The other fixes includes some missing screws and headlight bulb cover and they were done for free! He is also a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to these cars. I popped my hood to show him the engine once, instantly, after a few seconds of looking at it, he was able to point out certain things that were wrong with my car. I was impressed! Anders is also very professional when it comes to customer service, organizing paper work and explaining problems. He usually prints out a very nice receipt with a detailed explanation of the problems that he found and what he fixed along with some little recommended repairs that you can do in the near future. I also forgot the mention that he throws in a little inspection after each service to make sure his customers are safe on the road! Whenever i have questions about my baby, i would call him and he would take some time out of his busy schedule to listen and answer whatever questions you have in detailed and list out every thing that might be wrong with your car. The price he charges for diagnostic and repair is fair. Not too cheap but wouldn't break your bank either. At the end of the day, he has all the rights and reasons to charge that much because he is a professional Saab and Volvo guy. read more

Swedish cars don't line up the streets here on the West Coast, and as a result, mechanics can be hard to locate. Anders (the sole proprietor) is a good mechanic, and he has always been honest with me, and my car has always done well after visiting his shop. My only complaint is that for a while I had a rattle under my hood, and Anders diagnosed my problem to be the timing chain getting lose because the tensioner was all the way extended. He showed me how he measured the tensioner, and to this date, I still believe him... but after getting a second opinion, they found that the rattle was one of the fan belt pulleys. Anders quoted me 2.5K, and the wheel cost me 0.15K to replace. edit: since the above incident, I started going to swedish pro-tech, but I recently went to them to get a 90k service and to check the CEL code. They tried to swindle me by telling me my shocks were bad and that my s-belt needed to be replaced. what??? I mean, my car isn't bouncing like the shocks are bad, and there are no cracks in the belt, no squeaky squeaky from the belt slipping, so is he serious??? And this after I just asked them to check my CEL code, which turned out to be aging spark plugs... sheesh... at any rate, I ended up taking my car back to Anders, and he did a fantastic job on my car... I have my confidence restored in Anders, and I would recommend him to others whole heartedly. read more

Honest, fair, friendly, competent. This place is rated all 5 stars for a good reason. When I first came here after a friend's recommendation, I was hopeful that this one-man operation might become my permanent mechanic for my 2006 Saab. I'd much rather support an entrepreneur that's doing what he loves than a big dealership that does repairs before they are really needed. Anders, the owner, really has this feel like he just stepped off the plane from Sweden to be a mechanic. He always explains what needs to be done, why, and if you have any options available. I've even had him do a phone consult for 10 minutes to explain a problem to him and ask whether I needed to take my car in or just monitor the problem. He said he'd look at it the next time I brought it in but that there was no hurry - find me another mechanic that will tell you not to come in! If my car ever broke down, I'd glad pay to have it towed 40 miles to Anders' garage rather than to a nearby dealer - he will save you money and peace of mind knowing he's not going to cheat and overcharge you. When I take my car in, there are often small repairs that need to be done - loose molding, minor paint scrapes from my tiny garage. I've never had him charge me to do small repairs with my service which is very refreshing! I can't recommend him highly enough if you need a mechanic for your Saab or Volvo! If it's your first time, be advised that because he works alone, he can't always answer the phone when he's working in the garage - just leave a message and he will return your call. Also, it's easy to miss the location since his garage isn't visible from the street and GPS only gets you so close. Look for the "SIMPSON GASOLINE ALLEY" sign over the entrance and drive towards the back and you'll see plenty of Volvos and Saabs where his garage is at. read more

