This was a fun place. I visited while on a secret mission with a co-worker. This has to be the the largest gun range I've ever been to. None of the Southern California ones that I've visited over the years comes close to this one. They have shooting ranges for everything. If shooting is not your thing, they even have archery and "impalement arts" (tomahawk and knife throwing). It was the first time I picked up a gun in almost decades. My coworker (who might volunteer here) was great at teaching me how to handle a modern pistol. The range was well kept and clean. They have rules to follow including usage of PPE's. Been going to USI Concord for over 30 years and I've never run into the kind of attitude I got recently from one of their guys, Mark. Last time I was in I couldn't find my safety card. Told him so, and instead of just helping me out he got an attitude about it - "well you're supposed to have it." I asked if he could just pull it up on the computer and he said "that's not the point." I said ok but you guys obviously have a backup of it somewhere right? Same answer again, "it's not the point, you're supposed to have it." He did end up giving me a new card eventually, so it clearly wasn't actually a big deal, he just wanted to make me feel bad about it first for some reason. Not the first issue I've had with him either. He's got this habit of jumping in to "help" the women in a group - wife, girlfriend, daughter, whoever - even when the guy she's with is a certified instructor or a vet who knows exactly what he's doing. Happened to people I know more than once. Kind of insulting honestly. What industry are you allowed to argue with, talk down to, and disrespect your paying customers and still keep your job? Apparently this one. Look, I get that rules are rules, but there's a way to enforce them without being a jerk about it. After 30 years as a customer, this is it for me - I won't be doing the public shoots there anymore. Hard to recommend the place when this is the kind of experience you can run into. Ok I been shooting in Livermore range for ten years. I live in Walnut Creek but the range in Livermore is very comfortable and nice place to shoot plus all my friends are there . So I tried US today I liked it a lot it's less then 10 minutes from the house that's big plus . Livermore is 30 plus miles from my home too far . It's not that I can't afford the gas it's the idea it's so much closer . So it's always weird to start shooting at a new place the range officer I met was very nice walk my thru everything easy to talk too . I really enjoyed my morning thanks to everyone at United Sportsman thanks for your patience you just got a new customer. Went yesterday for the first time. Would be 4 stars because there didn't seem to be much in the way of a shop inside the main office (although I did not ask or shop, I had all my own gear). Gladly increased to 5 stars though because of the safety protocols they have in place. They take safety 100% seriously and it's great to see and experience. The countdown timers to cease fire make it easy to gauge shooting time. The guys staffing the lanes mean business - all safety protocols must be adhered to including shooting across lanes. If you don't they will kick you out (some are innocent mistakes to newbies but obviously all the other protocols like loading and unloading and putting the yellow thing in your unloaded piece when not in use seem like common sense to me). All in all this is a great facility to learn the importance of safety when dealing with firearms while having fun. read more

This is further than I'd like to drive but because it's such a nice place for me to visit I'd drive an hour to come here. The people here are nice and professional. The place has pistol range, rifle range and trap/skeet fields. It also has private bays for lessons. I love coming here for traps because it usually not crowded on the time I come and things work. I don't have to fumble on equipments. They also sell reloading and ammo that are usually cheaper than local stores. The pistol range can be crowded but it's well run and I feel safe there. Overall my favorite outdoors range in the Bay Area. In fact I liked it so much I paid for the VIP membership which basically covers the $8 bridge fee coming from the Peninsula. read more

My first visit to this range was a great experience. We did our research online beforehand, watched the required safety videos, and completed the waivers, which made the check-in process smooth and efficient. We arrived on a Sunday around 2:00 p.m., and parking was easy. There was a short line at check-in, but with two staff members working the counter, the wait only took a few minutes. They issued a range card to streamline future visits. The rules are clearly explained, and they expect everyone to follow them. The staff were professional, friendly, and focused on safety while also offering helpful suggestions and assistance. I brought my 1970 Winchester Model 94 Saddle Rifle .30-30, along with my grandfather's 1950 Marlin Model 336 .30-30, which I had just gotten back from the gunsmith after having a new firing pin installed. The range provides large cardboard targets designed for their rifle target system. During cease-fire, shooters walk downrange and place their targets between plastic poles at distances of 25, 50, 75, or 100 yards. I chose the 50-yard range. You can also bring your own targets to tape onto the provided backers, so bringing tape and extra targets if you like. A spotting scope or binoculars is also helpful. My Winchester was shooting dead on. I struggled a bit with the Marlin, but it was my first time shooting it and the rear sight definitely needs some adjustment. We had a great time. I appreciated the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Unlike some other ranges I've visited, I didn't feel any tension during check-in or while on the line. Just follow the rules. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I'll definitely be back soon to shoot handguns. read more

I've been to three different ranges in the East Bay, and this USI facility is by far the best one. It's super clean, very well organized, and has a ton of stations. The price is reasonable, and it includes targets, whereas most other ranges charge you for them! The range masters are super friendly and helpful, while also strict about the rules. My first time there, they didn't yell at us or bark orders. They even gave my son some tips on his stance. I didn't know they allowed shotguns (slugs only) on the range until someone mentioned it in passing, and since it's close to my house, we will absolutely be making this our regular spot for target practice. read more

