just to prove I am not some brand new shooter

Been going to USI Concord for over 30 years and I've never run into the kind of attitude I got recently from one of their guys, Mark. Last time I was in I couldn't find my safety card. Told him so, and instead of just helping me out he got an attitude about it - "well you're supposed to have it." I asked if he could just pull it up on the computer and he said "that's not the point." I said ok but you guys obviously have a backup of it somewhere right? Same answer again, "it's not the point, you're supposed to have it." He did end up giving me a new card eventually, so it clearly wasn't actually a big deal, he just wanted to make me feel bad about it first for some reason. Not the first issue I've had with him either. He's got this habit of jumping in to "help" the women in a group - wife, girlfriend, daughter, whoever - even when the guy she's with is a certified instructor or a vet who knows exactly what he's doing. Happened to people I know more than once. Kind of insulting honestly. What industry are you allowed to argue with, talk down to, and disrespect your paying customers and still keep your job? Apparently this one. Look, I get that rules are rules, but there's a way to enforce them without being a jerk about it. After 30 years as a customer, this is it for me - I won't be doing the public shoots there anymore. Hard to recommend the place when this is the kind of experience you can run into. Middle pic to show I am not just some brand new shooter thinking I know everything.

    Not bad

Ok I been shooting in Livermore range for ten years. I live in Walnut Creek but the range in Livermore is very comfortable and nice place to shoot plus all my friends are there . So I tried US today I liked it a lot it's less then 10 minutes from the house that's big plus . Livermore is 30 plus miles from my home too far . It's not that I can't afford the gas it's the idea it's so much closer . So it's always weird to start shooting at a new place the range officer I met was very nice walk my thru everything easy to talk too . I really enjoyed my morning thanks to everyone at United Sportsman thanks for your patience you just got a new customer. I even retired my Livermore hat and is now sporting a new dark blue United Sportsman hat . See you guys next month . I did shoot up here years ago under an old ownership. I did forget to mention you can sit in the pistol area that's a plus especially old guys like us I retired to the bench with a 22 lr it was great

LOL bad factory ammo at the trap range. Bad luck .

This is further than I'd like to drive but because it's such a nice place for me to visit I'd drive an hour to come here. The people here are nice and professional. The place has pistol range, rifle range and trap/skeet fields. It also has private bays for lessons. I love coming here for traps because it usually not crowded on the time I come and things work. I don't have to fumble on equipments. They also sell reloading and ammo that are usually cheaper than local stores. The pistol range can be crowded but it's well run and I feel safe there. Overall my favorite outdoors range in the Bay Area. In fact I liked it so much I paid for the VIP membership which basically covers the $8 bridge fee coming from the Peninsula.

Loved " What an incredible training experience! From the moment I first reached out, Dan answered right away and even created a detailed training plan I could share with my department -- his professionalism really stood out. Louie, Barry, and Theo made me feel so welcome throughout the course. Louie showed true patience and care, saying something that stuck with me: "I measure my success by the success of each student." Barry was my quiet "whisper" when it came to taking each shot -- his calm guidance and expertise made a huge difference. And Theo, thank you for lending me the equipment I needed to train safely and confidently. This wasn't just a class -- it was a confidence-building, skill-sharpening experience. I'm truly grateful for the Paladin Tactical US (Concord) team. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for top-quality training! Sincerly , Claudette H.

I have been going to lots of ranges around the Bay Area lately and I have to say USI is my favorite. As always, if this is your first time at a public range, watch a range safety video on YT before you go so you know the basics. Take the online test and get your wavier signed so you don't have to waste time doing that at the range(for first timers only) They have ammo for sale at the office in case you don't have enough. After you paid your fees, you walk though the double doors and you will be at the range area. Left is pistol and right is for rifles. Targets (included in range fees) are located on the table right in front of you as you exit the door. Make sure you take the appropriate target board. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The Asian guy with the cowboy hat was very nice and told me some useful info when I told him it was my first time here at the range. RSOs on both sides were helpful. Two older gentleman helped me clear out a jam I never encounter before and they were nice enough to give me couple suggestions. Over at the rifle range, you can either shoot your rifle seated (by default) or standing up. If you want to shoot standing up, make sure you let the RSO know when you check in (when switching over from pistol range) or they will assign you a seated position by default. OR if you shoot at rifle area first, you let the front desk staff know you want to shoot standing up. Free sand bags are provided for you as rifle stand if you need it or you can go into the office and rent a rifle stand for free, just need to leave your DL there. Overall a great time here and this is will be my go to range from now on and will bring my friends too!

Ask the Community - United Sportsmen

    Does this place sale ammo?

    Yes, not all types.