Wow - He's the real deal!!! Hands down the best mechanic that I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. SERVICE When I first arrived, Anders (the owner) was on the phone patiently explaining repairs to someone. But he took a quick moment to acknowledge that I walked in with a friendly hello. He fixed the car under the time promised (which was great - since I was waiting for the repairs). But most importantly, he was so amazing nice and transparent about everything that he changed on the car. He took the time to show me all the replaced parts - and exactly why the repairs were necessary. (The timing belt had tiny little cracks). EYE FOR DETAIL! He also has an amazing eye for detail. When he was replacing the oil - he also replaced a light bulb. Apparently the last mechanic replaced it with a white light bulb - and it requires a yellow bulb. (He informed us that police officers can pull you over for this minor detail if they are being nitpicky.) After the repairs. He took the car for a quick spin - and then rehooked it up to the machine to check for error messages. PRICE He was priced well under what the other shops (Santa Monica, Beverly Hills) were quoting. He saved us $150-$200. The location helps him save - which he than passes on to us as customers :) I was so pleased with his work that I asked if he knew of any independent BMW shops - unfortunately, he did not. I have a V70 R and the check engine light came on a few weeks back. Having recently purchased the car and never owning a Swedish car in the past, I hit the internet to do some research. Armed with Yelp and the OBD II code I made a few calls and sent a few emails. Not only was Anders the only person to email me back, he did so within 20 minutes and confirmed that he had also received my voice mail. I brought my car in on a Saturday, and by that afternoon he had diagnosed the problem. At first he tried to clean out the faulty part, but it did not help so he had to order a replacement that would be in on Monday. He also found a few more small issues that I had already known about and offered to fix those as well. He even replaced tail lights that were out and charged less than I could have bought the bulbs for at Kragen. Anders prices are a fraction of what you will pay at the dealership and I can honestly say he will win over your trust after your first visit. Anders really knows his Saabs--no question about that. If there's a clearly better Saab shop in all of Southern CA I don't know about it. He has proven fair with his prices--not bargain service but not overpriced either--and I've done a significant amount of work here. This would be the only place I'd take my car for repair service if I could (I live quite aways away so tend to only make the journey when I have especially difficult or extensive work to be done). Nice guy and good service. My 2007 Sabb was due its first major service. My local Saab dealer quoted me "starting at $800". I wasn't willing to pay that much for a simple service. So I looked around online. I saw great reviews for Two Guys from Sweden. However despite calling them several times and leaving voicemails they never responded to me with a quote. They were also rude on the phone. I ended up taking my car to SwedeCars. Anders is a firendly/ helpful guy with years of experience on Volvo's and Saab's. With tax and everything my service cost around $550. His shop is kind of in the middle of an industrial area. So there is nothing much to do nearby. If you are taking your car there, I would recommend having someone else pick you up, otherwise it could be a boring wait. You can make an appointment from his website. I am writing a review for a repair shop I have not even been to. So the dealer said I needed a new radiator & transmission to the tune of $5400. In shock, I called Right Solution Inc./SaabTech who were very knowledgeable & helpful and they recommended that I call Anders for his advice. Anders all but refused my business saying there was no guarantee on a cheaper fix than replacing both items because there was no way of knowing the extent of the damage. He thoroughly explained a number of different issues. He even recommended selling the car to a DIYer. His first piece of advice was the best; call Saab Customer Service and see what they would do to assist as this was a known problem since 2006. I did just that and Saab offered a 60/40 cost share; me paying 60%. As the car has over 99K miles and is way past warranty, so I thought this was ok. After my first call to Anders, he also said I could email him any other questions and to let him know what happens. I've since sent him questions on my predicament and he's answered in less than an hour. Talk about service. . . for a non-customer. You bet I'll be driving my Saab to Torrance for my next service. read more

I am comfortable doing basic auto maintenance myself like oil changes, spark plugs, brake pads, etc. However, when my Volvo V70 started making a whining noise during every left turn I knew this problem was beyond my skill level. I turned to the Volvo forums to see if other DIY mechanics could help me diagnose the problem. The consensus was a worn wheel bearing and it would cost a few hundred to fix. Great! Now to find a mechanic. I turned to Yelp and found Swedecar in Torrance. I spoke to Anders and he tried to diagnose the problem over the phone but couldn't figure it out so he asked me to bring the car in later that day. I didn't share with him my research because I wanted an un-biased opinion of the problem. After a quick test drive he thought for five seconds and said "It's your power steering fluid. It is low and air bubbles are getting into your system. That whining noise is the air going through the system". We went back to his shop, topped off the fluid, and the car runs beautifully now. Based on the abundance of positive reviews online I brought my '99 Volvo V70 to Anders for service right after I bought it in '09. I was not disappointed and I've been a loyal customer ever since, He is easy to communicate with, and has given me lots of advice over the phone and via email, even helping me take care of a bunch of issues by myself. Anders is a real gem. He doesn't shy away from the older RWD Volvos which is something of a rarity these days. Most mechanics won't touch them due to their age at this point and how finicky they can be. Anders is very thorough, efficient and highly detail oriented which definitely appeals to perfectionist in me. He quickly diagnosed the rattle in the rear suspension of my '91 245. It appears he took the entire thing apart to inspect all the bushings to make sure they weren't tired and arrived at the conclusion that my shocks were bad. He also did a welfare check on the car. He topped off the coolant, topped off the washer fluid and fixed my license plate bulb which apparently stopped working at some point. He also noticed my right, rear window regulator bolts were loose so the regulator was twisting itself in its mounting holes and not turning the regulator as efficiently as possible. He left that job to me so I tightened them up and that particular window rolls up and down better than it has in a long time. Before this, I figured I was on the hook for a new window regulator but now it doesn't appear to be necessary so he saved me money as well. Best of all the noise from the suspension is gone and now I can get to solving the other noises on the interior of the car. He works on Saabs and later model volvos as well. I highly recommend Swedecar to anyone who owns a Swedish car. read more

The service is always top notch, and Anders (the owner) is a true honest mechanic (not just a tech) who KNOWS these cars inside and out. I had a common Saab issue with my A/C not being able to regulate the temp.
