Living in California and keeping up with all the laws can be confusing. These guys can answer any question you throw at them. Definitely whining here / not huge deal at all I don't like the fact I can't pick my ammo up when it arrives. You have to wait a day for them to grab it from the back. Walked in to inquire about purchasing a handgun. William assisted me who was very helpful and patient in explaining what I needed to do. I was able to take the required written test and acquire my certificate to purchase and own a handgun. I have gone and heard many locations having low or no inventory of handguns, but Swennyey's Sport Inc had enough for me to choose from. William showed and explained several types of handguns that was available and what they had in stock and pointed out differences and pros and cons of each piece. He shared some personal insights and I welcomed any recommendations about purchasing the best and most appropriate for me. He also recommended other handguns that would be more appropriate for my wife. We definitely learned a lot on this first visit and can't wait to pick it up (10 days after the purchase). Sweeney's is great I go here all the the time and the employees are so nice and helpful. Alex the owner is always helping me with whatever I don't work there but he offers for me to help for gift cards he's always so friendly he's a great fisherman and great business man. Shane the manger is also very nice he knows a lot about bass fishing and and taught me about ithe has given me one of his personal lures before and told me how to use my gear when I was new to fishing. Nico another employee is so nice and always great to talk too and helpful. I have gotten a free hat from the owner and they always are restocking with new lures, rods bait and other products I don't know anything about the gun shop but I do know that Sweeney's doesn't own it anymore but they have a great selection of hunting products in the fishing shop. They also have great reels and will spoil them for you when you buy them and finally the products value and quality is great. Not impressed with the service behind the counter of the gun store. They really need to do better at customer service especially if it's people just working in the area and have never been to this particular store before. I was picking up on a condescending tone which reminded me of how gun store employees come off as "gate keeping". I did in fact purchase one firearm there (because they didn't have it at my hometown gun store) and again the guys behind the counter come off with some type of attitude. At the end of it all when I'm about to receive my my purchased item the dude says I need to do proficiency test with dummy rounds to show I know what I'm doing. I've never had to do that before in the multiple gun stores that I've purchased from and also I'm an Iraq/Afghanistan veteran that knows what I'm doing and has continued and improved my firearms training since leaving the service. After the "test" the power tool behind the counter went on to say the "things I did wrong" according to him. I just kept my mouth shut, staring blankly at him, thinking that this dude just wants an excuse to not release my firearm to me. I don't understand where this proficiency test is coming from but if I pay for the gun and my background check comes back approved for said gun then I should just have my purchase and leave. If these dudes attitudes would have been better, and they don't come off as condescending power tools, then I might not have left with such sour taste. This is the place to go for Archery equipment and hunting...period. I am a novice bow hunter, my husband is experienced. We went to Chad in order to recalibrate an existing bow in order for me to shoot it properly. Chad did all he could to adapt the bow to my shooting frame. It was not going to be comfortable for me to shoot it. So, he introduced several new , introductory bows to try. Great local gun store with great staff and prices. They answered all my questions well. I bought my Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm here. They laminated my FSC card for me when I bought it so it wouldn't get torn. When I picked it up 10 days later, I found that they had cleaned the factory preserves out of it for me so I didn't have to break it down to do it and could head straight to the range with it. It's my favorite gun I own and is my concealed carry weapon. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody looking to buy a new handgun. read more

This is a guns and fishing tackle shop. I go here for my fishing needs only. Here's one of the better fly fishing outfitters in the area. They have good selection of gear for the area including saltwater fly fishing. The fly guy there is super friendly and knowledgeable. They also have a good selection for conventional fishing. Not so much for offshore but they got it covered for inshore, bay, delta, freshwater, etc. A better selection of reels than rods. Lots of fishing line choices. Local custom stuff including lures. I went in and ask advise to buy everything i needed to go fishing, one of the guys helped me and put together everything i will need. When i get to the spot and cast, the top of my rod separates from the bottom, and goes inside the water, short story, i lost it and payed 126 dollars for nothing, i went back to the store and ask for a replacement or to get my money back, they said it wasnt possible. This is ridiculous giving that it was that guys fault who never set it up correctly. read more