I don't own a gun yet -can I use a rifle from the club?

No, they don't offer gun rentals.

Can i use s45 in this range to practice?

The answer given earlier is not correct. USI uses a ft/lbs calculation and seeing that the SS45 is basically a big bore airgun with maybe high 9mm energy. You are more than welcome to utilize the Public Rifle Range. Currently the Multi-Purpose range…

If my friend doesn't have an ID will a passport suffice?

I would think that a valid US Passport would be sufficient. But best to call - they are very responsive!

For standing rifle shooting, can you shoot from high / low ready with a shot timer or is it quite strict on *how* you can do your shooting?

That kind of shooting is generally reserved for the MPR which currently is under construction and closed to centerfire rifles and pistols. We are working swiftly to open the MPR back up for normal operations.…

    Is .223 FMJ is allowed?

Yes it is... Green tip however is not.

For the rifle range is it strictly 100 yards or do they have closer targets?

For the Rifle side there are 25-50-75-100 yard targets stands.

What calibers of ammo are for sale at the clubhouse? Specifically curious about 9mm.

Ammunition at the club house is normally limited to Shot Shell... The Rifle / Pistol Range Office is where you can purchase reman and factory ammo in varying qtys and cost depending on your liking.…

Are Shotguns allowed at the range? If yes what type of shells are allowed? Birdshots, Buckshots or Slugs...?

Trap/Skeet ranges are birdshot only. Pistol range is slug only. No shotguns on Rifle range.

What is the process and fee for non-members to show up and shoot, and why is that not on the website?

It will cost you 20.00 to shoot. Go to there web site an take there safety test. When you arrive they will give you a safety card an then your set.

    Are lead bullets allowed?

    Lead only (no steel cores).

What is the latest time they will accept people for pistol shooting?

Last call on Rifle/Pistol is 4PM in the summer and 3PM in the winter.

Is there gun rentals on site?

We do not offer rentals, generally only indoor ranges offer them.

What caliber rifle is allowed? I've read only .22 lr rifle was... but I'm not sure... thanks in advance :)

Center fire rifles are allowed on the newly reopened Public Rifle Range (up to 338 Lapua).

Are 9mm full metal jacket ammo allowed for pistols in the pistol range?

Yes. I think the only restriction is for steel core bullets due to possible sparking and fire hazard. Lead core FMJ is fine.

Do I need to bring my targets or I can buy them at the range?

You are provided a standard paper target. They also sell shoot and see type targets.

    Whats the range fee?

Rifle/Pistol is $9 for members of the 5 clubs and $20 for the public.

Hi, are other pistol calibers, such as 9mm/.45, open for the public and not just members? How about .223 or 5.56 for shooting ARs or other centerfire rifles? Are .22LR the only kind allowed?

Kulraj - The range is still limited to members only TILL Friday May 15th. Both Rifle and Pistol…

That last question was a valid one, but I'll be more specific. When will the pistol range remodeling be completed for those of us who enjoy shooting .357, .38, .38 Special, 9mm, and 45 caliber handguns? And yes, I know "after" the SIP ends.

Hi Gary, Ill be honest Im not sure what you are asking. You have answered your own question. The…

The most frustrating thing about this club is the lack of solid, competent information about WHEN the pistol range will reopen... it's been closed for years with vague promises of "updates" to the facility. WHEN will it finally reopen?

Its open to members now... stop complaining... go shoot.

Ronnie was super friendly when I reached out to him. Apparently, he communicates via text only which is totally fine. He was able to communicate everything needed to properly purchase. I also appreciated that he texted a picture of the back of the building because the location is tucked inside of a block and hard to navigate if you've never been there before. Michelle helped me out with paperwork and she was super friendly. They both treated me very well and were very helpful when it came to helping me with my transaction. While their transfer fee is the most I've ever paid, it's important for me to support local shops like this, and because they're appointment only, it feels good to be the only person in the store. Overall, I plan to have all of my future online purchases go through this shop. This is an A+ establishment. Some tips for people considering coming here: - Ronnie is text only, but is pretty quick to respond. - The building that they're in isn't exactly visible from the street. - Ronnie doesn't sell to people who hunt animals and is pretty transparent about that. - They're cash only.

As a first-time buyer, I had a lot of questions, and Ronnie took the time to walk me through safety, components, what to look for, current regulations, and responsible ownership. Being former law enforcement, he really emphasizes education and making sure people understand both the responsibility and the laws that come with firearm ownership. They've moved away from the traditional storefront model and are more selective with who they work with, which made the experience feel much more personal and trustworthy. They're also great for transfers and ammo. They didn't just sell me a firearm and send me on my way...they connected me with trusted people for training, cleaning, and maintenance as well.