I had the opportunity to spend two days at this facility. I spent several time shooting with a club member , Jonathan Marquez , who also is local instructor. The following day was spent shooting in a tournament. The members that I met were very out going and friendly. This facility is very will organized and taken care of. I would recommend that traveling shooters of all types stop and check this location out. I shoot shotgun, but rifle and pistol shooting is available. You won't be disappointed what ever you shoot. This location is shared by several different type of shooting clubs . I shot shotgun with Diablo Rod & Gun Club Members .Great place to go with great people to share your time with . I have been going to lots of ranges around the Bay Area lately and I have to say USI is my favorite. As always, if this is your first time at a public range, watch a range safety video on YT before you go so you know the basics. Take the online test and get your wavier signed so you don't have to waste time doing that at the range(for first timers only) They have ammo for sale at the office in case you don't have enough. After you paid your fees, you walk though the double doors and you will be at the range area. Left is pistol and right is for rifles. Targets (included in range fees) are located on the table right in front of you as you exit the door. Make sure you take the appropriate target board. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The Asian guy with the cowboy hat was very nice and told me some useful info when I told him it was my first time here at the range. RSOs on both sides were helpful. Two older gentleman helped me clear out a jam I never encounter before and they were nice enough to give me couple suggestions. Over at the rifle range, you can either shoot your rifle seated (by default) or standing up. If you want to shoot standing up, make sure you let the RSO know when you check in (when switching over from pistol range) or they will assign you a seated position by default. OR if you shoot at rifle area first, you let the front desk staff know you want to shoot standing up. Free sand bags are provided for you as rifle stand if you need it or you can go into the office and rent a rifle stand for free, just need to leave your DL there. While tending to my target, I was greeted by one of the range masters. Instead of politely advising me to use the proper path, I got chewed out yelled at. I have been to this place several times and always have a mixed bag of experiences. The one consistent thing is that the old guy in the front office usually on the right side desk, is a complete prick. I usually try and avoid interacting with him, but unfortunately, I had to this time. My wife always comes with me and observes. I informed him of this, and his jerkish comment was "what, is she gonna wait on the car?". There is absolutely no reason to be a jerk, but IMO he really never fails at it. Not my first negative interaction with him, and probably won't be my last. I'm seriously considering joining Richmond although this facility is much closer. US is as much fun as I have found anywhere since Castro Valley shut down, even more so actually. Growing up in the Sierra's we gave flight to everything sharp and pointy we got our hands on or made :) and with hatchet's, arrows & knives also welcome I haven't felt closer to home in this the asphalt concrete jungle since I left. Nice clubhouse and always friendly staff, even let me on the long range with my hand cannon (once I proved I could hit the barn door hahaha) and some great jaw wagging to boot. I am a huge fan of this range. If you want to use this range, you do have to go online prior to getting there and take a safety test. There is a computer and private room to take it if you haven't done so - but best to get it done beforehand. They'll be sent the results and this makes checking in and paying range fees quicker. The Range Safety Officers are freakin' amazing. I have watched a lot of Youtube videos and online training sessions - but nothing compares to having someone who can watch you, evaluate your technique and suggest small changes that can affect your accuracy. Last week, I literally got about 10 mins of very constructive...very hands on guidance...and the improvement in accuracy was marked and measurable. The range is organized and clean. Bathrooms onsite are clean. Everyone sweeps up their own brass. They have these screens to protect you from casings flying into your space if there are folks next to you - and it can get a little crowded. Good idea to bring stickers for your targets. It can get very bright out there and it just helps to see where your shots are going so you can make adjustments. Eyes and ear safety. 15mins on...then a break. Respect that yellow line :) read more

I've been to plenty shooting ranges and this place was one of the most enjoyable! There's a pistol range and rifle range. Pistol goes out to 25 yards and rifle goes out to 100 in increments of 25. Pricing is fairly normal for lanes ($25 flat rate, not hourly) and they do sell ammo, price of those aren't super taxed. Each person gets 1 free pistol and rifle target depending which side/range you're on. No rentals. Bring your own firearm. If you buy ammo, they just need to run a background check (per CA law) which takes about 10 minutes if you decide to take the ammo off the property. If you plan on shooting all the ammo (bought there) at the range, there is on need for a background check, you just need to sign a waiver. Their service is the best part in my opinion. All the staff and RSO were very nice and genuine, unlike certain other ranges where the staff, owner, or RSOs are power tripping D Bags (yes, I get why, safety first, but delivery is everything. Like Jesus, work in your people/social skills). One guy accidentally stepped over the yellow line during ceasefire but the RSO handled it really well, stern but effective with a little bit of fatherly/grandfatherly humor instead of going berserker on the guy. Nobody is perfect and we all make little mistakes from time to time. The message got through to the guy without the unnecessary power trip & attitude.