I have been debating leaving this review for a longtime, it seems like every time I go in there I am treated differently. One time it is good, the next it is not. Well this last time I was back in the firearm section a younger lad with blonde hair was spouting off about legal advice, which was blatantly incorrect and then proceeded to ignore me for about 10 minutes before even acknowledging my presence. When he finally did he was a complete tool. I wanted to browse a little bit and check out a couple rifles and a handgun, he made it seem as if I was holding up the line at the Emergency room or something. In the end I walked out with some ammo and a sour taste once again. To add some history to the story, I have many firearms from them and have been going to that specific shop since it was the Last Gun Shop ran by Jack, who was an absolute 10, stellar service, great knowledge and just an overall great guy. Now I dread going in there every time I need ammo, but living in CA I really have no choice. Us conservative types are few and far between in these parts, we should be sticking together. Sadly these guys just want to enforce stereotypes. I wish I could open up a rival store and put these guys out of business. read more

I stopped in to have a look see. Normally not a store I would frequent. However,I am new to Napa, so I'm exploring! This is a hunter & fishing store. They sell knives & gun stuff, too. But I don't know what kind of bullets or guns. I'm illiterate when it comes to any of their merchandise. I wanted to check if there might be one item to catch my interest or need. The only thing was Pepper Spray! But I didn't buy it. The store definitely has a loyal fan base. When I went in, there were 3 big dogs in the store and lots of men congregating in the back, talking about their recent adventures and what's new. This is the best local fishing store I've been to. The young men were more than helpful. They helped me pick out a fly reel, put backing on it, pick out leaders, and the works. I was looking to take out my grandmother's fly rod that was given to me prior to her passing away. I had some supplies but not everything I needed. I was told that on Saturday's they usually have someone around that will help coach you on fly casting. He was not in when I was there but the person helping me brought me out to the lot to help me with my false casts and getting the feel for the rod. I was recommended some nymphs for Putah creek and told that lot #5 there was where he had the most success recently. Anyone looking to get into fly fishing would be welcomed in with open arms here at Sweeney's. read more

We drove from Fairfield to look at their archery selection and to get some arrows cut. Asked one of the associates to see if we could get them cut, he came back a few minutes later with an excuse on why they couldn't cut them. It takes 2 minutes to cut a dozen arrows. They helped set up my compound bow for hunting by tuning it, installing a peep sight and string silencers. They also took my draw length and set my pull weight for $20. They let me try 2 mechanical releases and set me up with arrows and a shooting block for a good price too...I always stop in when I'm in the area. read more

Sweeney's has been around forever. A last of a dying breed of local owned/operated businesses. I went there as a kid, and I still go there today, and I'm older than 50. They continue to treat all of their customers like it was still the 1960's, with curteous help, knowledgable advice, and super friendly service. I travel from Glen Ellen these days, but when in Napa Sweeney's is a favorite stop. I am not a hunter or a fishing person. I just went into Sweeney's to get some pepper spray. They were very helpful and nice when I purchased it. After testing the spray I found the trigger it was difficult to push down with my thumb. I went back in with the spray and told them about it. They tested it out and thought that was probably the way it was made but went ahead and gave me another can for free. We tested that one too and he was right, they are just made that way. (Not their fault-- they didn't make the pepper spray). Anyway, I'll just have to use two hands. They let me have the new spray and even suggested I keep the other one too. Being a woman, I was concerned about how I would be treated by this type of business but they were always very nice, helpful and never "talked down to me". --You know what I mean. All the staff I encountered there have been great. BTW, they are packed FULL of fishing equipment. I have been in many times and was helped by Chad and the rest of the Archery Pro staff with setting up and ordering a Hoyt bow and accessories and found them all very knowledgeable and helpful in knowing what I was looking for in a bow and setting it up and filling the order for me. The frustration I had was with Hoyt as far as how long it takes to get product from them and that did make me nervous and tested my patience with such a large priced purchase and turkey season right around the corner.
